  1. Yea i meant a front and rear lock via broadside using 2 harpoons.. Probably sounds better in theory than reality. (Gally vs whatever) However this would, theoretically be a POSSIBLE part of boarding methodology so my head isn't completely in the clouds lol Of course SotD cant be defeated via boarding im pretty sure... So oh well. Maye possible uses later
  2. Is there a way to disable this that I'm overlooking?
  3. @George Catcher (or anyone else) ever try using the harpoons to lock the ships together broadside? Does it work in PvE? Details on the mechanics would be appreciated
  4. End of 3rd season June Large cannons ONLY worked in gunports, zero placement options anywhere else on ship. This why i ran about 4 per side on the bottom deck placed in the middle of my gally. Did 2 big battles annihilating 6+ SotD formations via raw firepower & slow manuevers. Never tried harpoons but considered it. Ship was specced 160def/ 160 offense the rest split between beds and sturdiness. The Captains feats help a TON Became annoyed at the inability to manuever and only recovering like 20% of the flotsams. Considered getting a teammate runng a brig to tail me, covering my backside and to pick up loot. Docked it and set it aside as a possible Kraken ship but then wipe occurred
  5. Both others and myself have had variations on this idea.. Beachfronts should be pre divided, visibly on land like a risk map, into claimable zones. Period. Problem solved. Enough room for a moderate base, shipyards, oceanview and inland access. Problem solved zero eyes on site required beyond initial set up and nuanced followup. Ez pz
  6. Theres a great weight article or section under guides forum which reinforced something i had intuited already... Main point seemed to be.. After 50% total ship weight achieved the speed rolloff becomes icreasingly worse. Point being the speed loss going from 50% to 60% is WAY worse than when you go from 40% to 50%
  7. Sorry still waking up drinking coffee... When i did most of my SotD fighting i was still new to the game and i ran 21-24 fine cannons on a common brig w a 180 frame. Had 6 per side, 6 rear and 3 in front. Also i ran the Captain skill tree spec giving faster cannon reloads Another caveat, we had a company member nekkid ready to fast travel to repair as readed who had max repair skill Also its been a while, after adding crew slots i focused on defense to offense at a 3:1 ratio if i remember correctly.. Brought down some red SotD (Brigs maybe) but i dont remember more because i wound up rage scuttling the brig due to a glitch. Last thing i dont recall the SotD rewards being very substantial given risk vs reward..
  8. "Ive seen planets turn faster than galleys" was how i felt after using them to fight SotD.. And recovering the loot took longer than the fight i completely agree w @George Catcher on both points... and my gally had 6 handling sails
  9. Woops forgot herbs i think, ANY herbs will do
  10. I used large cannons on the bottom deck in some middle gunports. Theory being lower deck doesn't shoot as far as upper decks and mid ship horizontal rotation isnt as important + extra dmg
  11. Lots of good suggestions here... I like them all pretty much but @Acemac idea sounds extra interesting since it offers an approach via the lower axis. Can anyone corroborate?
  12. Im happy offer some friendly advice as a show of good intention and to network. Also "griefing" is both a player experience and a playstyle so making it 100% impossible isn't possible if humans interact on a platform. I mispoke. I admit it. Woops Let me restate my position. It could easily be reduced substantially. Very substantially. Other forum members have proposed some teneble methods if the devs want to keep the current business model. I don't. The model is flawed. Flawed business model = flawed game. If they want the juicy stuff, Im available to provide the company with direct professional consulting. Almost 40 years AS an rpg gamer. Other credentials. Simply stated, i know how to make this product WAY more fun and popular, with a ridiculous ROI. Sorry to be a vague tease but what would i be if i just gave it away for free, to anyone, w out developing a relationship lol Some things just cant be given away for free, not by me atleast, got kids to feed. Im talkin big picture, industry changing things in addition to addressing the flaws in the fundamental mechanics and implementation. No further comment. Haters gonna hate (not talkin about you SusanT) Ranger out
  13. I love parts of this game... If i get on the servers I'll get too annoyed at the ridiculous amount of opportunity and money theyre missing out on..
  14. Think Im gonna go the radioman03 route (singleplayer) until they decide what theyre doing. Atleast i can nerf the grind, griefing and lag till then..
