i think this thread is kinda hilarious... atlas is a survival mmo and even if it wasnt there will always be a huge gap between casuals and no lifers or solo/small group vs large group... if you remove certain elements you get humilated with skill and if that is not possible nobody would buy the game cuz it would be boring... that said what is your goal in a mmo like atlas? as i started i did not care at all about what large companies did and dwelled on lawless thinking im mighty with plate and carbine vs animals...

specially if you choose to play pvp instead of pve... sink ships and destroy stuff without consequences and get everything for free?

all i can say about this is... delusional+ignorant...

probably does not matter anymore in the current state of the game as you can basically solo on official pretty easy...

Not only I have no idea what exactly you want to add to discussion, i have strong suspicion you managed to contradict yourself somewhere there...

I never said that having 2x weekends was a particularly good solution to the problem.

Anyway, if the rates were equally as high during periods where people with a job cannot play, the no-lifers would still be even further ahead of the rest.

A feasible way to address this problem would be to implement diminishing returns, in such a way that each successive time period sunk into playing the game yields lesser and lesser results, until the difference between spending another hour of playing  or not is so infinitesimally miniscule that it hardly makes any difference at all.

This tipping point should ideally be reached after spending an amount of time at playing the game, which can realistically be reached by a vast majority of players, which i estimate to be at roughly 4h/day.

If you insist on abusing your ability to spend quadruple the time on the game that other people can, you should not be surprised to see player numbers plummet until it is only the no-lifers left and the game eventually dies from mass player extinction.

If there is a portion of players whom you do not provide equal opportunity at keeping up with everyone else, you are going to lose that portion of players eventually.

Grapeshot has shown on multiple occasions their inability to avoid screwing over smaller companies and players who spend less time on the game.

Don't further encourage them to keep up with this bullshit!

Even the basic concept of grinding/levelling is detrimental to the idea of PvP, because the winner of a conflict is not determined by who is playing better, but by who has been playing/grinding more.

That idea i actually really like.
Something akin to WoW "rested" mechanics where the longer you are offline the higher "rates" you have would be perfect solution, when capped at something reasonable. I don't have time nor will to crunch math right now, but something akin to 0.03 rate per hour increase and 0.2 decrease per hour, capping at x4 could maybe work out well.
From my quick excel calculations, it would allow someone who pay 3 hours per day accumulate enough (after week or two of regular playing) to always start with x4.
But someone who play 4 or more would actually use all accumulated time from day before. Plus longer breaks would actually allow to catch up a bit easier.

    Edit:
Actually allowing x4 for constant 3h per day playtime is to much imho, so rate per hour increase should be probably lower. How low I'm not sure.

  3. The only sure solution I can think off is to close restart game.

We could also test going to main menu and loading back the game - should work as well.

Unfortunately 3rd party programs will not be able to help because save folder is reserved for atlas application instance 😞 Not sure if whole time or only at "random" intervals, but either one possibility is creating a host of issues.
So even if I wrote some simple program to 7zip save game folder it and copy it somewhere safe windows would prevent it from doing its job because atlas is often (if not constantly) using it while game is running.

@Elrood you might want to react to the post as you are confused, but that is completely fine. I know you are not informed on this matter.

Jeremy was that one that got wildcard sued in the first place for breaching contract. This was the one and only reason that scorched earth actually costed money even though ark was in early access. I had another dev state to me that employees were not allowed to talk to each other. He has also had claims of sexism brought against him(mind you I usually take that with a grain of salt if that was the only claim).

mind you, if you aren’t familiar with twitter which I am to a high degree, he literally posted on his personal twitter everything that atlas Twitter was going to say but a couple of minutes before they did so he was able to absorb the hype. Not only me but a lot of others were very quick to jump on him about that.

he went months without talking about ark or anything on Twitter... here comes atlas. He tries to steal all the thunder, and once people put him in his rightful place we haven’t heard from him on twitter since the release of atlas. Go figure.

you can react all you want but I already k ow what is going on with Jeremy lol

The only thing I'm confused is why the hell they didn't ban you yet.... :classic_rolleyes:

If it weren't for the 2x weekends, the 24/7 welfare/preschool faction would be even further ahead of the rest of us, though, because grapecard doesn't know how to do diminishing returns, so everything always scales linearly.

