We bought in expecting a modded ark that has a roadmap to an mmo.

Nope. Some of us expected ark with ships and bigger map.

However, unlike what that video points out, Atlas has NO roadmap. They're just winging it and hoping shit turns out okay.

It worked in Ark but that won't work for an MMO that attempts an economy and conquest.

I want your crystal ball. Or tea leaves. Or whatever else clairvoyance tools you use.
    Okey, got them. Thanks.
It will work! They will make it! It work for Ark after all.

And in saying MMO with economy and conquest... Single player, private servers, pve servers HAVE NO PLACE IN AN MMO LIKE THIS.

But it has a place in survival pirate game. Which Atlas also is. (sorry, forgot caps)

    Don't do it ffs....

Ps. I know how constructive my post is. But you know what? I don't care 🙂

I'm sure that will help overall with the numbers eventually, but as of me writing this about 72% of all players are on the four official servers.

This far into Ark's development that still had a player base of 75% from what they had at launch (76% average players, 74% peak players).  Atlas has about 10%.  That's a massive drop off.  The lowest Ark ever slipped was 65.9% of average players in Sept 2018, 61.2% of peak players in Sept/Oct 2018.  That's the lowest the population ever got.  By February, two months after release, Atlas had dropped well below that (29% average, 42.6 peak players).  You can pretend it's not an issue, that a game that more often than not can't even make the Top 100 Games on steam.  But eventually they are going to pull the plug as they can't keep on living off of sales from the first month and off Ark's money.

There is no subscription nor micro-transactions - so player retention is not something that generate income directly. Only true telling thing will be how many people will buy expansion when/if they get to making one and/or buy game on release. And that is actually depending on them giving a reason to buy it for those who already left altas (and to get new player to buy it).

Assuming that you are right and only 10% people play today. This means that people who like whats going on are actually a minority - 10% of initial people. This means their feedback is actually irrelevant or even counterproductive because it further goes into where the 10% wants to go - further into a niche atlas becoming right now and may have nothing to do with reasons for 90% who left. And it has to go back out of this niche to get back to wider audience. Which means... Changes which may not be according to the taste of those who stayed, nor according to their priorities because that 10% is not a priority. Sure, I'm simplifying quite a bit. Sure, its not that easy. But for me this is high level overview of that kind of situation.

I was happy about this also, I said weeks ago something similar should be in the game, they must have read my mind or posts :classic_laugh:

I wanted something where npc attack your base, maybe they come in by sea, ships head towards your base, you have towers near the shore for defences and they start launching the attack. The npc or pirates get off thier ships when near land and start coming towards your base trying to destroy it.

People might say well this is just PvP go and play that but single player is about you just experiencing the game alone, I think something like this should be added. I've seen the mods that give tameable pirates but that doesn't work as intended yet.

The encampments is a step in the right direction at least, you can go out and attack them but I still think it would have been nice if every so often they come and seek you out also.

It would be cheap man pvp, true. But it will not be offline raiding! That means worst part of current PvP would be gone good, leaving fun part in (toggable for those who just want to build). I'm all for it. But truth be told, for now I'm happy with devs adding any kind of WPE at all 😄

@Elrood You can't blame the players for this.

It is entirely the oversight of obvious(!) results by the devs, nothing else.

You give the ability to randomly sink boats to a million people, you can be sure as fuck that somebody is going to abuse it.

And the only way to prevent this, and this is a widely accepted fact, is to not give that ability to anyone.

Literally anyone who had ever successfully designed a game (in contrast to barely getting your progam to compile at least and then calling it a game) knows this.

Why can't I blame players?! Sure, I agree, probability that in several thousands players there will be jerks is around 100%. But that doesn't mean I can't blame them for what they are and for what they force games to be.

Players pushed you out by doing things the devs allowed and even encouraged and wrote code for them to do.

Well yea. This is sandbox and imho we can't have cake without cake. Devs imho had good frame for survival, "kind of" realistic game. Than jerks came.

What actually pushed me out was: griefers sinking boats by weight (perfectly good mechanic if it would not be randomly abused), idiots building trapping pit on a slot I left open for settling which I had no way to remove (surely they could just demolish it after use, but it would take additional 3 minutes....) - thanks, not only I didn't get neighbor, i lost resources spawns for nothing. Idiots building gates around a ship. Idiots trying to steal stuff from not pin-coded containers.... Idiots building on rarer resource nodes which I didn't manage to claim to protect after my neighbor lost interest. Idiots who claimed a spot on island and blocked resources spawns using gates. Etc. In short - people who didn't consider others, didn't care.

All those problems with spawning animals inside pens, spawning AotD inside base... This I had dealt with successfully. It wasn't that hard, just a bit tedious building spawn proof pens. Decay was not really a problem if you have modicum of time.... AotD blocked by gates means climbing picks and you can deal with that too (mostly). Well, most of what you written I actually didn't care that much about. Just people being jerks.