  15. If the mechanics are correct then eyes on sight situations are low. Griefing in games is a fact. If it can be done it will be... Therefore structure the game so it can't be done. Period. That is the only correct answer. To everyone posting hopefully you know I'm not critical of your statements and i apologize if i sound harsh
  16. Ill say this actually, i think players acting as GMs potentially opens a giant can of worms unless implemented perfectly and policed regularly. Building and claiming are fundamental game mechanics that need work and should be high priority and theres several better solutions. GL yall and have fun
  17. I'd say it but I'm becoming repetitive so... *bump
  18. Can't remember the exact stat but i ran w high fortitude (~30-50) & high hps (150+) Pork Pies and Monarchs Cakes. The ingredients overlap. Other than meat the ingredients come from passive tames, wheat, sugar, eggs & milk Get a few cows for milk, thats straight forward, farm the wheat (use large plots, trust me) and do an occasional sugar haul (any sugar or sap) Get enough chickens to make egg collection fast also getting tons of poo for fertilizer. Chicken coop- ~25 chickens can fit in a 3x1 2walls high, open front w gate. Place ~15 on the floor, install 4 triangle shelves SEPERATED from eachother ABOVE chickens on the floor. EACH triangle holds 3 chickens one on tip and 1 on each side, which if placed properly will drop eggs into piles w floor chickens. *Dont forget to put on passive and disable group whistles Shelf Life 14 days w preserving salt and 90ish days on ice. Eating just ONE pie and ONE cake (drink water as needed) will yield a perfectly flat vitamin bar and nutrition buff about 50% of the time. Also youll have plenty of leftovers to giveaway or barter with. Hope that helps. Nice sidenote ZERO fish or cats required
  19. @Gomez Addams just skimmed it but yea thats sharp
  20. Tropical areas or even using Tropical Freeports would probably work ,as a last resort, to harvest sugarcane which is/was an acceptable substitute. Not familiar w new map, sorry If you use Freeport dont forget ship decays faster there GL
  21. I can attest to a fair warning procedure that was both balanced and clear.
  22. Thats a bummer losing ships and tames etc. I sympathize with that frustration... Maybe i can help... I remember being sooo happy exploring w an awesome new decked out schooner.. I was heading up a coast-line taking in the scenery, figuring out resource locations, scouting potential bases etc., and learning about the game.. BAM!!-1200dmg, 1200dmg, 1200dmg, 1200dmg... My ship raggdolled and throttled then sank... I was befuddled. Zero time to react. Standing on shore staring at the wreckage wondering what happened? NOTHING was visibly near my ship.. Didn't want to swim out for a look because i thought it was some invisible-sea-monster-thing and i didn't have a nearby bed.. for 15 minutes shoreside w 2 NPCs "Is this the Kraken Ive heard about? A squid or the killer whale?"... then anger kicked in, i was SOOO PISSED. "WTF this a terrible game mechanic how can i fight or evade a DAMN MONSTER I CAN'T SEE??!!"...... Someone strolled upon me while i was contemplating rage quitting.. "Need help?" she asked. Smoke came out of my ears while i explained i was sank by an invisible sea monster.. "What?" she asked again I explained the invisible-monster encounter, again, and pointed out the debris in the water. "Oh, that sucks" she said.. .... "Wait here".. She got her Co member, swam out, investigated and concluded it was a bug, invisible friggen rock. Filed a bug report. I wound up joining them. Had a great time for a few months and learned ALOT... Point being this isn't the final product. Also they encourage a "focus" to get feedback. I am NOT saying in ANYWAY that your wrong. My only advice is YOU purchased it so play it the way YOU want. Tell them what sucks, whats fun and why. Take breaks as necessary, i am. GL
  23. Sorry to digress but my solution for annoying snakes at my base was guard dogs.. Wasn't perfect, sometimes alpha snakes killed them, had to reposition them etc however since they fed off the snakes it offered a less time intensive solution than puckle or swivel. Sometimes id place a bear just ahead to tank. Built an open trapping shooner and a ramp in polar and kited around 15 wolves off the cliff, into the ship taming as i went. (Sidenote just remember to put a backboard opposite of the ramp or the wolf will fly over your ship like superman..) When i finally had high hp wolves 6-10 gave a decent semi-circle of protection around the area, just keep them in pairs After that, heavy snake infestations were less annoying and even borderline profitable by reducing meat runs..
  24. I didn't advocate it being stackable, however, if so, i would suggest diminishing returns over time to reduce camping
  25. I apologize I'm laughing at your recollection not your frustration.
