factions don't have to work the way suggested a couple of posts up. Elite Dangerous has dozens of factions but its reputation based, you don't specifically join one you just do work for them and gain/lose reputation.

Factions implemented like ED would be fine. You are not pigeon holed in to a specific faction and unable to attack members of the same faction. ED uses them as a background story plot, where gaining influence merely unlocks better quests and access to ports. ED is also more of a sandbox design. Kind of an ED fan, wish I could land on a planet and make a base. Maybe someday SC will.....lol I joke, p2w sucks anyways.

It's the theme park WoW or ESO factions, where you are forced to play nice with a large % of the population that suck dick. No ty. Lets keep it sandbox, and keep it so I can mutiny at any point in time.

That can actually happen on lawless btw, I can put a wall down around anyones shipyard if I wanted to. Ships are not safe either, I see someones ship I can slap a wall down around it.

You will always get griefing in 1 way or another, that goes for all games. They would have to delegate time to ticketing system.

We are not saying we have all the answers to these problems. Its not for us to come up with them, that's why they are devs. Even if we did come up with solutions they still wouldn't listen.

The faction system would probably have quadrants, certain parts are for different factions. You would start off in a safe zone. This enables what they want all along pvp as you go through these other faction areas.

Maybe certain resources you need are in another faction area so you would have to engage at times, likelihood is other same faction is also there for same to come to your aid.

They will not test these things out though, its wishful thinking but it can be done. This is why game is not fully released as in complete and I don't expect it to be.

Lets do the say it out loud test on your first statement.

    Now:

Bob builds a shipyard and a boat. Tom walls it in. Bob blows that shit up and captures Tom in a cage. Then fucks off and sails away.

    With Factions:

Bob of Faction A builds a shipyard and a boat. Tom of Faction A builds a wall around it just to be a dick. Bob can do nothing as they are in the same Faction.

See the issue here? Not even the main issue, just 1 single issue.

The main issue is.... This is a "SANDBOX" mmo game. Factions are a "THEME PARK" mmo feature.

In a sandbox, you make your own teams and generate your own content. No one is your enemy, or everyone is your enemy, or a little of both. Your choice.

In a theme park game, the content is all there for you to just hop on and ride. Your faction is your premade team, complete with premade teammates also forced to chose a side. Quests are premade content to give you something to do. So you can join your team of their choosing and see the sites they want you to see.

Factions belong in theme park games like WoW and ESO. That is not the theme and style Atlas was advertised or designed around.

...Hire some players for a closed test server -> actually you should pay those testers instead of getting founded by the players that suffer your decision or just quit playing. I spend more than 2000 hours for 20€. Not a bad deal for me but still it feels i paid too much for all the issues i faced so far.

I liked this kind of sandbox game actually. There was nothing than a undiscovered and unsettled world. The players had to settle down and build towns etc., they had to harvest everything to do so by hand, they had to group up to do big things. Only issue... you can't have a realistic environment in a online game where people troll on PvE and just use the PvP tag to just destroy everything... red = dead, and ofline "raiding" for no loot.... Other said to that there are some hardcore rollplay servers where you actually have to care about your life instead of fast recovery dieing, interact with your sourrundings etc. but of course that is not a game for everybody.

The game gives many options but currently the most important seams to be missing -> access to ships.

It was such a great expirience to gatter resources and build a ship by your hands. To collect tames like elephant and giraffe to be able to build brigs and even galleons with a decent amount of time to spend for harvesting. On 1x settings there is no need for gold to make farming a ship cost you time.

But nowadays you don't need to search NPC... just drop a puckle manned and unseat to have it for the ship(once we had npc gatter ships). Resources are gattered by automated farmhouses. If you do not have farmhouse and warehouse to trade you don't have gold and you don't have ships. Why the hack a shooner is not for free? It tooks you about 10-15 ships build and lost in fight at least to get you on a level where you know what your ships need to survive. Or you are lucky to meet somebody telling you. But than you need to actually have a good ship and than learn to maneuver it in battle. I don't see how new players can learn this game and stick to it in it's current state(other than never leaving their island).

