  1. Your opinion is based on poorly thought out logic though; it isn't an opinion even worth considering. Think it through, and then come back. Until then, save your pointless opinion.
  2. Please stfu, you wouldn't care if it wasn't in the game. it adds nothing. It is just pointless fluff. People who like the age mechanic just haven't thought it through properly. The FOY is a huge reason the age mechanic sucks; the only way to fix that is to make accessing the fountain easier. You make accessing the fountain easier, it makes the age mechanic POINTLESS. Understand? The age mechanic must come with a difficult FOY, because if it did not, an age mechanic wouldn't matter. I'm tired of stupid people making no argument helping keep this stupid non-mechanic in the game. Think it through, and you'll realize it isn't worth having. Therefore? The age mechanic is unneeded. It adds nothing. It only takes away from the game.
  3. Which can be done WITHOUT an age mechanic. Why ruin other aspects of the game when they could just have it so your character is deleted if you're inactive for a year, or whatever time they want? There is no good reason.
  4. People who claim they like the age mechanic wouldn't care if it were not in the game; yet many many players DO care that it ruins the game, and have quit over it. I'm tired of having to make threads on this stupid pointless mechanic; for the love of god scrap it already.
  5. You raise an excellent point, nobody bought this game wanting to deal with age, they bought it for pirating. What does this stupid mechanic bring to the core of the game, the core of the game being pirating? It brings nothing. Therefore.. Why is it in the game?
  6. Explain why you like it. I get the feeling you're one of those suckers who has been tricked into thinking it is "innovative", when it is actually the opposite. It is regressive to more areas of the game than it is innovative to others. It is a poor mechanic, and in the big picture makes the game significantly worse.
  7. It is still a bad addition.. It still puts new players in a timelocked inferior position until a certain amount of time passes for no real reason. No. Let me guess... You have no reason to like the age mechanic, but you want it in the game anyway? A bumpmap that progresses over time, which ends in a debuff. Yes, we clearly need this. I'd rather have optional cosmetics over having my character be forced to look a way I don't want them to look. And i'd rather not have a mechanic that only makes the game worse. You've probably tricked yourself into thinking it is because it is "difficult". The difficulty was never the issue; it is the mechanic itself, and the things it ruins in the game that I do not like. Are you trying to kill the game?.. You think people want their characters held at gunpoint to do this trash quest?... Get a grip dude; you're not looking at the big picture. Game takes a nosedive after FOY, this guy thinks it is fine as is.. Wake up,
  8. I'd rather they just take it out.. There is nothing about replacing my character, or running for a fountain just to avoid a debuff that sounds enjoyable to me. Vitamins? Fine. Easily dealt with, and not so intrusive. Age mechanic? Ruins cosmetics, is a massive hassle.. I see nothing about it I like. Err? It is an age mechanic complaint ?....
  9. The buff in itself is bad design, it just alienates newer players. You think any new player is going to want to play a year down the line when everyone has +50% on all stats?
  10. What makes the fountain of youth so disgusting isn't so much that you have to do a ridiculous naked run through a bunch of aimbot op trash.. Although It is pretty horrific.. It is knowing you have to do that run EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. FOREVER. As long as you play this game, you will HAVE to go and do that trash.. Why? Because NO ONE is going to tolerate that debuff… It weighs on your mind as you play the game, looking at your age, seeing this impending BS coming up that you know you just don't want to have to deal with. Take this pointless trash out of the game already! It adds NOTHING. Your game took a nosedive in numbers on the release of the FOY.. You MUST remove the age mechanic or make the fountain easily accessible.. People don't want to have to deal with this; it isn't fun. And no, this isn't about "difficulty" or "carebear".. I like difficulty if the stakes are right, and it isn't faux difficulty.. Difficulty that punishes you for no mistake of your own. Massive numbers of Immortal flame golems aimbotting you with homing missiles is just a joke. I challenge anyone to tell me how the age mechanic adds to the game more than it takes away; tell me how it makes the game good.. You'll find there isn't anything it adds, nothing that improves the game in any meaningful way. It adds nothing to the core of the game; it just makes me want to quit even thinking about it.. Oh, and you're not fooling anyone trying to mask your game being discounted in price as some celebration of year of the pig. You and I know it was just to temporarily get the numbers up. Your game is dying, and a big part of it is because of FOY and the age mechanic being pointless hassle. Scrap it and save your game. We all know you only kept the FOY in the game because you know that if the FOY were made easy to access, the whole age mechanic becomes pointless. So you've left this trash in the state it is in, because you're so desperate to crowbar this mechanic, to make it mean something.. And in turn, you ruin your game in the process because you can't look at the bigger picture.
