psykikk 66 Posted January 5, 2019 right now becauise of AI spawning its fairly hard to have an actual working base with docile animals etc. what about the implementation of a building / structure, whatnot that stops AI mobs to spawn. it wouldf only be possible to set up in claimed territory and would have to be learned for each different biome. so if you can build it for Tropics, it wont work in Temperate.. it would need maintenance (ammo) which would be the poo of the most dangerous predator of the given climate. like lion or bear poo... crocs.. you name it. there could be different levels for it as well which all increase the radius or the tier of animals on which it works. TrevorJD 117 Posted January 5, 2019 The strange thing is that foundations are stopping resource spawning on unofficial servers. Why the heck isn't it turned on on official?
psykikk 66 Posted January 5, 2019 Just now, TrevorJD said: The strange thing is that foundations are stopping resource spawning on unofficial servers. Why the heck isn't it turned on on official? stopping ressoucre spawning is plain dumb. maybe in an area of 1m around it. just not fierther. but AI spawning should be possible to decrease and maybe totally stp with the right skills and infrastrcture
TrevorJD 117 Posted January 5, 2019 (edited) In Ark, foundations and similar structures plus feeding troughs have a 'resource suppression' field that stops all resource respawn inc. animals. The radius is configurable but by default it's about 7 foundations. That size is quite useful because it means you can fence off a largish area, drop a few feeding troughs in the centre and you have an animal pasture that's safe from predators. Ask six people what the radius should be and you'll get eight opinions, of course. The S+ mod added a "land claimer" that prevented animal spawns in a large area. Unfortunately it was used to grief. It wasn't that big and people were hiding it in hard-to-spot areas. Your suggestion isn't terrible but the code for the Ark version is already in the game but not active on official servers for some odd reason. Trees and rocks respawning inside people's bases, through the foundations! Edited January 5, 2019 by TrevorJD
Herasea 59 Posted January 5, 2019 My question has always been, why is "resource suppression" even an thing? Remove it or make the radius the actual foundation so stuff doesn't regrow inside your base and the tax system could work well for solo or small groups if people farm outside their basses. TrevorJD 117 Posted January 6, 2019 It's so when you cut down the trees and rocks between the fence and the side of your house to make a walkway, they don't magically reappear and re-block the space. It's so wild animals don't spawn inside your front garden and eat your pet rabbit. If the suppression was no bigger than the actual foundation, it would mean you'd need to pave the entire area. You need a non-zero radius to be able to fence off a paddock and let your sheep roam free yet and stop wolves from spawning within the paddock. If the radius is only a couple of foundations, it means you need to spam ugly foundations every 30 feet. For players that care about aesthetics, that's undesirable. Having a suppression radius of 7-10 means you can have nice back yard that's also safe.
Liatni 35 Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) I am pretty certain they could adjust how far away resources/wildlife can spawn from both structures and players. Though, since they had that spawning glitch earlier that took them a few days to fix, I don't know what they had to do to fix it. If resources are set to not spawn close nough you end up with permanently stripped land. Far as beasts, they could set them to spawn further but, with the amount of builds, do you want to risk not having any beasts to spawn and tame or gather food from? I do agree maybe just reducing the agro radius would help with a lot of problems, anyway. I am sure they will be juggling with all of that throughout the development.
