  1. Nah I get that. I just know bears are fairly strong mounts and the horses are lacking. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. One way or another people will not be happy. I do understand how people don't want to be forced into taming things. It's easy enough to say-Well don't tame if you don't like them. However seeing it from that side. Your choice is either tame or be destroyed-or at least that's the way I'm interpreting it. Still a playstyle that I will admit. I wouldn't be good at. I mean I could probably survive on the PVP side but it would be cause people just feel to sorry to destroy me.
  2. I know one office is in Seattle area. Im sure they have multiples. Lol Martyn im so sorry but im glad its hitting you and not me. I hope the white stuff stays away from Indiana. Rain I can deal with.
  3. Ya'll do realize its only 6am in seattle rightnow?
  4. Thanks hon for clarifying that. Now I get why some people are against them. I play on a PVE server and was kinda baffled by the negative reaction. I have seen some posts where people want carts/cannons limited to horses. I actually agree with their idea after reading this. Playing PVE I do like the tames. I love the solo taming aspect. I don't use cages. Mostly I free tame on the land so it gives me a bit of a challenge. I can't say they've all gone very smoothly. I'm honestly not opposed to them nerfing animals versus human players for the PVP aspect. I tame animals for their gathering capabilities. I'm not sure how easily that can be done and still keep them in line for killing alphas. I'd love to play PVP cept I have sparkly vision and would just end up dead repeatedly. Too much frustration for me and id be the type of person that would get mad, kill someone or destroy their base, then apologize a bunch and give their stuff back =P Yeah I know. nice girls finish last.
  5. I honestly don't understand why so many people are against the land tames. Yes I get its a pirate game. But why can't we have both. I'd love to see Atlas community grow to the 45k ark numbers at 9am on a Saturday versus the 1700 that's in game right now. If land tames keep bringing people in. Well that's going to make both the PVE and the PVP community happy. People like to be social. Please for the love of god. No more delays. I'm going a bit stir crazy over here waiting for PTR and the Wipe. Thanks for all the hardwork Devs. I know I couldn't do your job without yelling at tons of people.
  6. At this rate I really hope they do stuff for solo people. My entire company has now moved on to Outlaws of the Old West due to the repeated delays and waiting over a month now for stuff to happen.
  7. Lol I love tropico! This made me giggle lots.
  8. Well men (or ladies). It has been a pleasure having morning coffee with you. I fear I must get my kitchen cleaned and go to the store. Maybe load up some conan since I haven't played that in awhile. I will see you guys during game break or for tomorrows morning coffee routine!
  9. My first stone base. The terrain was uneven so I had to double foundation in areas. Animals constantly sunk into the foundations and I couldn't get them out. Cliff plaform I had an alpha rattlesnake get in and ate a bunch animals I had on passive. It was enclosed so no reason a snake could get into it. I used railings but somehow it got through. Elephants went awol tyring to board them onto ships. Now I just have them follow me up ladders. Breeding needs some adjustments from what I hear. It is nice they are gonna make all animals as breedable. But they do need to clarify on the system and put what animals need what biome to grow in. In todays world. Most people don't want to have to play a guessing game or waste the time to figure out what biome a baby is gonna grow up in. If the animal naturally spawns in that biome. It should be breedable and be able to grow in that same biome. I get how ark did it with specific eggs needed specific tempatures. But all of that was mitigated with the use of air conditioners or campfires/torches. We don't have incubators/air conditioners etc in game. Once the egg hatch the baby shouldn't die from to much heat/cold etc. Esp not in an enclosed pen where you are supposed to be protected from those variables.
  10. Ark I actually chased the quetzals into cliff sides till I could jump off and tranq them. Yeah I kinda like kamikaze taming. Arks Crabs well you had no choice but to use a trap. Rock Golems too. I will say I prefer the taming on here to Ark's early days. God I don't miss those hours upon hours of taming quetz, gigas etc. Never failed. The first month of ark my husband would knock out what was it a lvl 30 or 50 rex at that time. The server rollback. It took me like 9 hours to get that thing tamed while my husband slept like a baby. Breeding I have yet to try out. Lotsa horror stories and to me it was just faster to retame if one of my animals dies or gets stuck etc.
  11. After my gazillionth attempt at trying all sortsa traps. I gave up on them. I win some and I lose some. For a giraffe. I literally used my bear instead of a bow/arrows. Got the health down. You can actually bola from a bear. Then it was the game of feed and jump back really damn fast. Release bola. Bear takes most of the hits or if it ran bear could keep up with the long legs. I could definitely see trapping as being a safer method to tame. Esp in areas with snakes etc. The only animals that I used a public trap on that went relatively well was a tiger and bears. Elephants, Rhinos and Giraffes I never had much luck in taming pens with them.
