Do sail bonuses stack?

Recommended Posts

1 normal speed sail is 100% of that individual speed sail.

6 normal speed sails on a ship is 100% speed of 6 speed sails (100%+100%+100%+100%+100%+100%)/6

5 normal speed sails and 1 speed sail of 104% is:

(100%+100%+100%+100%+100+104%)/6

100.67% speed

If 5 are 104:

(100+104+104+104+104+104)/6

103.3%

So it takes the average of all sails and applies that to total bonus...?

And is this confirmed or speculation?

It takes the average of the sails, yes.

The other way would allow for ships twice the speed and beyond...

Definitely not that way.... If you have 6 sails at 106% each sail is working 6% better. So essentially, in a way, it does stack.

I think you are right and wrong.

The speed bonuses are averaged out like that but it is based on the total number of sail units vs the max sail units.  And then averaged out... but I have yet to test it.  I do know it does not stack.

So a ship with a 102% speed sail and a 108% speed sail wont be 110% faster.

nope, it will be at 105 %.

If you only have 2 sails:

cause : (102+108)/2 =105 %

Exactly.

But I think the only time this really changes is if they are two different sized sails.  Like a large and a small.  Then you have to factor in which sail is providing the most wind force.
