  1. Did they say it was removed? People earlier were treating it like a bug.
  2. In my brief time on the ptr, I found that people are being fairly stupid about building. I reached an unclaimed island that already had 2 bases on it, and neither person had claimed the island. The island was small and rocky, and they had built in the only two places to put down a reasonable base. Do they not expect to get wiped immediately when the island is claimed? Depends on what you mean by "the game". It's not on the live servers right now. It IS in the patch notes and supposed to be on the ptrs and eventual live servers.
  3. The claims are coming and going pretty quickly on the ptr, but I think that's because everyone is just trying it to see how it works. Many people on the ptr are just scouting out the new content for the live servers. That's what I was doing there. My expectation for pve is that the claims are going to go very fast, and they'll stay gone much longer, because people have already done their testing on the pvp ptr. Also, I don't expect the game will let you put down a tax bank on land you haven't claimed. I didn't try that, so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it would work.
  4. They said 1 week for the test, but it may be longer. The dates always get changed. You need gold to place a flag. Try to place it and it will tell you how much gold. Then just F1 with the gold in your inventory and voila.
  5. Bonjour Griffine.
  6. Agreed. I mean, the game systems do have to support this up to a point, but being open world and part sandbox, this IS how the game is supposed to be played, with players coming up with their own ideas to enrich the game. It's much more fun traveling around a varied world with players doing creative things. People think of "content" in pve like "Go kill X and get Y", which gets really old after a while. Players can create a lot more content in a lot more interesting ways. And as we go, we bug the devs for design changes we need to do more and better things. If the devs provide the mechanics and the players provide the creative content. things get interesting. When it comes to core game mechanics, then yeah..things like the claim system...some of us are making a stand on that, because what's been put out there so far is disappointing. (Not disappointing enough to give up yet and go play a game of widget factories. If there are two genres I find boring, it's industrial and dinosaurs )
  7. BFD= Big friendly duck, yes. The point is there may be no reason to wipe the pve PTR. Why wipe it, if at the end, it's got the version of the code you want running on live? Why not just declare the ptr done and the mega release complete and just keep it up and running? It's doesn't have to "go to live". Assuming it's running on the real hardware used for live, it's already the live server. Moving everything to a new server is like shoveling a pile of dirt 3 feet over into another pile of dirt. It would really affect the way that people play on that server and the number of people that play on it.
  8. It's not a little thing! It's a BFD..maybe. Also, it's not the same as EU pve, which got wiped to put up a pvp test server. It didn't get replaced with the newer version of its own server. The original plan was to run the PTR(s) alongside the live servers, until the test was done, then wipe the live servers and restart them with the completed test code. (In hindsight, since the PTRs turned out to be full 15x15 grids, that would have been dumb anyway. Why not just leave that up as live when you're done with it? No reason to keep moving the code around.) For pve, that's not what's happening. The live servers are already gone, a test server is coming up, and it'll be the only pve server running. So at the end of the test what happens? They've already wiped the live servers, and the only thing left to do is bring up a copy of the completed pve test. But they've already got a running copy of the completed pve test up and running. Assuming it's running on the actual hardware needed for a live server, why wipe it? There's no reason to. The only thing they might want to do is reset the skills, because everyone starts the ptr with all skills unlocked. Aside from that, they should be good to go.
  9. Not to make this thread even larger (because it's in the bug forum, and it's not a bug, really), but creating our own local player shops is kinda hard to do. Even 1 on 1 player trading is hard to do without a good interface. A while back, I posted a tongue-in-cheek help wanted ad for Atlas Mail - We're going postal! (TM) . That's an idea that could actually work for player trading if only notes could have items attached to them. People could ship stuff everywhere. But everything takes a bit of mechanics to make it work, even if the players want to do the heavy lifting of organizing to do it. I like your unlocked box idea. I was going to do something similar with a waterfront restaurant. They would both be good things, but would be even better with some advanced container permissions - all can put items in, none can take them out, etc. What about being able to set decay rates on something small like a note? You could drop hints around the island to a goodie box , with the last hint giving the pin code, and the notes self-destruct when read?
