  1. I just thought about something else. This game has peak concurrency right now of more than 50k. They apparently have a single GM. One. Uno. And the only developer who speaks directly to the playerbase seems to think that's okay enough to mention publicly without embarrassment. GrapeCard™ is not some fledgling indie studio getting by on a shoestring. They've had over 3 years of Ark being in Steam's Top 20 the whole time building up a nice pile of cash. Being so cheap you only have a single GM for over 50k players at once is something you should be embarrassed about imo.
  2. Just to tack on to what I said about a PR person...I'd bet dollars to donuts you could have paid a pretty good PR professionals salary for a year with all the revenue you could have saved in the form of having fewer refunds if you'd just communicated with your playerbase better during that launch. Remember how many people said their biggest frustration was the lack/quality of communication?
  3. Yeah the way he stated that came across a bit tone deaf. As I've said before, Wildshot™ is being penny wise and pound foolish by not having a PR professional on staff whose primary job it is to communicate with the playerbase. Jat as a developer should never be in the position of having to weigh things like how his tone will come across to a diverse playerbase, that's a PR person's job, because they're trained in it. I'm trained in sales and if you ask me to write code, we're @#$%ed.
  4. I got a great laugh out of this, good stuff, creative and makes it's point in a less toxic way. Buuuut (don't you hate that but?) Where I think the OP also has a valid point is right about where this analogy has a weakness. Cars are necessarily heavily regulated products, precisely because lives and safety depend upon them working properly. Online games not so much, because little depends on them other than how much fun you have in your leisure time. I try to balance my thinking between the fact that we as consumers should absolutely should hold the industry and developers accountable for the products that they offer us and the fact that even if those products are absolutely horrible, the consequences still don't merit a lot of the overblown vitriol common to game forums.
  5. I don't know. I complained about your font color and you changed it. That makes my eyeballs feel better. Kidding aside, thanks btw. Normally I don't like to ask for things that might crimp someone's individual style, but it was pretty hard to read your posts, and I think you've got something to contribute, so being able to comfortably is nice.
  6. This is what Jat had to say in his musings posted yesterday: PvE Exploits Not going to share what the exploits are, that would be unwise…although I suppose for those of you who weren’t aware, you might be with my post. Just wanted to say we are well aware of what’s happening and are exploring ways to deal with it. The obvious solutions won’t quite work due to some backend stuff, however, we are actively looking into a more delicate and effective solution. In the meantime, quit being jerks and griefing each other, otherwise, I might have to set Amberenix (our Game Master) on ya! I think that covers most of what I wanted to discuss about v10. I realise that doesn’t cover everything, but then we could literally be here for days on end and right now it’s 8 a.m and I’d like to get some rest soon haha. We had some hotfixes and patches go out today following the release, mostly just to resolve things that had been overlooked/missed in the update and some exploit fixing… as well as deal with the menacing rapid-firing Ship of the Damned that we introduced ourselves. whether that applies to the thread topic is open to interpretation, but if it doesn't, I'd be more than a little surprised.
  7. I don't have the answer except to say I'd bet this is one of those things they didn't really think through before dropping it in the game this early. Don't be surprised if the answer for now is it's not possible to buy the dragon because you can't carry the necessary gold and the vendor won't let you pay from storage. I don't know this, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it's the case.
  8. This is what I was thinking as a short term fix. Long term this is too likely to have pointless negative impact in terms of resource respawn penalties to be better than fixing mob clipping.
  9. Threads that start out with pejorative labels in the title aren't likely to go in a productive direction in my experience.
  10. have you tried applying a white before doing the custom image?
  11. Thanks for clarifying this. One of those things the developers will hopefully take as useful feedback and alter ingame information accordingly.
  12. I have been using your calculator. It’s quite handy and much clearer than the ingame interface. Thank you for making it.
  13. I think the negative reaction and coverage in the gaming media has been a good thing for the industry as a whole. Let other game developers see what happened with Atlas and think twice before simply thinking they can throw anything into EA without potential negative consequences.
  14. Yeah, you would think a game at the very beginning of a 2 year EA would go out of its way to make bug reporting simple, easy, and above all obvious, wouldn’t you? Even one not laced with bugs ought to imo. Not having ingame bug reporting is borderline inexcusable imo, since a significant portion of players don’t frequent forums or social media. If the whole purpose of EA is to turn players into game testers as some claim, then at the very least those players should not be forced to out of the way to provide feedback.
  15. That’s a bug and should be reported as such. Op isn’t complaining of a bug, he simply wants more respec opportunities, even just cause he made a mistake on the last one. You would be hard pressed to find a clearer case of “I made a careless mistake. Please make it so my mistake does not have consequences.” Especially in a survival aspect game, where learning through loss is an underlying design idea, this is not a position I have much sympathy for.
  16. Not to completely disagree, because it is bad, but not only was the same claim made about Ark, but is being made about a host of other issues in this game as well, and yet here the game stands. To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of the game’s death have been greatly exaggerated.
  17. If their track record from Ark is any indication, not much. Put Battleeye in and call it a day mostly. Perhaps Atlas will be better in this respect, but early indications do not show a mountain of evidence that they have otherwise learned from mistakes with Ark, so I would not hold my breathe.
  18. This. I have no idea yet what the “direction” of this game is and have yet to see any compelling evidence the devs do either. What Inhave seen is statements by them where they say they are eager to see how players interact with the game in unexpected and unanticipated ways. I suspect this means their approach is to wait and see what we do and go from there. I will say that based on what I’ve seen so far, I wish I had waited six months before jumping in. The fact that I could shelve at any moment but haven’t you may freely take to indicate that I’m unsatisfied with its state even accounting for EA status yet no less addicted. Thus it tends to be with Grapecard’s games.
  19. This is definately a skill that could use some clarification. I’d also like to know.
  20. Game developers, and not just this bunch but I’m referring to developers in general, have long been loathe to make changes to one side of a game with both pve and pvp without changing the other. I suspect doing so is problematic from their POV and can wind up making their jobs even messier than they already are. I don’t know this for a fact, I just know I’ve seen it suggested, called for, pleaded for, many times and never seen it done.
  21. If it’s anything like Ark, then expect basic tool recipes to be incredibly rare.
  22. I’m very familiar with quick wins. Are you familiar with the fact that many things people think are quick and easy fixes in coding or game design are in fact no such thing? Just because you think it’s lowhanging fruit doesn’t necessarily mean that it is. Over the years I ‘ve seen forum posters endlessly erroneously assume this thing or that was “an easy fix”. As far as judging you on a single post *eye rolls*, do they really not have sarcasm where you’re from? Either way, I’m still of the opinion it’s a low priority polish item. The chat is functional even if you don’t like it. Many other more pressing aspects of the game are not.
