  1. Note the number of people who focus on the word pirate and ignore the word fantasy.
  2. Welcome to the boards, nice to have you and great first post. We are very much in agreement about your core point and I like your suggestion about proficiency bonuses as an alternative.
  3. U R doin it rong. Riding wild is moar fun, just need the appropriate gear.
  4. The lack of pr0n in this thread is disappointing and misleading. 1/10
  5. I know that at my job the people I’m most inclined to listen to and try to help are the ones screaming profanity at me. Bet the Op’s job works the same way.
  6. Because there is a certain mindset that associates any popular game it dislikes with 12 year olds, therefore fortnite is played by the world’s 12 year olds
  7. Before you imply again that Jean Lafitte is a child who uses his parents credit card number you should know two things: 1. This is where his screen name comes from: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Lafitte. Not the sort of historical figure today’s poorly educated youth are even aware of, much less would chose as a namesake in a game. 2. I have personally spent over a month on discord with him daily when we belonged to the same company. If he’s a kid, he sounds an awful lot like a crusty middle aged fart who knows too many stories about his time in the Navy. This is so you don’t look foolish making baseless assumptions about others just because they don’t agree with you.
  8. Assumption that disagreeing parties are 12 year olds only serves to raise the question of your own maturity and whether you can handle the knowledge that other adults may have different views than your own.
  9. It is highly debatable whether established companies like Grapecard should be allowed to sell access to games in stages of development that for most of the industries existence paid beta testers were used to iron out the sorts of issues you're complaining about. What isn't debatable is that you were warned in advance of purchase that this game was 2 years of development away from being considered a finished product and issues such as this should be expected to arise during gameplay. That is what Early Access means. "Caveat Emptor" let the buyer beware means your foul mouthed short tempered table flipping rant is not a legitimate complaint as posed, but rather yet another in a long list of people complaining because they couldn't or wouldn't take responsibility to understand what they were purchasing prior to doing so and set expectations properly. Sympathy for such behavior is minimal.
  10. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Side note: @#% hits the Winterfell fan tonite. Betting pool on who/how many of your favorite characters don't make it out alive starts here. My money says Arya is the one who kills the Night King but like Golum falling into Mt Doom with the ring, takes one for the team. At this point if Tormund and Brienne don't get it on I'm pulling for the white walkers. Best. subplot. Evar. Side side note: Johnny Walker's limited edition White Walker scotch is worth picking up but don't drink it. Only the bottle is different, the actual scotch is just the regular JW red. Keep unopened bottle as keepsake/collectible.
  11. For the record I live for Konvar's use of exclamation points, fleeting glimpses of Olivia Munn from the bushes outside her window while I munch cheetos, and the dream that George RRRRR Martin will release Winds of Winter before one of us is dead. I have no objection to it whatsoever, but prior posting on the subject of Atlas's lore and game design concepts seem to indicate some number of people greater than 3 do, apparently.
  12. But that torpedo looks vaguely technology/steampunk/magicish and therefore clearly doesn't belong in the pure pirate game Wildshot told us all we were getting so obviously they lied. It is not my responsibility to completely read and understand information about the game I'm buying in order to have proper expectations. It is the responsibility of the devs to design the game according to my personal vision of what it should be, despite any evidence beforehand to the contrary.
  13. I never cared whether it was a pirate game or not, as pirates are not a thing I particularly get excited about, but Atlas was very clearly never JUST pirates. If you want to call it Ark with a twist then whatever floats your boat, but is it necessary to imply that those who don’t hold your subjective views in this regard should be mocked for that difference?
  14. But if he’s making new dishes and you tell people they’re the old dishes without having actually eaten them, why should people take you seriously on that?
  15. According to Isaac Asimov, the defining difference between sci fi and fantasy is sci fi’s grounding in science, meaning it is theoretically possible, while fantasy, which is not grounded in reality, is not. Going by that guideline I would consider fantasy the better descriptor of Atlas than sci fi. Also after 4K hours of Ark, I am of the opinion Atlas is not Ark. It shares some mechanics and more than a few assets, but there are significant differences and Atlas has core mechanics and design concepts that make it different enough from Ark that I regard it as it’s own game. This is largely a matter of subjective opinion so as always ymmv, but it would be nice if you owned and played said game before making those kinds of assertions. Doing so is a bit of the man who has never eaten at the restaurant holding forth on how good the chef is. It is hard to take his view of the matter seriously.
  16. I have to say that I am a big fan of Konvar’s posting style. I realize English probably isn’t his first language and that is part of it, but I find his posts both concise and entertaining, particularly his use of punctuation. Every time I look at this thread’s title Crab!, I giggle. Good stuff.
  17. Look guys, it’s really pretty simple. Atlas was never going to be just a pirate game in the same way that Ark was never just Dino’s. Yet there is a certain segment of the playerbase that likes to insist this is the case in the face of definitive evidence to the contrary. These people buried their head in the sand and insisted the devs “ruined” Ark by shoehorning Tek in after the fact, ruining their enjoyable Dino game and justifying their table flipping. In doing so they willfully ignored the giant floating obelisks in the sky and the decidedly not primitive implant in their wrist which is literally the very first thing any player sees when spawning in. These things were in the game from day one and proof Ark was never just Dino’s. In the same vein folks are now insisting Atlas is being ruined by magic, steampunk, torpedos, submarine etc etc. Anyone is entirely free to dislike these game elements. They are also free to quit playing because of that dislike. What they aren’t free to do is claim they were misled about what Atlas would be. The description on the steam store page makes it clear this isn’t just pirates. For anyone failing to read the store page thoroughly and comprehend correctly what it meant, the flying ship on these forums masthead, the hydra, cyclops and other fantasy creatures featured in the game’s pre launch trailer are hard to miss. tl:dr version: You don’t have to like it, just don’t piss and moan all over my leg and tell me it’s the devs making it rain when they said it would be sunshine. The facts are not in your favor.
  18. Prior to the wipe NE tundra had them. Not sure if any resource shuffling was done though.
  19. Yes. The boost doesn’t refer to treasure map yields, which aren’t resources, but to resources dug up when using the shovel otherwise, like potatoes.
  20. Weird and completely counterproductive to economy, since you can't make things to sell to other people that they can use without being able to craft the thing themselves. People like to talk about how cooking is useless, but afaik right now it is literally the only crafting tree that allows you to make things others can use that they can't craft for themselves, since everyone can eat. As far as I can tell this is completely nonsensical design unless the devs are wanting to test craft and use independently of craft and sell or craft for guild for some bizarre reason.
  21. Hard to say for sure but I would guess coding error.
  22. Some of the recipes give both vitamins upfront, some give 1 on the spot and the other slowly over several minutes. Weird and confusing, but I did a lot of cooking.
  23. “Work is composed of that which a body is obliged to do, play is composed of all else.” Mark Twain Balancing this reality against the need for time sinks is the razor’s edge that all MMO development teams try to walk. Some to a greater degree of success than others.
  24. Well like I said, I don't particularly have a dog in the fight assuming you are talking of pvp servers, just beware the law of unintended consequences. I think limiting all transfers to trading booths would be wildly unpopular, but that's just my two dubloons.
