I know it must suck having a job like that with no set schedule and I’m guessing you work on commission as well, it’s nice to have the free time but kinda sucks never knowing when your going to be home or gone. I know that trade routes were being established and trade goods were a big part of the game already, we had a couple people who came through our region and I always looked forward to seeing what they had to offer in trade or for sale. I know Breeding was also a big income for a lot of people, which I never got involved with but those players had some of the highest level tames I’d heard of. Some players had left a territory message after the wipe saying their goodbyes to Atlas, I honestly can’t say I blame them. I know more people has quit the game since the mention of the wipe which was expected I guess. I’d say a few more will leave once it happens but what I’m unsure of is how are they planning to bring players back. I mean the scene has been set by a lot of players already and a few may give it another shot but I don’t think we will see 60k again anytime soon. They have a big gaming event coming up soon that they are going to showcase Atlas once more but the issue is with the current ranking on Steam a lot of new players will shy away not wanting to deal with the issues that we are dealing with. I’d say that is the main reason for the wipe, to clean the game up for possible new players after the showcase but if they can’t the ones currently playing to give some decent reviews within a recent time frame then I’m not sure what is going to happen.

Holy shit Boomer, do you even play the game ? 598 post, wow !!! No longer than the game has been out you spent some time in here either complaining or complementing, I’m not sure which but my hat is off to you good sir. Yeah almost 60k at launch down to 8k or less now, that should have sent a message a long time ago to the developers. They should have been working on the content they had instead of working on content to add, in my opinion if you go back through the history of bug reports and take a good look at all of them and the ones that were upvoted the most you may see that the biggest issues were people asking for wipes or new content, no sir not at all, people were tired of griefers, losing tames, snakes glitching through walls and a list of other issues that still exist in the current state. Now the ones left playing the game have dealt with it and endured waiting on fixes to happen. Now all of us who have stayed and are continuing to stay gets a big slap in the face, along with a “ we are not fixing any of your issues but we are going to add some more content, work on the claim system even though it may makes things worse but we thought it may help and Oh yeah before we forget all your progress, your character all the work you’ve done in game.... well we are going to delete that as well “ hope you all have a good day and we hope you enjoyed our livestream.

Did you live on a island or lawless? I was never part of the lawless community and was fortunate enough to have a couple claims that I built on, I said by the lawless areas the other day and my heart sunk. No one should have to live like that, the sad part is since they are doing away with claim flags all areas will be like that. They have been offered so many different solutions to fix the claim flag issue but they feel we are all incompetent and the decision they are going with is one no one else seems to want. Limit claims, change to a subscription based for claims, requires upkeep on flags but damn no one wants them gone

WTH are you talking about ? This is pve, most of us would have loved to be able to destroy the abandoned ships left at out bases and around our islands. Our bases getting leveled ? The only thing that is going to level our bases is the wipe. Wrong forums dude, go back to pvp. My bad this is in general, not pve general, your good go ahead and bitch about us whining

That’s strange bases in mountains, tames in floors, SOTD stuck in one another or partially submerged in the water, oh wait most of that already exist. What is one more issue that needs fixed to deal with. Wiping the servers isn’t fixing the issues, it’s giving people a fresh start to experience it all over again. The wipe is there way of cleaning the servers up, that doesn’t explain why we have to lose character progression, you stated so they get more statistics based on us leveling up again, I call bullshit on that one too, each time you reset your skills you basically leveled up again and they even added or are adding a thing you can purchase at Freeport’s to reset skills. So again that idea is bogus, do you have anything better because right now your reaching?

You all keep bringing up the fact jobs, families and real life keeps us from progressing. Jobs families and real life doesn’t stop us from progressing it just slows us down hence why we don’t want to lose what we’ve got. Some of us have found decent land and built nice bases. We don’t want to lose that because after the wipe there is nothing saying we will be able to find a place to build again. It’s kinda like flipping the scenes around, I’ve been here close to launch and got established and worked to have what I have, others ended up in lawless and complained about not having any place to build and having to deal with a four day timer. After the wipe it’s going to be another rush to grab as much of an area that you can to prevent others from building on it. Foundation spamming is taking the place of flag spamming. Now I know a lot of you say the wipe is necessary and a lot of us say it’s not, we’ve all pointed out that everything they mentioned in the live-stream and patch notes could be added without doing a wipe and to prove my point in the latest patch note it’s stated that they will be implementing some of the upcoming changes that were all supposed to be with the wipe a little at a time over the next few weeks. So again I am asking you to defend your statements about the wipe is needed, tell me what can not be added to the game unless it’s wiped ??????? Don’t say decay timers, that’s already in the game, don’t say removal of claim flags either because the code already exist, if I unclaim a flag it disappears, adding new content? If they can’t add new content without doing a wipe then something is seriously wrong. I know they can’t change the regions up, again that is a joke to, they have everything in the game that can change, the game is hosted on their servers, not our own. They can make changes to it just like someone who owns a unofficial server does, you want 6 islands per grid, sure no problem. So why is the wipe needed again. Is it just to satisfy those who want to see others lose what they have been working on?

