  1. If these are qualifications of some sort then step aside lad I was born in 1958. In 1962 "Space War" was written at MIT on a DEC PDP-1, and implemented on an experimental Vector based CRT. In 1972 (Freshman H.S. year) a buddy got the first home video game, a Magnavox Odyssey... Pong with several other similar Sports games like Hockey, Football and Basketball... All implemented using the same software and mylar court overlays that you taped to the TV We played the heck out of that system, until the mylar overlays were long gone. (3 years of High School electronics and about 8 years of professional computer hardware assembly/repair experience passes. In the late 70s Atari releases the Arcade version of "Space Wars". I become addicted and start spending a minimum of $50/week in Arcades) I spent 6 months as part of a team (4 of us) writing a Pac-Man like game on the Apple II. My role was primarily code clean-up and optimization... On the 6502 branching was considerably less efficient if the branch did not occur in the same 256 byte page) Skip ahead to 1991, bypassing experience as a Hardware Engineer/Network Support Admin. While working as a Network/LAN Admin I started part-time beta testing software for, among other companies, Microsoft. (This was a good way to avoid paying for new versions of OS and Apps ) I start testing game pre-releases. Moral of the story... My back is much grayer than yours. (Ape reference)
  2. I see tons of good questions above and look forward to seeing the discussion. I understand it's being a busy week for you, but if you have any information regarding the BattlEye situation, specifically it's apparent incompatibility with Windows Insider builds? I ask as someone who is habitually addicted to testing pre-release software (the last version of Windows I bought was win98) . Also. as an Insider I know that Microsoft is discontinuing all support for Windows 7 in 2020, except for Corporate licenses (1,000 plus installations) who will pay additional fees for the support. Another thing about the Insider Builds... Anything that survives us Insiders WILL be in the next public releases of Widows 10, usually in April and October. Thus there's potential for BIG failures in 3 months.
  3. There are video series of Monty Roberts doing exactly that... Going to the US Southwest, Roping a Mustang who maybe had never seen humans before, and getting exactly the same results. Do the research before condemning the post, I just picked a short 10-15 video to make the point.
  4. Go to YouTube and watch Monty Roberts' videos like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glZWiw5liZA
  5. I agree... Perhaps Atlas had to partner with another company that has some kind of license they needed legal access to, for example.
  6. My System: Ryzen 5 1600 @3.5Mhz 16BG DDR4-3000 ram GTX 1060-6GBram My only issue is that, as a semi-pro tester I run Windows Insider builds and apparently BattlEye don't like that . Before this past weekend I was running perfectly fine with all the settings set to highest. I would check to see if you have the latest video drivers as first fix, and maybe check your mainboard drivers as well.
  7. Not to mention that having separate studios is about the easiest way to separate all of the essential bookkeeping? If this were all controlled by the same set of books and one of the games started losing cash you'd have to run an audit to find out which was the bad performer. This way it's automatic.
  8. Have you ever written a game, let alone anything more complex than "Hello World!"? Do you even realize that most games are merely Front-ends of extensive databases? The days of editing text files to have an effect on something like spawn rates are long gone. Change a value in one mob class may result in tremendous negative changes in other mob classes. You can't just stomp around in data-fields with hobnail boots.
  9. Actually, BattlEye posted that a glitch this past weekend caused several PUBG players to be banned "accidently" [Edit] This post was 7 months ago, but it still shows that nothing is perfect...
  10. I would add that there should be a maximum weight based on a multiplier of the Carry Capacity. As soon as a player exceeds their carry weight limit they start taking Stamina damage in a ratio of the amount over the carry capacity... the more overloaded you are, the more damage per tick is inflicted. This continues until the player 1) Divests themselves of all excess weight 2) Die. This happens automatically when the Max. multiplier is reached, due to Crushing.
  11. The problem with this is that right now there is no difference between PvP and PvE. You can still lose your Claim/Ship/Inventory to cowards who really should be playing PvP and broken game mechanics, which I'm sure will be fixed eventually... I know what "Early Access" entails
  12. One other point I'd like to make... The GM and Forum Moderators are not the Developers! At best they are the interface between us and the Devs. Getting mad at the Devs and taking it out on the forum staff is not the way to deal with game problems. As with reporting alleged "hackers" and "griefers", Screen shots and/or clips with time and date stamps are the best evidence to prove there is a problem. Even then Devs probably have to find time to work on bugs between scheduled tasks, unless there is a dedicated department for bugs... It does happen in rare cases.