  11. The main issues are really the aimbot, and the damage output. Even if it hits, it shouldn't be killing anyone in a single hit in plate.. A quarter? Maybe.. But I should be able to dodge it too if I see it coming. As it is right now.. You can't evade it, and you can't survive it. I'd rather they just remove putting NPCs on carts for now, since this is so game breaking and needs an indepth rework.
  12. I can't believe you actually did this .. Way to ruin all PVP in the game. Get a mount that pulls a cart, stick a swivel turret on it, put on an NPC.. You now have something that can oneshot aimbot you from 180 degrees at a sizable distance, that is basically impossible to kill due to insane defense and mobility and hp regen... Great game design guys.. Very smart... Jesus. The massive list of reasons this breaks the game : 1. NPCs are aimbot Guys.. You can't have NPCs aiming better than players.. 100% accuracy every time, with a gun that kills in a SINGLE HIT through PLATE.....PLATE! Now all you've got is a bunch of fake PVPers riding around aimbotting everyone with their NPCs. So stupid. 2. There is nothing to stop the cart moving You've given us NO WAY to stop these carts moving. Are you stupid or something? You don't put something in the game with NO COUNTER.. You're basically forcing people to use this noskill anti-pvp method.. And it is anti-pvp because the NPC is doing all the killing. 3. NPCs have too much defense/hp. I remember I was shooting an NPC in plate with a flintlock, and it did 6 damage... 6. Why is this so much higher than say...A player's defense?.. You can't have these near immortal gods mounted on these turrets, whilst also give them aimbot accuracy. It now removes sniping them off the back as an option. IF you can even hit them moving at that speed. You've basically provided NO real options to deal with this trash.. It is embarrassingly bad game design. To kill that NPC, i'd probably need to hit it with 15 flintlock shots... 15.. Meanwhile, it can insta-kill me from miles away with something that is supposed to be a shotgun spread. 4. They move too fast. Have you tried shooting someone off a moving horse; I mean, this is your only option; and you're not going to be able kill them in one, because they'll be wearing plate.. So what is the problem here? You shoot at them, they have the mobility to just get in cover easily, assess the situation, and then charge out and use the aimbot.. All the while you're taking half an hour to reload. 5. NPC/tames regenerate like wolverine Can't kill the mounts because they take too many hits, and regenerate health. Can't kill the aimbot NPC for pretty much the same reason. Your only viable option is to shoot the person off the mount; however that doesn't work either because of their mobility. There is no permanence to the damage you put on them, so you can't even whittle them down.. No. You can do NOTHING. 6. Too much range. Guys.. It ONE SHOT AIMBOTS. You can't have it hit for fking MILES. What are you thinking.. Literally, 180 degrees from the back of the cart is a deadzone for a significant distance.. It is just the most tactless tripe I've ever seen. Fakest PVP ever. 7. Too much damage It one shots in full plate.. Need I say more? 8. Too much mobility They can do everything whilst going at full speed.. You'd think moving at such a high speed you impact the accuracy of someone trying to aim.. But no, not the aimbot NPCs. This is just killing the game.. As if they didn't have enough stuff killing the game, you now have this.. === In conclusion.. You can't hit them, even if you did you can't kill them, you can't defend against them; and you can't stop them. What you have here is something so broken, that the only counter is to use It yourself.. I ask : Where is the weakness?... Where is the counter?... It does EVERYTHING well. You've just added a complete noskill way to win pvp.. You don't even have to aim. Remove swivels from mounts until you figure something out. Or atleast don't let them move and fire at the same time. You outright gimped explosive barrels which were significantly MORE balanced than this trash.. I expect to see swift action for something this broken.. But I bet I never see it.
