  1. I'm pretty sure it's less insane to have 1200 posts in this forum than it is to have 1300 hours in ATLAS, which is what I got

    I'm pretty insane though ngl

Welcome to wildcard..aka grapeshot.. aka snail games.

They post what they want, when they want.  That said.. you could also watch twitter for jeds tweets, he tweets out something almost every day.  So not exactly a blanket of silence.  You need to pull your head out of the sand to see it.

Jat is at GDC and hasn't tweeted all week.

Is he promoting Atlas? I kind of doubt it? Is someone else promoting Atlas in his place? No.

  2. The most unacceptable thing about this patch is not that it took 3 months (and counting). It's not that it was announced poorly. It's not that it completely stalled and then murdered any interest in the game.

The most unacceptable thing is the blanket of radio silence from the community managers. This patch is already way, way, WAY late and there are major aspects and features, in this patch, that we have never seen and know basically nothing about. Entire features that are entirely just question marks.

At this stage in the patch cycle, we should know what's in it. We should have a very solid knowledge of what is happening to the game. We should've been able to tease specific detailed info from either the CMs or the devs themselves, about how specific mechanics will interact together. We should be pretty confident that further major features will not be added to the eventual patch.

It is March 23rd, and we have none of this. The blame rests entirely on Grapeshot for it. They don't talk to us basically at all, let alone enough. Say something. Say anything. Did you get moved to working on another game or something.

No, that's incorrect. There may have been occasional limited battles between megas, but that is not the norm. I know first hand of many quiet agreements made between top 10 alliances to avoid conflict at any cost. And there's simply no possible way that  the Empire server concept is remotely feasible.

I don't even play on pvp so my knowledge here is pretty imperfect, but I can pretty easily name a whole bunch of big fights between top 10s on pvp in the final week before the wipe announcement. Someone who actually plays on pvp could probably name more.

Did you miss the big Dynasty/CSTG attack on Federation where they were fighting for multiple entire days straight, because that was in that week

You're right that Empires is stupid and no one intends to play on it anyway, especially the top 10s, but that's a different topic altogether

  4. One of the most telling things about this patch is something that has occurred since the Captain's Log. In both the K12 discord and the L10 discord, I've had a habit for a while now of complaining about Grapeshot's latest announcements, and this time I didn't say anything at all.

The "March" Mega-patch, the Captain's Log, all the changes that are coming, neither discord has spoken a word about it in the past couple of days. Most of the members don't even know that information was released, because I didn't do my usual thing of letting them know. So they don't. Even still. Because no one cares.

The buzz is truly lost when it comes to this update and probably this game. The PR department, and Grapeshot as a whole too, have majorly dropped the ball and continues to, even right now, to the point where the Atlas reddit just openly insults them now. They messed up.

Empires server will be full, as this is what the majority of the players want.

(Slave) Colonies server will be empty, as the megas have no slaves, these will play Empires because they dont want to be slaves. Thats why Colonies servers will be shut down after one month. Very clear for everyone with a brain that exactly that will happen.

The overwhelming reaction so far is that no one at all is going to play Empires, including the megas

You'll have a lot of land available, pal

I don't know where you got that statistic. All of PvE is around 11% of the total playerbase. Before the "Big Tribes" stopped playing because we literally ran out of stuff to do (Mid Feb) the average daily player base (NA-PvE) was roughly 1.5-2k total players (depending on the day). 20 = 1% of 2000, with 10 tribes you would have 10% right there (Lotus, Atlas Shrugged, Paragon are also substantially bigger than them in terms of member count) .

PVE didn't have 10 zerg tribes, though. It might've had five. Also the zerg tribes it did have were absolutely minuscule compared to their PVP counterparts

PVE players overwhelmingly don't play in that big tribe style. I put over a thousand hours into PVE and my only interactions with big tribes was to say hi to Orion and to tell some idiots in Lotus that their builds were incredibly ugly. I put about a hundred hours into PVP and I knew the name of every big tribe, knew people in most of them, and had interacted with just about all of them. Including the non-English ones. It's not the same.

To my understanding more players want the whole island system. Big tribes wanted 1 island claims, the smaller tribes wanted 1 claim per person. What was unanimous was no freebuild on claims.

On PVE, "big tribes" make up a single digit percentage of the playerbase. Not even a high single digit, either. Orion regularly hit #1 for months and at their height only had like, 20 regular dudes.

