strawman 114 Posted December 31, 2018 This is a really wonderful game. It's a fun and consistent simulation of the Age of Sail. I adore the flintlock pistols and the sail mechanics. But the ocean is full of bloodthirsty neon motorboats. That's not fun or consistent with the theme. 8
MindOfMadness 98 Posted December 31, 2018 There are dragons, fire elementals, and cyclops... Ghost ships aren't exactly out of the realm of fantasy.
Allaboutvalentina 2 Posted December 31, 2018 We're also PvE so there aint no challenge. Keep the ghost ships. 1

There's no need to nerf them, but they shouldn't be spawning like no tomorrow. There's no reason why sailing should be just playing pac man on the seas. I whut love som more npc on the ocean thoe, traders, pirates, control/police ships (what shut you call them?), and just random npc ships, who a passive or agressive, good or bad. Its and mmo, give mmo play please ty.
Stabby 96 Posted December 31, 2018 I think they need to nerf em down super low. Let everyone dig their heels into the game and then bring them slowly up.
Snocrash 5 Posted December 31, 2018 Agreed (with the OP). To have trading and vast numbers of Merchant ships sailing back and forth across the map is completely incompatible with the Ships of the Damned. Not every player wants to have a fully armed ship to take them on. Nor should a player require an armed escort to simply head off for a 3 or 4 hour voyage. I just don't understand why, as a business, Grapeshot don't 'get it'. 3
CeeKay7 4 Posted December 31, 2018 (edited) I just registered in the forum now because I'm upset about the ships of the damned, because they annoy me and my clan members extremely. Ships of the damned should target only armed boats. So let rafts and Sloops completely alone. But most of all, they should be removed from the game completely, as they destroy the atmosphere on the sea. There are enough enemies on land and in the water. Considering that there are weak players who can not and do not want to defend themselves. We would like to trade at sea, farm and see what we can achieve. We have no desire to play a game that is only for hardcore gamers to play. That's why, my suggestion. Just put the damned ships in Hardcore Server and leave the normal players alone. It's Hardcore Content! Edited December 31, 2018 by CeeKay7
Charles U Farley 46 Posted December 31, 2018 Nice they nerfed them a tiny not noticeable bit more. I just started to play Atlas again. An hour later i stopped again because it still sucks. They are just a pain with no sense at all. If there would be any chance to survive them and make many hours of work not completely useless it might be a cool feature. But this way. I think i play flappy bird again. That´s a fair game.
Herasea 59 Posted December 31, 2018 I say keep, PVE need something dangerous on the seas or it's just empty water and they only patrol a small portion of an area. maybe make some board-able ones, then even on a raft you can fight melee, also as someone suggested, only make the attack ships that have a means of retaliating. Raft is a big no no, makes no sense, most peopel on rafts haven't even made a claim yet, so you would be sending them back to square one. Sloop i'm not too fused about, the materials are easy to get, took me 20 mins solo, maybe reduce aggro range for sloop. Also FUSENTAST suggestion of more variety of ship types and maybe even have hostile fight each other

Secluse 2 Posted December 31, 2018 SotD should be removed and replaced with AI pirates. However, I suspect Grapeshot have no way to implement the AI respecting the wind/sailing condition, hence motorboat logic with ghost ships. It smells of incompetence, just like their unwillingness to resolve an issue that is singlehandedly preventing people from sailing in a sailing game.
Murreth 33 Posted January 1, 2019 I don't think they should be removed completely, but I do think they should be rare, maybe around the powerstone islands or other high resource value islands. I think that with travel taking so long in Atlas that the only danger to you on the high seas should be from other players (In PvP, in PvE it should just be if you fall off your boat and get eaten by a shark)
stormoffires 27 Posted January 1, 2019 PVE and you just asked to remove the E?
Charles U Farley 46 Posted January 1, 2019 No! Don´t remove the E from PVE, but just think about the P who wants to have fun. There are pretty enough things that makes the game hard. Just get rid of the ship of the damned. If you want a frustrating grinding game there is plenty of choice.
Littlelucifer 22 Posted January 1, 2019 These ships have to go or reduce huge, you travel and cant even discover new lands , new lands are occupied so you worry about that ontop of having 5-8 ghost ships attacking you, even your rafts get hit in 2 shots its wiped out you have no chance at all to do anything and if your home point is 5 zones away to get tped back, remove them or reduce damage and if you die you get teleported to the nearest freeport. Hard enough with all the lands being claimed to have to worry about trying to move to a island without dying. Make the game hard but dont make it unrealistic. Charles U Farley 46 Posted January 1, 2019 No one on the server i am playing on is leaving the island. They all are waiting for a "solution" for the SotD problem. I don´t waste hours of stupid grinding for a 30 seconds overkill of destruction. That´s useless killing time.

Vonwoah 0 Posted January 1, 2019 I personally love the SoD. Makes you be rethink being prepared before venturing out and adds risk.
Charles U Farley 46 Posted January 1, 2019 You can not be prepared for four SotD if they agro you. That´s not about risking something, it´s utterly stupid.
Twoapplesnbanana 6 Posted January 1, 2019 Should probably have a variety of them later on. Just like we have different classes of ships, have sloops with damned with bows/swords/guns at zones near freeports. Then a bit further have ones that are more like schooners with some cannons. Have the big ones and/or more alphas at power stone areas. Etc.
WInder 3 Posted January 1, 2019 I cant go exploring in my sloop at all. The SoD ships circle the island and TOTALLY remove the fun in exploring. Getting good wind..tacking to the destination are sometimes challenging enough. Add a storm and a few SoD and you are dead. I want to explore! Make the SoD ships around "Haunted Isle" in the center of each grid. OR make them only come out every "blood" moon once a week in game time. I can anchor up somewhere and hide. ALSO the SoD ships should NEVER target an anchored ship or a ship with no weapons (cannons). Unless they are dramatically reduced to one small area so those who want to fight can do so.
wookiewizard 4 Posted January 1, 2019 Make the ships rare and worthy of finding. Key concept there: worthy of finding. A challenge you have to go looking for, and a challenge you'll need to be prepared for. Treasure maps are a good example of how to do this well. It should be possible to stumble on them by accident, but only if the player is supremely unaware... for example, a rare weather effect that lets you know there are world-spawned SotD in the area, not unlike the Phoenix effect in Ark SE maps. BoomerMcFisticuffs 12 Posted January 1, 2019 I wouldn't want to see them removed entirely but seriously, they need to knock down the numbers a bit. I built a sloop and was taking it to another area and in 1 server I saw maybe 5 or 6 different Damned ships. They were all fairly close together as well. That's another issue. They seem to spawn in the same areas together like there isn't some kind of check to see if one is within range of the spawner. Come to think of it, that's a solution. If the spawns work like they do on ark. you could just set 4 spawners, 1 in each quadrant of a server, and have each one spawn a Damned ship with a check to see if there is another one in that area before spawning a new one. Hell, you could even add a condition to that check to allow a second one to spawn occasionally. I'd also make it so the ships stay in their quadrant as well. After you fix them, then you can add other dangers to the ocean to keep it deadly, but provide a nice variety of shit to kill people. These boats are just boring and a pain with the way they are. I'd rather lose boats to dragons, mermaids, sirens, or other players than the same thing constantly.
