  1. Perfect post ! I would love to see your suggestion in the game, also noted the wrong orientation for non-square sails, its driving me mad x).
  2. I'm playing on PvP and maybe there's something I don't know... actually there are tons of things for sure I don't know, and among them I don't know any way that we have on PvP to get gold that you wouldn't have on PvE and I don't really see any reason for them to implement another source of gold....
  3. Haha yes of course no manual counting of the knots ! x) There could be an animation of the player doing it but a number should show up at the end to indicate the speed :). I was just describing that to show that it would fit the style of the game just like so many other elements, compass, spyglass, sextant...
  4. This is my suggestion about weight griefing : 1. In freeports, sinking a ship instantly destroys it and all attached containers (just like our bodies when we die), no salvaging possible no looting, removing the incentive to do that... 2. Outside freeports just implement a basic offline raid prevention to buildings, claims, animals, and all anchored ships ! This would solve almost all weight griefing in a very simple way and add that offline raid prevention without which players are forced to be around H24 !
  5. As of now I don't know any way to know at what speed I am currently sailing. That is kind of disappointing because we can't really estimate benefits of different types of rigging in different situations of wind direction and freight... An addition that I would find very nice and that would fit the style of Atlas very well would be a craftable item "knotted rope" or something like that, that you would be able to drop behind your ship to well, count the knots at which it drifts away behind to get your actual speed in knots as it used to be done... That would allow us to get some kind of measure of our speed and adjust riggings to our needs.
  6. I get that with v.10 patch that problem will shrink a little bit, but land that will become constructible because of neutral claims still is not equivalent to owning a bit of land... On PVP it allows to maybe have some protection from the company owning the claim, for PVE they just get to pay taxes for no reason but the fact someone was faster at game launch... My suggestion would be like in many other games to have a company leveling system. When a new server launches every company would have 1 claim flag initially and would be able to get more with company levels... Imagine a system where you would level up number of claim flags, number of beds, amount of tamed animals / fleet etc.. There's a lot of different things that could be tied to company level, my point here is however specific to claim flags. That way initial claiming of massive amounts of land on game launch would not be possible. Solos or small companies wouldn't even need to up the number of claim flags a lot to suit their needs, bigger companies would eventually get the company level they need to have enough flags but they'll get to that point over time as they grow !
  7. What does everyone think about that part of the current update ? To me this is really game breaking ! Sailing is one the best parts of this game, knowing how to sail and using sailing mechanics properly is very important in ship battles and can be the main reason of the outcome of a fight. Agreed maybe there should be some in game hint about how to properly setup the sails but please revert this change. It was already silly enough on rafts to go forward when sail is turned back 180° in wind direction. Keep sailing knowledge as important as it should be, this update is making everything way to easy ! However let me stress that overall there has been a lot of steps in the right direction on other subjects.
  8. I agree with Mndfreeze on this, clearly the mechanic is not fully in game right now and there's no point in judging what we know almost nothing of. I like the fact characters are aging, I like the fact that we'll have to play our own progeny at some point. I hope that it is going to imply more than just a cosmetic reset of the character though. I'd like to have the possibility to switch gender for example play your daughter when your first char was a male etc... I hope its going to be more thought off than just keep levels and skills and reset appearance. I might be a bit alone there among people who feel entitled to everything but I wouldn't mind a level reset as you're supposed to find a crew, a company etc while playing and once you have some base, ships and all running, leveling a character back is nowhere as difficult as getting your first character started solo... But that's all speculation, I hope they are going to surprise us in a good way, an original way ! We're playing their game after all, its their vision of their game that counts, take it or leave it. I hope they won't betray their own game to please some groups of players.
  9. I am totally against any kind of WoW style auction house, this game is based on actual sailing/travelling and should encourage actual transportation and protection of ressources, supply routes etc... But allowing people to trade materials for gold or other materials would be pretty interesting as long as it involves heading to the building where supplier is selling his materials, that kind of building could be land based with for example carriage routes or based on the shore with a building belonging to a harbour for example. It would be pretty awesome to load and unload tons of materials from one harbour to another and chose between pirate life or just merchant... Trade routes would obviously become possible interesting pvp targets encouraging piracy at the same time, giving much more sense to the whole game.
  10. Currently the anchor on ships is way too short considering the steep slopes of the ground under the sea, forcing ships to almost strand before they get a chance to anchor on many locations. Please make those anchors a bit longer, rowboats would be more useful if ships could anchor farther away from the coast. Another suggestion would be to add tethers to be able to actually build what would be an actual harbour with docks. You could tether your ship to the dock and that would act as an anchor. Plus it would make the game look more real as ships do not use anchors when docked...
  11. When you leave a ship in freeport (lets not consider the fact that with current decay it might be a bad idea), if you have the server manage the number of instances dynamically what happens when your instance you are currently in disappears and you get moved to another instance with possibly a ship on the exact same coordinates ? I think lawless zones should be a fix for game launch until the time freeports are less crowded and then those areas should return to normal non-freeport claimable areas. Maybe claiming flaws should be addressed but that is another issue.