I do like most of the mechanics those jerks used to grief. When they were working according to spirit, not letter. And then some jerk sink ship using weight. So now anchored ship has unlimited weight limit. Another one level ships on mobs on the island. And some quick fix goes. And game goes downhill. Add to it constant worry about overlapping claims...
So after they decided to wipe the server, i finally quit.

And now, that single player is there, I can play with all those "griefing friendly" mechanics which imho makes game more interesting without whole bunch of jerks using them to make my life miserable. At least when I figure out how to reapply them again 😄

Plus i can make "backup saves" so i don't have to worry about stuff disappearing cause of bugs and loosing multiple days of progress. Few hours sure, I can live with that. Few days? Backups exists.

I've already given myself that hint.  "What if the goal is to just get everyone off the official servers and onto the single player or single-multiplayer or hosted modes?"  Makes sense from a money perspective.  Why bother running a whole bunch of servers for a low population when you can just let them run their own servers, make their own rules, save money, eliminate 50% of the complaints, and for a bonus, they do all their own development work?

Then I tell myself, nah, that's too cynical.

😄 Devs didn't push me out of multiplayer servers. Players did. Devs just added a way for me to return to it and have fun.

  7. I mean only that 🙂

Sure would be nice to have all you listed. But for me most of it would be just cherry on top of the cake.
Trading would be icing of the cake already and add a lot more immersion.
And WPE are the cake itself already. 😉

If it would come up to the question of work required vs profit - just adding random non hostile trading factories would be biggest boost for me 😄

In addition, there doesn't seem to be a lot of context being understood.  If we list the changes that have happened since the wipe, there are very few on the plus side, especially for smaller pve groups on official, and a huge list of minuses, or changes that look great but are "not for you", like the new additions for singleplayer and hosted servers.  If the trend continues, there won't be much reason to try to continue on with the game.

I will give you a hint - addition of single player wasn't for the "current" player base. Rather for those of us who had enough of toxicity on PvE and wanted to play in peace. And you know what? At least in my case it worked pulling me back into the game. On Single player where i don't have to worry about griefers and toxicity and riffraff...  Non the less back into the game and interested again.

You can adjust a plethora of sliders in singleplayer and mod it also. If you think the game is "too dumbed down" crank the difficulty to 1.0. Official are set to 0.2 to give you a baseline. Higher level and more spawns, and better loot.

Actually I wouldn't trust higher difficulty means more spawns.

I have difficulty 1.0 and spawn rate 0.5 - and i have less than half of what I would assume i could get on official. Plus practically no carnivores (i saw one wolf corpse and few low level snakes). On the other hand i see very big interval of level possibilities. Level 150 are not uncommon and i saw alphas of level 600+ (i think 925 was highest i saw).
So difficulty level in my mind is equal to max level of the creatures.

  10. You surely aren't the only one!

Game already is so much less stressful without constant worry of getting griefed, claim overlapped etc....

A lot of settings are transitioned from Ark settings, so ark wiki is very useful.

I would also love some breakdown which settings to touch to re-enable bow damage (standard and fire arrows), grenades damage, etc. to SotD army and allow ship weapons to damage land mobs (just looking for tips on it, I have not yet experimented with it, i have too much fun just building stuff now 😄 ).

Edit:But this stuff hopefully I can find in the server section 😄

Unfortunately I think they really missed what made Ark a success.  Hint: It wasn't people playing in Alpha Tribes on the official servers.  The official server population in Ark makes up about 15% of the people playing at any given time.

If only they would add single player.... :classic_huh: and maybe EVEN possibility to easly play with 2 or 3 friends..... 😜 on the same map as official servers..... 🤪
No way they would do it.... Wouldn't they? 🤦‍♂️

The overlap issue is indeed stupid and have to be addressed. The claim area can be tweaked so all things can be placed in. If there is no overlap then company with more players can claim bigger land. I do not say 1 claim per company I say 1 claim per player.  So a company with 5 players have 5 times bigger area then 1 but probably use the same building as 1.  And inland I claim in pvp over it. Is useless

You're problem look more that the claim area is to small, if overlap will be fixed and area is tweaked is really do not see the problem..

Are you ok if I claim the biggest island totally for me alone? And only use 5 % of it? And do not share it with others.

1 claim with a tweaked bigger area our 5 claims that are same size

Actually I'm fine if one person claim whole island, because this one person should not be able to hold it. My point of view is simpler - base idea of claims imho is good enough - problem we have right now is stealing is both overpowered (and active people can lose base) and under-powered (and one person  can hold one island with relative ease).

Yes, it is a question of tweaking stuff, we just have fundamental difference which part of the system should be tweaked/changed.

Very nice and adult response. I can get resources also outside a claim on other claims. The bigger your company is the bigger land you can claim also with 1 claim per person.  Still it does not stop others to get your "resources".  On pvp I see the need for more claims. In over I do not see the need.

