  1. Correct me, because I think I'm wrong. With the new changes to the colony server. Mega's split into smaller companies own the islands, recruit small companies to live on those islands.

Content for those wanting to raid and burn will involve smashing those smaller companies bases during the 'timer' and avoiding doing any damage to the owners of the Island?
So this new server only secures the mega's as a controlling power?

  2. I've been trying to get some friends back to the game and the number one issue they had was they used to love boarding ships during fights. Via glider/grappling hooks etc. But after a while, everyone started putting a npc swivel on every ship bigger than a sloop. Killed their interest in the game, wondering if anyone else has the same thoughts?

I think Sea of Thieves style of anchoring a hostile ship so you can actually brawl it out/board ships is really awesome and something we're lacking in the current meta.

The problem is that you think the only reason to be on the sea, is raiding.  The game is going to fundamentally change.  You will still go to farm resources not on your island, and you will still go to powerstone islands, etc...  There are many reasons to go to sea.  Raiding was only one of them.

    Could you list these reasons?

Why would I still go to power stone islands? Once it's been collected already and the stupid fountain naked run.
Farming resources not on the island, yes, might have to do that once every 2 weeks maybe if you're burning through BP's (hopefully finding pvp/raiding).

It is actually what would allow you to mix the servers together. Because every settlement owner gets to set the raid times to their schedule it means that a Na timed player could play next to an eu timed player and if the set their raid times to their play times the na player couldn't raid the EU player unless he raided them on the EU players schedule.

Is their way of saying we will only make you vulnerable during the times your company plays so no douche monkey can raid you at 3am your time while you are sleeping.

You're assuming mixing involves cohabitation. Instead of having multiple timezone players in the same company. For example, we have a few night shift players that come on around 6am eu time for a few hours every day. They'd be blocked out from raiding anyone around us, if they also share EU timezone primes (I assume most EU companies will use an EU timezone as raid times). That's an entire aspect of the game removed from them now, as they're playing in a period where the servers are quiet anyway thus the likely hood of finding pvp is low.

My issue is this: Now, if you don't play at the peak times, you're completely locked out of a portion of the game. They may as well be playing on the PVE server, if farming/pve is all they should do according to previous responses here.

You can still PvP.  Just not on land.  You have to hunt for ships on the ocean.

Something had to change.  Most people are NOT going to play a game of "who can stay up the latest."  AI is horrible at protecting your base, no matter how much of it you have.  People were tired of logging in to find that somebody raided them while the slept, sinking ships, killing tames, and taking everything of value, and sometimes even foundation wiping.  While you may feel restricted, and leave, this will bring a lot of players back, because offline raiding was the number one game mechanic complaint of those who left.

Yup, and those ships you used to find on the ocean going off to raid wont be there anymore. Meaning less ship v ship fights. Few days of searching fruitlessly will kill off those captain's drive for the game too.

I guess you're assuming that those players that have left already are following patch notes and can muster up the interest to give the game another go a few months down the line. There may be a short term spike (week or so for the 'I cant find an Island' upset on the forums), but I think these changes are going to do more damage to the existing player base than will be made up by people thinking they can come back for a real MMORPG experience. Hell, Saturdays peak players was 9k. Down from 14k last weekend.

Then they are dumb.  This will be good times to go get things done.  Harvest resources on other islands...they won't be paranoid about an attack.  Go do end game stuff.  Build ships, add defenses, etc...  That is what is wrong with this community...they think every moment must be attacking and defending.  There should be more to the game than that.

Why is it dumb to do what you enjoy and dodge what you don't? That also may be the only time scales they can play? Doesn't that also potentially disrupt mixing EU/NA/OA players together for example?
Who hasn't done the end game stuff already?

I'll farm on a Saturday for 2/3 hours and then spend the rest of the week going out to pvp, because farming isn't my favourite activity. Does that mean I'm dumb? Think you're being a bit close minded Captain =[

  7. Dragons though.... whyyyyy dragons. Only people using them are the major companies to end fights before they start.

Not sure this ORP change will do anything for the population. Just means the people coming on for pvp wont log on at particular times of the day. So for example, I can look at my discord and say there's 10 people playing atm. But once the war changes go live, there'll be maybe half of that playing when they cant hit someone. Meaning that then the more casual players won't see there friends online and will probably head over to rocket league instead (for example).

. There are places for the taming/trading community. They exist in the entities big enough to protect them.

Let's see if The Division 2 turns out to be AAA gaming's savior. Ehh who am I kidding, with Anthem looking like it might go down the tubes EA is probably toast no matter what. Good riddance.

Nah, EA has Fifa. A yearly gold mine. I agree with everything else you said though.

Well there you have it there going with a war system, if done right maybe better than strait orp.

No I made an assumption, that you used a cannon bear against online players, which is going to be a weak strat, and slow seiging vs online players, nothing big about it.

Also shock and awe strat doesnt mean mortars, it CAN mean mortar, because those do alot of damage, but I was meaning anything that can do massive destruction quickly.

A ship loaded with large cannons can certainly do alot of damage to bases close to water.

