  1. Do crazy stuff. I think it's a mistake to play an EA game seriously, spending a ton of time creating and building things and expecting them to persist. When you read on the forums that people are having a terrible time trying to breed animals, keep their tames, hang onto huge ships if they have griefing neighbors, why bother dedicating yourself to that before it's fixed? You'll only drive yourself crazy. Do it casually if you like, with an attitude of, "Oh, I guess I'll try this today". If it's still there in a week, that's great! If not, then do something else. Take a long sail (on a raft ), have a flotsam collecting contest with bonus points for who gets popped most by SOTDs. Sail through some zone where everybody is heads down slaving away at building something like it's their job, and sing a song in general chat. Collect 10 other silly people, put them all in armor painted pink and go visit other islands, telling them you're from Mary Kay and they've won a free makeover. If you've already built all the big ships and bases, tamed all the animals and got all the powerstones, what is there left to do when things are finally fixed and actually fun to accomplish? Remember, nobody expects a Spanish Inquisition...so show up uninvited and unexpected and give them one.
  2. Crow - Perhaps give the ability to teach the crow to go pick up maps without having you interact with the bottle yourself... Crows are very good at learning... Monkey - Perhaps give the ability to pick up small items... Perhaps make it possible to throw him through an open window into a base and then have him raid something off of the sleeping characters body... Parrot - Perhaps give it an ability to sing along with a song you play which then gives an extra boost to the timer or buff %... Seagull - Perhaps have it make a sound to indicate a storm is coming...

This will destroy all structures on the island. The cost to raze will be 12k gold on PvP servers and 25k gold on PvE servers. Settlement Owners will need to wait 48 hours to be able to raze an island after claiming it. The raze option will then be available for a 24-hour window only. This option is only functional during peacetime on PvP networks. v209.499 - Fast Decay has now been enabled for Settlement Owners - Fixed Reservoir and Waterpipes being from being falsely flagged by Fast Decay - Fixed some edge-case 3-5 structure builds from being falsely flagged by Fast Decay v209.497 - Fast Structure Decay has been enabled on our Official Network. Unofficials can enable this setting with the following command parameter: ?FastDecayUnsnappedCoreStructures=true - Reverted the change to Stationed Crew repairing anchored boats in order to control the amount of materials that are being consumed when a boat has been anchored. Idle crew will still repair boats. v209.491 - Magic Mythos bonus rates have been disabled - Fast Structure Decay has been disabled on our Official Network (needs more tweaks before we can set this live) v209.48 - Fixed a bug which would cause bears and horses from not basing on ships when they had storage carts attached to their harness (this would cause them to fall off ships when sailing) - Non Seamless Grid maps now save and load player/ship locations properly (notable on mod maps such as OceanTest) - Stationed crew can now repair anchored boats - Stationed Crew and Idle Crew now have the same gold cost requirements on land and on ships (Client will need to be updated to visualize this change, it's inc!) - Fast Structure Decay is now enabled on non-snapped core structures. This means that they will decay within 12 hours. v209.46 - Shipwrecks and their icons should now correctly vanish on the map after 5 days. We're still investigating legacy wrecks and however they may clear with this change after 5 days, as company data is loaded - Fixed "leave Company" button v209.43 - Fixed a bug which would sometimes cause the Wall Hook to not remember whether a light source was active after loading a saved game - Fixed a bug where players would temporarily enter combat state upon transition v209.4 - Fixed a bug which prevented players from gaining experience at level 149 (Max is level 150) - Companies are now enabled and force-created on Single Player so players have access to their Company Log. If you had a pre-existing savefile, you will be able to create a company, however it will only pull in boats/structures/creatures for the grid you're currently on. We recommend creating your company on your most active grid. You can use the cheat command 'cheat givetome' to pull boats/structures/creatures into your new company - Added an Admin Command to Single Player: cheat DoLeaveTribe - Forest Colouring can now be crafted and applied to items - Renamed one of the Purple colours to 'Dark Violet' as there were two of the same name - Demolishing buoys will no