Limited claim flags would prevent that as well. Build protection radius around a structure would prevent that also but is the same as a claim flag. How are we going to stop foundation spamming? How do we stop someone from building something that interferes with what we have planned to build. With no sea claims does that mean some one can build in the water and block our ships in ? So many questions that I can’t find any answers to but I guess that’s because wiping the servers are more important than fixing the current issues. They should have at least tried the new mechanics of the claim flags before doing a wipe, at least get a feel for whether the new system is going work make or break the game. Then possibly add new content and do a wipe if it feels like the game is stable and progression can begin.

So you stated you logged 800 hours of game time in Atlas is that correct vs my 400 hours. I would be making the assumption that you acquired a lot amount of gold in that time and could probably afford to buy as much land as you wanted. I however did not accumulate more than a couple thousand gold in 400 hours and I know before you say it, “quit whining about not having gold, go do a treasure map, if you can’t do a couple treasure maps a week then perhaps this game isn’t for you or join a company that can help you do treasure maps for god sake it isn’t that hard” I’d say I nailed that one but the thing is, I want to be able to play the game as I choose to play it, if I don’t want to grind gold or fight ships of the damned then that should be my choice. Why should I not allowed to build a base because I choose not to grind gold all the time ?

I never said that we got one of the 1st commodores, my parents got one for me when I was a kid, it was my 1st pc, what else was out on the market is something I’m not aware of but no add 300 hundred years to that and the 1st month and 7th day then you have my age. We grew up without much but I come from a small town and the great big satellite dish back then was a big thing at the time. I lived down an old dirt road and can remember when our well would run dry and I would have to carry water from a natural spring that was up the road. Not everyone has always lived a lavish lifestyle and it just so happens that I know more about living off the land, hunting and fishing then I do about early access games and server wipes !!! I’ve been gaming online since I was 17 give or take a break due to RL but I’m 43 now, so I have some experience at it. I played dungeons and dragons board game long before it ever came out as a video game.

Yeah but it can’t die, not to a alpha glitching through the wall or falling off a ship as you pass through a region or if it does die it respawns when you do. Just like a companion. That would be cool.

Hey I resent that, my 1st pc was a Commodore 64, so yeah I’ve been gaming for awhile myself. Damn I feel old now, holy shit has it really been that long ago that I started, was Steam even a thing back then ? Atarri was my 1st console as well.

You may be surprised by how much of those hardships you’ve listed that I have actually been through and dealt with, not everyone has a candy coated life and it’s that reason alone those of us who are trying to get them to consider doing a hard save for our characters, tames is so important to us because we have struggled and we have fought to hold onto that which was important to us. Now as far as this thread being toxic, I don’t agree with that at all, not one person here is bashing any individual to the point that it’s become a toxic matter. We are all giving our thoughts behind what we feel is right, if the wipe happens then it happens, if we lose everything and start over then we lose everything and start over. Some of us accept that and some of us are offended by it due to the written policies stated by the developers when early access was released. We all care about the game and all of want to continue playing, I don’t think you will find anyone in these forums who would say otherwise, this is a great community here and I can see it growing massively in scale but this is early access and without people pointing issues out, pointing bugs out, pointing glitches out then the game remains broken. Would you agree ? Now I’m not trying to offend anyone or start a flame war, if I have offended anyone then here is my public announcement that I’m sorry. Now with that being said, hopefully you will continue to share your input without taking what is being said so personally. As far as the person you mentioned pissing on the side of a building that he worked at, well he wasn’t brought up the same way I was and that might have something to do with it. Thank you Archsenex !!! This is my issue, it was never stated that there would be server wipes, there is absolutely nothing they can’t fix which requires a server wipe. They can eliminate claim flags, add decay timers, add upkeep boxes and add more islands all without a server wipe. They can if they choose to work with us instead of against us. I just have a really hard time trying to justify a server wipe, the only reason I can see at all is that it cleans the game up from where they let it get to cluttered from not having the correct measures in place to start with. Furthermore if they would have been listening to the public and addressed the issues of claims and such then it would have saved a lot of the population the game once had. I’m still losing tames as I travel through regions, I’m still having issues with them getting stuck in the floors, I still have issues with cobras glitching through walls, there is so much little tweaks that still need to be made, treasure maps being glitches and not able to do, dying and not able to retrieve your items, there is so much that needs done that a wipe isn’t going to fix. Everything I just mentioned is part of the development that gets resolved with time during a early access game. Adding more content, increasing level cap, adding new creatures and making changes to the UI is normally done after full release. They need to address issues that exist without doing a wipe, if they can’t fix it now then when the full release does happen they will want to wipe the servers again.

