    Captain's Log 14: Happy New Year to ye, me hearties!

    Ahoy Pathfinders!

    We'd like to wish all ATLAS Pathfinders a very Happy New Year! It's been a crazy start to our voyage, and it's already filled with so many exciting memories for us here at Grapeshot Games! We've only just explored the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what ATLAS will be and we're excited for the future ahead. As each night passes, ATLAS gets one step closer to becoming one of the most ambitious online worlds of all time and fulfiling its destiny as the ultimate fantasy pirate adventure! Thank you so much for becoming a part of our crew and we can't wait to show all you scallywags, landlubbers, captains, and seadogs what lies ahead!

    Development Update

    We don’t have too much to add this week as the general battleplan is the same, though we’re going to do our best to keep you informed on a regular basis, via Social Media, Discord, and our weekly Captain's Log posts.

    As mentioned in the previous Captain’s Log, our number one priority at the moment is tackling the stability, connection, and data issues, and we promised that we would make significant progress! Over the last few days, we have released a number of critical updates which have improved our server performance tenfold. We have statistically eliminated over 95% of all crashes, and are presently working on further updates to bring that number down even more. As a team, our direction is now shifting onto connection issues, data loss bugs and general balance and gameplay fixes -- as you can see, some of these changes are already underway!

    Patch Notes up to v8.56: 

    Current Version: v8.56
    
    - Anyone can now demolish shipwreck structures to regain resources so get your diving suits ready!
    
    - NPC Trading Ships are back and no longer affected by wild creature destruction commands! Reminder for those with deep pockets, the trader ships have an epic Dragon which can be purchased for 50,000 gold coins

    - Improvements made to joining/rejoining servers, should make it more reliable and eliminate many cases of connection lost/failure to grab server info.

    - Fixed a bug where HUD may not have shown to players in some cases.

    - Further improved server stability.
    - Further reduced Ship of the Damned spawns by 20%
    - Ship of the Damned now are allowed to "Wander" away from shore if they find themselves close to shore
    - Ship of the Damned targeting ranges now are reduced by the type of ship (down to 30% for rafts (which means they will now attack rafts - but you have to get pretty darn close to them!) and 0% for dinghies)
    - -LowMemoryMode now disables the background movies for lighter memory footprint
    - Changed damage type on repair hammer to 0 against players, human npcs, and creatures
    - Ships near shore do not attract cyclones anymore
    - Vultures should now more easily harvest corpses
    - Ships that players are based on do not use staggered updates now (resolving the issue of the choppy spyglass rotation when in the crow's nest, for example)
    - Can no longer weapon-charge or dodge when encumbered.
    - Fixed erroneous reference to chalcedony instead of flint base
    - Added Ingots/Alloys and Organic Paste to the list of resources allowed in the ship repair box
    - Tripled gathering weighting of metal in all the generic rocks for both pick and hatchet damage types
    - Grenades damaged to stone multiplied by 3x
    - Changed Human Crew character carry inv max weight from 1000 to 60.
    - Switched damage weightings around so the pick tool is preferred from metal/crystal/gem/salts and hatchet for wood/coal/stone, etc. No adjustments have been made to yield changes, just tools have been adjusted.
    - Fixed an issue with treasure bottle's spawning (there will now be more of them and more reliably spawned) and increased the quality of loot found in treasures.

    - Further server/networking optimisation to improve server performance and stability. We have effectively eliminated over 95% of our crashes. We'll be continuing to monitor our servers over the coming days ahead and tackle more events. Consequently, we will be turning our primary attention to data transfer issues and connection issues.
    - Reduced Ship of the Damned targeting range by 50%. We're going to look into scaling that based on the type of ship.

    - Further server/networking optimisation to improve server performance, stability, and connection issues.
    - Further tweaks made to Ship of the Damned should no longer wander close to shore, however, they may chase you.
    - Shipyards are now properly tagged on the server side, so enemy players will not be able to demo them unless the decay timer has truly hit 0 on the server.

    Dynamic ATLAS Maps Round-Up

    Pathfinders! It’s week 2 and here’s another round up of the Dynamic Maps! For those who aren’t familiar, The ATLAS Dynamic Maps is a system that monitors live in-game territory ownership and indicates which companies dominate over the lands. 

    Soon, the Companies that have occupied Islands for a certain period of time will gain the automatic privilege to name them on the in-game and web maps, as it is their land! So each week with our Captain’s Log, we’ll be including an image to monitor the progress of the maps, taking note of any exits or new arrivals and any drastic changes in the overall claim. 

    Who will come to dominate the ATLAS may very well become clear in the days and weeks ahead, though maintaining a large Empire will likely come with its own longer-term challenges...

