  1. All long term games that require a lot of time will suffer number drops due to kids being at school, nothing special about this game in that regard or any game like this one.
  2. It is you that does not understand MMO. Massive Multiplayer Online means a game where there is a very large number of players online playing the same game together, i.e. 40k. In that massive number of players some players will tribe up and play together with friends, some will tribe up and play together with strangers, some will play in couples and some will play solo on a server with 40k other players. That is MMO. Single player is where you and only you play on a game. No other players. So when people talk about solo play in an MMO they mean not playing in a tribe or company or group with others, but they play on their own with other people on the server. So it is you that do not understand the difference between a Single Player game and playing solo on an MMO.
  3. Plenty of reasons. Why would you expect there to be 100k players? There are many players who are still holding off from getting the game to see how it develops, whether that's because they don't generally play EA games, or they experienced Ark in EA and has made them decide to hold off. The launch was very messy, we all know that, i'm sure that had some impact on numbers. Why would you think there would be 100k players just because people weren't working over the holidays? You think people sit at home all day playing games on their holidays?
  4. 26th was Boxing Day which was a bank holiday which for many would be the equivalent of a weekend, and the 27th was the day after which many people would have taken the Christmas week off, so really it's not the same as this week when many people would start returning to work on 2nd January. You can't really base figures on a period of extended holiday like Christmas and New Year.
  5. There are a couple of things that will make a claim "contested". The first is if someone in the company is currently on the land being claimed, whether they are online or offline and sleeping. The other is if random people are passing through the land you are trying to claim, this will pause it until they leave. If someone has logged off sleeping in a base on the land and don't log back on it will never be claimable unless they are killed whilst sleeping, which on PvE means very unlikely.
  6. The latest patch increased base resource gathering and taming to 2.0 so now double the original.
  7. It will break 45k as we head into the weekend though. Yesterday was Thursday, a working day, it is expected that numbers will be much lower during the week.
  8. That is all related to mod content, I doubt it will come to base game.
  9. Not possible for many people, so replacing is not a solution.
  10. I agree, i'm against a server wipe. I was one of those that didn't get the opportunity to find a big piece of land to settle on and I started Day 1, but I think a server wipe would do more harm than good. Maybe server wipes should be considered more at official launch. No. The servers are taken offline, time is not progressing, no-one is playing on then regardless of client version. Only EU PvE is currently up.
  11. You need to make a cooking pot. Check the skill tree to see if you've got Basics of Cooking unlocked. You need water, so grab a waterskin and fill it up. Farm some berries, any berries will do. For example, Acai. Stick some wood, berries and the water skin into the cooking pot, switch it on and then choose the colour dye you want to make. Repeat the steps for all the colours you need, it doesn't matter what berries you use as they all act the same.
  12. Lame? Is it not best to hold off putting the servers back up until they fix the issue, which is a pretty big issue for everyone? I think the fact they are doing this to resolve a major issue is the complete opposite of lame.
  13. Once every 10 days? What are you talking about?
  14. It would still be useful for just one claim.
  15. I agree. You only need to take your eye off the screen for 10 seconds and you may miss a notification of a claim being contested. I think the company window definitely could do with more of this type of data included in it.
  16. Does replacing flags not cause some issues though? I mean what if you have other claims around you where they are overlapping, if you then destroy your flag to replace it may you not come across issues trying to place down a new flag? I'm sure in some cases it would cause huge problems if you can't place it down again.
  17. Well he could just kill himself and respawn which is even quicker. However, if he has gear on him then neither methods would be useful as he would lose them when fast travelling.
  18. Although I agree the sinking ships technique should be looked at because it's a poor mechanic, what you should have done right from the start is tell your buddies when they first start the game to pick your home region freeport, you then kill yourself and spawn at the freeport, meet up with them, invite them to your company, then all of you kill yourselves and spawn back at your beds on your ship or base. Much easier and quicker.
  19. When I spent days in Lawless M10 (I think) I never saw it rain once. My barrel filled up, but whenever I was online I never saw it rain and I was online a lot. Once I set sail and found an island to settle on i've experienced rain a lot, whether i'm at sea or in my base.
  20. Sleeping in the area is working, however, there are either cases of people using an unknown exploit, or there's a glitch where sometimes sleeping may not work. I know for a fact it works because an island next to me has 1 small hut on with 3 flags that cover the hut, and none of the flags can be claimed and this has been a week now with no signs of activity from the owner. If sleeping didn't work at all then that land would have been claimed a week ago. So yeah it does work, but obviously there's some sort of issue with claims that is either a glitch or an exploit.
  21. Yeah I got someone near me with a small thatch hut that he is sleeping inside. He hasn't been online for the past week. He has 3 claim flags that all overlap the thatch hut. I've seen many people try to claim the area with no success. I'm sure there are exploits, but it strikes me as odd when people claim territory can be stolen even while you sleep on the land when someone near me can't be contested at all by anyone in the area.
  22. Well you've given no indication what the island looks like that you are trying to claim, no idea if it has tall rocks like that or anything, or how big the island is. Not even a screenshot or anything.
  23. Try reading the last 2 sentences again. @Talono Does the island have a tall rock like this? I climbed all the way up there myself and I believe that claim areas only cover areas horizontally to a degree but vertically all the way up. Maybe there is something like that?
  24. Well you say weeks of its release, it's actually only been 11 days, so not even 2 weeks. The majority of negative reviews were based on the poor release and server performance. Sadly there will be a large portion of those that will never bother changing their review because they either quit on day one never to return or just because they wont be bothered to go back to change it. It's still a very popular game and many are still watching streamers on Twitch and Youtube because there are still a lot waiting to see how it develops before buying it. i feel the future is definitely bright for Atlas. Even over 11 days, much of which was holiday season, they have improved much in the way of server performance and stability. There's definitely good days ahead, and I think it will stay top 10 on Twitch for a while yet.
