  1. I looked out at my barren island. Killed some stuff, hacked it with my hatchet, killed some more stuff... got bored cause there is nothing else to gather and logged off.
  2. I was trying to think of a good solution as I don't know if there is a perfect one. My thought is to put an exclusion zone around rarer resources where you cannot build on top of or within a few tiles of them to keep people from griefing. Then for foundations drop the range down to the tile itself or at most 1-2 squares for all the common resources trees, fiber, stone. There is really no reason to not let vegetation grow right up alongside buildings. Inside I can understand and losing a few trees or stone spawns isn't necessarily a big deal although this could still become a griefing issue depending on the island and quantity of resources so possibly don't allow placing foundations on stone or tree spawns even after it is harvested. This will force you to build your base on the shoreline, lakes, lagoons, in the water, or in the areas that are just brush. Not sure what other solution would work and keep people from being dicks, let people build and expand and use the entire island not just the outskirts and still keep stuff from growing inside your structures.
  3. I mean for all we know the respec button being broke isn't intentional. They didn't mention it in the patch notes. I also lost 3 levels with the patch so maybe I won't get a respec until I pass the level I was previously at? Who knows except the devs. I wasn't able to do much on my island today but stare at the vast nothingness. On the upside it is raining once an hour now and we are now able to farm. Also saw alphas which I never saw before on my island so got a bit of xp off that. The cost of large walls while I agree with the stone/wood/thatch etc going up the alloy cost makes no sense. They really need to add a large stone wall so you can have a large stone wall with a single door around your base and the cost of alloy in the door frames and door is ok the frames have hinges which I can see taking a few and the doors take a few for the reinforcement strips that are obviously there but 200 alloy /600 metal in total? That has zero balance sense unless the goal is just to make people never use them. People can climb the walls so the walls aren't an issue in my opinion, increasing the resources a bit is good and a large stone wall please and be reasonable on alloy cost. The foundation stopping spawns is going to be an issue for multiple reasons. 1) People can be dicks and block nodes in all the areas claim flags don't exist (lawless). Are you supposed to live in the ocean and build your base in the ocean? 2) I can pickup my foundations to bring resources but people will encroach now I have no land and no resouces. They could fix this by making no build zones... but then this kind of ruins the idea of picking a spot and building. I don't know the perfect solution. I didn't like stuff growing inside my house but I don't mind it growing just outside I found a spot that had no rocks trees inside the house just low brush and was hoping it might stop that from spawning under the house. I think metal nodes, behives, these kinds of noes should have a exclusion zone around them. Rocks, trees, brush, common nodes should grow anywhere adjacent to a foundation. Something needs to be done for this for the long term health of the game.
  4. Yea exactly this. They should make resources not spawn directly under the foundation. I actually like the idea of building my base inside of a bunch of trees and having them grow back to make it not visible all the time. Then they made large doors cost a stupid amount of resources. For the stone part I understand it it's a big ass door and to build a wall with stone panels would take a ton. But the alloy cost? Doesn't even make sense 600 metal for a single door which has no "wall" equivalent to match. They honestly need a large stone wall so we don't have to use the doors. And people who complain about bases being surrounded by them.. Climbing picks. Bear cannon carts.
  5. Guess I know what I am doing when I get on later.
  6. I will still be trading. The sector I am in lacks a couple resources and has some other resources which those I trade with don't. Also if I am going to tame something I am going to use the preferred food. Mind you once you trade someone some seeds they don't need you anymore after they establish a farm so that really isn't a big deal long term it's not going to matter anyways. Farmed food is more effective and quicker from what we can tell and then using random foods like you could do in ark will be even slower and less effective. I don't know about you but I don't want to spend an entire afternoon taming a single creature with with much crappier end result because I used the poor/lazy mans option.
  7. Move to lawless region. No claim flags (except to steal a boat which is in non lawless anyways), can't lose your base to this. The downside is you cannot have beds which you can spawn to on land. But you can build a boathouse and stick a spawn boat with a bunch of beds on it just off the coast. The demolish timer is 4 days so you still have to login regularly though. May have issues finding land at this point but you might be able to ask someone for some. Currently people on the lawless island I am on surround their base with foundations to maintain a buffer zone.
  8. I totally agree, at my outpost they have some up around the building they are quite annoying at night due to just how intensely bright they are.
  9. So I have been spending most of my time gathering and crafting for my company. I am getting levels but I hear people talking about doing maps or killing alphas and getting a level or two from each one and surging through the levels. I am really not much for combat I prefer doing the support role but feel I am being punished for not doing the meta of maps and alphas to quickly level. Why doesn't crafting give XP and why does gathering give so little for so much effort? I don't necessarily think maps and alphas need to be drastically nerfed, maybe a bit but I also feel like I am doing a lot more effort for not as much reward.
  10. Yea I thought the patch happened already, they must have delayed it, It was about to go live when I got off a bit ago due to the 20 second lag spikes.
  11. Is it still happening? The patch notes from the latest patch which wasn't that long ago said they fixed an exploit with the mortar rapid firing. Or is this from earlier today?
  12. I believe the decay rate is generally higher in unclaimed areas, may just be on buildings though. I am in a lawless region on the map and everything I look at says the decay timer is increased. Although it's still 4 days for buildings. Does the decay rate in freeports bypass anchoring the ship? On the large amount of ships we have in or company the ships in our harbors are all anchored and they don't start decaying until you lift the anchor and they slowly decay as we sail them. I can see the reasoning for this being they don't want the docks in the freeports to get overloaded with lots of rafts if people build them and don't leave. But our company has some rafts at a few freeport islands for days to quick travel and invite people, guess it's possible people are travelling to maintain them. Might have to test it out with a sloop since they are cheap to build.