    Well, thats

Welfare/preschool faction you are so scared would do both weekends and weeks. So you are maybe maintaining status quo on weekend and still have at most half of what they have. Actually even less, cause sailing is a thing and its not 2x faster on weekends. So they loose time on week on gathering but sailing goes the same time, which means you still got you ass kicked by those preschool/welfare/24h  streamers.

On the other hand those of us who has completely random time for playing, are screwed if would be screwed if we could not play on weekend. Fortunately single player exist now, so you can have your x10 weeks too without me saying anything about it 🙂

Is there somewhere ingame that bears can spawn higher than 30? If not the math of what the wiki says would seem to be wrong if you have a wild tamed 147.

Isn't that depending on server / single player settings?
Sure, official can have max lvl 30, but if you play with difficulty setting on server/ single player you can get up to few hundreds level creature.

Who wants to play Single player????

A lot of people mate... A lot of people.

Some of us were actually waiting for something like it without having to setup whole server grid from the moment they allowed unofficial servers.

What you failed to know earlier, this is Ark with ships. End of story. Doesn't matter what the vision was. Something akin to single player was inevitable 🙂 . It was just a question how irritating it would be to set up and devs made it trivial.

For me, switched to PVE because, my ships were either sunk while I was offline, my base and and supplies destroyed, or similar actions would take place on a regular basis.  Finally joined a larger company for protection,  and they would have strict rules, take over the base I had built, or take my ship out when I was offline and get it sunk.  There is no fun in a game where after logging in, you find you are starting over again.  It is PVE or single player from here on out.

Had exactly the same with the thing that I've started on PvE and after all the drama decided that pvp amount on pve was not worth it. Single player for the win.

  9. Are you going out of grid and coming back to see stuff missing?
    Or is it on ship?
Where is it, what was you doing between last check and it disappearing?

It has not yet happen to me, so probably we would need to do specific thing to trigger that kind of bug and I would rather know how before i lose to much stuff.

Yeah I think our experiences might be quite different, I am owner of a Company and have responsibility 2 bring in Gold for upkeep of 2 islands and that is a bit rough sometimes. Even more so since almost  everyone else is away on holiday. Also we have tons of tames to look after. The weekdays mon - fri being lower rates don't bother me - I always have tons to do then anyway - transport rare resources, take care of tames, do our big gardens, look after and keep our islands clean from spam, etc.

But if there werent 2x rates on weekend I don't Think I would be as interested in the game -  cause everything just takes too da*n long already, as it is...  If they removed 2x, they would have to make sailing way way faster or something, for it being worth it, to me. Perhaps up the minimum wind speed by 100 %.

Just upkeep alone, when you're an island owner, takes up lots of time. Aswell as trying to recruit new people etc.  I almost never have time to go out and just explore stuff, it's mostly upkeep and farming materials i spend time on, as slow as everything already goes in this game.

I don't have any numbers to support it but my thought is that I have seen far more people talking about what a time sink this game is, and that that makes them bored, rather than the other way around.

Just my opinion though, just as you are allowed yours ofc.   🙂

    Wow... that feels painful.

I think it need to be said that I don't really pay that much attention to the rate itself. 0.5 is fun for me on single, but i could also play on x4, x5, etc without any problem, as long as its consistent. This 0.5 is just because I know how much content atlas has and I want it to last a bit longer (and i don't care about grind).

On the other hand I'm not a person who can "appreciate" lose of value of my time when I don't play with high rates. Especially when its x4. Its like, sure I can do something now, it will take an hour to get materials. But I can just wait for weekend and do it in 15 minutes. It spoils satisfaction from a lot of accomplishments and add real life time table into the game way too intrusively for me.

  11. Strange thing. I'm quite sure I'm posting way, way more than 3 times per day. Some mechanism must be at play, but what and why I have no knowledge.
Maybe you posted 3 posts one below another in the same thread? Or something similar?

  12. Terrible launch, lag, tragedy (and slide show) called fountain of youth, nerfs of fun way to play (like fire arrows were first for me, than stone build with organic matter if I remember correctly), completely random deaths (like fleets of kill on sight sotd, whales, i don't remember what else), tone of carnivorous death on sight, unkillable flocks of alphas just after nerf of fire arrows, PvE ship sinking by players when you were offline, sinking ships by sotd when anchored near island, loosing claim because crocodile spawn next to shack, aotd and wolfs spawning inside animal pens and finally wipe... tarrot magic scraped (at least it looks like it)... Still no flying ships yet ( :( )... Claim overlapping... General level of griefing on PvE. Tide of thiefs when someone learned how to glitch into houses...  And this is only what i can come up from top of my head.

