I disagree with the post completely!

There is nothing wrong with realistic sailing in a game about sailing....  The Problem is NOT the variable wind the Problem is the ability for

Galleons (Aka 1st Rates, they are not really galleons) being able to have as much positive momentum as a Sloop or Schooner!  Its just completely un-realistic!

No or low wind should stop a Galleon Dead in its tracks like .5 Knots or less dead in its tracks!

And the Brig's with there three speed sails(Square sails), they too should stop dead in there tracks like 1-1.5 Knots or less....

Schooners and Sloops with Lanteen Sails (Maneuvering Sails) should be able to reach 3-6 Knots assuming they are not overweight!

^^^^  This would be realistic and it would help solve one of the glaring issues in the game with the biggest ship always being the best ship "LUNACY"

First rates were NOT CARGO ships people!  They were "man of wars" and there Cargo was Cannons!

And Wind was there mortal enemy!  The Santisima the largest 1st rate to even sail went to davy jones locker because it was trapped in it and useless.

Fortunately games are not realistic.  This is not a sailing simulator!

  2. Well besides the 2 posters trying to bait everyone into their faux political worlds the timers are good just the way they are.

its a video game for gods sake!

if you cannot play during the set timer amount that is not the developers fault and asking them to cater to each individual countries vacation rules is ridiculous!

ark was one island suitable for single player experience ,what are solo single players going to do with 255 grids ? let me tell u they are going to sit on one island and teleport around to others if they need resources , or spawn it in NO SINGLE SOLO PLAYER IS GOING TO SAIL MORE THAN 1 OR 2 GRIDS,   until they get bored , so they are going to play mini ark  with less tames and less to do ....

Not sure where that assumption would come from but that is the whole point of single player!

People don’t always have time to sail across 10 grids and then sail back.  Those of us with jobs realize that we will be able to explore all regions and simply log off when real life calls.

ARk has single player, conan exiles has single player,ESO you can solo ,No mans sky has a single player,Dark and light,Outlaws of the old west, citadel forged with fire has sp,I don't see why all you hard core atlas pvp'ers are complaining yet again. You don't see the point in solo or small group players on the servers anyway and this way you get to see them gone.I agree that having the whole map is pretty damn ludicrous in sp mode though,It seems they are trying an easier option than creating an entire sp map that stands alone, maybe by us playing on a ghosted server similar to the way events are done in some games, like your solo base in WOW.But however they do it the whole map idea is just a plain waste of effort. And you are right that  in trying to please everyone all they have succeeded in so far is making the game grindier, especially for small groups and solo players,so maybe single player mode is a good option for a lot of players.

Not a waste of effort at all.

The mod community will take hold of this and add things that will speed travel across the map, etc.

As you already know Ark resulted in some of the most outstanding mods from the community that they started to give awards!

  5. I think OP is talking about mega companies that use multiple alts to takeover other islands besides the one they are on.

the Megas don’t actually play that alt it’s only used for pure numbers which on that case it’s not a cheat but a possible exploit!

This is what I was hoping for from the very beginning, but they're going to have to invest more in the pve content side of things if they want to keep it interesting. And they definitely need to hire some AI guys.

I'm not gonna lie though, I definitely like the idea. Being able to adjust the settings that I don't like, not having to worry about wipes or trolling behavior from neighbors that don't know how to act has a lot of appeal to me.

Completely agree!  Single player allows us to test out build, skills, ship setups and identify bugs easier without worrying about resources.

it helps build a stronger modding community as well.
