  1. Sorry dude but its time to grow up and learn how the real world works. When you're using someone else's platform, such as a game or social media service, they have every right to control the content on that service. You agreed to that when you agreed to the ToS and used the service. If you don't like such agreements you're free to not use those services. No one is forcing you to play a specific game or use a certain social media platform. You could instead create your own game or media platform where racist are welcome, which seems to be important to you for some reason. That's the right you have.
  2. Yeah I'd actually change my original list to include the weight exploit. Hadn't been hit by it yet but someone sank our Schooner last night in PvE while we were offline. Its complete BS and should have been a priority, immediate fix. There is no excuse for such a nasty exploit to linger for days when a short term fix is so easy (weight doesn't sink ships, only stops them from moving) and it has pretty much brought our playing to a halt. We have a Brig and what was suppose to be a backup Schooner almost ready to go but I won't launch them until this is fixed, which means we're pretty much not playing.
  3. I've posted this in other threads but its a very easy solution: 1. Make it so ships don't sink when overweight or are carrying too many crew members, they just can't move. 2. Give an option to expel non company members from ships in PvE (in PVP that's obviously doesn't make sense). Problem solved. They also need to fix the exploit, which has existed since Ark, that lets you pick up more weight than you can normally carry if you pick it up off the ground. That'd make it harder to sink peoples ships by being overweight.
  4. In all likelihood you destroyed the sail by accident when opening it or something. Its quite possible if you're not careful. I'm also not sure what you're complaining about with the wind.... sometimes its not going to be in your favor and your trip will take longer. That's the game. See, this is going to far in the other direction. For one thing, Atlas being an MMO has nothing to do with not being able to play solo in the game. Most MMOs allow you to get by as a solo player or have plenty of systems in place to enable player trading if they don't. I played a ton of Star Wars Galaxies, which was an MMO built around the concept of player interconnectivity and was originally setup so you HAD to interact with other players. They had a ton of systems in place for that though, including a robust player to player trade system, a global trade network and NPC shop keepers. What they didn't do however was force you to join some d-bags guild in order to survive the game or have any chance at participating in significant chunks of game content. Also, while there will be dangers and the game will be hard at times it doesn't have to be pure hardcore mode. All this whining about the wind change is head scratching.... its still really slow to sail directly into the wind and there was no "skill" required to properly sail into the wind in the first place. That change is about convenience, not difficulty. Seriously, get over it.
  5. I find it hard to nail down the three biggest issues I have with Atlas. There are a lot of little things that are driving me nuts right now but they're all pretty much in the slight/moderate annoyance category. Beyond that my top three would probably be: 1. A lack of things to do in PvE. I get that the game is based around PvP but if you're going to have PvE servers, you need PvE content (such content can also make the PvP server experience better). I'm already starting to hit the point where its getting hard to come up with things to do... you can only do the same exact treasure map fight, battle the same SotD or gather resources for so long before it gets boring. More NPC ships to battle with, including ships that can be boarded, would be a good start as would an expanded treasure map system with different encounters when trying to dig up treasures. So sort of quests as well as an NPC faction system could also be cool. 2. The claim system, especially in PvE. I've basically setup shop in lawless and have no plans to leave due to the way claims work. I don't have a desire to steal someone's claim in PvE and don't want to worry about defending a claim in PvE. If I wanted that, I'd play more PvP. The very fact that there is a leaderboard for captured territory in PvE is mind blowing in my opinion. Claims in PvE should be limited to one per person and a handful per company and should expire if people don't long in like the decay in Lawless/Ark. Period. It would help if there were more islands added to increase the potential claimable land. I know, its about ships and sailing and blah blah blah… but they could add a hundred more islands and you'd barely notice it. It'd also be nice if such islands weren't just copy paste jobs like most of the islands currently in the game. 3. Lack of offline raid protection. The reasons I'm avoiding official PvP are many but this is the primary one. As I've said before on these forums, I don't mind losing battles in PvP. That's kind of the point. What I will not deal with is having all my shit destroyed, my ships sunk and my claims taken while I'm asleep. That's just nonsense and it discourages actual PvP engagements since its so much easier to raid people that are offline than fight them while they're online. It also punishes small companies that don't have a 24 hour presence. This is also an issue in PvE although to a lesser extent. While it hasn't happened to me, I've watched snakes tear through my neighbors house and kill them while they were offline. Who in their right mind thinks that's an acceptable experience? Same with having something happen to your ship at night while you're offline. This is a no brainer feature that should have been included from day one.
  6. Mixed PvEvP server where some regions are PvE while others are specific PvP war zones would be pretty awesome. I'm sure we'll see this in private servers a lot but it'd be nice to have something like this on official.
  7. NPC factions that players could join would indeed solve a lot of problems. In PVE it'd give us something to fight against (the other factions) and in PVP it'd give small companies a way to band together to fight the larger ones. Honestly, this game feels like it was built for factions.... why there aren't any is beyond me.
  8. Since when did anyone declare this was a sailing simulator? Its a fantasy game... not a hardcore sim. How exactly is the new system keeping you stuck to the shipyard? The fact that you can move in any direction no matter where the wind is blowing should make it significantly easier to get unstuck.... not harder.
