Max level only increases for finding the stones ? Not for general exploration of the map ?

You do get experience beyond 50 by exploring locations.  Someone in my last company just hit 52 by exploring and is still trying to hit more spots.  You have to hit all the POI type locations on the islands for it to matter.  Like the waterfalls, ruins, etc.  The ones that give you an explored pop up.

No idea what the final possible level cap is, and I'm sure over the time of EA it will probably go up since that''s what happened with ark as they released new content in the form of skills and craftables therefore needing to expand the level tree.