longer leave the sign floating behind 209.36 - Fixed a bug which caused silos to pay crew that weren't on the same team v209.35 - Reverted the Claim Flag height limit on Official Servers v209.34 - When replacing invalid claimflags, you can now place them within the green ring of your original flag - Claim flag height limit has been increased to 6500 units above sea level v209.31 - Magic Mythos is enabled on our Official Network: 4x Harvesting, 4x Taming, 4x XP, 2x Gold, 2x Egg Hatching, 2x Baby Maturing, 2x Crop Growth, and 50% less mating interval! - Company Island Point Limit has been increased by 100 - Tax Banks can only be placed by Admins or above in companies. - Fixed certain level creatures not receiving experience points in Single Player - Fixed underwater trenches not loading properly in Single Player - Fixed a bug which caused Pistols to have a bullet loaded after being repaired from a broken state - Discovery Zones on the map can now be hidden using the Toggle Island Info button on the ATLAS map - Discovery on the map now temporarily disappear beyond a certain zoon distance on the map (zooming back in will have them reappear) - Important: Claim Flags now have a maximum height limit when being placed. Claim Flags that were previously placed which exceed this limit will indicate as such on the HUD. Those which exceed the limit will be able to place a 2nd claim flag in a viable location. This will destroy your old flag and drop it's entire inventory into a loot cache (2 hour expiration time) on the ground. Next Wednesday, we'll be deploying an update which will force destroy any legacy flags which exceed the height limit. The limit is 4k units above sea level which is approximately 16/17 walls and only admins or above will be able to replace the flag. - New configurable ini setting for Claim Flag height limit [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] MaxSettlementFlagZ=4000 // you can set this number to 999999 to have no height restrictions. v209.1 - Added activate sail turning as a keybind (default: Left Shift) - Crew Members will now take food/gold from the following structures in this priority (it goes to the 2nd/3rd if the first does not have gold). Crew on Land: 1st priority: Resource Box and Food larder 2nd priority: Silo 3rd priority: Claim Flags Crew on Fully Anchored Boats: 1st priority: Silo 2nd priority: Claim Flags 3rd priority: Resource Box and Food larder - New placeable land structure 'Crew Resources Silo' which allows storage of food and gold to feed crew. Note this will also function on lawless servers, but to do so we've had to have them display island points on the map, however they still will not be able to be claimed. - New option on claim flag which allows turning off crew gold and food payment - Fixed an edge case which allowed you to fire cannons through walls - Fixed a bug where Crew was taking gold/food from a flag before they took it from a resource box/larder when dealing with Crew on Land. - Fixed a bug which prevented harvesting on creatures/using tools in Singleplayer - Fixed a bug which would sometimes cause the resource override to stop functioning, therefore provide players with a different resource than intended 208.21 - Fixed a bug which would cause players to be stuck when unmounting creatures - Cleared up the pinwheel text on Claim Flags, so they now indicate what it'll be changed to. v208.2 - Fixed invalid discovery points value on server v208.11 - Fixed a client side crash v208.1 - Single Player Beta Mode Note: Whilst not a formal system, Singleplayer users can play on any world json they want, by just replacing these files: \ShooterGame\ServerGrid.json \ShooterGame\ServerGrid\ (the map images) When doing so, please back up your SavedAtlasLocal folder, and then delete your save data using the in-game save delete button. - Claim Flags now have a toggleable setting in Settlements mode which allows Settlement owners to choose whether to pay and feed the NPC Crew for allies or everyone settled on the island. This will be displayed in the top-right hand corner HUD. A single + means ally crew will take gold/food from claim flags. ++ means everyone will take gold/food from the claim flag. A lack of + means that only the settlement owner's crew will be able to take good/food from claim flags. - Magic Mythos is now active for the weekend: 2x bonus rates for Harvesting, Taming, XP and Gold! - Future proofing landscape optimization (large patch) Just some further information on the update size, the reason it is so large is because a technical change went in place to improve the logic surrounding landscapes (not related to single player). Something we plan to improve more on in the future. This optimization will basically allow us to reduce the current install size of the game by, hopefully, ~33%. The way it works in technical terms is that all the landscape variants of the same shape will use one map, with material variants, rather than each having a redundant copy of the large maps themselves. This means we won't have to have all those additional copies, thus reducing the effective size of landscapes (which together comprise over 50% of the game's install size) v207.999 - Crew gold payment and food can now be done via your Company's claim flag. Crew that are on an island or on a fully anchored ship within Settlement range are eligible. 