All of that had nothing or not so much to do with those 50k people leaving? People left because atlas become too similar/not similar enough to ark?

Edit: Or was marketed as different flavor than it really is?

    Edit 2: typos.

    • A game that doesn't feel like a job in terms of gold/food upkeep for AI.

    • More AI enemies and different factions that are realistic to the lore of it i.e. AI pirates and a Royal Navy that is out trying to catch pirates (even the AI pirates) and if you are able to sink them they have loot on them such as weapons, armor, gold, supplies, etc.

    • Add the possibility of the Royal Navy landing on your shores to kill/capture pirates. Maybe even a "reputation" with them that provokes more aggressive attacks the higher your reputation is. Essentially like a wanted system. Help relieve the pvp griefing when AI is also attacking people that are killing the AI navy.

    • Have animals that are relevant and realistic i.e. cows, horses, parrots, monkeys etc.

    • Limit the number of AI members for a company instead of the insane gold upkeep (which mostly only Megas can keep up with). Make it so it's expensive to recruit them and only takes food to upkeep them and limit it to 10-15 AI per person with a cap of 200 AI in a company or something to that affect.

    • Anti griefing measures which most agree have been resolved already. Thank you for that btw!!!

    None of that for me.

I've quited because all the progress i had was wiped and after how much stress I had from worying about people sinking my ship on PvE, claiming my flags when i was actually active, claim overlapping, what to do when i'm on holidays.... I've decided no more, thanks, not worth it.

I will not be back to atlas mmo part until:
    - my base will be safe from griefers and stupid bending of mechanics upside down to get upper hand.
    - I won't be loosing all the progress mere month or two after starting.
    - I won't have to deal with slide show of youth fountain (or similar thing)
    - rates will be consistent regardless of the day of week (okey, i can understand independence day, or other once per year, once in 6 month bonuses. But every week? No.).
    - they will actually give me an incentive to go back to mmo part now that single player is there.

So probably not before early access finish if ever.
What most of currently playing people are proposing has not that much to do with why I and people like me from PvE quit. More to do with how to keep them still interested.

Floors do not stack as they should .. Should be whole floor block stacking on another .. not a half block

Walls do Not turn the same direction .. even using the " Q " to rotate .. Just tried that .. one side of base walls are facing one direction and they Will Not turn the same direction on the other side .. even using the " Q " or going into fly mode to look from different .

Roofs are about the only thing that is about right and workable.

Also .. with the collision turned OFF .. it isn't great. ( seen better in game that just out and building is a main topic in the game for Many players .. especially in SP )

Floors - it should be half block because half block is smallest distance you can work with (half stairs). its cheap enough. Otherwise you would have to make 4 half-walls and ceiling. 5 elements. Instead you have one. 2 for full height.

Walls turn proper direction, you just need to have proper snap points. Q cycle between snap points so its useless in that regard. "E" key rotate them 180 degree on current snap point. You are using wrong key for that.

Roofs are the biggest problem because of how snapping points are not aligned between roofs and ceiling/foundation. impossibility to snap wooden roofs if you want to create "support" structure for extended ceiling:
    ____
    \     |
      \   |
        \ |
This type of triangle using ceiling, foundation and roof is irritating as hell because of snap points and mesh roof mesh being a bit too big. Not to mention you have to make temporary structures to even make it work in some cases.

Collision turned off works great for me. I would love to see better building system which is not voxel based/minecraft like. I have seen as good one as this. Better? Only in terms of number of content (so number of materials, peaces, etc).

The scale of some of the building pieces is so oversized it's hard to build anything that looks like it would fit into a normal "pirate-y" landscape.  Everything's dino-sized.

Completely disagree with that. From my point of view, only gates are over-sized. Everything else is quite nice and comfortable.

I would love some more variety (double doors? more textures, more types of walls, more window possibilities, glass?, better paint support), easier to distinguish when meshes will properly fit together... But the system is perfectly fine for me.

    edit :
More snapping points for pillars whould also be nice. Like proper snapping for foundation corners. But again, its solvable. I would rather have those kind of limitation than have to deal with decimal point accuracy.