Atlas will not be a sandbox survival, farm, build and >>sail<<game anymore

Atlas will not be a MMO that focuss on building teams. Players build companys to develop an friendly and foe environment that is not guided by the developers

Atlas will not be a fraction based game as this is not working with the current environment of a sandbox where players can build everywhere with a theoretical complete freedom in decisions.

Atlas will not be Sea of Thieves or some kind of World of Warships in pirate theme... ESports in Atlas, wtf?(pick ship, pick server, clikc start and fight - sink and restart)

Conch, Tell us what is Atlas and what shall it be in the End of 2021?

So, obviously, we should start with gatter. Its "gather". I know it looks similar but the "th" phonic cant really be supplemented with the "tt". In this case "getter" would have been more appropriate.

I feel you are being a bit hyperbolic.

I agree that the ships are a little too difficult to obtain for solos and duos. They are certainly not unobtainable though. My only real complaint about this new system is the schooner. I feel it should be free or at least much cheaper as it should be the go to boat for small crews and solos. OR I would also accept the compromise of making a sloop speed closer to that of a schooner.

Farms and manned puckles greatly improved the solo experience. Not having to tame multiple different animals, just to gather resources at a decent clip was an amazing addition. Not having to go and get NPCs to defend your little spot helped tremendously as well. You worded your statement as if it was better before with just tames, and implied that you could no longer do things the way you used too. However you can still have your great experience and gather resources and NPCs in the exact same way as you did before with tames and boats.

Now there is an issue with the farms and WHs and markets. Ironically its the same issue with the original claiming system, limitless expansion. The bigger companies will setup their market systems on their claimed island. Then go and setup more systems on lawless islands. They will destroy and push out solos and smalls on a lawless to increase their self trades and generate an amount of gold that no solo or small will be able to contend with. This unlimited expansion coupled with the ability to trade with your own markets is why solos and smalls find it so difficult to compete. There should be some serious thought into 1 market per company, or some type of cap per company.

    All that aside, this is why I responded to your post;

"Atlas will not be a sandbox survival, farm, build and >>sail<<game anymore"

It is a fact that it is all of these things still. I do all of these things, even if I preferred free boats.

"Atlas will not be a MMO that focuss on building teams. Players build companys to develop an friendly and foe environment that is not guided by the developers"

The irony of this statement following the first statement. That last part is by definition what makes it a sandbox game.

"Atlas will not be a fraction based game as this is not working with the current environment of a sandbox where players can build everywhere with a theoretical complete freedom in decisions."

Right right, lets keep the game whole. No fractions please.

"Atlas will not be Sea of Thieves or some kind of World of Warships in pirate theme... ESports in Atlas, wtf?"

The Atlas devs should definitely take a hard close look at Sea of Thieves. Same engine, same theme, worse graphics but everything works flawlessly. They should aspire to even get close to Sea of Thieves.

Esports? Lol that was clearly a joke. Atlas is not a talent based game, nor do even enough people know it exist to contemplate Esports.

Waste of time and lots of frustration to add. Pc companies farm Xbox community for content, not items or anything, nope. Just grief and grief because they don't fight other big crews. All these lvl 100+ people 2 days after a wipe and you just be lvl 20 getting bent over while they think they have skills. I was all geared up in armor and guns and couldn't stop one naked guy from punching my npcs to death. Mega crews use mega exploits to get ahead faster then any small crew ever could. And we can't even use the same methods cause they are just waiting around to farm people with absolutely nothing to gain... don't buy.

LvL 100+ within 2 days of a wipe implies some solid exploiting and/or outright cheating. Even we PC players struggle to compete against that. The Chinese for example will always cheat as its in their cheater blood. Really anyone that's big is almost certainly cheating. I've seen several of them do it. I have not yet found out how to cheat myself despite a few hours of looking for one. (SO if anyone knows how, feel free to PM me. I'm all for cheating when I feel like I'm the only one not doing it.)

If you think this is a skill game you are dead wrong. It is a true MMO in the fact that lvls and gear decide the winner of any battle. You will have to get up near lvl 120 to have a chance to compete against lvl 120s. That being said, I have not been above about lvl 70 as a solo. Certainly don't try to fight these mega assholes anymore.