4. "My memory. King Robert Baratheon - murdered by a pig. Give me something for the pain, and let me die." - Robert Baratheon, Game of Thrones. Give me something for the pain, and let me die ... geat last words for my own exit from this game. And in the end, a pig is what did me in too. RIP Baby Superpig. Atlas was both, at times, awesome and horrible. There were exciting moments where small bits of hope shined through the ugliness of it's "Early Access" alpha status. Sailing the high seas with my man in search of treasure, narrowly escaping huge storms, watching dolphins arc alongside your ship ... this part of the game is really well done and has a lot of promise for a solid future game. There were times of fun and laughter - seeing a crewmate accidentally hang himself from a noose, or capturing an enemy in a gibbet and forcing them to sing bawdy pirate songs to get released. Political fights of massive proportions including inside betrayals. Trading with neighbors for precious resources - even if just lowly fruit or vegetable seeds worth their weight in gold. These were the good bits. Sadly, the good bits get drowned as quickly as a sailor lost in the open sea of what becomes a vast ocean of problems the game has this early on in its life-cycle. I'm not sure why game developers choose this route for their games these days. In the old days of EQ, WoW etc, you had to be invited to closed beta testing to experience this level of early/broken gameplay. Now, in modern gaming times, you PAY to play this sort of broken gameplay. It's bad. I'm too old for this. Figuratively, and literally in real life. There are just far too many glaring flaws with Atlas for me to be able to continue at this time on the public NA/PvP server. There are hundreds of players everywhere, still struggling to make it work ... but as the bigger fish eat the little fish ... so too do the majority of 'casual' players slowly start to dwindle away in just a month since it's release. Large mega-guilds.... alliances of sharks feeding on all the available smaller companies are beginning to starve, and turn on one another. And this is, at the bigger picture level, how the game will die before it's even completed development. More and more 'refugee' companies (small outfits of friends that can't survive in claimed territories) washed up on our lonely lawless island ... tired and wrung out to dry, having lost everything to bugs or predatory players with no further agenda than wiping them out because. Pirates. That sort of food-chain goes against the equilibrium needed in the predator-prey relationship but humans are, notoriously stupid, as always. Gamers are even worse. They'll prey upon everyone else and then proclaim the game is dead because they won. What exactly have they won in a game not even finished where all the smaller groups of players have already quit? But before I lose the point here, in the bigger picture, let me shrink it back down to the real problems, and sadly it's not even the PvP at all. That's actually going along as expected. "Give me something for the pain, and let me die." Ahh, the Fountain of Youth! I thought that particular game mechanic would be the most painful blow ... and it nearly was. Our characters were 100 years old now and looked like prunes with a horrible multi-stat debuff! This was insane. Adding insult to injury in an already buggy/laggy game - they decided to introduce this ridiculous 'Quest' to get a youth buff to reverse the aging mechanic they designed and implemented without providing any way to counteract it with children/lineage as was promised in the game mechanic they were developing. Seriously - who thinks this stuff up? "Oh hey, we'll put this insanely difficult game mechanic in (FOY) to challenge (read: punish) the players for a broken game mechanic we didn't even finish yet!" Wow. just. wow. So ... My man spent days building ramshackle sloops and sailing from one Freeport to a nearby golden age region, to the next. Over and over he did this with a sort of insane determination most gamers don't have. I certainly don't. I tried to stay awake until 3 am to participate in this spectacularly bad 'event' ... but over and over we died trying to run the gauntlet of high-level monsters. Sometimes he would arrive in a region only to find the FOY had moved on to the next. Sometimes