  1. Wouldn't be easier to just build big gates around the ship? 😛 I've seen also shipyards around the ship but this is significant investment in resources.

There is a balance of how much work is needed vs how much satisfaction one can get. They are patching the easiest and imho most satisfying exploits which should cut on number of griefers significantly.

Also blocking ship with rafts or building will not provide immediate satisfaction of sinking the ship, won't provide materials, etc, so hopefully all impatient, immediate gratification griefers will very quickly get bored and move on.

Have you not noticed the countless threads about griefing?

It's a nice thought, but just like the real world, Atlas is also full of assholes.

Assume one jerk for every few hundreds people and with so many of us playing right now they are more visible than usually.

    Hi!

    Welcome to Atas!

Many of us are excited to be here. If you're not familiar with GrapeCard™, the game's developers and the creators of Ark, let me acquaint you with a relevant bit of their track record with that game that seems to be carrying on the same tradition here. Namely that these folks are almost comically bad at hitting their own deadlines. I would strongly advise not taking any publicly announced date from them seriously. Use it as a vague guideline at best.  The dev kit will be out when it comes out. Expect it Soon™

Unless its in 5 minutes we will update the server in game announcement. In this case in next half an hour the servers will be updated with 5 minutes top rollback 😄

    Hey Devs,

Bottom line - Land is in short supply, as  you well know. People are settling literally ANYWHERE they can. There's a HUGE problem with that though. Since the islands are mostly small, RESOURCES are rapidly disappearing because the land clamp radiuses of structures (particularly Small Shipyards, Large Shipyards, Lighthouses, and Foundations) are de-resourcing the areas in a MASSIVE way!

I had a nice chap settle next to us in a prime location. I let him know that he had to build on the water like I did, because the resources de-spawn and the island is so small. We got his house built just off the shoreline, and he wanted his Small Shipyard. He placed it, and all of the resources up to 100 blocks were GONE after we harvested them once.  This radius clamp is REDICULOUSLY HUGE!

Please help us get our island's resources back by lowering ALL structural land clamps to +1 instead of +100 blocks. Make is so people don't HAVE to build with the sharks in order to preserve resources on their island.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

With shipyards totally agree. This is a problem. As for foundations - well, we need to be able to make pastures somehow and i would rather not have to build it out of foundations and just leave small gates around with a shack or two inside.
But yeah, shipyards are tragic in this regard.

How as a solo player are you gonna do boss fights and power stones? How are you gonna get beyond the 54 level cap? You need a team. If you dont have one next everyone will start posts about making the end game easier. The socialistic approach in a open world game does not work. you are asking for a sunshine and rainbow game play that is not what the devs had in mind when making a game like this. I think what you are asking for is doable on a unofficial server but no reason to bring the level of play down on the official server.

Power stone I will actually try to steal solo - imho doable, will check later this or early next weak.
How the hell do you know what devs have in mind with them not communicating much is beyond me.
Everyone has been posting about making this game easier for a loooong time.... Not sure how you missed it.

Now here is the thing - you can play this game solo perfectly as far as I've been - i've been doing it from the beggining and right now its easier then ever (minus claims which imho are again broken for everyone and need tweaking).

So from my point of view devs made this game for solo players too.

So why are you commenting on my thread? Move along no one cares about your RP server.

This is general forum category - and I disagree with you on general state of the game and claim system. Don't care about PvE? Well, there is PvP category on this forum and I won't care about what you post there 🙂

  7. Actually cooking is kind of useful, for example single berry tea expires after days in ladder while stack of berries would decay earlier.
    Still the main problem are:
    - lack of simple recipes - i have 3 simple recipes for yellow stuff, milk for blue, meat for pink, but nothing simple for orange. Add some simple recipes for blue and orange at least. Meat already has (cooked vs raw).

    - water - 200 unit of water for one tea. 2 and half tea from a barrel, one tea from stone reservoir. There is no point in touching it when you would have to make like 20 barrels to have even modest amount of tea.

  8. Quick summary of everything that is broken within current system:

Claiming can take 6 hours and ANYBODY can reset the claiming process.
That is not only nearly a man-day in any reasonable office, but anybody who move around can reset this claims. There were people who claimed to try for 24 hours all around and failed.
This is not working for anyone and frankly I don;t understand how it could have been a good idea.

2 hours claim with possibility to reset only by owners is already a long time but somewhat understandable. 3 hours would be a long stretch. Assuming someone is busy with something in different sector, i can't find a situation in which that person could not take 2 minutes in span of 2 hours out to stop the claiming and go back to what he or she was doing.

Now, second problem - anybody can reset the timing - this makes claiming on island with active players impossibility. Going around falling trees, gathering fiber, taking maps, everything can break someones claiming process. Maybe in PvP  you could do something about it, if you had company with dozens of players, in PvE its hopeless.

From what i see, 6 hours claiming is always on, regardless of how many flags you have + on one of my flag was written that i had 0 claims - while i know i have 5. This may need some confirmations because i have claims which are overlapping (my sea claim overlapping my own 2 land claims and parts of the 3rd).
Some claims seems to be impossible to contest even if there is no one around. Have one such flag overlapping my territory.

