  1. I saw it coming, but flame arrows got nerfed into Oblivion. What do folks recommend for PVE combat?
  2. All I see are lots of easily stolen claims. #workingasintended
  3. That's what I'm thinking too. I have a medium speed on my sloop, and I generally have no problem with the roughly 180 degrees you have to sail with the wind to outrun SotD. I'm curious if you can still reliably outrun SotD with a large handling and small speed though. Would definitely make tacking against the wind easier.
  4. If you build a bank, you can set it to take a cut of any resources harvested within your claims up to 30%. (For anyone not in your company).
  5. Although, you have a point. I could charge them "rent" up front, invite them into the company as recruits, and boot them after their "rent" is up unless they pay again. Still, a shame my bank is largely useless if I do that.
  6. With the rank settings for companies, I'm not too worried about bringing in people. I have rooms that are "public" and a back room that is for admins only. Problem is, I'm a greedy land Baron that wants to tax people for using my shipyard. Can't find a way to this. Only way to let them build their own shipyard near me would be to give up a claim. I have a relatively small claim of one land claim and one overlapping sea claim; so that's not an option. I'll double check the bank settings, but I don't think there's anything in there that let's me tax recruits in my own company.
  7. Playing on PVE. We built a "tavern" with public workstations (smithy, loom, Tanner, etc) to give homeless Pirates a temporary place to build up while we benefit from our land tax. I tried setting my small shipyard that's collecting dust to public so they could build a starter ship, but you can't do that in the game apparently. The only way to allow access to a shipyard is to invite into our company. Fair enough, but I believe we won't be able to benefit from the land tax from company members. Any work arounds to encourage my anti social ass to bring noobs into the company or a way to let them use our small shipyard while still collecting the land tax?

  9. Do you have to kill all the spawns to dig up the treasure, or can a teammate kite them away while you dig up the treasure?
  10. You articulated my thoughts far better than I could have. Well said.
  11. Sea of Thieves may be more up your alley. WC/GS makes the have they want and it's up to you to play or not. Otherwise we'd have hot garbage like fallout 76 that tried to cater to everyone. Personally, I'm thankful people with toxic attitudes that can't handle the challenges of the game get weeded off my server.
  12. If mobs fight anything like the sea dino's do in Ark, they'll spin in circles until one of them dies.
  13. Are merchant ships spawning in yet? I'm curious if they'll fight with the SotD and help keep their numbers in check.
  14. The fact they don't seem to be affected by wind direction drives me bananas. The whole point of mastering sailing combat is to strategically use wind direction to your advantage. When I position myself so they have to go against the wind to get to me, but rush at me anyway is frustrating.
  15. Sssshhhhhh Be quiet so the devs stay distracted with everyone complaining about SotD and claims while we level up from obliterating alpha's.
  16. Select the fire arrows and drag them to your bow in your hot bar. This will "load" your bow with for arrows instead of stone.
  17. Merchant ships being added might help. I assume they'll agro and fight the SotD, reducing their numbers. Spawning on top of 4 when you switch servers is still got garbage though.
  18. They added merchant ships back today. Hopefully they'll agro on SotD and help thin the herd.
  19. Do bouy's prevent SotD from entering or spawning? can you build them in the middle of the ocean? Wut the wut?!
  20. Good idea. It would have to be a generous timer though since it would be hard to break away when you spawn in directly on top of them.
  21. You'll be there hero we need if you do. Don't forget weight in your tests!
  22. I'd love for someone to data mine this to get actual numbers for Max speed by different sail types and weight.
  23. Trying to see if a smuggler/speed sloop playstyle is viable, or if sloops are like Ark's Trikes, neat for your first tame/build, but pretty much useless after that. Some questions: -Am I correct in that speed sails benefit sailing directly with the wind to your back while handling sails allow you to sail against the wind faster (while tacking)? -Are SoD even affected by wind? If not, then handling sails are worthless since you cannot outrun them by tacking into the wind, right? -So from your experience, are speed sails or handling sails (or I guess even weight sails if you're carrying weight) more effective at getting away from SoD? -Anyone figure out difference from two small sails vs 1 medium sail? -I'm assuming weight is a large factor on speed. I escaped SoD on my first run, and then got blown to pieces on my way back when my weight was full. Lesson learned, but I wanted to confirm that a sloop with very little weight can still get away from SoD before I try again. This makes me wonder if I should try a weight sail instead of a speed/handling sail... -Any other suggestions or tips for getting away from SoD? I noticed I was easily able to pull away from green, but a yellow was able to sink me when I was 2/3's full on weight but sailing directly with the wind with a speed sail. I was getting shot at from a yellow, got slowed down trying to get away from 2 greens, and then got jumped by all 3 when I crossed into a new server.