Now you absolutely could use the same methods, save when they patch it out and only the megas profited from it. The problem is they wont tell you what those methods are. They would be like @Acemac and say there is a solution and not say shit about it.

Can't do anything about any of that stuff.

However you can improve your situation.

Get a decent PC and level that playing field. Or you could upgrade to the new xbox, but you would still not be as good as on a PC.

  5. Well, you're in PvE, so who cares how quickly you get it. Its not like you will lose it. None of the other pirates can actually pirate you, ironically.

Fastest way, join a bigger company, then steal their gold and leave. Or stay, who cares its PvE, not much difference. Should yield as much gold as you can get on a boat and sail away with. Don't skimp, you're on PvE so like I said, they cant fight you for it or steal it back. I recommend this one if your a solo.

2nd fastest way, get a sloop and some maps. Grab shipwrecks and flotsam on the way to the map. Do the map. Grab all the shipwrecks and flotsam on the way back. Again, if you even bother going back. Its PvE, so you can literally live on your boat. Should pull down 1000-3000/hr depending on maps and luck. Id recommend this one if you are a small group, 3 or less.

Slowest way, go through the trouble of building farmhouses and WHs and a market and get that all going. Earn 30-5000 gold a day. Id do this one if you have say 5 or more people to help out. (Also do the 2nd one as well.)

Does anyone know when the next wipe is, and when the scheduled wipes are? Me and my friends are debating on starting our own server, or joining an official server. The problem is, is that on hosting a server, you only get 3 islands, but on the official servers you obviously get tons, but we don't want to get wiped getting to end game and have to start over.

No one knows when the next wipe is. They said they don't want to wipe with new claim system, but I honestly do not know how they could possibly pull that off. The bigger companies are so entrenched in their islands that it wouldn't be a fair playing field if they don't wipe. It could be next week, it could be March. You can only be certain that it will happen eventually.

That being said, this game is in EA. If you are at all concerned about wipes and preserving your progress, please do not play this game at this point in time. You will get mad, and will only have yourself to blame. Losing everything every day in EA doesn't bother me at all. Restarting 3x a year is fine as well for now. You gotta have that mindset for EA.

I think that they should fix the issue with no land from people spamming .. like when there is blocks or fence post buoys everywhere just to stop people from having land.. I have 400 hrs in the game and have a farm but no warehouse sad.

WE should have option if we see spam blocks to click in game and report as spam. for it to be reviewed in timely manner and spam destroyed with a warning sent to the person doing it letting them know 3 violations and your whole land gets wiped..  or only so many farms per person per island .. so say i am on one island i can have a farm and if i build on an other island same 1 or 2 farms max . that will give all new comers some hope for a small plot to build on..

Lastly I bought a new amd 6900 xt graphics card and am not a newbie went thru amd tech support  the game gets stuck at load screen with any driver for the new card .. install my old card game plays .. please fix     or if someone knows how to get to work please post it up thanks

The spam fence posts suck dick and should really be addressed.

Babysitting people with GMs and tickets will never work, even less so without a subscription model. Any solution should be a mechanical process, not involving labor.

That card is brand new. It may take a few weeks or months for proper drivers that will work with all games. It has nothing to do with Atlas the game most like.

If you are looking for a better experience in Atlas, keep in mind it will rely on the CPU more heavily that most games, or so it seems to me. Upgrading you CPU would likely provide a better boost than upgrading your GPU unless you had something less than a 1080 gtx. After that making sure you have a SSD and a HD will boost overall performance every bit as much as a GPU.

@Chucksteak Please do not quote only a part of my thougts. I mentioned that the nerf is good in regards to the current state that you can glide cross grids and that you can glide from one island to another. That is why I suggested to reduce the total height of the islands as the most mountains are just stupid and cause the "exploit" using of the glider as mentioned. So if reduce the height of the islands and allow players may only to build up 100 parts on top of each other there would be limits that allow you to glide on a island or to nearby enemy ships on the sea but don't allow you to glide to other islands in the most cases and especially not out of the grid. -> Issue solved and no nerf needed.