  13. The should stay away from words like "best" and "top"; instead option for "most". "Top" and "best" assume too much; and are essentially opinion.. For example.. Is someone really the "best" if they have someone else build ships for them to sink, and then this equates to them being regarded as "best"?
  14. Looks like this one has the fanboys all riled up. The people trying to imply these graphs mean nothing are embarrassingly in denial.
  15. The game is as challenging as you want it to be. It has PVP. You want more chores, chores are not challenging, they're boring. And guess what? You don't speak for the majority. You don't know what they're thinking. Also, responses don't equate to what the majority think you utter potato head. All you're trying to do is salvage that pathetic attempt of an argument. Oh, and glancing down the thread, more people are in agreement with the majority of what I said. .So even there you've failed. Chores are not hardcore, hardcore is hardcore. Please l2p before actually even arguing with me. If the devs listen to morons like this, we'll basically be playing a dish washing simulator all day. Wooowww, So hardcore!
  16. You're just not thinking about what you're saying. You're actually opting not for difficulty, but for chores. Chores aren't difficult, they're just obstructions preventing you from doing what you want to do. Like, imagine if you had to make pancakes whilst simultaneously playing dark souls, that was the only way you could play the game. Is that fun? Or is the game spoiled? The game is clearly spoiled. I like difficulty if is is done right. What you're suggesting is the fools way of adding difficulty. aka Fake difficulty. Or are you trying to show off by stating how "hardcore" you are, and how "carebear" everyone else is? Why not just play with a blindfold then? Think how cool you'll look then... Think for goodness sake. You're probably more of a carebear than I am; you just don't know what actual hardcore is.
  17. It has PVP, the base game is as easy as whoever you're against. Make the mechanics harsher, and all you'll do is annoy people. It isn't really a problem because it is "difficult" it is just more chores in the way of doing what people actually want to do. It is hassle, not difficulty. Like, why not keep going? Why don't we make it so our characters have to brush their teeth, and comb their hair? Take a shower? Do they make the game better, or is It just more chaff blocking the player from doing what they want? As I've always said, the game is broken up into two parts : 1. Stuff you do to do they stuff you want to do 2. Stuff you want to do. You have to balance the two correctly, or you'll kill the game. Too much stuff you do to do what you actually want to do, and you'll make the game feel like too much of a job. Make it so you get too much stuff you want to do, nothing feels special, and there are no consequences.
  18. Right, why would I want to do that when I can just keep my character and proceed onwards?... Infact.. What is the point of the age mechanic when you look at the core of what the game is? It has none. It is just fluff tacked on, and the game only gets more limited with it implemented. The vitamin system is also fluff, except it is less obnoxious because it doesn't require you to travel hour for a CHANCE at doing endless naked death runs into a cave. If you want something that isn't a carebear fest, just play pvp in a small company against big companies. People who say the game is carebear I can usually tell play in huge companies. People who play in huge companies don't have to work, or do anything much; they're the worst players on the game because they play the game on easymode essentially.. They feel no real loss because to make a galleon, one each member need only swing their pick a handful of times to achieve it. It is really not the way the game should be played.. But some people can't handle the challenge.
  19. Age is done, your character ages, therefore it is done. The only part that isn't done is death. And as I've already stated, the majority of people don't want to have to keep making new characters. It is a part of the whole cycle however, and part of the problem. If they want a solid playerbase, they're going to have to drop it. There have already been polls on it, and the vast majority hate it. There is a difference between difficulty and faux difficulty. Real difficulty is where your loss is a fault of your own; fake difficulty is where there is nothing that can be done to prepare. The FOY is an example of fake difficulty. Unless you want to strongarm people into large groups, which it is commonly stated people do NOT want to have to do. People naively drop the word "carebear" without taking these things into consideration. You don't just pile on difficulty endlessly, and that makes the game good. No. Example : if every time you died in game, you had to chop off one of your fingers in real life; thus making the punishment pretty severe. Is that good design? Endlessly escalating difficult is idiotic, and is not the aim of what this game should be.