  10. There is supposed to be a limit on pve. On pvp they're supposed to fight over them. Completely agree with that for pve, because the only way to free up an island that new people can claim is when the old claimant leaves the game. I don't mind some of the resources not being available everywhere, because I'd like to see a really good trading system in the game, and promote traveling, etc. But the basics ought to be everywhere. If you can't even build a tiny dock and basic tools without having to travel, it's bad. And if blueprint crafting ever becomes worth anything, then you could have basics+ nearly everything else on each island and still promote trade and travel with the multi requirements for blueprints. This is just definitely NOT the system we wanted. The only way I'd be a tenant is if the landlord was already a buddy in the game. With an unknown? No. After a day on the ptr, it looks like being a landlord won't be a bed of roses either. Having said all that, I hate the OP's idea of instances for claims. It's bad enough having to be on a separate island from your friends if you all claim. That would put everyone in a whole separate universe.
  11. As of yesterday, I couldn't put any mats into the flag inventory at all, only gold coins. Haven't tried it today. So it's either all gold, or it's bugged. Hard to tell what the bugs are when you're not sure how things should be working.
  12. It's not so much the solo vs company for me, but that I play with lots of small interruptions through the day. It's hard to just jump off your ship and go run an errand or do something else for 20 mins. and then come back. It's much easier to grab mats, then stand in a safe spot for 20 and then go back to grabbing mats. Re. the pin codes - I don't know how many of the pin code hackers they got rid of, but I'm betting some are still around.
  13. No, there's a gold cost, and it goes up depending on the size of the island, but it's not the same as the island points. A 15 point island will cost less than a 40 point island, but it won't be 15 gold and 40 gold upkeep.
  14. I thought the tax rates were meant to help pay the claim upkeep. Seems weird that they're not. Not a big fan of the upkeep being gold instead of mats.
  15. You don't need to. That number you see - 0/200 is telling you you have 200 hundred points, of which you have spent 0. If you claim an island worth 50 points, it will say 50/200.
  16. If you wipe your live servers to put the test code on them, that's your new live version. It would be very strange to wipe the live servers, put test code on it, patch that test code with fixes for whatever problems show up, and then declare that the test is done, and wipe the server again just to put the exact same code back onto the server. Wouldn't it?
  17. I didn't try out the destruction stuff yet, but I might do some testing on it in the morning. I did see the lockable thing. Maybe there's a chance that's just how pvp is? I also forgot to check to see how far the claims extend from the land into the water. And how about that claim cost being gold instead of mats supplied by the tax bank? That wasn't a good surprise for me. I"m bad at gold and good at mats.
  18. I went onto the pts just to check out some of the new stuff. The way the claims look to me is that they cost gold, the settlers put a % of their mats into the flag/bank and those mats are just for the private use of the landlord. I don't think that's what pays the tax. You can retrieve mats out of the flag/bank, but you can't put them in. The only thing you can put in there are coins. Also, just fyi..it looks like containers are NOT being created locked, and there's no pinwheel option to lock them. Just a pin code thing. I'm used to playing on pve. Can someone say if it's always worked that way on pvp?
  19. Taxes are stored in the flag, and that makes me think the upkeep is mats, but they're equating that to a gold cost to place the flag? The wording is too weird to tell what they mean.
  20. I think it was down for about 20 mins or so earlier. I couldn't get in then. Can now.
  21. I crashed out and it's not showing on the server list now.
  22. What's undependable is their scheduling. When it comes to providing new announced features, it's delay delay delay. When it comes to taking something away, it's shockingly early with no warning. Should be the other way around.
  23. Compiling? Throwing it on their in-house test server and seeing if it crashes or kills the network? Who knows? Next live chat we may see Jat in a chef coat throwing hard drives and artist's renderings of goofy creatures into a large pot.
  24. I dunno, but here's a Kraken pie. I assume it's filled with kraken mousse.