  13. I know ships slowly degrade when not anchored. After sailing for a while it will naturally drop down a couple hundred durability and you need to repair. Also have seen ships almost instantly break from being driven into excessively shallow water. Sometimes they really bug out and roll around and spin. One other thing I saw on a pve post was people can drag a bunch of weight onto your ship and sink it by overloading it although that sounds like a lot of effort just to be a dick but such is the world did you leave a ladder down? Although they could still grapple up if they wanted if that was the cause. You can sink ships in pvp in a similar way by overloading the max crew amount or weight. but it's even easier to just sit there with a axe and break a panel till it sinks. The people who go around destroying ships like that obviously didn't take the time to grind one out.
  14. I have been on quite a few trips since ghost ships first came out and right after the initial big nerf of their range/aggressiveness and have yet to lose a ship. I have been fired on a few times and easily outrun them. The only thing I find frustrating about them is they seem to spawn in your path of travel, they do these annoying figure 8 patterns which makes you have to sail way around if you don't want to risk cruising past. And occasionally I will get into a situation where 5 or more ships spawn in to me left right and middle and it gets a bit touch and go for a second as I try and find a good gap to slide through. I usually travel solo in a schooner or sloop with no problems even with running to adjust sails to adjust for turning around them.
  15. I agree if you wan't to build a ship for moving cargo don't put a ton of cannons or maybe at most a few on the aft so you can lob at pursuers as you evade or none at all. A ship is either intended for battle and is loaded to the brim with cannons and doesn't have much capacity for cargo or is lightly defended but able to carry a good amount of cargo. I can easily outrun SotD if I keep my weight on the ship below the over encumber limit where ships slow down considerably. Many merchant ships would be escorted by fighting ships. I realize this may not be an option if your company isn't big but I have sailed around 40 hours since the game came out and not been in a single engagement sailing sloops and schooners and a short trip on a brig less an occasional shot from a SotD as I cruise past. If you are having problems evading a fully loaded warship chasing you down (which is probably unlikely) just dump some weight overboard and you will quickly outrun them for a loss of some supplies. I would also always recommend using speed sails over weight and maneuvering. Medium speed on sloop. Large speed on schooner with a small maneuvering or small speed. It makes sailing into the wind a bit of a pain but speed is king. The weight sail increase is a static increase (about 10 ship levels of weight) and no better in speed than the maneuvering sail and the maneuvering sail is noticeably slower than the speed sail and based on how slow it felt to me will leave you in peril of escaping SotD or other boats.
  16. I am in a fairly large company who has control of a good chunk of sectors. I am personally living in a lawless sector a few sectors away from the nearest company outpost where you cannot claim land the only way to maintain your spawn is via maintaining a boat or raft with a bed on it. The island itself has around 20 companies on it, it's a medium sized island. There are a few of the top 10 companies on the island and so far the people I have run into have not been hostile at all except for the first boat I built someone tried stealing right after I released it from the shipyard. I am building boats, loading them with materials and bringing them back to my companies bigger production bases. I am essentially playing as a small group on my own. Yes I have the option to call in reinforcements if needed but I have been able to get along with the others on my island just fine for quite a few days. If I have an issue about resource spawning or placements I go talk to them. One of my allied companies is also on the island and we share info about what's going on with each other, possible troublemakers etc. I have spent over 35 hours sailing supplies across 1/8 th of the map with no ship engagements beyond the periodic hit from a SotD as I speed past. And another 30 on this island living with these people. You may just be in a sector with people who are overly aggressive and should move on if diplomacy is failing to work for you.
  17. grappling hook, stone arrow and 5 organic paste in a smithy into a zipline anchor. Then you shoot the grapple across and anchor it near you.
  18. I agree the servers were more playable when they were crashing. Most of the zones I am in have 1/3 to half as many people as they did when they were crashing and the lag is insanely worse now. A regular restart script until they sort out whats causing the server to eat up resources and lag after being up for a while would be nice.
  19. I agree the spawn rate is pretty nuts. This was me the night of the latest patch when their numbers were reduced. One screenshot left, another right both taken at the same time. I also love how they spawn either in your path or just left or right of it and do figure 8's in the way so you have no option but to steer around. Which depending on the wind can add a lot of extra time. Sometimes I just say screw it if the wind is behind me and cruise by take a few lobs and speed off into the sunset but still feels unbalanced. This assumes you do Medium/Large speed sail on sloop or schooner and your boat isn't encumbered at the 70% mark or whatever the weight is when your ship turns into a slug.
  20. I winded up having to ask a company member to lay the keel/skeleton of the ship in my shipyard. They mentioned they also had problems with making a raft. I was able to finish outfitting the ship after that. That said I have seen tons of people in my company all day mentioning this same bug. I tried respecing my skills in case that was an issue. Didn't help. Relogging, adding extra material, respawning, using a different shipyard, changing home region, none of these worked. I was in sector M8 on the NA PVP server. It's a spawn area but not a freeport. afaik it's a lawless region as you cannot place claim flags. Hopefully this can be resolved soon as it's really frustrating to try and pump ships out for my company but having to find someone every time I need to start a new ship.
  21. I have the mats in the shipyard, I click craft and it just says "Not enough resources over and over" Screenshots showing I obviously have enough resources. Anyone else experiencing this bug? There are some others in my company having the issue but no one has and ideas on a solution. Curious if its a bug or something?