Further more why does anyone expect a wipe to happen when they start playing a early access game ? Show me the text that says anything about wiping the servers because it’s a early access game ? Now let me state that wiping a server and develop as the game grows is two different things. So before you throw that out there.

The difference between you and those of us who are against this are we have jobs, families and real life. We can’t log 700 + hours in a little over 2 months time because we have real life to deal with. I play every day and long periods of time on the weekends, I check the forums and such at work because I’m not able to play anytime I want. So in other words where you have the free time to build and play the game in order to log 700+ hours and complete the content that’s already out, the rest of us don’t. So losing what progress we have hurts. And yes before you say it, we signed up for a EA game where we could have waited for the full release but honestly most of us wanted to be part of the game as it grows, not work our asses off for a POS cosmetic item. There was no mention of a wipe anywhere in the EA agreement, in nothing Atlas had posted or anything else, do you really think any of who is against it would be saying anything if we knew it was going to happen ? I know I would have played the game a lot differently and wouldn’t have been so worked up on hearing the news about it. If I had known the wipe was going to happen then I may have waited till the full release because at this point I’ve wasted over 400 hours of my life and have nothing to show for it but these forums where I’ve posted. Right now I’m trying to decide whether to give the game another chance or move on to something else and start building again. You understand that having a family, job and adult responsibilities is not a excuse? I’ve logged well over 400 hours into the game and often said it’s a beautiful frustration. My complaint isn’t that I’ve lost things due to bugs or glitches as the game develops, not at all, I signed on for that when I signed on to play a early access game. I’m not sure why you insist on saying I don’t read the patch notes or watch the live streams, your wrong on that part, up until this last live stream or captains log can you point out anywhere that it says there will be a wipe of the server ? No i didn’t play Ark, I bought it and the expansion but never could get started in it. What does that have to do with anything. Just because some of the developers were involved with both games then that should be a standard for anything they develop? Is that what your saying? What makes you think it has to be the same as it is in Ark ? Yeah I understand that it is a mmo in early access which states that we will be part of the game as it develops, it may or may not change from its current state. That disclaimer says nothing about server wipes and or complete character deletion does it ? Your ok with what is happening then hey that’s great, I’m glad things are going your way. I however am not happy about it and there may be nothing I can do to change it but I can however put my thoughts on the subject in these forums and get feedback from what other people have to say on the matter. Now we don’t know each other or anything about one another but I assure you that I know what my options are and really don’t need someone to basically tell me to shut up and accept it or go play something else, I mean if that is all you have to say on the subject then why say anything at all ? And you And you think removing claim flags is going to fix anything? Please for the love of God quit referring to the game as early access or beta, that is nothing more than a excuse and not a very good one. If you want to try and justify your thoughts then make a point about your claim, non of us here want to keep hearing that it’s a early access or beta and that’s why this is being done. If they had plans to wipe them why let us create characters with names and company ids, why let us build or limit us to gathering, they should have set it up with random name generator and unlimited gathering and experience to see what the servers could handle, not let us deal with all the bugs and exploits and continue to build only to lose it all. All our progress is about to be gone

How do you figure it was necessary to add more content, have you never played any other games? I mean seriously, guild wars added new content ever 6 months and never wiped, look how many expansions world of Warcraft added and they didn’t wipe each time, elder scrolls online kept adding content, they didn’t have to wipe. I call bullshit on anyone that says it was needed to add more content to the game, even if they changed the maps up there is no reason to wipe our characters and companies out as well. They could have simply taken the servers offline for a couple days while they implemented the new changes without having to delete everything we’ve created. They already stated that unofficial wouldn’t be affected other than claim flags disappearing but would reinstate themselves with time. What makes the pve side of official any different? Are they all not part of the same system and built on the same ideas ? It’s not like they are two separate games

Well from the way the stats look towards players base you all will have no problem finding land now, you will not have to worry about sailing a few grids over to find resources or worry about finding areas to find tames, from the way it looks your going to be by yourselves. And as for Simple who stated “ I have an island and 60k of gold and I think the wipe is a good thing. It was never about the land and gold for some of us, it was about what we had done thus far only to lose it, you wouldn’t understand because it’s obvious you didn’t struggle like some of us have.

