  1. Logic does not derive from emotion.  Otherwise geometric proofs would be based on emotion.  However, decision-making is in fact based on emotion, as demonstrated in a ground-breaking study by Antonio Damasio of people who were brain damaged in their emotional centers.  Without emotion as a tipping point, they were unable to make decisions.  Adfax's response is basically emotional without the weight of a legit study to back him up.  He may be correct that most players detest the age mechanic.  The question is, how could you prove that and would it really push the devs to tweak or remove it?

Anyone who likes the age mechanic, and likes the FOY isn't considering the impact on the majority. If the majority do not like it, then there will be no game to play if it is left as is.

I'm curious how you managed to canvass "the majority" of  the players.  Without an actual study, this is speculation at best, but is more likely to be emotional bias.  If you can produce well done proofs  that "the majority" of players don't like it, the devs will be far more likely to take it under advisement.  Until that happens, they'll probably think you sound more like a wet cat in a paper bag.

  3. Mind you, I didn't say I liked it.  I don't.  It's a forced quest.  Not only is it tiresome, but it leads to other breaking points in the game, as I mentioned above.  So from a player perspective it's vastly sucky.   That's probably why they allow private servers to option out.  If you don't like the dynamic, you find a private server with the aging function turned off.  But since this is the official beta server it sorely needs a housekeeping function, and this is one way Grapeshot can clear the docks, er, decks, for new players and fresh perspectives.  They're NOT doing this for us, they're doing it to help them manage their development.

Bottomline: keep giving them feedback.  Make it constructive even if you need to let them know how frustrated you are.  I am too.  But it's beta and until someone comes up with a better housekeeping function (one of many they have here, and hopefully not the last), we're stuck with it.  Onward, Adfax.  I hear ya and I feel the same frustration.

I challenge anyone to tell me how the age mechanic adds to the game more than it takes away; tell me how it makes the game good.. You'll find there isn't anything it adds, nothing that improves the game in any meaningful way. It adds nothing to the core of the game; it just makes me want to quit even thinking about it..

Which is exactly what it's supposed to do.  Think of it this way:  it helps the developers shed players the way your colon sheds epithelial cells.  It helps refresh the player base by encouraging player turnover and is thus essential to maintaining optimal playerbase health.  HOWEVER, it adds to the problem of abandoned ships of all kinds littering the shores and preventing the new players from even getting close to shore to claim available land.  The only ones who can do it are the ones already there, so in a way the FoY mechanic is in reality an ouroboros, eating its own tail.  Devs, you guys need to think this through and fix it as soon as possible.  The necrosis in game's player base is due to these dynamics and only YOU can change them.

  5. RHINO TAMING UPDATE:  The gentlemen above were correct.  We confirmed tonight that the primo way to feed the rhino is through the belly.  Thank you for the great tip!  My apologies to the devs, with the caveat that they don't tamper with this.  For now, it works, and it makes taming a rewarding effort rather than the infuriating debacle I experienced last night.  <wipes off skewer and slides it back into the knife drawer with relief>

  6. Will have to try the stomach, but attempting to tame last night was an exercise in futility.   Getting it bola'd is not difficult.  Can use a ranged weapon if a mace won't work.

Getting close enough to feed introduces you to incredible knockback from headbutts together with severe injury which makes you unable to RUN in, feed quickly, and spring back out of range.  Even having a partner's help and several nearby respawn beds doesn't insure more success.  I would find the appropriate feeding prompt, spam "E", and NOTHING would happen.  No feeding occurred.  Headbutting DID occur though, and more severe damage.  Knocked back the distance of a football field with broken bone injuries,  the attempt to return to find the feeding prompt was so slow the animal had lost taming by the time I got back.  This happened over and over again with zero gain in taming.

I think waiting for a 2x taming event and having 2 - 3 people tag-team the feeding might give you a better chance of taming.  But for the record, I find the entire process ridiculously difficult.  Might be on par with killing the bosses - I haven't done that yet - except that in this case you're trying to keep the animal alive while you're taming.  By the time I called it quits last night, I was ready to skewer and roast the devs who developed this  near-impossible tame.  Used the rhino as proxy instead.  Not nearly as satisfying.  🙄
