  1. I doubt they will release before the wipe. That is just my opinion, nothing solid from grapeshot. I am only assuming this because if they released the islands before the wipe then people will knw bout them and where they are and what resources are on them and where they are located, thus allowing anyone with the devkit to "game" the official servers. It is a good question though and would be nice to know.
  2. This is good information to have, I got my server 2 days ago, I am setting up now. I did not get it to host an unofficial, I basically got it to be a sandbox for mods. So I am planning on running mine fairly light weight, I will not have more than 3-5 players on at once testing. That said, I have been looking into how much cpu/ram is required on different setups. I have been scouring the interweb for information, found a lot in cp64 streams. I want to scale down my map so it runs lighter thus allowing me to host more grids (I am looking into more ship and ocean based gameplay, so I am looking to host a few tiles of just ocean). When I get setup I will add my info here.
  3. Somewhat similar experience, I have two friends I convinced to get the game and join my company recently. They love the concept and the game so far. This is their first computer game, they are super experienced with consoles but neither one has ever owned a computer capable of playing games until I made them some. I was upfront and honest about the state of the game, the changes etc. They are running around official learning the game and having a blast. Much like your group I figured this is a good time to learn while we wait for the wipe. Their largest concern by FAR was the offlining. They basically said if that didn't change they would not play. I explained the changes coming and they were satisfied and happy. The point here is SAME concerns, my group doesn't mind getting killed etc etc. They like pvp. But the PvWall stuff they literally had no time or patience for. One has a 5 year old son he is raising by himself, he wants to have fun in a game. Not live in it. So I agree, and have had a very similar experience literally just this week. Totally a step in the right direction.
  4. "This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development." What do you mean they never said that? That quote is from the very top of the steam page. It was there when I bought the game. "This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development." That seems clear to me. I understand you are upset, but to claim they never warned you is nonsense. It also says right at the top it is an EA game, with a planned 2 year out dev cycle. Despite what people think this is not even a beta, this game is more like a late alpha. And yet most of the people seem to think it is done already. It is not.
  5. Same for us. We controlled one of the main islands and had an island alliance with the 4 other small companies with about another 8 people. Megas never messed with us.
  6. OK I see what you meant by short day timer now. Sorry I didn't get that. My company and I do not see lawless as any type of viable destination anymore. I do not think the devs "want" or plan on the player base using lawless as a stepping stone anymore. I think that was the original design and intention. Sure you can do it like that but now you will be able to build anywhere and spawn anywhere in the grid. So other than freeport for mats, maybe a ramshackle, or the protection from others, there is little the freeport has over spawning in the grid. We will probably not even start on the freeport this time around. I suppose a small company and or a solo player might take weeks, though I do not see how. If I was by myself it would not take me weeks to find somewhere. I also wouldn't be looking for a full island either. We do not have any details so don't know for sure, but I'd bet a solo either can not or would have a hard time claiming even a small island solo. I wouldn't even try personally, I'd just find a nice island with a good community. But I'm with over a dozen people, we will find a small place somewhere. And it will not take us weeks. LOL, yes I get the idea...
  7. It was not always like that. I lived in lawless until the wipe announcement. If you logged in within 4 days nothing decayed. Mobs did not eat that much (not where we were anyway). No idea where your getting some short day timer. The decay timer was for 4 days and reset every time you logged in. Now it seems as if it will always decay even if you log in but you can manually repair your base. Like your ship in a freeport. Unless your base is super small that will be a pain to say the least.
  8. Have you followed the discussions on the lawless changes? From the captains logs it looks like you will not be able to settle in lawless like you used to be able to. Noone of course knows for sure, but based off the captain logs they have changed the decay in lawless. Now if you want to keep things there it seems like you must individually repair structures. Good luck repairing even a small base.
  9. They have not clarified the system yet. No one knows yet, we would all like to know. That way we could all plan. I do not think they will make it viable for a solo to take a whole island, but who knows? Since we do not know how it is done, what it requires, or what it will actually cost no one actually knows anything yet.
  10. I do not think it will be like you think it will be. They are adding a TON more land and more importantly the offline window. My company did not move to lawless because we were wiped, we moved because we were offlined. We were not even there. If there were windows as in the coming system it never would have happened the way it did. We could have defended our claims. Instead we were PvWalled. We had already rebuilt 3 times. We could have defended if the new raid windows were in place, and we had half the people then, we doubled in size after we moved. I did not belittle any stand. I do not think lawless was ever intended to be used the way it is used. It is and was used that way because of the terrible land claim system. It is and was used to avoid the mess that system introduced and encouraged. As far as someone coming to "take" our claim, they are welcome to. I encourage it, they will need to have a war token and then we can actually FIGHT. I play on a pvp server to you know... fight. And our allies and settlers (slaves to you somehow)will join us in defense. That's how the game SHOULD be. Not logging in the next day to find all your stuff offlined because you have a life. I do hope you can play and have fun under the new system and hopefully you will keep playing.
  11. My Company and I were living in lawless right up until the wipe announcement. We are a company of 14. After reading all the captains logs, we decided we will not be able to come back to lawless. From those posts we understood anything more than a tiny hut will be untenable. I personally saw from when I started playing that it looked like lawless was always supposed to be just another stepping stone down the path to the development of your character. Never meant to be lived in permanently. It looks like the devs have decided to enforce that and perhaps shift the roles of lawless a bit. More of a resource gathering point now. The lawless zones as character development path is obviously no longer needed (the ability to spawn and build anywhere negates this). Most companies were in lawless because they didn't have to deal with the flag system (or couldn't). We ended up there when the mega who dominated our tile decided to poke a stick in the eye of another mega, our lands got razed in part of that blowback. I see where you are coming from but it is not as big of a deal as you make it out to be in my opinion. I also do not think anyone (except perhaps you) will be leaving the game in large numbers because of this change. I think you are self projecting a bit here because you want it to be that way. I also think the new system might be better than you think. Since lawless can no longer be used as a base tile, my company and I will be getting a small island. We have zero plans to troll anyone who decides to settle there. We got along great and had a nice island alliance in lawless, we were by far the largest group on the island everyone else were solos and tiny companies of 2-4. I see our new island being similar, us as the larger group and hopefully a few small companies who wish to join us. I am sorry your preferred place will no longer be viable, my company is/was in the same boat. But I don't think the sky is falling and we will just adapt.
  12. I have never lost a shoulder pet while it was on my shoulder, but lost 2 monkeys, npc, and at least 3 or 4 bears off my ship. I am replying because of your "invisible" comment. When I lost the bears, it was when loading them on my ship. Two just disappeared, couldn't find them anywhere, whistling did not help. They were just gone. Hanging out with Elvis and the rest of the lost tames in this game I am assuming. The third time it happened though the sun was low in the horizon and when I looked at where the bear should be I saw the shadow of my bear on the deck. No bear, just his shadow. I ran around it through it etc trying to make something happen. Nothing. So I whistled the bear as a last resort and he magically reappeared on my deck. Just found it interesting the "invisibility" issue was there for both occasions, yours and mine. Oh I did try logging in and out for the first two bears, nothing.