  9. That's certainly true to some degree. However, not every single player complaint is valid. As a survival game, Atlas (much like Ark) is going to have some hard aspects to it and its going to bite you in the ass sometimes. The problem I see here is this idea that since you've spent all this time building a ship, there should be no risk of ever losing it. That's NEVER going to be the case... just like there was always a risk of losing tames in Ark. There is never going to be an easy mode unless you play on an unofficial server and anything you build can be lost in a flash if you're not careful. That's not to say there aren't bugs and balance issues right now, because there are plenty. It just seems like some people won't be happy unless there is zero risk to their ship. For example, the complaints about SotD attacking rafts. I've sailed plenty of rafts near SotD and their aggro range is so small you have to do something pretty stupid or get really unlucky for them to attack you. Even when I've spawned in a zone near one we've been able to outrun it... and that was before the sailing changes that made things easier. And if it had sunk us? Its a raft.... it takes five minutes to get the resources to build a new one. There are going to be dangers, accept it. Now with whales, they def need a nerf and shouldn't be able to rink anything but maybe a raft in one hit.... but they're still going to be a significant danger, as they should be.
  10. With dropped items not counting as weight someone could, if dedicated enough, keep dropping and picking up large stacks of items to keep the weight of their ship down. It'd be a pain in the ass but it would be possible to transport more weight than allowed. And you have to count people not in your company. Otherwise companies would just have several members that are not "officially" in the company to keep the weight down and carry larger than allowed crew. At least in PVE you can't pick up sleeping players not in your company. ----------- This is one of those issues where a lot of the proposed solutions are worse than the original problem. You're either going to end up with something that's easy to grief people with or something easy to exploit to circumvent ship crew/weight rules. What I would propose is that ships don't sink from too much weight or crew as others have said. However to address the concern Poot Pootington had about people hoping on your ship and logging off, they could simply add a menu option to kick sleeping players off your ship. Problem solved. You'd still have an issue if a group of trolls piled on your ship and refused to leave but at least they wouldn't sink the damn thing.
  11. I seriously doubt there is any plan to ever make Lawless claimable. Not only would that piss off a LOT of people who have already setup bases there, it doesn't make much sense. New players need an area to setup and get established before they head out into the world to try and compete for claims. Lawless provides that pretty well the way it is. If it were claimable, it'd be nearly impossible for new players to get a start.
  12. Did you try logging out and back in? I was stuck in my boat and this is how I fixed it. If that doesn't work, have one of your company kill you. I'd imagine you're sticking out of the boat somewhere....
  13. I seriously doubt that to be honest. A game developer would understand two simple concepts here: 1. You're talking about private servers. While the devs can't ignore private servers, they can't be their primary focus. Getting fixes out as fast as possible to players on official servers should (and is) their top priority. 2. The game is in early access and at least two years from full release. A true game dev would understand that and appreciate that a set patch schedule right now would be very hard to maintain. There are going to be bugs and issues that need to be addressed immediately. Most of the patches we've seen since launch for example have been critical bug and stability fixes that SHOULD be released as soon as they're ready. You don't hold back such fixes a week just so private servers don't have to update. That's nonsense. My advise? If you don't want a lot of patches don't play an early access title that just came out.
  14. Unfortunately they do but its not THAT much more expensive than buying a new crew every day (if idle they cost about 1g per hour and a half)... and you save the trip. Just throw some gold in a ship resource box to keep them paid and you'll be set.
  15. As far as I know those are the only ways. What exactly are you finding troubling about the "overnight thing"?
  16. Awesome. I'm probably not going to play tonight but I'll definitely get it tomorrow.
  17. The big island really does blow. It has very few usable resources, which is surprising given its size. Wait, we have a discord?
  18. lol I recognize the company name. I live on the north side of the big island (forget what its called) in that zone and seen you trading gems before in the chat.
  19. Heh you live in K12 on NA PVE don't you... ?
  20. First of all, can we lose the idea that there is some sort of "skill" involved with sailing in this game? There isn't some super secret skill you possess that makes you a badass pirate or anything because you can sail into the wind. It takes all of 5 minutes to figure out... Not to mention, you'll still move 70% slower going strait into the wind... which is significant given the distance between islands. So no, people aren't going to just point strait into the wind no matter what since it'll still take much longer to reach your destination. There are legit things to complain about with the game but your reaction to this seems overly dramatic.
  21. Completely agree. Sailing around is a lot of fun at first but after a while its just a boring means to an end. Allowing us to get to our destinations faster isn't a bad thing at all. Not to mention that ships beyond a raft aren't impacted by sailing into the wind all that much if you know how to sail. The people really punished by sailing into the winds are new players on a raft.... so giving them a little break is also a good move.
  22. Well Atlas is a fantasy game with things like magic and dragons (and skeletons and ghost ships). If you want a pure pirate simulator, this is never going to be it. As for the SotD they're a necessary evil right now. Until there are other NPC ships out there, the oceans need some sort of dangers for us to fight/avoid... otherwise sailing is pretty boring, at least on PVE. Once/if other NPC ships are introduced, which I certainly hope the devs plan to do, the SotD can be relegated to a rarer and more limited role.
  23. Have you tried removing the railings and placing the ramp/stairs first? Other than that I can't think of any reason it wouldn't snap based on that picture. You can also try hitting Q, which cycles the available snap points.
  24. Yeah its possible something funky is blocking the placement. Stairs and ramps definitely snap to floors. As the OP was talking about, there is some serious strangeness with what causes placement block and what doesn't. Not really surprise, the exact same was also true in Ark.
  25. Hit T when you have the roof placement active and change it to a ramp. I just check, the ramp will snap to floors but the roof itself doesn't.