It is just stupid 1 player can claim a whole island our even more then 1 island and only build on a small piece.  And just login and transfer quickly from bed to 1 island to another so nobody can contest and can have a small strip of land for there own.

Taxes is a piece in the right way. But what if the owner close it and does not want to share anymore. Will the others lose there buildings?

1claim big enough to build you're house and shipyard is enough.

Lets give you inland claim on one of the bigger islands 🙂 Good luck.
My curent base is in the place I can't put big shipyard withing my first claim. Only second sea claim allowed me to get it.

You seriously underestimating number of small companies and solo players (truth be told, lately we were culled down nicely, still as far as i know there is a lot of us).

You totally ignored claim overlapping which means single claim right now is constant danger of loosing everything.

Zergs (100 - 500 players companies) would have field day claiming everything currently empty just after change.

And you totally ignored 20 other topics where this stuff was discussed to death and beyond and exact reasons (more than I just provided) why 1 claim per person is idiotic were provided.

You didn't even try to read into the topics (discussed multiple times and yeah, walls of text, those where lenghty discussions) when you decided to throw in your opinion which imho you didn't even spend 10 minutes thinking about.

You want adult response? I did try to provide it this time.

  14. 27 minutes ago, awakatanka said:

In pve only 1claim is enough.  Just let people build outside the claim and after 2 hours ( our Max time of a taming ) the build decaying. Mostly you try to time outside your claim. Bigger company can claim more because the have more people our decide that the keep some claims for other islands. A claim is big enough for a house and shipyard and some crops.

I am in lawless and we live good all have enough for there buildings. Mostly small groups our solo players.

At this moment it is a saver building after 4 days it decaying but a claim can be contested after 3......

Do you have one claim?! And tamed animals?! And neighbours with one claim too? And big shipyard?! Have any idea how much resources would be gone with every one living out of one claim?!

No, you probably have nothing. You live on lawless or a raft or some friendly company and have no f*^% idea what kind of armageddon this would be. So STFU or think it through.

They ninja patched the PvE server to remove sleepers last night. There was a massive land grab by all of the major players, im sorry you got eaten up in the process. I think there shouldve been more of a heads up for smaller companies, especially since theyre about to change the timer to two weeks for smaller claims.

Yet again patch which would be okey for alpha, not open long term and persistent beta.
Practically no warning, no way to prevent getting overlapped, nothing if you were not 24/7 player/company overlapping... which is still NOT FIXED.

They are applying stuff which is short term disaster yet again -.- after fountain of youth.

This is roller-coaster between disasters for us players -.-

    Well said.

Its weird to me that they release the game in early access, and then dont talk to players about upcomming changes . That is kinda the whole point of it. Not just getting money early to help further development.

    Depends.
They may have run out of money and needed more or publisher decided it was time to test the game and see if there is any point in further investment (hopefully this wasn't the case).

I just wrote ticket with screenshots ,names, storage box location and everything.

They did it right in front of my eyes, there was a major lag everytime they stood in front of box,

    after that they where EMPTY!!!

It was inside the Home of our cooking lady, she will be mad when she comes on tonight....

They are still here and now very very toxic!

I'am in  fear they will loot everything.

They created LvL1 Chars and logged them of inside my Building.

This really looks like a hack tool used -.- Hopefully they will get banned but i wouldn't keep my hopes too much. If they are using vpn's there is no actual technical way I'm aware to keep them banned indefinitely 😞 other as ban them next time it occurs as long as they want to spam money to rebay game every time their steam account get banned.

they should really start to care about this issues.

We are talking about "game breaking" bugs, exploits and wrong desicions.

    Unbenannt.JPG

Actually they don't have to care about it at all at this point.
Even if they fix everything, most of those reviews will stay negative.
Not only because some people are just lazy and forgot to update it (forever) but because some have idiotic idea "it was broken, need to punish them for fixing it". But this is separate discussion actually.
Additionally if someone is pissed probability that said person will write negative is way higher than if person has fun (cause said person is busy playing the game).
Just look at some English top ones. 100+ hours played "I can't log in for 5 hours, trash game" written in pure rage and forgotten. Marked as "helpful" for a lot of people.

From  financial standpoint as far as i know they have more incentive to abandon the game than fix it at this point and more negative reviews will not help us get better game in any way. Harm (financial) have been done and is impossible to fix. This means they are way past point where they should care at all about reviews.

And if you look at what they doing - its obvious they don't.
They care now (maybe not only but hell lot) about people who actually amend their opinions - so streamers - because their audience will hear stuff like "hey, they fix XYZ I've asked"......

@Elrood  Thank you, i just realized i bought the wrong game.

Because thats not my definition of PvE.

Tell me more -.- I'm nearly done with this game on official server now even if my base is nearly griefers immune. Last changes (fountain and stone) overflowed my cup of bitterness. Maybe I will play in my own custom server/game later, but official servers are just broken.
