  1. There's nothing I / we can contribute with 20x resources, we're not into PvP... we built a giant houseboat, and exceeded the build limit... that's about the limit of 'contributing'. The game for us is managing resources, using tames to help farm materials, atm our elephant fills up inventory with one swing.. it's taken the labour out of the game, no longer do we have to go on a resource run and plan things, our tiger is over loaded with meat from a level 1 turtle... etc etc. I'm good with waiting until wipe. Right now it's like playing with god mode / private server with silly setting. Looking forward to the additions coming with the new update... THAT is when we can contribute something meaningful... right now... nothing thousands of other players are doing better.
  2. It's true we have stopped playing in lieu of the impending wipe. We were playing to explore, run maps for gold, and secure a future, but since the maps are changing (adding islands) there's no reason to explore now, no reason to gold run, no reason to resource stockpile.. All the reasons we play will be negated by the wipe. BUT after the wipe we'll be back and play on. I am curious to try the test realm, but it'll be to see what the landlord mechanics are like to determine if it's a direction we'd like to go. I'm in favor of the wipe, it's needed, you wont get me saying negative things about that, but what I will say is that the wipe needs to happen sooner than later, as things are in a strange limbo right now. It's difficult to log in to see our base half gone, all resources, gold, animals dead etc... as we didn't log in to maintain it... as the wipe ETA is pushed further and further away, it's going to keep us offline for longer. Will be back though!
  3. for this to be EVE you'd need to wall off each grid, with a single gate between squares where people can just sit all day and shoot weapons that automatically drop your anchor so you can't move. You'd also need to set harvest rates to 0.000001 in safe areas and x40 in the unsafe areas... then sit back with popcorn at the amount of PvErs rage quitting until it becomes like Elite Dangerous in OPEN mode
  4. The way I see it (in PvE) anyway, is that a claimed island would provide some better protection and be a better policed area, but lawless makes far nicer farming and taming spots. You wont get the tax and free to build a good outpost. After x amount of time, your base on the claimed island is yours, forever, no one can take it down as long as that initial period has elapsed. What we're going to do is have a MAIN BASE on a nice clean and good island claim, and a busy farming base in lawless where we actually build our ships.. We know that our stuff will be secure between them. The only thing we haven't talked about is where we'll keep the materials. One of the guys in the company said screw bases altogether, and have a house boat. We'll take our base with us on our travels. The only problem there is that anyone sleeping on the boat phases out of it when it's moved, so you'll need a base to log out to, and bed back to the boat when logged in.. or just swallow the death when you logged in, remembering to strip down when you log out in the first place. A lot of a lot!
  5. Oh the original claim system just didn't work at all for PvE, we built our home as exiles on a lawless island... and it was there that actually we started enjoying things. I'm 50/50 with the whole claim a whole island thing. Half of me wants to test it, perhaps try it and be one of those landlords with 'best interest' for everyone kinda thing. BUT then I realise I work, have a family, and simply cannot dedicate time per day to get rid of the same old foundation spam by someone hoping, just hoping I lose my mind and not bother... then you quit your island because it's just too much, and someone then has to take over, and run an island already corrupted by foundation spam. If lawless is where we again find ourselves, i'm ok with that if someone cannot just build a wall around us, or build fence posts to hold our brig / galleon to ransom.. Will see!
  6. I'm waiting to try it out Test it on the PTR before snapping a conclusion, some things may sound bad, but are actually not as dire when you see it working. I like Atlas, and don't want to see it turn a direction that limits fun to, but I / we have already played through the most challenging period... be silly to give up now, like giving up at the end of a marathon with the finish line just in sight. Eagerly awaiting the time when test feedback starts filtering through, going to be quite an exciting time reviewing peoples opinions and practical experiences.
  7. LOL that would be awesome! We'll see just how screwed up the scenario can get
  8. I'd like to try it actually. BUT the cynic in me tells me to KNOW what to do on day 1 so that I can 100% optimize the absolute scrum and bee-line to making that island claim FIRST! yeah i know it's cheesy, but PTR gives one good intel that could be enough to beat someone to it by either minutes or an hour or so. Also want to see what the upkeep cost is... if it's too high, i'll abandon land lord plans. Atleast I'll know beforehand and instead gun for a good lawless plot
  9. Exactly. Before wiping everyone's work out, they want to ensure the PTR is successfully representing the new direction of things. I assume there actually will be no wipe if there's a shit-storm.
  10. I have a Sinclair Spectrum running with 48k of RAM. I still get 90+ FPS in crowded harbours. OK I'm at a rez of 2x3 pixels, but it's still 90+ FPS.
  11. I know it's all fantasy talk. But will see how it goes. I just know there's going to be an absolute scrum, a gold-rush for islands. I know it's going to be at 3am UK time as well.. realistically it's never going to happen, that of us that work 10+ hours a day, just not going to get a look in
  12. I know there's no hope in gods will that I'll ever be in time to make a claim to an island, but, have thought about this. I actually want to give it a try. If successful, I can guarantee that it'll be the best island out there... Am I selling myself? Had this fantasy chat with a rl friend of mine over dinner the other night, and the more we talked about it, the thought of giving it a go sounds quite interesting / fun, even if it fails and it spits in out face, we'd have tried it. Rules we decided on are a) no foundation spam or blocking resource nodes. #1 rule. b) no toxic behaviour which includes and not limited to insulting fellow islanders, and using offensive / racial dialogue. c) just be mindful and respectful of your neighbours, don't go building walls infront of someones animal shed. d) build a community, and be helpful. Doesn't hurt to actually be helpful. That's pretty much it. Depending on what it actually costs to upkeep, we'd balance the tax rate against flat upkeep. May have slightly higher tax rate on 2x weekends, but keep as low as possible. Encourage EVERYONE to be involved. Listen to residence, if people have a say they shouldn't be made to feel like slaves at all. Individuals or company reps can make themselves heard. I'd want to listen, and, try to actually be helpful and mindful to the fact that players actually play for fun.. It may never work, but until one tries, who knows. BUT I know for certain, that, I'll miss the scrum. People will take days off work, and each and every claimable island will be gone in a few hours. Then like everyone else that misses out, will probably just kick about in lawless. Owning an island sounds fun in theory especially if we get to talk more with fellow islanders, and work collectively to police and keep the island neat and tidy in exactly the way the community wants it. Will it happen? doubt it. Once the claims start flying about, it's game over.
