  1. LOL, they took a galleon to a freeport? Woops. Good call seeing that.
  2. That would work with one big exception. FPS horror game developers, going all the way back to the original Castle Wolfenstein, realized early on that players don't enjoy having their characters slaughtered repeatedly as it isn't fun. Grapeshot has chosen to ignore this axiom of game development and the complaints on the forums and the negative reviews reflect that choice.
  3. It is a challenge though. The challenge is in convincing yourself that this game will get fixed.
  4. Well, that would be a pretty accurate analogy then.
  5. I'd love an answer on this too. But don't hold your breath on getting a real answer.
  6. Like one response said, build a fence. My first claim was gator infested. I soon discovered that since they were too large to fit in doors that they were too large to fit through the fence structures as well. I died lots of times doing it but I eventually got a fence all the way around the house. That gave me some moments of sanity where I could actually walk around outside without getting attacked. One other trick I used once the fence was built was to lure an alpha elephant toward the house, break down enough fence so it could get in and then rebuild it. It was wonderful. For two days, before it despawned in a crash, all I heard was dying crocs and one pissed off pachyderm. Hint: Wolves can't fit through doorways either.
  7. And they're making it even easier. Prior to 10 I was thinking I'd have to make several trips to get the resources I need to tame the animals on my island. Now? Berries is all I need. Seems to work for most anything except the wolves and I just kill a few of them to get the bones I need to tame them with. As for comparisons to EVE: In EVE, I was a huge trader dealing mostly in buying mission drops cheaply and then recycling them into minerals. In Atlas, tossing shit on the ground and hoping the other guy you're dealing with does the same is not an economy. In EVE, I could always get in a mining barge, run out to belt in high sec and make a few coins if I needed and easily deal with the rats that spawned. In Atlas, I can't even leave my house to chop down a tree because of the 5 wolves and 3 alpha vultures circling overhead. I still have not fully explored the island where my claim is. In EVE, I could always hop in a freighter and, with relative safety, run to a trading hub and make a few coins selling my excess on the market. In Atlas, my sloop hasn't lifted anchor in days because of the constant threat of SotD. Seeing a video of a galleon chewed to bits by a green SotD with bugged guns convinced me this has been a good decision. In EVE there is hundreds and hundreds of zones to explore that easily supported a population of 50,000+. You could even find zones that no one had been in in days. In Atlas, you open your back door to take a piss and you're likely pissing on someone else's house. I played EVE for around 13 years before I finally got bored of it and was happy to pay them the monthly fees till I did. Even then I knew there was so much that I had no knowledge of. In Atlas, I feel like I've already discovered most of what it has to offer and I've barely left my island. EVE? Atlas? No. There is no comparison. Can I hope there will be? Oh yes. Oh yes.
  8. I hope I got this right. Now that lawless islands are getting their first taste of alphas, I'm curious as to what everyone's opinion is of whether there are too many, not enough or just the right amount of predators/alphas based on the regions they play in. Gaming companies like Wildcard base many of their decisions on statistics. I'm hoping the results of this poll will be large enough to have an influence on their decision making process. PLEASE take a moment and take the poll. Thanks.
  9. At this moment, I have 3 alpha vultures trying to eat their way into my house. They've already destroyed all my tames. What part of this is supposed to be fun?
  10. It's arrogant sots exactly like you who think they know what's best for everyone that makes me cringe every single time someone suggests I 'clan up'. YOU are exactly why I play solo.
  11. @Jatheish Thank you. It's finally nice to know there's an actual human on the other side. US President FDR used to have what he called 'fireside chats.' They were hugely popular because people felt as if he had just walked into their homes, sat down and explained things. IMHO, for now, this type of monologue is going to win you a lot more respect and patience than a propaganda filled 'Captain's Log.' Well done.
  12. No no... they wouldn't have coded in all those things if they didn't want it that way. Right? That's what you've been saying so far. Apparently, in your opinion, they don't make mistakes.