  12. See I mostly free tamed all my animals. It's a little harder. But pens screw with me and I end up dying. God knows ive tried to use public taming pens. But either the animal falls the wrong way and I can't feed it. Or I get knocked into oblivion. For me it was easier to strategically plan where my animal was gonna get knocked out. Cross my fingers and go for the adrenaline rush. I've solo tamed all my animals. It can be done. But you do have to expect death and well most animals I knocked out close to my ship so in the event that they killed me. It wasn't a long run back.
  13. Honestly i'm not sure. Maybe all along they wanted to go more towards a feudal system. They needed to see how the game would play out first? But as you can tell by the forums. People don't really want that type of system. They made the mistake of saying it was by studio wildcard. Most people came over from ark and are use to- Having your own land to do with as you see fit. Taxation probably wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a set rate. But people automatically went for the max rate. When we had 30 claims at one point. I never had to harvest for metal, wood, gems, stone etc. If I did very little of it. Before I gave away most of our turf to newbies coming into game. (Ok don't laugh) I didn't know you could access the tax bank. It sat for like 2 weeks before I seen you could access the damn thing and get the resources out. I never gated off my resources. I dropped my tax rate to around 10%. It was supplemental at best. I think it was dark and light you could Elect your city official via votes. I never really messed around much with it. Only put like 400 hours into that game before I threw the towel in. But I do recall that the elected official could set building rules and tax rates.
  14. The only way it would truly work is what 90% of the population has been asking for since day 1. One flag per person-On claimable land. But they have to put something where when the person quits the flag despawns. They also need to stop altering the flags. Decay and Rapir is a good idea that they should be able to implement with that system.
  15. I'd put the no build island with your big resources like metal, specialty trees, plants etc. Lawless model it like a freeport with generic resources so when the idiots do and will behemoth gate/foundation/pillar it out. You aren't losing that much. It will still give the people the ability to attain more land via pillars etc. Keep the accelerated decay/damage as it is intended on a lawless island. Some people really don't like the claim flag system or the tax rates so that is a good alternative. Honestly Id just rather them do away with the taxing all together. It just causes a lot of headaches cause people will constantly be fighting over the good spots. Its one headache after another and just feeds the griefing.
  16. Lol I secretly cheered the day the galleons were sunk. Even with reroll. Im a brig girl. I love the look. I love the turning radius. But yeah. Since day 1 I struggled my rubberbanding ass out of freeport. Had a few other people that sacrificed themselves to be food for me as I piloted the little crappy raft out of freeport to get land. We ended up with multiple claims. Some I gave away. Some were stolen. But traveling around the grid. Think at this point I have 75% of the map discovered. I can sympathize with every new person that comes into the game. I'd randomly check for flag spots to give away to people looking for land. The system as it is. Doesn't work. I don't think the entire lawless woulda worked either. They had the right idea with the claim flags. Hell I thought that was the greatest idea I had ever seen. Unfortunately several companies had to abuse the claim flag system. Lawless even when the game first started. I never seen much of a point to them. They coulda made use of that land in other ways. I don't fear that I won't be able to find a new place to call home. Hell id be a very nice Landlord. Just don't fill up my island with behemoth gates and you can build whatever the hell you want. Sometimes I think about jumping to PVP to see how it really is. But then I remember my early ark experiences of having my tames, bases and with this-ships taken out while I was offline and it turns my stomach. What I don't like with the pvp changes is only the "owner" can build cannons. With them I can sympathize that too. The whole point of pvp is to build defensive structures to defend your own turf.
  17. Hey I didn't do it. I hate driving galleons. I mean I really hate them. They dont' turn at all! Someone else decided to umm not just go south back to n14 and took the easy route to go north through h1-h15 etc. I was only there trying to be the repair queen!
  18. My guess is a combination of a few things. Company redesign. Accounts that can't be deleted. I'd almost think they are gonna rework the skill tree to some degree. Maybe they are gonna alter the discovery points yet again. I know the FOY buffs weren't working all that properly. They'd kick on and off. Something mighta got hosed when they turned off the old age debuff. To many variables to really say.
  19. Lol I was all for making a galleon to live on-until I ran into H15. That day we lost 2 galleons to 3 mean whales and 10+sotds. That was several weeks worth of work shot right to hell.
  20. I'm with ya. I loved the desert and the tundra. What people didn't like were the massive amounts of gators/snakes. Lack of water etc. I actually planned on making my way to either tundra or desert with the character wipe. Most people prefer the tropical/temperate/equatorial zones due to them being a bit easier to start a new character. You aren't dealing with the heat/cold. I know they are planning on reworking the animals spawns. Some islands the gators, snakes, vultures severely needed to be toned down. J10 comes to mind offhand. The tundra the amount of SoTD's were insane. Of course very few people wanted to live there. Hell id averagely lose a few ships to mean whales/sotd's cause if the wind left me. I was stuck floating and couldn't outrun being swarmed by so many things at once. Mean whales have a huge target range on them.
