  1. Lol, you probably think you're being funny with your little meme. So cringe. Okay, let me explain something very simply for you : Just because something was announced to be part of a game, does not mean it can't remain optional ingame. What does that mean? It means your argument is invalid. How is that for a meme? Also, age has literally nothing to do with lore. That is like saying age should play a part in world of Warcraft, because things age in the lore. The vast majority of games that exist do not have an age mechanic, and yet, have characters who would age in the world if left to it. So you can't use lore as an argument either. The reason you're not "spoon feeding" is because you know that i'll dismantle what you bring me. Much easier to hide it behind "I won't spoon feed you!", then you get to have your cheap little insult too. Bring forth the information, and I will dismantle it. Otherwise i'll assume you don't have any, and you just have no argument.
  2. Strange how you knew exactly where to look for that link... I've never seen anyone have such a meltdown over a forum post. Relax dude. Look at how much effort you're putting in. It is embarrassing. Just accept the loss and move on. Stop filling up the thread with your salt.
  3. Your post is just a salt fest. You've completely given up on the argument, and have resorted to salt.
  4. Point out the flawed logic, or accept defeat. Those are the options available to you. Don't be a sore loser. Just take the loss and move on with your life. No need to be a salt lord.
  5. I accept your concession. Saying the ark argument invalidates anything, and then not explaining why just proves you've got nothing. It is literally a copy paste of ark, but with oceans. .A game that was going to be an addon for Ark originally. So please, don't even. The core mechanics of Ark, are the core mechanics of Atlas. Also, i'm clearly talking about the RESULTS of the mechanics, so don't bring up "reading comprehension". Oh the irony.
  6. It is laughable that you're trying to make age seem like a "core" gameplay mechanic. If it was core to the game, then that would mean it would be core to Ark. Since it doesn't exist in ark, it isn't core to this game either, since they're essentially the same game, except one has an ocean and ships. How can it be used to prevent abusing other mechanics when everything just gets passed onto the next character? And that there is going to be a fountain of youth? It doesn't do anything for the gameplay. Your age changes without you participating. You're claiming age will impact survival aspects of the game, I've seen no evidence of that. But lets say it is true, it still isn't CORE to the game at all, it is still just a little tag on that doesn't make the game any more or less at it's core. Ark is the core of this game, and Ark has no age mechanic. If this game had no age mechanic, people would be indifferent. Why? Because it adds nothing, it only takes away cosmetic options. Would I put cosmetics over slight alteration of some numbers that don't change the core of the game at all in any significant way? Yes. I believe that liking your character is KEY to people playing the game. And if you don't think cosmetics are important, just imagine if all character models were just replaced with giant piles of shit; do you think people would enjoy the game as much then? Do you think as many people would by the game? Unlikely. Some games make all their money off cosmetics.. To somehow present that they're somehow not important is utterly ludicrous.
  7. No, i'm covering the systems that are already in the game, the aging; and then pointing out what they have planned to be bad. Saying that replacing your character, which is their intention, in any way, is pointless hassle. I'm not complaining about HOW it takes place, i'm complaining about the RESULT of the mechanic. I'm deeming it to be a waste of time, and annoying fluff. It comes off as entitled to want to leave it in too, by your own logic. So don't try with the "entitled" trope. That pathetic buzzword that people completely misunderstand. Entitlement isn't when someone simply WANTS something, it is when someone thinks they deserve something. Me saying "I want this" is not entitled. So get your facts right before you misuse the word. You want the age mechanic in, I do not. So we both want something, you're not on some moral high ground for wanting the thing opposed to me. It is just a difference of opinion. I would prioritize having control over what my character looks like over a mechanic that would force my character to look a way I do not want them to look. You would rather prioritize a gimic that will likely make no significant difference to the gameplay, and will force us to replace our characters over and over. Or subject ourselves to endlessly hunting the fountain of youth.
  8. Listen, if you want to talk about all that other stuff, go to the one of many other threads that cover it. Don't come in here and tell me not to talk about stuff this thread is specifically here to discuss. You don't determine what is and isn't important to different people regarding the game, so don't assume that you do.
  9. Right, but i'm saying that having to switch characters is annoying. But even before that, the aging itself is just unnecessary fluff. It just forces people who do care about cosmetics to play a character they don't like the look of.
  10. It doesn't solve the problem, because you'll have to keep looking for it over and over and over and over and over. That will be great fun...Suppose I take a break from the game, only to come back and find my character is dead because I didn't find the fountain. So it is gone forever. What is already in the game is evidence as to how it will work; it is already annoying just as is. As far as breeding, that'll just make it more annoying.
  11. Is that a meme? Memes are for people with no originality. Don't do memes. Lastly : how on earth is aging KEY to the game? What does it add gameplay wise other than cosmetically altering your character? Oh, and then you make a new character after that.. Great fun... Not. This is not gameplay. Not real gameplay. Creating your character is stuff you do before you play the game. The core of the game is PIRATES. It is an MMO about pirates. Aging has little to do with pirates. Why? Because pirates don't live long enough to get old. As I've said in another thread, a pirate lifespan is around 3 years from the start of their career, if they're lucky. Saying aging is key is just a complete misrepresentation. It is complete and utter fluff. A cheap gimic to make the game seem more impressive, when actually making it more limited. I can guarantee you, the ONLY reason they tried to crowbar it in is because of a game coming out called "chronicles or Elyria". That game isn't out yet, so maybe it works in that game.. But in Atlas? It is a complete failure, and renders the character creator mostly useless. If this were a game about kings and queens and lineage, you know, something like bannerlord. THEN it might make sense. But pirates?.. No.