I only quoted the part I was responding too. To prevent walls of text.

Limiting terrain would be worse that what they already did to the map by nerfing it to this small size it is now.

The thing is, its not an exploit if it was working as intended. If a glider is gliding, it seemed to me like it was working perfectly. Originally you could glide almost forever, but they did patch that out. On some islands, the gliders were the way to get around. I personally liked to use them for scouting things like hydras, as well as general transportation around an island. All of that is gone now for no reason I can see. A glider that doesn't even really glide, why not just remove it from the game entirely? I do not understand the reason for this nerf.

If someone is cheating, perhaps enabling other software, that is not an exploit.

If someone was dropping explosives, well, that's just something you could actually do with a glider and I do not see the problem with this. Its super hard to do anyways. Can we please have some semblance of skill and not just win by being lvl 120 by default?

  9. 7 hours ago, Nacona said:

Also glider nerf is good for the game regarding safe places to build(PvP).

    What?! No its not...

The glider nerf is the 2nd worst thing this group of devs has done.

Cap the terrain? Reduce the build limit? You do not understand what a sandbox is supposed to be do you? I bet you'd support factions too. Perhaps you'd prefer a theme park MMO.

Also, the current claim system is absolute trash. It caters to big companies at the expense of smaller groups. Absolutely terrible design.

@Devs - Put the glider back. Dumbest god damn thing I've seen since the barrels came back. But you fixed them, I expect you to fix this too.

...fucking dolphins....I didn't need a damn dolphin when I could make a schooner whenever I needed one.

    Cant sail, too expensive

    Cant fly, nerfed to hell

No point in taming, I can steal from someone's farm.

    No BPs to craft.

No land to even claim if I wanted to, megas holding multiples and all.

No point in building, anything on land will be shredded as mentioned by oh, EVERYONE!

    @devs - What is it you are leaving us to do in this game? I loved what you were doing at first, but since then its going to shit. The way I see it you are taking away everything interesting there was to do in Atlas. I feel like I increasingly have only 3 options;

    1. STFU and join a big group bc that's all that is considered when making changes.

    2. Stay solo/small, enjoy whatever island you made your home region, don't expect to see any endgame and then STFU. The big guys will be along soon to enforce option 1 or 3.

    3. Move along, this game isn't for solo/small groups. Be borg, bend the knee or be gone.

  10. What? A god damn dolphin? What about fixing the claims?

Or more importantly, how bout undo the wtf glider nerf. We never even got an explanation as to why some asshat decided it needed nerfing.

Between the glider nerf and the abhorrent cost to build ships, this is more and more a farm sim. ONLY NOW WITH DOLPHINS!

  11. 5 hours ago, Wichtelman said:

IF all ships + tames etc would be safe as soon as you are offline the whole server would be cluttered/stressed... players tend to build xxx ships and tame xxx creatures...

You stated a problem as if it must be so, then unknowingly provided the answer.

"X" as you used it is just a variable. The exact same as in a games coding. The amount of ships allowed per company is also a "X" in the Atlas coding. It says something like "300" right now. It could be changed to say "50". Or it could be a factor, something to the effect of "x= company member count", or "x= 2(company member count)".

The point is, this is a non issue. People make too many boats? Reduce the allowable build limit. As it is now every person can make hundreds of boats, and tame hundreds of tames per grid. But that's all literally just a singe variable in the code.

  12. The easy answer is the one you have, you just don't like it. Its ok, most of us don't like it either. You ride that sloop into the ground. Then make another.

If you have an abundant amount of game time, or if there are even 4 of you just kind of actively playing, you want to set up a warehouse with some farms and a market. The market will get some money rolling in over time. The trick is to have everything working and not getting messed with when you log off.

You will need some 25k to get a schooner and a dock to try to keep it safe in.

I'm solo, I cannot play every day for hours. So this idea of theirs doesn't work great for me. I have largely sat out this season so far because of the ships costing 10k+ gold thing.

If you do what the devs would prefer, you will find a bigger company to join. The game is currently balanced heavily in favor of larger companies. I just find it makes the game suck and I lose interest the second someone limits how I play.

