The critical sentences in the announcement

Recommended Posts

There are a few points which have implications which i see critical or which are very hard to forsee what happens:

"An alliance now only contains a maximum of 4 companies "

Will this lead to a couple of very big alliances and then drops off to tiny ones. We are a 10 man company, so who will take us up? Probably only other 10 man companies. So we will have to live as a cost reducer on a big companies island, right? So we sit on an island owned by a much larger company and if they dont like us they will have us destroyed anytime without notice and realistc options to denfend (see below). Not sure if i like that.

" Structures that are built on a Settlement which do not belong to the Settlement Owner will have a decay timer "

Is that like the current Decay Mechanic in lawless? Or does it mean non owners will struggle against constantly damaged structures?

" Only the owner of a Settlement will be able to build offensive structures (mortars, cannons, and swivels) on their island, outside of Wartime. "

This is the most crucial sentence. So outside of War which doesnt include raid (right?) a non owner cannot build cannons on their settlement or at least they wont be functional during the raid. So no defense towers to defend the ships? What are we supposed to do against bear cannons?

Generally, is there a distinction between wartime and raidtime in the context of the rules? Is raidtime considered wartime or are they different?

what about you join a large company and still play your own game as a crew? like most companies do have that system.

Different. Check this thread for more concerns, I think you like it.

OK, so companies can only be 250 people now, so what they should do is say that an Alliance can now contain no more than 1,000 members.  Thus, smaller companies can create an Alliance as big as four 250 man companies.

Actually, thought about it: this would only help if the large companies actually have 250. with this you can ally with 10 large companies of 100 people aswell. Not sure if it would work out the way it sounds.

Right.  If the limit is 250 per company, and the Alliance limit is 4 companies, then you have 1,000 people in the Alliance, assuming all of the companies are at capacity.  Similarly, with a change to being 1,000 member Alliances, the smaller companies would be limited to a total of 1,000 people in the Alliance, so assuming 10 companies of 100 people, they would also be at max Alliance capacity.  Now, the thing here would be that while the Alliance is at max, the company is not, so what happens when they meet somebody they want to recruit.  They would not be able to.  They would receive a message saying that they cannot recruit anyone at present, due to the Alliance being at max capacity.  So, they would have to choose...stay in the Alliance, or recruit that individual.  They would have to leave the Alliance first.  Likely not something they will do.  However, if one of the Companies is just not producing, they can petition for that company to be booted.  Or, they can also ask all companies to look through their roster, and see if any players just aren't playing anymore.

At present, with the limit being on number of companies, instead of number of people, the incentive is to ally with bigger companies, so the big companies will look for other big companies.  This is what the OP fears...large companies forming large alliances.  The solution is to limit by member count, not company count.