Claims overlapping is still a thing as far as i know.

So, yeah, a lot to fix, tweak still in this regards to make current system usable.

ye but it wont be 30 days from when they start playing, it will be 30 days from when the patch happens, so thats all the time + the 30 days. its just a recipe for peeps to quit by then

    Maybe.

Basically it depends on how they would go about it and what they have to work with. If they already store "last login" date data in database, its last login date + 30 days. So assuming they would do it today, somewhere from week to 4 weeks from now.

If they would have to add this information to database, than you are correct, it would be all the time + 30 days.

  10. 6 minutes ago, Talono said:

No, you can not. 100% of all islands are owned by large megatribes, even tundra and ice.

HaHaHa..what ? Contesting them ? How ? Even if they dont use the daisy chain exploit you need 5:30 hours per flag. If after 4 hours a random player kills a sheep near that flag the 5:30 hours start from scratch.

But the propability is much higher, that the 200 tribe members hunt you down, at least that is what i experienced. Even if you are lucky and own land after 5:30 hours because the owning megatribe us lazy or stupid... lets assume that you manage to build a big stone cube fast... believe me they will mortar down every single stone of your base, even if they need hours.

My 3 person company with few claims is megatribe 😄
My neighbor solo player is a megatribe 😄
My other 5(?) players company is a megatribe 🤪
My nearby islands neighbours (with similar companies) are megatribes :skull:

Everyone a megatribe! Even if solo! 🤪

So keep away! We are megatribes and you can't claim us!

On the other hand current claiming timeline is messed up - probably a bug? Either way, devs flipped timings from "doable, just irritating for everyone, both claiming person and defender" to "I don't have to care about my claim at all, it's impossible to claim".

30 days is too long tbh, 10-14 days is more then enough

14 days means one trip somewhere, medium long business trip or family holiday. 15 and longer days trip are as far as i know very rare but i know families which takes them. For this reason i was thinking 30 days or something equally long. We are in this game for hundreds of hours and most work will be done on ships and bases. You need tone of containers for storing gear and blueprints. And it takes tones of time to get them. For this reason i'm thinking family friendly "decay" time.

problem is it has and hasn't been fixed, some of the current flags with overlap will remain overlapped because they haven't cleared servers since they dont despawn or change without input. New ones wont be able to overlap but it does nothing for the countless land claims that is already overlapped.

Ah, yes and no. Imho this will die out with time. People will rotate in and out of game and claims will change. At least that's are my hopes.
At some point hopefully they will add system with which you weren't in game for 30 days, your flags will disappear ... or something similar.

The land claim is fantastic when u have one island for you, and is pure crap for tons of player who have nothing, NOTHING! and live in lawless, for this reason people will leave the game sooner than they expected

TWO FLAGS FOR EVERY COMPANY IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR A NICE PLAY !

I understand you have big company (lets assume 100 man) and it works for you with 2 claims? Or now many which are able to have "nice play" with only 2 claims?

1 Sea claims is enough for small company  (2-5 people) - that i can confirm with qualification that overlapping bug has to be fixed, otherwise its not enough.

2 Sea claims is actually best cause you can ensure that resources you use are present (on small island its important).

I'm really tired of those "Lets exaggerate as much as I can get away with so they see there is a problem". Its like talking with my 6 years old nephew.

I'm not saying this is foolproof (Elrood), but I've been kicking around this idea for a while, so let's see if it can be patched back up after people are finished shooting holes in it.

This is a pve idea.  Pvp has an entirely different goal with claims.

First, limit claims to 1 per person.  Adjust the claim size so that works ok for most people.  Make the island interiors unclaimable  by individuals.

Some people always want to be the biggest and the best, even in a pve game, so what if being the biggest and best requires that you actually give up some of your land?  The devs have said there is some village/town/city/shop structure coming...so..let's say you want to have the first big city with lots of player run shops, commerce, etc.  What do you have to do?

Have some large number of people who have claimed land in one spot.

Sign a charter for a village and build it up through the ranks to city, each time, the individual claims get smaller and a couple of "common claims" start to grow.  By the time you're a city, individual claims are the size of a house and a small garden, and the common claims are where you put city shipyards, taming pens, farms shops, city buildings giving you administration over it all, fresh water fountain, town hall giving perks, etc.  Now each person doesn't need a huge chunk of land with everybody having their own shipyard, farms, taming, etc.    Maybe one of the common claims is meant to stay empty and reserve your resource spawns.

City does not equal Company.  You can have multiple companies in one city.  Claims should expire if no one has actually been in them in 2 weeks...20 days..something like that, and cities have to have an occupancy rate, so people have to take those claims or the city crumbles.  Cities have a number of shops, and the shops pay taxes to the city.  The city can use that money to buy perks, benefits and cosmetic improvements.