Yeah I changed my review from a positive back to a negative, they were finally moving in the right direction and the new claim system was beginning to work all they needed to do was tweak it some more, implement claim limiting and the land issues would have been fixed, they could have still implemented the decay process to rid the game of abandoned ships and structures and they could have still added more areas per region without causing the dedicated players they had/have to lose everything

Danny if you lived on lawless it’s because you chose to, I started the game Jan. 2nd, I work as a welder, I have a wife and 4 kids. I started out in a Freeport like everyone else, I found claims in H5 and lost them because deleted my character and remade him, when I done that it messed the company I.D up and asking for help through support was a waste of time, so I continued searching and found more claims, I spent time building bases and taming pens and looking for more land, the vultures there finally drove me away and I loaded my ship up with food, weapons and good intentions then set sail. I found another area in F3 and setup there, went back to H5 loaded my other ship up and unclaimed everything I had there and set out for my new region. Once there I setup again and went looking for more claims, I found land and gave it to people who were having issues to find land themselves, these weren’t people I knew or had previously met in game, it was random people who posted in the forums and if you’ve read any of my post you’ll see that I had even acquired more and was getting ready to help out even more people. The only ones who wanted this wipe were in my opinion people who were to lazy to look for land themselves, it had nothing to do with time but more so with patience, people who had land but wanted a area that someone else owns, that type of person is just envious of what someone else has. They either wanted the region with less hostile creatures or a better lay of land to build on and people who for some unknown reason to be just wanted to see everyone lose all the things they’ve built and created. This type of game requires patience to build ships and bases, to find land and create a home away from home. Now people who have played the game and helped figure out all the bugs and exploits the game had but continued to keep pushing forward and working with what they had just got a big slap in the face and a stamp across the forehead saying @@@@ you for all you’ve helped us figure out, for all the time you’ve invested in helping us find the things we thought would work but didn’t we are going to take everything from you, your name, your company, your tames, your ships, your homes and give you a @@@@@@ cosmetic item that has no real benefit but says you endured through the start and we @@@@@@ you!!!! Now if this was real world would you still be content with someone doing this to you, if you say no but this is a game, then you have no right to say anything about exploits or griefers or anything else that makes the game not fun because it after all is “Just a Game” Danny I also think you are getting pvp and pve crossed up.

Some are of you are really hopeful and keep saying over and over that they will make it easier the first few weeks back to rebuild everything, I want you to think about something, they added 2x almost every weekend since launch and people took advantage of it building massive cities and forts in order to enjoy the claims they were able to acquire. Now there is nothing to stop an island from looking like a housing development. If you like living in that scenario as to where you have nothing but a room with a view of another house then that’s great. I personally owned two claims and built a nice home, taming pen, barn and a nice dock using 4 shipyards as a foundation. I had one of each ship and I hired crew to man the sails and maintain repairs. Acquired tames to help with treasure maps and I was comfortable living on just 2 claims. If you looked at a claim flag of mine it said I had 4 claims. Two were on land to build on, two were in the water to keep someone from building pillars underneath my ships and one was out in front of those 4 in the sea to allow me access to build the large docking area that I had imagined. There is nothing in the new patch that allows me to do that again, there is nothing that keeps everyone from building in the tropics on any open space they can find, nothing to say hey you may have obtained the land but I’m gonna build here in the water so you can’t have a shipyard and you’ll get mad and leave the area or quit the game. You won’t be able to run to the devs crying about being blocked in because there is nothing that says someone can’t, they stated in the live stream they hoped everyone would be able to work together and get along. Yeah that has went really well so far in the game. All they had to do was limit the amount of claims a person could own per account, they could have still made the maps larger and added more islands, if someone wanted to move but was out of claim flags then that person would have had to unclaim an area in order to claim something else. When an area was unclaimed there would have been a 24 hour window until everything was decayed, that window allowed another player to take the claim and take over where the previous owner left off.