the lag was so bad we couldn't even move or swim let alone evade the high-level monsters. Parking a ramshackle nearby meant it would be inevitably destroyed within hours either by previously mentioned high-level monsters, or players. Or both. But then, he finally made it. In a fluke experimental run to just find out the FOY location or if it was even still there on one particular island, he managed to outrun dozens of Chinese players that had come ashore en masse to run the gauntlet too. Like the running of the bulls, he finally avoided the chaotic aggro of fire elementals, gorgons, and dozens of high-level lions, bats, etc. etc. ... you get the picture. He was rewarded with the promised mythical youth regeneration. Me? I was offline trying to hold our real life together. You know, taking care of our kids, cooking a meal, being tired and making coffee for us. I watched him try to quickly run my character up the beach too from my PC as the opportunity had finally come! But then, our two beds on the sloop were instantly destroyed. Probably the fire elementals I'm guessing. Not players that time (amongst half a dozen lost sloops already lost)... So now my dude is young, and I'm still a 100-year-old crone with a crippling debuff and a young man husband invigorated and ready to go again! Well, this wouldn't work in real life and I can assure you it's not working in this ridiculous game. I'm disheartened and disappointed and he really did try. He even started the whole process all over again this weekend, albeit rather deflated this time because it was going to take days, again, to get that lucky shot at making it alive to the FOY without losing yet another (or half a dozen) sloop. But that wasn't what finally did me in. In the end, like Robert. It was a pig. "My memory. - Murdered by a pig." Because he had spent days building ramshackle sloops and sailing to various FOY regions, my man told me not to bother coming with him - just hold down the fort at our island base - keep our tiny company intact and try to avoid getting into fights with our fractious neighbors in a lawless region. We weren't in the mega-alliance anymore - we "retired" literally and figuratively as both players tired of claimed territory issues and old/debuffed characters too. We'll just hold a small piece of some lawless island until we get rid of this old age debuff! Famous last words. So, to keep myself entertained, I started taming animals. I tamed a bear so our crew-mates could gather fiber and outfit their ships and we could build a small base. I tamed two lions ... The Cadillacs of destruction I rode around proudly on our island, greeting neighbors ... and sometimes eating them ... accidentally or otherwise. We had a strange truce with the Chinese ... talking in short sentences on both sides to keep the language barrier to a minimum. Refugees from other companies and alliances moved in up the beach and we traded materials. I even had a cow to give us milk! Life was simple. And then came the pigs. The War Pigs. It was an addiction, really. First I tamed just one or two out of boredom and for fun... then a few more ... and then before I knew it we had a whole pack of pigs - I think I stopped counting at 10 of them. I selectively tamed only level 25+ wild pigs so they would level up to 50+ and become mini-tanks of death. Kept in a pack and all on neutral stance, they were lethal guards against anyone who tried, accidentally or otherwise, to even lay a finger on our base. Just try to fight 3-4 wild pigs at once, you'll see what I mean. Finally, I had two or three level 60-65 impressive males I was proud of and their 'harem' of lady pigs. Why not try to breed them? And so I did. The first two never made it through gestation ... a server rollback or reset aborted that effort, literally. Another pair kept glitching through the walls and wandering off ... I'd find them down by the beach several times. Maybe guard duty was more important than making little piglets. Who knows. And then it finally happened. We were about to eat dinner and my phone alarm beeped... gestation was up on another two females! I half-heartedly logged in while we were eating to check. Lo and behold, we had piglets! Two males... tiny and nearly dead. It was too hot! (we live on an eastern tropics island) ... we spazzed out and tried to get them to follow us into the shallow pond next to our base to cool them down ... The lions watched from their cathouse roof, licking their lips. One piglet (the superior leveled one, sadly) died immediately. The other barely survived with a few hitpoints to spare. We lovingly hand fed it. At first, it could only hold 5 or 6 berries in its tiny inventory ... but as the hours passed it grew and could go longer and longer ... the stacks of food grew. It ate chickpeas and turmeric, and berries galore! We were succeeding! Through heat waves (barely surviving each one in our covered breeding barn by a nice cool waterfall) and cold nights lighting torches and then snuffing them out before dawn and the inevitable heat to come that day. I nursed this tiny piglet. 