Incentivize proper building by limiting gates

Recommended Posts

There's already a few threads dealing with the issues of gates being too large, and requiring additional sizes. I think it would benefit the game on the whole to somehow prevent that weird meta that's been around since Ark, of just building base walls with nothing but gates all around. Increasing the price of gates, or perhaps putting a cap on them per claim, or simply having a "too close to similar structure" area of denial around each may help alleviate this issue, and push people to actually make walls out of other building blocks.

Or how about just add large walls?

Instead of taking stuff away, add something more useful and people would use it instead.

Oh, well if they're up for it, they could definitely model some sort of premade fortification chunks for larger works, sure!

People will always go the path of least resistance, they build the gates because it is easier than building that many walls, it also has less of an effect on pop in times etc.
Adding behemoth walls, and floors etc would solve the problem far more elegantly than just "you can't".

They would need to do both.  Limit he number of games in the a give area the same way they limit turrets in Ark.  Because if you don't limit it, no matter what other option people are given, they'll keep on doing things "the way they've always done it since Ark".

Agreed, implementing the combination of all these changes might just be enough if done right. I could see some palisade, and then stone wall blocks made specifically for that.

Do a test using graphics as the motivation for the devs. They are always looking to add performance. Make a small gate, next to that a short distance away make a wall out of wood, thatch, and stone. (7x3?) look at each and note the graphics increase or decrease. That would be a constructive way to motivate the devs for another reason to update certain aspects of the game. Because it would help with the development. I don't have a real table saw that could make the crazy dimensions that the gates are too.

I would say a 4x4 wall that snaps in place like fence foundations, that you have an option for a half-wall, that you can snap floors to each end and that has snap points for ceilings along the top.
