  1. Ditto, except that it happened to me this season on PvP a few months ago i think... Was advised by other forum members to do as undertaker suggested. Bummer, good luck
  2. Had they been used recently? Wreckage or poof? PvP or PvE? Positive the anchors were set? Not a freeport, correct?
  3. @gumbyc Yea that sentence stating "it will be the way to earn gold" had me scratching my head also.. On the 8/25 Q & A it was stated that in addition whaling, other jobs such as shrimping and lobstering were being looked at as part of the strategy moving forward.. If you, or others, could comment on exactly what still provides revenue as this unfolds i would be appreciative. My favorite activity was whaling and diving. Since i am on hiatus the info would be nice. Also details regarding trade.. Like is there a trade ship i can physically go after? Do i have to haul/ send resources to a captured control point for the defences to respawn? PvP/ PvE nuances? Etc Thanks, have fun
  4. @Chucksteak Thought about the lawless style, was in a co and we got wiped from a regular island. So we tried it biefly, scrambled there and immediately came under fire from a group of LvL 120 megas roaming the shores. The fighting was kinda fun but building in that location seemed futile. Proceeded to go back to solo, found a gracious island owner, set up shop and went back to whaling/ diving. If i would've had the passion to build a proper puckle spammed, cannon riddled, walled off monstrosity probably would've been ok. As i said before, it just suddenly felt like chores tho. Between feeding the tames, feeding the farmhouses, emptyin the warehouse, repairing and restocking my ships, food prep i just didnt have anything left after that.. Dunno how you do it. Let me know if raiding trade routes is any fun... If its on your radar that is.. Loot etc
  5. Dude seriously, @eeeceee To OPs original point i prefer PvP as a lone wolf OR a tightly knit Spec Ops style (I'm a vet remember?). It's just barely feasable in the current game model. Didn't start barreling ships RPK style so maybe its more feasible now, dunno tho.. Smashing the PvP community into a smaller sandbox will result into the following cycle: Megas will eat all the sheep. Then they'll begin eating eachother.. At which point they'll be forced into choices.. 1.Cater to the sheep to gain an advantage 2.Let the server go dark from boredom proving flawed modeling 3. Hold hands and have pre agreed staged battles, which will result in winners and losers. Animosity possibly ensues and choices 1 & 2 are on the table again along w some high stakes intrigue. Dunno just pokin around for fun but i found minimal enjoyment playing PvP this season. I don't mind living on a Megas island and paying some taxes as long as they're clear I'm not their bitch. Point is have some drama in a PvP MMO, or don't, ...just knock it off with this middle of the road shit
  6. Pretty sure both digging holes and fishing for gold are exploitable due to macros, so they probably had to get rid of them to get more accurate feedback. Reagarding playercount there is a threshold somewhere, after all one of the primary drivers of any MMO is player interaction. Obviously the need is higher on PvP. I'm actually surprised in retrospect that they didn't do 2 PvE servers and a single PvP server. I kind of get it on PvE because gererally people find a spot, go on a building/ breeding spree then coast along, occasionally playing or checking out updates.. so alot of bandwith gets stuck in idle... In PvP however, if ya wanna see "hardcore" and total Darwinism then let everyone fight it out on a single server lol. Shit would get hardcore quick.. Server processing would need to be drastically improved, BUT, for good PvP TESTING and balancing then, well, stuff ALL the BIG DAWGS IN AN OCTAGON AND LETTEM RUMBLE.. You could have every loophole and exploit nailed in like 2 weeks Just my usual ramblings, not specifically advocating this immediately. Just offering observations based on the current game model which many peeps know I'm NOT a fan of... Flame away Have a good day all
  7. Yea as i was trying to think of the appropriate analogy something in the back of my head was telling me that i may be blundering. Took 4 years to paint atleast, no? Lol I am going strictly off memory and dont have a wiki out... I just remember a story of one of the masters ( Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, etc) staring at a huge marble (granite?) block for several months, and making a few minor notes. He then had the giant block flipped over and proceeded to sketch and scribble for a few more months until finally his patron for the project came over, lost his shit and screamed "GET TO WORK!!". The artist calmly replied "I am working". After another month or 2 when his patron was on the verge of going apeshit again the artist began the actual carving and, very slowly, created what is considered possibly the finest statue ever. Wish I could remember more specific details but thats all I've got and I believe it to be true. Also, having served in the military, I would be lying if I said that harsh and terrible toil were unnecessary to achieve success. Lets be clear though, this is a video game, not a battle. Furthermore, a wise general is cautious regarding the time and manner in which his troops are placed in danger. The battle should be won BEFORE the sword is drawn... I came on this game around xbox launch. I wasn't there at the beginning but I've seen the videos, heard the stories and spoken to people who clearly wish they could spit venom when invited to come back... @Whitehawk i stated that i agree that vague "EA" status is an issue. When all of my grinding and planning in Season 3 went poof i raged. I've made complaints. I've reported bugs. Also, similar to @Cpt.Yarrrs point i feel kinda cheated that i paid to be a beta tester.. Lesson learned. Companies selling noted. My opinion was given and advice has been offered for a negotiable price. That being said this isn't an etsy craftable or the Sistine Chapel. It's a debatable clusterfuck named Atlas lol . Theres alot of directions this thing could still go, ranging from a shut down to a GOAT. However the LAST thing i want to see is it simply cleaned up, taken out of EA and sold perpetually as currently designed. THAT, to me atleast, would be a monumental blunder. TC and have a good day
  8. I agree that open ended "EA" is an issue, however i am unqualified to point the finger. Also long hours, hasty decisions, or the "crunch" as i believe it is known in software development should be avoided at all possible times. Can you imagine if some middle manager was constantly busting Michaelangelos balls to hurry up on the chapel ceiling? I am therefore stuck. I see both sides of the issue. Then I envision what this game actually could be and I can only shake my head. Nuff said.