  13. I always saw lawless as a retreat. I think with the new policies coming in for claimed islands, for me particularly, lawless is becoming more and more attractive. I'd be devastated if decay timers made lawless inhospitable. Really there's not enough real estate for people looking to just own an allotment without lawless... Not looking for anything greedy, just a reasonable size circle of land where i can build a house, farm, keep animals, and a ship yard will do me just fine. Even if it's just one claim of reasonable size it's ok. I think more and more people will move to lawless when land lord horror stories start flowing.
  14. This is just a copy / paste / copy / pasta bolognese from another thread but could be appropriate... Put the old flag claim system into the NEW lawless islands with a slight change. Someone can only have 3 flags in the world.. One can choose to have one larger base, or 3 small bases scattered around. That way you have a base perimeter where no one can build, but you're capped and limited as to how much you can build around it... so no more spam, and no fear of someone building 3 tiles from your animal shed. It's still technically lawless because there's no supreme "governor". Claimed islands have a governor, rules / laws etc... where lawless just has limited claimable scope. Since alliances aren't a thing now it's just company. Politics: If you own 3 plots of land and join a company, then that land belongs to the company. If you get kicked, you get your claims back and no longer controlled by the company. That stops griefing / trolling by company leader. IF YOU quit the company, then your land remains with the company. It's as easy as that. Stops YOU quitting and running off with the main base etc. All other regions just are as they are. For some reason it makes sense to me. Maybe I just had too much coffee.
  15. I know this may put the cat among the pigeons so to speak... But a comment I read in another post, and it got me thinking, it's actually not a bad idea. One can choose to have one larger base, or 3 small bases scattered around. 16. Unfortunately you're absolutely on the money there WT. If only one could win the neighbour lottery, and have folks that appreciate space and, are decent enough to not build a Chernobyl style 'sarcophagus' building over your entire base. Sad to say it we have been victim to fence posts being used to block our brig after a dispute over a temporary elephant trap in a field... yeah it's a sad world sometimes.
  17. I totally agree on both points tbh. Had it been like you said, the wipe probably wouldn't have been necessary. The only consolation being that it's drummed home the importance of lawless, and opened up everyones eyes for unscrupulous morons spamming foundations. It's human nature to like privacy and living space, but it's so against the game spirit to twat on your fellow players. I'm to the point where they can do what they like in claimable territory, as long as foundation spam, and measures are in place to stop idiots griefing in lawless (especially PvE), then my experience will be enhanced.
  18. all we need is a flag, a reasonable yet not greedy space for base, and where no plonker can brick your ship yard in. Limit flags to two or 3 per person in the whole map to allow small outposts. done. solved.
  19. You have to remember the wipe is unfortunately a necessary evil. Visited two islands last night to treasure hunt and pay for my crew (been neglecting it for a week or so now). The first island I went to was lawless. Rife foundation spam, someone went to clear and absolute measures to keep everyone off about 1/4 of the island. Foundations were seen up mountains, all over the beaches, in land, and around resources. Frustrating and infuriating. The second island we went to was claimed, 2 out of 3 treasure areas were boxed in, with roof, so no way to actually get to the dig / damned spawns, hard to make out your position against the sea of red. Not one section of island was't flag spammed. The more I traveled the more I realise greed was the reason for this wipe. Unfortunately the minority has blown it up for the majority. We as players are to blame. Also unfortunately, the dev team have to work countermeasures to greed in to the game, and by doing so, forced to alter mechanics which ultimately fix the minority, and hinder the majority. I don't know what's worse. Greedy players being greedy, or, grapeshot mitigating greedy players with unfortunate mechanics.
  20. it's not actually a bad idea. Sort of like counties / states inside an isle. Better for sure than having one communist leader for the whole island!
  21. for me, 3 flags would be absolutely fine. 3 flags total. DONE. I can have 3 islands with 1 flag, or a big base area using all 3 where no one else can build inside that.. It's about making that choice.. I only need 1 main base. My crew / peeps only need one communal base. Be nice to have small outposts / safe houses somewhere.. but, the important part is that one main base. Needs to be secure, free from griefing (on PvE), and ours. Not at the mercy of an unknown 3rd party, foundation spammers or people building something around my bear.... That's it. That's all that I need from this. It's not complicated, doesn't need to be complicated. 3 flags total.
  22. I must say that how much I love Ark, it transferred to Atlas with as much delight. Hoping the new "mega update" will indeed prevent PvE griefing / foundation spam, and people building over into and across your plots of land in both lawless and claims. Other than that I'm one super happy punter. Big fan of Jat & team's work. Confident Atlas will continue to entertain for many years. Cudos to all.
  23. I'm absolutely never, likely to ever rever weather feather ever ever ever ever never... EVER going to be someone's tenant in Atlas. 1 reasonable, non griefable, no douche entitled, no ones slave, just plain old simple own plot of claim to call home. That's me sorted right there. Else claimable islands are just a tourist destination for me / us, prefer to live on lawless, and reap whatever penance goes with it
