How do you access the Shipyard crafting menu?

I'm on XB1.

When I'm near my shipyard, the Help text says to place required resources into the Shipyard and construct the ships ribbing from its  crafting menu. 

When I go into the shipyard inventory I don't see a crafting area.

How do I access it?

And can you construct the planks from there or do you have to use the Smithy for those?

FYI.

I've already built the Schooner frame, so I don't know if that determines if you see the shipyard crafting menu.

All the wood pieces are crafted at the smithy.  Shipyard is to toss material in to decide which ship you buy when you unlock the path of the skill tree for each ship.  Then after all that at smithy for the boat pieces.  Then you need the Loom for sails and rope ladders.
