Fiber gather rates

I have the 40% increase in Gathering plus there's a 2.5 Gather Rate at the moment, but when gathering Fiber I get maybe 8 to 10 bits.  If I gather from a dead animal or, say a Tree, I get 30 to 50 meat and maybe 40-60 wood with an axe or 60-80 thatch with a pick.  Has anyone else noticed the low Fiber rate?  It's  a bottleneck for me because I have plenty of wood, thatch, stone, etc.

The gather by hand perks don't work, ignore them

The fiber costs in the game is stupid, with that amount it takes to make a ship part and the low harvest rate for fiber it feels like in building an fiber ship not a wood ship

The fiber cost must be balanced alot.

I find the bonus effects resources gathered with a tool not your hands. Also the traits I believe allow you to gather faster ie less time between swipes at the bush as opposed to getting more per swipe

It's much better now that I can make a Sickle, but the Traits say "gathered by hand" so really bare hands should get the bonus too.  The 2.5x event bonus doesn't seem to affect gathering by actual hand either.