  9. @Gomez Addams You didn't see the documentary about the time Blackbeard tamed some elephants, harvested lumber, built infastructure then conducted a business deal with his harbormaster and carpenters to build a custom ship? Then decided to maintain a control point? All the while never marooning a dissenter or making them walk the plank? JK, lol i concur completely. Sorry I'm a veteran and the smartass in me just spills out on occasion. I actually feel sorry for the companies involved because at this point, imo, anything short of a grandslam/ hailmary/ homerun is a PR disaster. Unless, of course,....well NM
  10. Pro tip If you or a teammate enjoys farming/ cooking, make pork pies & monarch cakes. In an iced preservation bag they last like 90 days w a 5 day refill on the ice. 14 days w salt. Then carry water. Frees up a hotbar slot and yields a flat nutrition distribution. Also the cake and pie recipes have overlapping ingredients. Some people do pies and fish n chips. I preferred the cakes/ pies. This assumes your in the correct biomes of course. I used ice at my base and salt on the ships due to weight as NE0 stated. Then again i was primarily a whaler so ice and potatoes weren't an issue.. Developing a second base or a trade relationship is the solution if your current biome isn't compatible for potatoes. At one point, being in a hot biome, a team member actually dug the necessary potatoes up w a shovel and i did the cooking/ farming/ brewing. Good luck Also i realize this doesn't make ice machines work as requested just thought I'd offer my experiences. Sidenote when sugar was the issue I'd take a bear and grab 20k from a freeport.
  11. @eeeceee & @Nacona I definitely preferred season 3 map, even if they would have just downsized it or reorganized the islands but kept the BIOMES as they were. Also YES i would love to lead a complete overhaul of this game. Specifically run it on a seperate server and let the fans vote with their feet. I truly believe the concept has huge potential but that the direction is way off. Believe what you wish but i began rehashing/ reinventing D&D games when i was 12. I'm 45 now and I've played alot of MMOs along w other games. I have zero doubt that with proper support i could turn this into a GOAT. On Season 3, when i played PVE, the grind didn't bother me much either since i had plenty of quality tames. Island i owned was gorgeous, i fence-post-spammed 1/3 of MY island (for myself and a couple of neighbors) and let settlers do whatever they wanted on the other 2/3 of the island. Season 4 i tried PVE for ~week, and quickly got annoyed at the high pings and the low land to player ratios causing people to get all passive aggressive. Went to PVP which reignited my enthusiasm briefly but grind takes different proportions when a zerg can do a drive by on ya for ~9 hours a day, powerstones are camped and your a level 50 common player fighting against level 100s. Wah, lol. Found a semi safe spot to build, got somewhat set up then decided i needed major defensive upgrades... as i began that, POOF my enthusiasm vanished. Felt like chores and so i quit. Wrapping my ramblings up now. Still deciding how to move forward so I'm watching the forums and maybe I'll dip my toes back in at some point. Dunno. TC
  12. Im sure I'll get flamed but I'll ask anyway.. I wonder how much impact covid has had on the revamp effort?.. I've been lobbying for a complete overhaul for months now. Literally a complete restructuring of the entire model. I quit playing completely about 5 or 6 weeks ago because it honestly felt like i was just doing chores... Good luck and best wishes to all
  13. EECEE, A. To clarify, MY point was that policing an MMO COULD be full of quagmires from a logistical perspective. MY advice is to to minmize the need. B. I only read the forums so i am unaware of any info on other social media so i probably don't have the full picture. I'm old school and thats just the way it is. Besides this situation I've read other complaints regarding bans, rollbacks, nerfs, balancing issues, customer support and development criticism. A while ago i quoted another forum member who stated "how many times can you rearrange the furniture before you realize you need a new house?" I am still of the opinion that the game needs a complete overhaul. C. Regarding OP, i interpreted the thread as a request from OP for the devs to communicate to the banned players. The devs have openly admitted they're working with a small team. I AM NOT siding w OP or the devs. Having individual conversations w 100+ players is alot to ask imo. If OP was just playing straight, having fun, completely unaware of something nefarious afoot then bummer. Totally sucks. Lord knows i completely raged the fugg out when NA PVE was wiped. My sympathy goes out. If OP did something wrong then it should be handled accordingly and professionally. Best wishes
  14. The point was anonimity equals problems from a policing perspective. Also i have no doubt somebody with more technical expertise could clarify or correct the theories i mentioned. Ty for letting me know that a vpn is required on occasion.