Why keep up NA and EU? Just merge those servers. This way the population would be higher and you wouldn't have those times when nearly no one is online. Right now we are a mixture of NA, Eu and Asia anyway on the NA server.

Also the "NA" server is hosted in Germany anyway

  9. This Captain's Log is so lacking in actual substantive information that I've really gotta question why it was four days late.

The future of Atlas currently has a very serious problem where there are too many unanswered questions and too few concrete answers. And since this Captain's Log actually reduced the number of concrete answers we had, and raised plenty of new questions, it actually makes the current problems worse, not better.

  10. I can understand the database changes that are going to be happening that will necessitate a fullwipe. Moving islands, adding islands, re-shuffling everything, sure.

But I think that you, the developers, have done some bad design that makes wiping the game very very punishing to newer players and small groups, such that a lot of the solo players and small groups that have been clamoring for a wipe do not fully understand what is going to happen.

I am not in any way joking or exaggerating when I say it's going to be very possible for a solo player, who understands the secrets of this game, to be level-capped with a fully-built galleon by the end of day 1. It is possible. I will be doing it. Without exploiting.

Meanwhile, the average solo player or even small group will not be able to get things done anywhere near that quickly, because of the small details and tricks and secrets in this game that they are not aware of. And your average newbie will be lucky to hit level 51 by the end of the first month, something most experienced players won't have any trouble at all doing within the first day.

I guess what I'm saying is that this game rewards clever experimentation almost too much, because when it comes to gather rates and such the highs are too high.

There are still mindblowing, game-affecting secrets I am still learning even at 1177 hours in this game. I will give the developers quite a lot of credit though for making a system that rewards curiosity this much.

  11. I'm curious what I can get my galleon farm time down to with 6x anarchy mode

My last attempt during 2x went from empty box to full-galleon in 122 minutes, and I made a number of errors and was also missing a couple of important gathering buffs

This will inform me on how much time I'll need to farm for on day-one post-wipe to get a galleon made before day-one ends

NOPE... I'm on PVE.... The 2 other people I play with and I haven't ventured more than 2 squares out of lawless, but sure I'd LOVE to sit forever to NOT get an expiring claim because I don't have the resources or time to npc camp some mega company's throw away claim.

(did you detect the sarcasm? )

We have our own private Ark server, 7 Days to Die server, Empirion server, Space Engineers server, and Minecraft server.... We voluntarily wipe our hard work every so often and start from scratch. It's fun with a new challenge.

Cry babies who didn't expect a wipe are entertaining.

    o ok

well like I said, pve has had tropical land claims available for weeks, what's stopping you now

  13. 16 minutes ago, Hattrix said:

    Awesome!!!!!!  Best news!

Now I can find a nice tropical land to claim.

I'm laughing at all of the cry babies complaining about losing all of their hard work.

    🤣🤣🤣

if you manage to get that pvp tropical land you want (pve has had tropical land claims available for weeks, so I assume you aren't pve), then you get to be the crybaby next wipe

  14. Yeah I'm not really complaining about entertainment, I do have 1200 hours in this game and if the game became worthless tomorrow I'd still consider my money well spent

Also my friend on pve who did get banned did actually buy the game again, so you're not wrong

though to be fair, that friend who did re-buy the game has now quit the game due to the imminent wipe, along with all of my other pve friends, I am the only one left out of hundreds when you include the K12 discord and the various trade discords

  15. hey Grapeshot, can you do one more 2x weekend before the servers die

last weekend I was able to solo-farm 125k fiber, 125k wood, 125k thatch, 1200 hide, 3000 metal (everything to build a galleon) in 122 minutes, but if you let me run another 2x test I think I can get it down to 90 minutes instead

    tia

  16. pve has plenty of land to live, right now at this very moment. I found land the other day that had no flags at all, 10 minutes and I had it, no declaim necessary

pve is already in a situation though where it has more islands than players, and this wipe is only going to make that worse, so this lawless-everywhere idea is totally unnecessary and also allows a shitload of griefing

  17. pve does not need or benefit from a wipe, though even if you backtrack on it now the mere threat of it has already caused my various partners via various trade discords to all quit the game en-masse and they will not be back regardless of whether you wipe or not

wipes also very much do not benefit small groups or solo players, because these are the players most likely to not know the various tricks that exist to capitalize on others' mistakes, and those mistakes can be punished extremely severely even on pve, and will be even easier to do with the planned changes