  20. I've realized the broader problem with Atlas.. They've lost sight of the core concept, and are instead trying to do too much, and it is dragging the game down. They need to sit down, and think about cutting certain things out of the game that weigh it down. When thinking of Atlas, The term "keep it simple stupid" comes to mind. Or the term "don't overcomplicated the simple, or simplify the complex". Let me list a few areas where the game has been damaged by overcomplication; where simplicity would make a superior overall experience. 1. Vitamins Why oh why of all things would you make food and water a more complex system? It is almost like you needed a reason to have the cooking tree in the game. Once again, I find myself time and time again telling the devs to STOP crowbarring things in the game that it doesn't need for the sake of appearing more expansive, and/or innovative. This should be as simple as eat food, and drink water.. But no. For some reason, they had to make what was already a bothersome chore even worse. Stop it. It essentially boils down to an annoying little side minigame you have to constantly manage. It isn't fun, it is just annoying. Keep it simple; food and water is enough. If you want to keep cooking, fine, just put some interesting buffs on the food you can make. 2. Melee If one thing has suffered more than any from overcomplication, it is undoubtedly melee. Infact, this system isn't only poor in it's over complication, but it's implementation too. The way your player's movement has been tied to the attacks simply makes it unworkable. Running is good enough to counter essentially all melee unless you get that overpowered ability that bola's people in place... Look at ark.. Sure, maybe it was a little too simple, but it worked. You run up and you hit them, easy. Atlas..? It is a mess. I would say somewhere between Ark's melee, and Atlas's melee is the right spot... Less complex than atlas, more complex than Ark. Also, the blackjack doesn't knock people out; please fix. 3. Age The game doesn't need it. I've already covered this in several threads, and I think this mechanic in particular is the one most in need of cutting. It just annoys people who want their character to look the way they want, it annoys people who want to keep playing one character, it annoys people who don't have much time to play.. All of these things and more (lest I mention the FOY) for what? A texture that makes your character uglier, and a debuff… Is it worth it? Really? You think people want to deal with that in a video game? Maybe on a hardcore server.. But on the normal servers? You're talking crazy. I think this is probably one of the biggest factors for numbers dropping in honesty. It needs to go. 4. Construction Overly excessive crafting requirements; aka, the stone wall incident. Making finicky annoying requirements to make something you're going to craft in abundance is just going to annoy people. Am I saying all crafting should be simplified? No. I'm saying things that you're going to need to keep replacing, and you're going to need a lot of should be toned down; UNLESS they're extremely high in utility. Like say, a mythic carbine or something. Stone walls are the perfect example of this. 5. Claims Why not just let companies build wherever they want, but implement a structure limit to counter pillar spam? This would help make servers more stable too. Save claiming for ships. ---- An example of complexity done right?.. The way instruments work. Perhaps they need to alter the buff timers a little, aside from that; the way instruments work is more complex in all the right ways. Complex where complexity is needed. I felt it important to demonstrate where it was handled correctly for referral's sake. I could go on to list areas of detrimental overcomplication, but for now take this handful which I find to be the biggest offenders.
  21. You must be in a larger company if you think that. The real issue is cannons.. They work defensively and offensively. They are far, FAR too cheap.. As is their ammunition. What.. Like, two large cannon balls to sink a ship? That is like 10 mins works vs hours.
  22. Right, but the issue there is obvious. There is a serious problem with how offense and defense are balanced in this game. Take a ship for example.. How long do they take for someone to build by hand? Quite a while. Now take a single cannon, and some cannon balls... You see where i'm coming from, right? It is either too expensive to make defenses, or it is too cheap to make offense.
  23. I'm not saying "don't PVP", i'm saying it is stupid to attack everyone who goes near your building. Especially on a game where it is so easy to destroy anyone. These people are probably thinking they're safer with cannons on autofire, but the exact opposite is true. If someone loses a ship to an autocannon, do you think they're going to let that lie, or do you think they'll want revenge.. If I know humans, i'd say they'll go for revenge.