  15. I don't consider this "politics" or a learning opportunity. I consider it a game breaking modeling flaw. Sidenote i am not affiliated with anyone in this post (that i am aware of) but had similar issues in the past.
  16. Ty for the clarification Peg Classy as usual EEECEEE
  17. I may be mistaken but i believe the problem the devs are struggling w is due vpn routed accounts. The account itself may be bannable but discovering the actual culprit is much trickier. I am not advocating for or against mass bannings. Furthermore i sincerely doubt that they're the only mmo struggling with it. Only solution i can think of is disallowing vpn routed players, if thats even possible. Also, once again, I'm not advocating for or against. Based on my limited knowledge even disallowing vpns has workarounds for a determined cheater. Doubt it does much to alleviate any frustrations but most possible solutions that come to mind lead to quagmires. If somebody w some actual technical expertise cares to weigh in I'd be curious for feedback just to know if i understand the predicament correctly. Sidenote, i believe i have a game model that reduces the impact, however I'm keeping that to myself, sorry Best wishes
  18. Just wanted to provide some context for the blatant mismanagement of this game.. We're TWO YEARS into EA for a PIRATE game and "walking the plank" hasn't been implemented. Need i say more? Quit over a month ago and its been a huge relief. Good luck, best wishes
  19. I had this bug a long time ago Symptoms were basically that i could "act" but not "interact" Examples I crossbowed animals in the head but did zero damage and got zero aggro from the mob I could bring up the interaction menu w a door but couldn't actually open it, demo it etc Filed a bug report and got confirmation it was a rare bug w my character in a "ghost-like" state Pretty sure Pattus & EE are correct that dying will resolve it Hope that helps
  20. If its in a hole in the ground or completely sorrounded by terrain then whacking the bear w a spyglass wont work. From what i can see it appears its head/ shoulders are glitched into the terrain. If so try to ride, dismount between the bear and the terrain, go to first person, equip a spyglass into your hand and whack the Bear a bunch w the spyglass. Hopefully this will dislodge it. GL
  21. Did you try, or have a team member try, whacking it w a spyglass?
  22. Hmm where to begin... When season 3 was wiped i had just built up a beautiful PvE island of my own, grinded out 100 days worth of upkeep, had a growing circle of friends and settlers that was expanding, was prepping to start boss fighting and lag was only an occasional problem in absurdly overbuilt areas.. I figured id be set when new content was introduced, mechanics were optimized, game officially launched and dlcs brought back the DROVES of disgruntled former players... Now... we have this... after raging a few weeks i figured id try pvp since its seasonal now.. Still no clue how long a season is Too many bugs to list Farmhouses full of stone and metal, unless you obssessively dump it to get the wood and thatch for a ship. That is their primary ingredient correct? Terrible NPC pathing and performance. I literally played games 15 years ago w more intuitive interactions. Theres 15 other problems that are dissolving your playerbase. I could EASILY FIX THEM. Ive offered atleast 3 times. Guess what tho, i got kids to feed, not working for free. Also your company would make a boatload of cash. Final thoughts regarding your PvP model, its garbage, even if it wasn't buggy. 90% of players have 1 of 2 negative experiences.. 1 Join a group and deal with little Hitlers and high school maturity politics or 2 Run solo or very small and get periodically gang raped No more free opinions. Goodbye
  23. Hmm, didn't know about that option. Just fiddled around on my other boat, even though respond to group whistles is off, the crew did indeed raise the sail.. Perhaps that would have gotten me unstuck. Still a contorted quagmire but thx for the pro tip
  24. Xbox. I couldnt physically access the steering wheel or sail
  25. Had to fast travel back to base for 5 minutes. Stored my gear. Came back within 10 minutes tops... Fur armors gone. Looked above boat under boat etc. Whatever devs suck etc... Spend my gaming time taming 3 cats for supplemental keratanoid. ~2 hours.. Start sailing home. Freeze to death and when i respawn my ship is gliched into a bugged SotD. Cant grab my steering wheel.. Ship keeps cockblocking access.. Waste 20 mins trying to work around the issue. Nothing works, cannot access the steering wheel or raise my sail... Fast travel to my other boat to ram it apart from the glitched SotD. Get there and what do ya know a fully functional Gally, Brig and Schooner arrive at the same time... Sink the sloop and feed the cats to the sharks and lay 5 volleys into my rescue vessel...~another hour or so wasted plus i need to craft some more fur and i still have a keratanoid shortage... Eat a steaming pile of donkey shit please. Buh bye