    Remember you can don your tribe’s company flag by stylizing it in the game with a paintbrush! Upload your own images or design it how you like, with the top company flags always being visible on https://map.playatlas.com/

    [EU PVP] The Whale’s Wrath

    Also it seems to me that even though this is a huge map, there is not enough space for this amount of players/claims, there is just a certain percentage of areas where especially  beginners would be able to start a little base - someplace they do not die immediately due to environmental hazards (climate, animals).
    [IDEA] Hey, let us build floating cities on the oceans - how about that? I see lots of free unclaimed places on the sea. :anchor:

    we all know how that would end up. megas would complete wall of sections of the ocean . this is a terrible idea.

    The NA PVE server in I3 atleast is not working i logged on and my boat is sunk for no reason everything is still intact. Harvesting is not working, you can breath under water forever and killing creatures doesnt work. On top of all of that exiting the game and relogging in doesnt fix the issue it just spawns me in the water where my boat was everytime. Im at a freeport where i left our boat over night and today nothing is working. Is this going to be fixed or is there an issue that is being working on at the moment to fix the issue.

    Funny thing is, they said the event boost of 2.5x was until jan 1. So not only they dont give a fuck about us not being able to get in the clusters, they didnt even remove the event, which I wont complain if its still there as compensation for us, but non the less, funny, kinda feels like they were not in their office for at least 48 hours except for the photoshop guys making fancy new year pictures and top hats. 😄

    The fix fixed nothing. My game still hangs at primalgamedata_bp and connection error when selecting another grid to spawn in. This happened after I crossed into a downed grid server yesterday.

    this lack of communication is so bad

    any empathy for people who lost everything in their official servers, any word for people playing the game since days without griefing anyone and loosing levels and even discovery points

    this is an epic fail really and u guys making me upset, no one wih some blue balls in ur company to take some responsabilities and do somethinbg with an ETA, days it happens it was holidays for many of us, pffff

    I already lodged a massive complaint. Yes its EA bt if they dont communicate with players then whatz the point. Ea theh are meant to work with the players not shit all over them4

    Last night During a Bug crash of server my claim on the EU server PVE on Hepmens Island Long 80.54 / Lat 0.19 was able to be claimed witch being there roughly 100 hours nothing like this has happen to us yet due to bugs or explotes or hacks , due to the 12+ hours of the zone and game not loading witch is a bug on your behalf you guys was fixing or main taining has created it where before 3 days is up someone was able to claim our claims. not even a day was up and they was able to steal a claim. Plus i also have a claim that is bugged as well some how our shipyard is claimed with in my claim in same location witch makes no sense so this bug has created it to where you can still claim other peoples claims. So with this said this would be considered a bug report that is a easy fix for you guys it is on your behalf of saying 3 days to steal a claim to let a 72 hour process happen within not even 12-16 hours. If your guys server issue didn't happen none of this would of happen but they created bug reports for this reason and here is a bug that I wish to be corrected. Also someone was online during the time they tried to steal, witch should of also stopped it from happening. Hard to enjoy the patches and future patches with this going on.

    we need wait , i need d3d10 for play , i just have 15 fps max its normal on ark when they lance the game i get 10 fps , now i play ark whit 50/60 fps high settings

    now on Atlas i have 15 max and a just go wait for the d3d10 for win more fps for play , good luck whit the game Dev and i go wait for the best .

    Seems that i´m one of the lucky ones here.

    The game runs much better since a few days ago on my end, Sure, a lot of bugs but a big step forward from the release mess.

    Sometimes i got to verify game data in Steam and or/restart steam, as a work around for some connetion issues or bugs, but i think it is normal in the early weeks of an early access release. I know, you are working your asses off so thank you for that.

    Credit for what? Having to put what little effort they did to continue pulling in money from those early access sales for their days before Christmas launch? Sorry no pity/sympathy/credits earned from me. If they didn't wish to work holidays then they shouldn't have set a launch date days before the holiday. Perhaps they could have gotten the holiday focus behind them and not launched such a turdwagon of bugs and issues had they held off..... but to insist they deserve some sympathy for a poor decision and their willingness to do anything during their immediate post launch is just silly.

    Please do a wipe of the servers. The over-claiming of land not even being used by large groups is out of hand. Also, please add in a Respec item. Level up respecs are nice and all, but the fact that it is so hard to multi-skill is a real pain. Otherwise keep up the good work and keep us all updated on progress 🙂

    a wipe is a bit extreme, removing all claimflags would do the same without destroying too much work. and ark had a respec item that was usable once a lvl. you needed the engram and the items, i like this better

    yea i agree i think the approach they took is a huge step in the right direction (i'll admit i'm biased a bit because it's basically the same idea i posted a few days ago).... I dont think a wipe is needed nor do they need to remove claims. with this adjustment you can basically just contest them and those who have claimed a ton simply wont be able to retain them all. An added expiration timer would have been nice to assist in cleaning up those spam claims but I'm not going to make too many gripes as the latest patch notes really address a LOT of the current gripes with the game.