The 2x weekends is imo the only thing that enables some players to actually keep playing. I am away 13h / day for work during the weeks so weekend is only time i can really farm and play more etc. If it was 1x rates on weekends I would lose interest very very fast. Those rates are way, way too low for people with busy real lives, (which should be a lot of people these days).

I've never messed with breeding for same reason, I don't have infinite time to put into game. Often I have to choose on the weekends too: farm materials or go out for Gold upkeep etc.

To conclude: to take away 2x weekends would probably results in many more people fleeing this game, feeling they don't have time for this game anymore, since everything becomes (even more) a time sink.

    Long live 2x weekends!  🙂

I'm basically 10-12 hours at work + housekeeping + wife.... And i'm playing single player on 0.5x rates having tone of fun.

Consistency is way, way more important than anything else.
Playing 3-4 hours during week = 1 hours at most. This kills any hint of accomplishment from gathering/building part of gameplay done during work days - and thats about 80% of what i do in this game.
It was not a reason why i quit in first place - that one goes to griefers and constant fear of them - but its one of reasons why I'm not going back.

  16. Or instead of creating completely new solution, combine old and current.

Islands claims are as is for taxing purposes and building permissions purposes (white-list for people to claim building space). Claiming, loosing stuff stay the same as now.

Add additional, building space claims. 3 building claim per person with restriction of max 1 on single grid. Company building claims stacks non linearly by number of people. 5 persons company - 5 building claims. 20 persons - 7 building claims. 50 persons - 10. 100 persons - 20. Etc. Make company max 1 build claims per grid with increases similar to the number of building claims. Make those building claims twice the square meters of previous ones. Remove sea claims, prevent overlapping completely.  Add ability for the owner of island to destroy building claim before claim exist for 1 or 2 days. Add ability for island owner to destroy claim if owner wasn't on the grid for 3 weeks (2 weeks vacations without net? ) and other white-listed people to claim that thing. PvE - taking over someone else claim destroy all buildings, containers and items in the space. PvP - change ownership of everything in the space.  PvE - first person who started overtaking the claim wins. PvP - old rules of overtaking the claims with counters, etc.

Solves the problem of build spam - you can't spam too far. Solves the problem of inactivity. Fix the biggest problem of old system - overlapping.

Throw in additional "claim type" for island owner called "protected terrain" with small radius. Say 10 per island. Protect resources, prevent people from claiming spots with resources/building there.

Would love to hear holes in this idea.

Edit: throw in new maps spawning only between claims - should be easy enough because no overlapping mean lot of empty space between.
If it will waste too much space, make claim something of a mutation between a circle and rectangle. Easier to stack together. Still leave empty space between.
Edit 2: throw in carnivorous spawning restriction inside building claim - and we have one more headache gone.

Edit 3: Something need to be done about shipyards. For example restrict ability to build shipyards only to the owner of the island (plus make a limit of 5 - 10 per island depending on its size? ). When someone start building a ship - he locks the shipyard for some time required to build ship (like a day? ) if he fails, than bad luck. Shipyard is automatically unlocked when ship is finished?

You simply missed a plank.  People do this all the time.

28 on a schooner, 40 on a brig and I forget how many on a galleon.  I refuse to build/own one due to the upkeep.  Point is they are easily missed.

Them: "I repaired all the planks and checked them twice"

Me:  "I just found one at 1800hp."

    Them:  "Oops"

Like I said it happens all the time.  Some people are worse than others.  I've Watched people checking planks and skip over one.  Maybe something is in the way and its hard to get a proper angle on it, maybe they got distracted.  All I know is I've seen people miss them and lose ships and blame the game then catch the same damn person missing planks on my boats.  Humans.  If it can be fucked up we can fuck it up.   Getting most people to admit that their mistake cost them a ship.....yeah good luck with that one.

Exactly. Every bottom level on schooner  and bigger is a hotspot for mistakes because of how easy it is to miss one looking at upper one, or because chest was in the way when checking from inside.
I've missed one or two so many times during routine maintenance from inside that now i'm always swimming around my ship. Until I won't find anything twice. Carefully. I'm still in awe how often i miss one or two on first swim through. Once in the ages I tended to miss one on second swim around on brigantine.