  13. Well, with that theory then everything in this game is running just perfect and there should be absolutely no need for patches because they surely wouldn't have coded in anything they didn't want to add... right?
  14. Being able to solo carry 50,000 metal and solo sinking a galleon is an intended mechanic? Wow, I didn't know that. I'll run out to my harbor right now and just stuff my sloop in my back pocket then. Problem solved.
  15. God, I so do love well worded sarcasm. Bravo!
  16. Then you have your answer as to what happened. Even on your claim unanchored, they take much more damage.
  17. 2 days ago a couple of guys parked their schooner in my claimed harbor and logged out. Yesterday afternoon I found that schooner in the bottom of my harbor with their dingy floating around. Meanwhile, my anchored sloop and the anchored raft from a previous claimer barely took any damage. Ships in freeports and unanchored ships on someone else's claim take large amounts of damage and will sink. Which, btw, is a great way to give the claim owner something exciting to do. If it weren't for massive numbers of sharks I might even consider investing in a diving rigged sloop.
  18. With all of the negative posts and complaints (including mine) I just wanted to take a moment and say, 'thank you' to the dev's. THIS is a much needed fix. It's not nearly enough but it's a good start: - Wild land creatures will no longer target crew, tames, or characters on ships unless they have been aggro'd
  19. Shear a sheep and you get... hides. Whut? Fleece != fiber? Did my shears dig in just a bit too deep? I thot I was going to get wool, not skin it!
  20. I have had to restart 3 times now on rafts and I can safely say this: There is land to be claimed. If you're looking for the perfect island, you won't find that and probably wouldn't want it because of lag and overcrowding. If you're willing to tolerate the cold or deal with gobs of aggros then yes, there are claims to be taken. You simply have to be willing to work for it. My secret? I found a guy with public crafting tables, gobs of fiber and sap. He did charge tax on it but, it allowed me to craft furs and stock my raft for a voyage into the frozen north. Now, I'm settled in and living like a Viking. It's freezing cold and to save on paste, I wear hides and stay indoors at night. When it rains, I freeze if I'm outside. Every week I'll have to make a run down south back to that guy's 'inn' for fiber (but with the last big patch, I now have some fiber on the island). I pay 30% on what I collect but in just an hour or two I'm able to get more than a week's supply with just a sickle. I have wolves out the ass, vultures that peck me to death and the occasional rampaging alpha horse that whacks me dead for no reason. But you know what? I'm enjoying it. There are bears, wolves, lions, sheep and even elephants to tame. I have mountains on both sides of me and a lush valley I can call my own and damned few neighbours, just the way I like it. Quit looking for a paradise with umbrellas in your mai-tai. Respec hard into fortitude and move to the tundra. You'll find many spots where those who thot they had what it takes found out they really didn't and left.
  21. So in other words, their only point of reference is to watch bitching, unorganized streamers who run around naked crying, 'I can't win, I can't win.' Then, nerf the piss out of what the streamer was bitching about while ignoring the forums. Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
  22. Yet another 'undocumented' patch I see. - The time required to steal an enemy claim now decreases the more Claims that enemy team has. And apparently increases the fewer they have.
  23. I left my house an ran to a hill behind it. Took about 2 minutes and I was killed by a lion on the hill. My EQ despawns in 20 minutes. I was not able to make it back to get that gear and it wasn't from lack of trying. Earlier today I had 4 wolves in my taming trap and 5 more trying to eat their way through my house. A schooner wrecked overnight in my lagoon. I died no less than 30 times trying to salvage it and my house is right on the beach. Between the wolves and the sharks what should have been a 15 minute job became 2 hours of me screaming, "BULLSHIT" into my monitor. Is this seriously how they think this game should be played? Someone please explain to me the fucked up logic of the dev's that has so far produced a 'nay' when asked to nerf aggros.