6 hours later. Yes, six. It wanted to "cuddle"... the first level of imprinting! I was rewarded for all my hard work with a piggy cuddle and a measly 7% gain on imprinting. No increase to health or other stats other than the slow progress it had already been making. It was 6% matured by then. That's it. Roughly 1% maturation per hour. You do the math there. All this - for a pig? It was 3:30 am. I was exhausted. My man was off trying to find an island with corn ... the pig's 1st preferred food. Perhaps that would help our little piglet mature faster! I had to go to bed. 2 more sows were gestating and would have piglets in 5 hours! They have a 10-hour gestation stage. Well, you can already guess how it ends. Little baby Superpig died while I was sleeping. He either starved or died in a heatwave which happens every other in-game day or so on our island. He lived for less than 10 hours of real-life time when his gestation period was just as long. His total maturation process would have taken ten times that. The six hours I spent hand feeding and guarding him, adjusting the temperature in his barn ... wasted. I didn't even bother to get up for the 'birth' of the other pigs. Why bother? They would just die too. I've read the forums here extensively ... all the stories of the baby bears people spent equally insane amounts of time trying to keep warm with packs of penguins and dozens of campfires. The losses to glitches and server resets too. I guess I thought maybe pigs would be a little easier. More hardy perhaps. Why is this how they want the game's breeding mechanic to be? Why doesn't the MOTHER PIG care for the newborn infant as they do perfectly well in real life? I don't understand why a human player has to hand feed and watch a baby animal with 25 hitpoints die from being too hot, or too cold, or starvation because the humans had to sleep. This is insanity. ~~~ The Fountain of Youth is insanity. The pig (or any tamed animal) breeding is insanity. I'm ashamed to even admit I spent so many hours doing this I was exhausted and didn't do the dishes or get a decent nights sleep for days on end. This is ridiculous. This is not 'extreme survival game' fun. And so, my time in the Atlas world has ended. I'm sure it matters very little to the mega-alliances out there doing their shark tank thing. It probably matters even less to the developers of this game who designed these horribly broken mechanics which punishes me for being a 'casual' player and therefore unable to get to the Fountain of Youth or to raise a humble pig from birth to adulthood unless I either don't sleep for days on end or have 3-4 friends dumb enough to take shifts and help me out (which I would never ask friends to do). It's a pirate game... but the only thing getting pirated here is my sanity and I didn't have much of that to start with since I seem to enjoy subjecting myself to ridiculous early access survival games a lot. "Give me something for the pain, and let me die." I'll never make it to the Fountain of Youth. I am going to release the lions today. I will put them on aggressive stance so they can at least still hunt and feed themselves. My apologies to all the little lawless refugees and Chinese farmers on our island they will probably eat. When they finally do get taken down - at least they will have died free spirits! The pigs? King Henry, Sir Walter, Prince Humperdink and their harem of ladies... Bertha, Gertrude, Big Betty, Brunhilde, Fannie ... and many others... They become the property of our tiny company. There are a few good guys in there I know will feed them and keep them guarding the docks while they plunder for treasure. Feed the bear, she is happy and fat. Milk the cow, or the lions will eat her I'm sure. My character is 100 years old. She wants to swim to the bottom of the deep blue sea and erase the pain and enjoy the few memories of the sea she had... maybe one day this atlas will be a place to return to ... maybe when pigs fly! Oh, the glorious war pigs. Enjoy life, my noble friends! PS: If you're a Game of Thrones fan like me, here's a tribute put to "War Pigs" that is really well done and one of my favorites by Zurik to enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F_PDWZxNBA
  5. My whales are swimming with the settings that are written in the subject. Sea monsters are definitely there. About mermaids they say that there should be night and the player should sail on the ship. Only then will they begin to sing and become visible. That is, in god mode, they can not be found. Today I launched a 3x3 server, see if any of the players will find them.
