The Changes To Stone Are Good For PVP

Stone structures needed to be easier to break into. I can agree with that. Stone structures were a bit on the cheap side for how effective they were. Can agree with that.

However a crafting cost increase *and* an effectiveness nerf is far too much to do in one patch. It now takes easily triple the effort to craft an item that is almost 33% as effective meaning that the effective net nerf was so incredibly high that defense, something that was already struggling to keep ahead of the offensive portion of the game, even harder.

Not to mention that stone structures are now essentially impossible to build for a large section of the population.

I agree the material cost and balance between wood and stone now needs to be looked at. It's obviously a bit off but the actual change itself making stone cost more and less durable is a good change.

Says the player who thinks static structures increase server ping... Making the change to stone is lazy design. They should have added another tier of defense. Now we are going to see 15x wood and thatch honeycomb buffers around stone.

Also this fucks PvE players, not that I am one, but sap islands can just be walled off and no way to take down those walls on PvE if the players who own it are active.

I mean you could take a bear to freeports, but then you have to establish a production line using ramshackle sloops and it becomes tedious

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Sap is easy as fuck to get in huge quantities at the free port with minimal work. I even laid out how to do it in my other post.  A production line isn't anymore more than some cheap ass ramshackle sloops and a ton of pestles and go.  PVE is especially just fine because the biggest risk while traveling the world is other players, not the weak ass ghost ships that you have to basically smootch to agro, and storms are easily mitigated with some repair materials.  PVE people have nothing BUT time to play at the rate they want.  No competition risk really.  Freeport shit also respawns insanely fast.

People are making much ado about nothing.

ha haha. Yeah, so good for the game. Before this change, I'd built 10 or so 2x2 stonewall bases with a bed in the middle of each of them on a lawless, and one of the local groups decided they didn't want me there, and blew up all 10 of them in about 30 min. Now with the changes, they can do it in 12 minutes lmao.

Stonewalls were already weak as paper and cannonballs are cheap. With this new "fix" It's officially cheaper to blow a base up, than it is to create that base. I'm sure this will do great things for breeding animals, when the only thing that protects them from being butchered by bored raiders is a flimsy piece of paper. Great longevity to the game, keep it up.

I'm wondering if everyone is expecting the game to involve being dug in and never moving ever?

I'm for this change. Helps raid less active groups whether they're larger or smaller.

I'm for this change. Helps my mega-clan raid every smaller company who has little access to metal and few farmers

There, fixed the shit spewing from your face-anus.

They have to introduce raidtimers like you got them in eve online so you cant get offlined/rekt when only 1 is online

There arent really raid timers in EVE... there are structure timers, but you as an attacker can swing those more into your favor.  I know having been part of the Ursha'khan for years now and having taken part in several structure attacks and defense.  For the most part as a defender you can have it more in your favor but you dont have AI to man guns on your station.. someone HAS to take charge of it, and have the skills to use it.

Unlike here where you can hire a bunch of NPC crewmen and stick them in armor and put them in little pillboxes all around your base and have them protect your stuff 24/7.

Its not though. It was a good idea to look at it, and take action towards it, but they took a nuke to what should have been done with a hammer and/or a bat.

Except they are easy to defeat, they provide zero offline protection as it is.

This change is really good for PVP, or more clearly, for the attackers in PVP.

If you build some of these now paper stone walls or not doesnot make any difference.

I mean on the 24% of the islands where you can build them due to availabe Sap. The other 76% can have some fun with alpha cobras chewing their wooden homes.

It is just making offline raiding more easy and removes the last protection, which was the lazyness of the offline raiding PVP heroes.

Well the other option is these massive square, ship garages that are popping up everywhere.  Because that is not an eyesore.

I see there is a lot of bickering and complaining about the recent changes to the stone tier with regards to costs and damage taken and there a lot of folks extremely angry at the devs for the changes. I am here to say that I think these are good changes that were needed for PVP and which would have had to been done at some point in the future anyhow in order to properly balance the game.

Stone structures were ridiculously easy to build and spam and for a high end tier they sure didn't feel like it in costs and effort required to manufacture. As a result of this it was very easy to create giant monolithic stone bases in a very short order that effectively made raiding both pointless and a giant waste of time and materials. It was far better to just sink all the enemies ships and then move onto the next target/port rather then spend several hours digging through honeycombed bases only to discover that everything inside had been dropped.

While I think the changes are for the better and will open the game up to more PVP I do think the cost of stone vs wood structures and their related durability needs to be looked at. It does seem like wood is now too cost effective vs stone. I would also recommend that there be a structure wipe for the sake of balance because those that already have huge stone bases will profit immensely from this patch vs those that do not.

Sounds to me like you're not interested in player vs player at all.  You're interested in raiding which is player vs player created environment.

So I assume you'd run if you attempted a raid and they actually shot back.

Yea, you're right. For your happiness it's best that it's as easy as possible.