  13. I've been involved in beta tests that had monthly server wipes to get rid of all the old stuff that has been changed. Some had server wipes before rolling out an update. It seems to me that periodically starting with a clean slate will get more players commenting on new systems that they were too established to have to go through, and it's the best way to get rid of older OP and/or stupidly easy-to-get items. In this case perhaps the "Zergers" would get tired of being regularly wiped and eventually stop showing up, freeing vast tracts of land for the peons (90% of us) to get a chance to experience having a claim.
  14. Four hours is about the longest I've seen a ship survive Freeport, at least in these forums.
  15. If you kill yourself you can always create a new character (as mentioned above) and start fresh at any Freeport. Creating a new character prompts you that the old one will be deleted. Come to think of it killing yourself may be the perfect way to thumb your nose at your captors, since they won't be able to profit from you. This is from the point of view of a player who has yet to find a way to get past Lvl 8 so far, so I wouldn't lose anything of value
  16. This game is Early Access... Not everything is actually coded yet. EA is scheduled to last another 2 years and things will most likely be changed quite a bit in that time. After EA they may release to public, or they may have more testing scheduled. Early Access IS NOT a good purchase for anyone expecting a complete polished experience.
  17. I know of a few ways ships sink from reading the forums. One is being attacked by animals, Another is by Attack from another company, using hacks or not. Docking at a Freeport overnight seems to be a popular one, about 4 hours to sink. The latest is apparently from the waterspout storms coming closer to shore... This one apparently appeared last week. Drat, Ninja'd again
  18. For myself I thank you for the effort. I have beta tested software since the 1980s, including a majority of Microsoft's products... That's why I'm in the Insider Program after it replaced the previous "Official" beta program. It's also one of the reasons I don't mind registering for Early Access programs
  19. So do we complain to Steam that you don't/can't/won't support our systems or are implementing 3rd party crap that doesn't so we can get our money back? P.S. Windows 7 is dead (Microsoft won't support it) as of next year, unless you have a Corporate client license.
  20. You are correct... Right now there's no use for gold, but most of the game hasn't been implemented yet. I won't really consider this an MMO until I can buy food and other consumables, either from other players or NPCs. Same with Produced goods, such as weapons, armor and ships.
  21. I still had my bed in my inventory. It wouldn't have been a big deal respawning on the dock, I suppose...
  22. I just listen to the streamer, who actually mostly plays Minecraft . Sometimes they try other games and that is how I discovered Atlas, from his stream of his first character. I start the reinstallation from Steam while I read these forums in case REAL fix is posted, then go on to read any email and check my daily dose of on-line strip comics. I stopped watching Atlas streams after the first couple turned out to not be intended for someone wanting to learn about the game
  23. I didn't have any experience with anything other that a raft at that point but I can see how pressing 'E' would reposition me at the wheel. Thanks for the tip!
  24. ^This. I'd rather be notified when this whole BattlEye fiasco is figured out. I keep attempting to reinstall Atlas every day (2 and counting) and applying the guesses that are suggested in the Bug thread before uninstalling and deleting everything for a fresh attempt in the morning (I will try anything short of an OS reload. My other software works just fine, thank you). I do have to say that Listening to my favorite streamer and reinstalling Atlas whjile sipping my morning coffee isn't the worst way to waste time.
  25. Another issue is that apparently not too many people know that Freeports are a "No Parking" zone. The longest I've heard of a ship surviving a Freeport docking is about 4 hours. I may be wrong but that's the impression I get. There have been many means reported for ships to disappear overnight, from animal manifestations to Storm damage to player attacks. You were lucky. I built my first Sloop. jumped on board and immediately fell into the cargo hatch. I gave up trying to get out after about an hour... I had no inventory to build anything useful. I ended scuttling my brand new Sloop right there in the Harbor.