  21. If you are talking about rightnow. The numbers as a whole are down. When the game first came out. Lawless would have 90 people. Other grids had 30-40 people. That was when the games population was between the 40k-70k range. Now on the weekend you are looking at population of what 4-5k between 4 servers? The biggest cause of the exodus was griefing and the lack of land availability. Do I think there will be an influx when the patch comes out. Depends if they can get the wipe done and claim flags fixed before the newest game comes out. Sitting stagnant like this. Well Conan Exiles has a free weekend going on rightnow. They are grabbing people. Some people have gone back to Ark. Some will go to the latest FPS etc that come out. But the longer we all sit in limbo the worse it is. Gamers as a whole have a short attention span. Keep sitting to long. The game wont recover. Some people might come back. But if the population remains as it is. Well its like going to a bar on the weekend. If you walk into a bar with only 1-2 people. Your either gonna turn around and walk out. Have one drink and then leave. People like to be packed in together. Your gonna find a busier bar/game to play.
  22. What is the point of keeping a server grid with 3-5 islands of lawless? A stepping stone for what. Most people want to build there permanent base right off the bat. It's a whole lot of unused islands. Really they could designate one island on every grid as the Lawless/Taming island that is no build. The server grid editor actually allows you to set rates for a specific island. So you could make the island have faster respawn. But most people want a permanent base with a claim flag. L10 before we had the chaos of ship sinking/territory overlapping. We had averagely 30-40 players on it. When people lost claim flags yet again or had their entire fleets sunk. It caused a mass exodus from the game. I lost my entire company due to that. People didn't want to start from scratch all over again. They chose to go to a private server where the griefers could be banned. I stuck around and eventually joined another company.
  23. Few games have tried the whole rental units. Dark and Light comes to mind as the last one I seen. They could never get it functioning properly. Now you have shipyards and animals that also come into play. I put a post in the suggestions some time ago about adding in tiny islands that were rentable. Have it come with a shipyard and some areas to house animals. However if they would just go down to a one claim flag system per person. Wouldn't really need the whole tiny island rental thing. You want to leave some areas open on islands for resources and taming. If its outside of a resource box/claim flag area and set with a rapid decay. People could still put up taming pens. Last time I checked no tame took more then an hour to complete if you have the proper items on you for taming.
  24. Morning all. Ok so most of the islands that were foundationed spammed out were lawless islands. You never seen bad cases of spamming on claim land-exception of claim flags. So take lawless islands out. Give everyone a claim flag and call it good. The reason why I said in a previous post to put it in Thatch Construction. Well its gonna prevent the immediate log into game and start dropping claim flags everywhere. If its tied in with building it should be a little easier to add in the decay settings. IE-resource bank/claim flag in one structure. I've seen it done in multiple games where they have limited the amount of a certain structure in an area. So this I know can be done. What i'm not sure that can be done- if they put a hard limit on the amount of flag since every grid is a separate server. When the bank runs out. The area well fades away to nothing. Someone else can grab that land. Every time they tinkered with a claim flag setting they screwed it up. Some flags were grandfathered in to older settings. They need to stick with one system and let it ride. Otherwise we could look at repeated wipes in the future. As for the kraken-I think it could still be done by a solo player with the help of friends. Last I heard it took about 3 brigs and wasn't all that hard to complete. I know the drake and stuff it was 2 other companies that helped on that kill. Everyone got the update. Limiting ships. I'm not entirely sure if that is gonna work out as you think. It goes back to the claim flag thing. I'm not sure how that can be coded in with multiple servers in play. On that we need an actual game developer who can say. Yes this can be done or no -due to how the game is setup. Character wipe doesn't exactly bother me so much. Yeah its a little tedious trying to hunt down every single discovery point again. But I am hoping to be on this game for a while....I think. I actually wiped my character the first time I had to do the fountain of youth stuff-when the grids were crashing and only on one server at the time. It was easier to reroll on a double xp weekend and get rid of the old age debuff. For character wipe. If I had to guess-Much like the decay on everything else. I don't think the old bodies of people actually disappeared. Wiping is probably the only way they can truly get rid of those accounts. They need to put the claim settings back to personally owned. So if a player quits. The flags/structures will go with it. Otherwise. Big companies who will massively recruit will either have multiple accounts with claim flags or just keep adding in people so they have more territory. Companies could keep refilling banks of other players to keep them active if they aren't set to personally owned. Long run it will be the same problem all over again. Too many claim flags. Not enough land for new players. If person doesn't log in for x amount of time. All territory, ships etc need to vanish. So claim flags need to have the same render settings of the owner as the ships do. That is my morning coffee thoughts.
  25. I dunno. They could be like me. I get all the parts made and then assemble my ship. It takes me like an hour to do it that way. Remember most parts are made via smithy/loom/self. Only the skeleton is on the shipyard.