My point was ,if I'm sitting in my base with resources and you hit my gate or wall with one cannon bear, it's not very threatening. I know I'll be able to gear out and distract you to place a wall or two to keep ya out.

If you hit the wall with a large cannon barrage of 10-15 larges, then I'd have to think pretty quick to save stuff, or stop you from getting in.

And if it's too far inland or up high ,then mortaring probably Is the best option, that or setting barrels.

I don't think you read what he said. Or I think he was trying to say your shock and awe tactic involved getting mortared. Or atleast that's how i read it, because in my experience that's what happens. If the base has been worth trying to break into, they've got a ton of mortars set up. Never tried hitting a base with a boat since getting hit by one myself. Captain died, boat was immobile for the next 2 hits. Crew dead/ panels missing/sail almost gone. No thanks. Never again =]

But yeah, I've done those tactics in sieges. Have one fella shoot fire arrows at the cannon bears. They stop firing then a team mate patches all the holes in the walls. It's so broken. Lasted  3/4 hours in a 5x5 against Enslaved when they were shooting barrels/cannon balls off multiple bears 😄

  9. @Mike L

I haven't been in the situation where one has caught up with me without having most of the planks and/or sails removed. And when they have, swivels have finished them off. So I'm unable to really discuss that with you.
The base 5k panels drop too quickly currently, and not many people are willing to put bp's on schooners. (That I've play with/against)

  10. There's dragons in a pirate game.
There's very few people actually playing on EU PVP now.
Galleons/ships reduce frame rate way too much.
The current meta is 10 large cannons on the back of your ship and running away. (if you can find a fight)
Sea claims are ridiculously badly implemented.
The discovery system to be able to level is a joke.
Blueprints give over the top bonuses.
HP scaling to over 300 is stupid.
There's no boarding of ships because AI swivel guns instant kill most players. (This was one of the most fun bits of the game in the start. Trying to grapple onto someones boat)
Medium cannons on boats are completely wasted when the hostile has large cannons cos range and damage.
Medium cannons atleast had to hit the ship a few times before panels broke, in the current fights you get a single volley of larges off, wipe 3 or 4 planks then they're forced to run away.
There's no way to slow down hostile ships as bar shotte travels shorter than my nan can triple jump.

  11. Literally logged on to this nonsense patch.
-You increase the weight costs of items at the same time as releasing a debuff on the entire population's weight.
-What was the need for this Fountain of Youth crap? You want to force everyone into a node that can only support 50 people (cos they rarely work particularly well over that)
-FOY. Why have you created another time sync that no one actually wants to do?
-Alphas are insanely difficult to deal with normally(pistols/melee), and you've nerfed our tool to deal with them MASSIVELY.
    - The cost of fire arrows now massively out weighs the damage.
    - 10 fire arrows before a bow breaks? It took 6 fire arrows to kill my character with 170 ish hp.

On normal games, the player base looks forward to the patch notes. This is all unhelpful, limiting and is putting people off the game.
Had been close to persuading some friends to joining us in playing Atlas, can't honestly say I even want to play when you cripple us with thought lacking ideas.

Let us have fun! Stop putting more limitations and hoops to jump through before we get to actually have fun!

  12. The sea creatures spawn rates need turning down.
Seems like every ship fight ends fruitlessly when you go down to get any remaining loot to find not just 1 or 2 sharks, but 6 sharks, 2 jelly fish that are tethered further under the water so you even kite them to the surface to kill, they just swim back down and recover their hp.

  13. OP, cant tell if your trying to persuade people or immediately categorise people as not meant for your idea and thus dismissing them.

I personally don't mind paying money for a server to have some sort in game support. BUT, the current state of the game will mean that those 'ingame GMs' will be pestered with requests they just wont be able to full fill.

THIS WOULD ALSO MEAN MORE LAND BECAUSE OF PEOPLE WHO DROP THEIR SUB WOULD OPEN UP MORE AREA FOR NEW PLAYERS

It wouldn't, the larger companies would take over the plots sooner than the new players can find them.

You get one shot... Full plate armor with shield equiped. 1 tapped by flame arrow :)))

The damage is hp% based. So unless you were stood in the fire for a while, it shouldnt '1 hit' you.

Edited to add: Yes i know it sets you on fire too. But the spot it lands also does damage.

  15. So if there's not a body inside a claim to contest it, you can steal it in around 30 minutes. Basically, if you don't have the man power online or sleepers protecting that claim spot then it can be claimed. I like the system personally (on pvp server, not tried pve). It means that people cant claim tons of land without either actively playing or being in it.

  16. Pvp is shield bash spam? First person to get the shield bash hit wins?

No diminishing returns, no chance to walk away. Just get stunned and continue to be stunned.

  17. So i logged on this morning, fresh faced and excited to play:
Looked at my options, the boat needed work, we were low on tools, melee weapons and armor.
Then remembered I'm specced into making guns/cannons and can't do anything to help my company.
    Logged off.

I understand people want specialisation but if i can't log on and actually get on with something because of limitations of the game design, then i think the system is flawed.
Yes i know, I could spent hours farming, but seriously. That shouldn't be the only option.
