It’s time for a reality check

The Devs made it. They defined the rules. As they took the previous game and used what they had to cash on this new game. The new game is pretty good because its islands and pirates and not taming based and no c4 cheese and more balanced.

Now they are turning the rules upside down. Fine. I'll try it, but its not ideal. The pvp servers are being turned into half pve.

You will still be raided if you can't defend your base.

I would argue that it is more sandbox than theme park. They may put more theme park elements into it going forward, but at the moment it is definately not theme park. There are no linear quests or other hallmarks of theme park MMO's. There are two things that muddy the waters a good bit here. One is how early in Atlas's development cycle we still are, as theme park elements can certainly be added going forward. Another is the fact they are calling Atlas a survival MMO, which is a thing that has never been done before, so it could be argued that Atlas doesn't really fit into any pre existing categories very well. Ultimately what matters most is that what they have attempted to offer has met a decidedly negative response from the gaming community overall. Perhaps the fact the game does not easily fit into traditional genre categories is one of the things people fundamentally don't like about it. I have seen calls on these boards for changes that would make Atlas more theme park oriented, and I have seen calls for changes that would make it more sandbox. Sometimes when you make a thing no one has ever made before, you come up with a new thing people didn't even know they wanted til you made it. Sometimes you come up with a thing nobody wants.

So far Atlas seems to be the latter rather than the former.

At the same time lack of content doesn’t mean sandbox. Kind of like how you said it’s an mmo. The thing is it isn’t really design to be one functionally.

I think it is meant to be a theme park but they just released it way too early. I also think it is meant to be an mmo they haven’t seemed to make it possible.

2 years from now if they actually get it right it will be both an mmo and a theme park. IF they can make things work

Them defining the rules is why the game is in such bad shape.

Well said Bandit. It seems a lot of folks on here are under the illusion that adding these PVE protections will somehow give them a fighting chance against the mega tribes. I pity them because they are in for a rough surprise. They will be little more then sitting ducks unable to go on the offensive due to a combination of expensive war tokens and inability to have the element of surprise coupled with superior enemy numbers.

This means they will lose every time, they don't stand a chance. Instead they will be holed up in their base waiting to die and when it comes it sure will be fast.

Sounds good. The game will fail even faster. Thank you for playing your part

Just pointing out the obvious. In any case its only this new mode that will fail hard. The original mode that the game was designed around will remain as popular as ever.

Ah you mean with the 8k people that were playing. Doesn’t sound that popular to me lol.

and no the whole game is going, not the mode.

Also the devs have already stated there is going to be a hardcore mode without any rules, and hand holding ie true PVP mode. They will also be offering a care bear mode which I am sure you will eagerly take up.

Oh and about those mega tribes yep they will definitely exist even in the PVP Lite server. They will just split up into multiple companies to over come the player limit. Enjoy 🙂

As it stands, Reddit reports that the Megas don't want the "hardcore" mode.  They are all going Colonies.

Looks like you will have to actually...you know...PvP.  No more PvO for you.