  6. Despite your argument being...void of substance. I would say that "It's only a song" doesn't apply, songs like books are all protected by freedom of speech. You can sing about slavery all you want. You can even write a pro-slavery book, at the end of the day that is YOUR choice, you are not forcing the audience to read or listen to just as the developers are not forcing children to play the game. Parents are completely responsible for this part, you can't set that aside because it "promotes" something you disagree with. Games like music and art are a form of expression, creativity, and art. When you read a sci-fi book you know that isn't real, its fantasy this is where your argument falls apart trying to compare real-world tangible objects to fantasy and simulated reality...it isn't the same, not by a mile.
  7. If you get too close to them " a +- 50m radius" they will sing and your character , probably npc too , gets attracted without being able to do anything , you'll just jump into the water and go to them , when you're close enough they grab you and try to drown you , there will be a minigame to get free from them but you'll need to kill them asap to not be grabbed again or killed
  8. capture your enemy, feed them, let them sing every day
  9. Sing to the captors. Works every time. I honestly love that this is possible. Captors always get bored and you end up dying. You can speed things up by running (hold shift) around in circles to deplete stamina.
  10. I have been trying to report a bug I found today while trying to recruit a crew member that had mutinied because your crew pay system is a little rediculus. When I tried to recuit the crew man it required me to use 12 coins. it however did not work but consumed the 12 coins. when I tried to report this sing the bug reports feature it required me to select the server I play on. I however play on a private server that is current and upto date on all released patches.
  11. I can't speak for how the rest of the world does it- but we're on a predominant Alpha-spawning island and manage to keep our tames alive with planning. If you're harvesting and just leaving your tames on follow or stationary on flat ground- expect it to die. We also place accessible traps in every area we harvest. There's no way around the inevitable- all your possessions, regardless if they are inanimate or tame, can be lost at any time in the blink of an eye. That is the definition of survival. It happens. Removing the elements of danger when they are in fact actually manageable just makes this more like the chat simulator everyone is claiming this game is. The truth is, everyone just chats because they don't have a clue what they're doing, nor are willing to donate the brain juice it would take to come up with a plan of adaptation. No, let's just have the Dev's make a carebear title instead. Frankly, this is why they have unofficial server and mod capability. If you want a pacifist experience, or one that poses no real challenge or threat, make a PvE server for yourselves, turn off spawns, make campfires and sing kumbaya.
  12. Lets sing: "Fix the shitty server, Fix the shitty server... "
  13. What should be done ASAP: 1. Sollution to the unlimited flag claim system and/or limit company player count 2. More claim/build spots. 3. Alternative for fish (there is more sorts of seafood then only fish you know) 4. Longer decay on ships if its not a bug, because its not normal that a raft dissapears in an 8 hour timespan offline 5.Make sure there is a at least 1fresh water source on EACH island 6.After all previous -> Reset ALL progress for everyone and make sure that server infrastructure is ready for early acces part 2 For the bigger companies around who think current system is ok,: Give it a few more days, when you dudes also get overrun by our asian friends. Then you can also sing a salty song with us
  14. Hey I actually agree with you there. What they should have done is be like song writers and just sell the good ideas they have to make money. The aong writers don’t sing the songs, the good singers do. they are good at ideas but man they have been widely known for years now to be the worst dev company. Like literally the worst. In the beginning it wasn’t like that but they messed up so much even a lot of their white knights ended up hating them. Heck, I would even go as far as to say they should be advisors for actual good dev companies. Just as long as they don’t touch any of the programming at all! you know like a think tank
  15. Here is a hanky. Lets now hold hands and sing kumbaya while someone collects your tears.