    Aging

I promise you it will not be anything like that. It will literally just be : your character dies, you make a new one at the same level. Making the whole process a waste of time.. Anyone who had done any research on pirates would know this : 1.They don't grow old. They average a lifespan ,at the most, around 3 years from the start of their careers. So although they might start their career at an old age, they sure as hell won't be looking any physically older during the course of it. 2.They don't have infamous/legendary children Meaning this age mechanic is poorly fit for this game. If we were playing a game with kings and queens, like say.. .Bannerlord? Then maybe it would fit. But this? No. It is just a needless bit of annoyance that brings nothing to the gameplay but less cosmetic options.
  13. Has anyone ever heard of blackbeard's kids? Does anyone know what they did? No. Because a legend is ONE person, not a lineage. It just doesn't fit with a pirate game.. It is such a crowbar mechanic that they've only put in because they heard chronicles of Elyria is doing the same. And I can almost guarantee it will just be dying and rerolling. Also, you can look at your character by pressing "K" and rotating the cam.

    Aging

Just push for them to scrap the age mechanic, and have the fountain of youth let you rebirth your character, aka : let you recustomize them from scratch. It adds nothing to the game, and they're just trying to copy another survival MMO that isn't even out yet. Most people don't want an age mechanic; especially in a game where people are trying to solidify a pirate legend. You've got two types of people : -People who don't care about cosmetics AND -People who do care about cosmetics. People who don't care about cosmetics don't care either way. People who do are annoyed their character either had to look old/young when they don't want them to. So it pleases no one, and only serves to annoy people who care what their character looks like.
  15. I notice it often. But what you're talking about is different person to person. Something you clearly don't pay attention to, others might. Just like how you might not notice the fashionable jeans someone might be wearing, another might make note. It is the same thing. There is nothing cool about constantly having to remake characters for an arbitrary mechanic, and replace the one i'm currently using. It is just pointless hassle. They had it right in Ark by making everyone ageless. If we want old looking characters, just give us the option in the creator and be done with it.
  16. It doesn't matter how often I see it, it is how other people see it that matters. Like, why wear stylish clothes if you never really get to look at yourself wearing them? It is exactly the same thing. Right, but I assume they plan on adding hardcore servers down the line for permanent death. But aside from that, we need to resurrect because this is a videogame. So of course you have to suspend your disbelief for some things; but it shouldn't be for cosmetic fluff like an aging mechanic nobody really wants, and the game would be better without. It just makes the cosmetic side of the game LESS optional, and so makes the game as a whole LESS because of it. Like, if age added something gameplay wise, maybe I could understand wanting to keep it. But right now? It just divides they playbase into people who don't care about cosmetic stuff, and people who do. People who don't care about cosmetic stuff won't care either way, and people who do will just be annoyed their character looks wrong.
  17. In what way is it immersive to become old in the space of a month real-time? How can you make a "pirate legend" in a month? Then your character dies and you have to replace them. OR you have to look old when you might not want an old looking character. Stuff like this should ALWAYS be optional. Why? Because it makes no difference in PVP. It literally adds nothing to the gameplay, it is all cosmetic fluff. Cosmetic fluff that makes the cosmetic side of the game LESS optional. I won't stick around this game long if they don't make this optional for two reason : 1. I don't want my character to look a way I do not want them to look. 2. I don't want to be constantly changing characters over and over. I get it, the devs probably heard of that other survival MMO that added aging (chronicles of Elyria), and it garnered some attention. But many of us do NOT like mechanics like this. If i'm not mistaken, that game actually added a race that doesn't age for people who don't like that. For comparison, lets say every movie of the pirates of the Caribbean you swapped Jack Sparrow out for Jack Sparrow's next descendant. And they had the same personality as Jack Sparrow; you get the idea.. It would be pretty dumb. That is essentially what it feels like playing atlas right now. Either you want your character to look old, or you want your character to look young, and you only get to enjoy them that way for a short time before they have to either die, or get older in a couple of days. This is idiotic. Why have a character creator, if I can't even look the way I want anyway? It is utterly pointless. Just remove age altogether, and let us make our pirate legends. Or ATLEAST let us turn it off.