Basically, these devs have made some terrible decisions this season and the game play suffers for it.

Barrels, Gliders, Ship cost, no limits on WHs or FHs, Claiming islands still a thing, ect...

    • Haha 1

  13. Wow, what are the odds of that.

Obviously I'm going to mention that your problem is easily solved on the PvP servers. So the best I can offer for condolences is a soft chuckle at the Mexican stand off.

Personally, if we are throwing 2 cents in, I'd like to see the things spawn in a different random grid every 24 hours and hang out there causing trouble until 24 hours is up or its killed.

Oh, and why are there 2 of the same boss? Super lazy devs, in SoT you have all kinds of sea monsters randomly come at you. I know how you all like to model animals over there....

This part about Sea of Thieves, I've been on this for a while. The way they handled the sea in that game was the absolute best part of that game. If you haven't tried it out, I highly recommend it to anyone to paly for a few hours just to sail around. The encouraging thing is that SoT was built on the exact same engine as Atlas. Witch means its absolutely possible to expect so much more from at least this part of the game. It also highlights the gap between talent and resources from an established game developer like Rare vs a startup like GS.

Grats you fixed the barrels after months. This is the same thing. I'd rather see you introduce airships than take away the gliders.

Common guys! You've ruined the fact that you increased reverse speeds on boats. Not that I can afford a real boat anymore. But hey, at least I can fly either. Why are you consistently locking out content and shutting down options. No I get to play a poor castaway who is limited to land movement only.

Setting aside the fact that these guys never set out to create software to save lives, or even keep people safe. Purely entertainment for those of us rich enough to have spare time and disposable income.

What exactly is it you think you are doing here? You did not purchase a game that is finished. If the "early access" didn't tip you off, perhaps the fact that you paid so little should have been a sign. YOU are the tester sir, congrats. Your payment is a giant discount on the final price of the game. Plus the entertainment you get form EA. Not a bad deal.

Yes, these devs are super inexperienced. This would be the company's first game. They clearly do not have very many people, and those they have are clearly not the best around. Their entire outline for the game was rough at best. It likely read something like "Use UR4 engine and build a pirate game". Actually, it was probably, "Lets make Ark into a pirate game." Ark isn't exactly a well made game either, which didn't help, but the scope was small enough that it was pulled off and sold for retail price.

Really, I don't expect these guys to ever finish. Mostly because its been 2 years now, the game was originally supposed to release this week, and they aren't sure witch direction they want to go with the game yet. But the concept is great, and good for the industry as a whole.

Umm nah dude you realize that that's more like season 3 if anything? except i said exponentially more expensive as you expand claims.

Used to be like 1-2k a day for a 130-150 pointer

Or honestly, exactly like the current season.

You understand they are literally talking about reverting the claim system directly back to how it was in season 1 right now?

It's currently cheaper to own an entire grid now, in this season, then it was in season 3. The islands are a lot smaller, and they reduced gold costs. This actually made it worse for solos and small groups, the bigger companies can just afford to buy more and do.

Season 3 still had island claims. I'm talking about the original flag, that gave you a circle, fairly small. They said they were reverting back to something similar to season 1. That does not imply that it will be the same as season 1. If you remember, the worst part of that system was the unlimited use of flags. Granted you also had 200 member companies at the same time. That was a stupid stupid idea, that could have been a decent idea by simply giving every person 1 single flag. Or even better, giving only 1 flag per company, no personal flags.

IDEALLY, they abandon the idea of flags altogether. Make all islands lawless. Restore the size of the original map. Give us the ability to keep our super expensive ship safe (without another super expensive structure that can still be breached). You know, things that would encourage and support the idea of being on the sea more.

But first, lets get rid of any one company owning an entire island, let alone a whole grid.

  20. Yeah, that way the big guys could own several grids with thier massive amounts of gold and solos like me can live on.....oh wait we are right back at season 1.

Let's even it out a bit more fairly. 1 person, 1 claim. If you got 50 people in company, you got 50 claims. Seems fair.

Tilt it more for solos if you like. 1 company, 1 claim. Makes land more availible and accessable.