This means every time a group wants to advance in this way, they are shrinking their land base to gain that benefit, making more land available.  It keeps big groups from splitting up and spreading all over the map, because you need the numbers all in one place to do it.  (It would help if some of these islands were a little bigger, really)   It keeps people from spamming claims and wrecking resource spawns.

At some point, unless the game is a total flop, the servers will just run out of land altogether, and that would need to be addressed with either more islands or more servers, but that would be the case even if everything stayed as it is now.

First thing I see as a problem is shrinking claim - this means if I have big build (like base + pen + few supporting buildings) I run risk of losing some of it.

But non the less I like it. Would have to be developed way more + it would be time consuming because you need additional stuff like new perk tree and graphics... But i like it.

Unfortunately you will run into the same problems game named Boundless had. What to do with people you don't want to have in town? What to do with people who get bored and start trolling common areas? Etc. Bad apples happened in every place and with big towns two or three such bad apples could wipe out a town making it too irritating to invest in it.

its being used everywhere since day one its been sinking ships.. But saddly you need more proof than the pictures you provided to do anything.

Heh, yeah... There should be freaking logs for admin to check, not "proof" by players. Any proof by player can be forged, while logs on the server can not. Player should just jump start the process, by saying this and this happen on this hour in this server. And gm just go, look at logs, see actions players did and decide ban/not ban.
For example log when player weight > 10000. You have so much weight?! You are exploiting something. Ban.

Simple and quick and will weed out a lot of griefers.

  16. On schooner small sail (i'm using handling) is extremely good for maneuvering. It won't pull you any significant way forward but allow much faster turning, practically in place. Especially helpful while you want to maneuver around many anchored ships or need to turn the ship around.
One big speed sail is totally enough for sailing IMHO.

  17. Grid you are in most probably.
I've been playing yesterday for multiple hours and had only one known CDT cause of server changes. Plus sailed through like 7 sectors and spend few hours in my base.

Have to say, we have been actively sailing around lawless. It's tragic in those parts of the grid. Lag and ruberbanding hard enough that it was efficient to sale around them.

Actually in lawless foundation and pillar doesn`t block spawn

"i came first. Screw you!" this doesn't mean that only on fraction of the poeple that bought this game are actually able to experience it completely.

Guess why? Maybe because the lawless server are overcrowded? And why are they overcrowded? Luckly the devs have fixed, so the foundetion and pillars doesn't block spawn anymore

@SCRAD the point is not to have any or limitied claims. the point is allow everybody to play the game.

Actually this "doesn't block spawn" probably spilled over and we have crocs or wolfs (even alphas) spawning in bases killing tamed animals 😉 so be prepared for new changes in that area.

Now, for the "give 1 person a claim". Here how it will end up: Zergs will have tone of land. Everything else will be divided between extremely small companies. Only zerg islands will have any resources left cause everything else will be blocked by buildings on single or double claims. Claim overlapping will mean you will quit the game the moment your neighbor goes offline and some griefer will overlap you base which you spent last 60 hours working on.

I've wrote it in the past i will write it again.

Think out solution which will survive against hundreds of very dedicated trolls and won't end in disaster if people will be greedy, jerks and obnoxious. So if people will be people. Assume every 1 out of 10 players is a jerk. Assume every 1 out of 10 players is a griefer. If you think your solution can solve that - than please write about it.
This one I would love to hear about.
But proposing stuff which will probably end with another disaster? Probably even bigger one? Imho not the best idea.

Bear in mind, I won't care. I need two claims that i have, 3 are luxury i can have in current and proposed solutions. But if you think 1 claim per person will help you? Nope, it won't. And zergs would have field day claiming all the "now unprotected" land.
The only people who will trully benefit from this changes are said Zerg 500+ clans.

WTF ???? 6 hours?? Wasn’t supposed to be 30 min in PVE ?

6 hours without play the game ? , what’s their logic really ??

6 hours if the person you want to claim has only 1 claim total. The more claims company/person have, the less time it takes to claim. But i have to say they overdid it....

  20. heh....

I have a proposition for all of you, who think current system is bad.
Think out a system which can't be twisted by group of very dedicated trolls. Than propose it.

1 claim per person? Alpha tribes win.  Solo players and 2-3 person companies have problem. In ideal situation - where every person can get one claim and build on it, islands are barren lands because every single claim has some building on it.
Limit claims per company? Alpha tribes split into alliance of multiple companies (organized either in game or outside of it). Zerg tribes are already established with leaders and subordinates, management, etc. Take out organization part out of the game, they will organize outside of it, discord, forums, etc. Nothing will change. Arguable it will be worse because you won't be able to tell its zerg tribe you are facing. It will be conglomerate of small companies. And they will still have equal amount of land.

Take out claim system entirely? It will result in barren land because every single place with resource spawning will be taken by someone building 1 block house with bed or we will have spam of pillars and foundations as in lawless.

If you can find a system in which i can't find a disaster, I would love to hear about it.

And please keep in mind that claim overlapping is still a thing and not fixed in any way. This actually make your proposition even worse cause you would have trouble making buffer zones.
