  1. There's a common misconception held by officials-players that if unofficial servers didn't exist, those players would instead play on official and therefore officials would have more people.

This is largely untrue. My 1400 hours in Atlas were on official servers but even I know that. People who choose to play unofficials have good reasons for doing so and if the option weren't available it's more likely, a lot more likely, that they would play something else instead. Something that isn't Atlas.

  2. Lawless isn't supposed to be hard to settle, it is a viable place for new people to hang out in and you can stay as long as you want as long as you are willing to play by the rules

What isn't intended is entire islands getting pillar spammed by one person, which was why you had the lawless-only structure radius reduction stealth change and then when that didn't solve the problem enough they stealth reduced structure radius AGAIN, by a gigantic 50% each time

Lawless is absolutely an option for people to live in, but the nature of the auto-repper means that if you want to pillar a whole lawless island you will need to maintain a disgusting amount of structures and making it that annoying will ensure that way fewer people do it

The only reason lawless is going to be irrelevant on pve is that pve is going to have so few players that anyone who actually wants land will be able to get it. The other servers will have few players too, but those pvp servers don't have the same claim limits pve will. Lawless is not actually straight-up intended to be irrelevant or impossible to settle in

  3. You guys are really doomsaying unreasonably here.

If people pillar spam hugely, you can build all you want in lawless where pillar spam is no longer realistically possible

If you want to own land, it's pretty much impossible to stop you since there won't be enough people to claim all the islands and it won't actually be possible for the entire world to be claimed, with the new caps

    The end

  4. The last few pages of this thread are a goofy pipe dream. A game company is not going to spend valuable resources "moderating" which groups have more friends than they are allowed to have. Sorry guys you have too many friends, please eliminate three. No.

Also, even if they did, the moment a group gets suspended or banned for the crime of attacking an island in an MMO about attacking islands is the moment they ignite a horrible PR fiasco of their own making that they would have a lot of difficulty escaping.

  5. The official servers population has actually been increasing for the past couple weeks and I haven't really figured out why. Right now the combined officials are 1244 people and that's with an entire server missing. We're a far cry from the days where NA PVE would consistently drop below a hundred.

Last night was the first time in 1400 hours of Atlas that I actually ragequit the game in disgust. I lost a fully-loaded schooner with over a hundred thousand coins on it a few days ago to hitting invisible walls in the middle of the ocean (which is a bug I've lost other ships to before), and last night when I built a new boat to go out again, sailed a decent length to get to a cool new island, and after spending two hours on that island I immediately lost everything on me to the climber-pick instant-death bug.

I've lost a lot of things to bugs in this game, but that was the first actual rage quit. Wasn't even that big a loss.

Only PvE’ers care about a wipe. Only PvE’ers care about the most unbalanced thing in this game (animals) and only PvE’ers like the ‘cosmetics’ so that’s why they also don’t want the FoY. And we gotta deal with that.

If only PVE players care about a wipe, why does NA PVE have more players on it than NA PVP right now, when before the wipe announcement the pvp server would have double or even more

The problem is in the logic. Deva should stop thinking about making everyone happy. This isn’t even a subscription game. They should shutdown support for private servers and make one game type. One community would be the best thing and what this game needs. The community is way to fragmented.....unless my theory is correct and everything going on right now is but a simple poll to test for the most fun/popular game type. Devs may be simple waiting for the most fun version of the game to appear and then they will grasp onto that for the live final version.

You should probably read this thread

  7. I don't actually hate or hold anything against pvpers at all. I have 1300 hours on pve but I am also an officer in a top 5 company on pvp at the same time, because I brought over a lot of ideas to them that we use on pve that they hadn't a freaking clue about. The two sides are actually quite able to work together and anyone who doesn't see that is missing something.

But our goals and objectives and playstyles are absolutely not the same, and are never going to be the same. My pvp friends have asked me easily more than a hundred times to play pvp fulltime with them post-wipe, and that answer is still no, because I'm not interested. I don't enjoy the game in the same way that they do. And this is okay.

  8. I do not think there is a way to create one server for all that would actually entice both sides, without being extremely exploitable, no.

I have seen questions and suggestions about this, quite a lot of them in fact, but most of them are drawn up by pvpers who design a system that I as a carebear would not be interested in. I'm sure if I drew up a system it wouldn't really appeal to them either. The rare few suggestions that attempt to legitimately appeal to both would end up tremendously exploitable, like this one. Just reading your post I can see dozens of ways pvpers would use that pve protection to exploit the pvp intentions of the game, and vice versa, too.

No better games that are huge world, pirates, sandbox, pvp. You are wrong in that regard.

Maybe you like arena apex, or WoW but I don't  Outlaws is not even close to a decent game. ANd I sure as hell aren't talking about solo player games.

Honestly, there could be total 1,000 players and this game would still be good. Everyone so upset because its not in the steam top 10. As long as there is pvp to be had, sandbox style building and pirating, its a fun game. You don't need 20k people to agree with you.

Tell me how many open world, huge map territory control pvp pirate games there are out there?

Uh I have no idea, placing that many criteria on your list is kind of stupid.

You know what is on the steam top 10 though? With tens of thousands of players at all times, compared to the pittance that Atlas gets?

    ARK: Survival Evolved

    lmao

And we're talking like there are better games to play out there? There's not.

Uh what, there were like 8 games on free weekend this weekend, in addition to two very big new releases, in addition to some very good games getting major updates

That was just this weekend, and doesn't include recent stuff like the big div2 launch, or the big KF2 event coming next week

Atlas has a steep uphill battle convincing players to come back to choosing Atlas over the absolute smorgasbord available right now, don't get it twisted

  11. The original atlas launch was a catastrophic bungle of a failure to the point where someone at steam manually removed atlas from the top sellers list because it was getting refunded too many times.

The re-launch couldn't possibly be worse than that, right? So far it is.

  12. If it takes you more than 30 minutes to gather the resources for a brig during 2x, as a solo player, you are doing it wrong

The resource rates in this game are absolutely jacked way past reasonable and even galleons aren't expensive to solo players anymore, and I'm not even talking about the current 6x

Just saying it's a question of timing.  Right at this moment, if they promote it and people come check it out... they'll see a server full of taken land, ghost ships everywhere, with a wipe coming any day now and a patch that hasn't even been tested yet.

Imagine you buy a horribly broken down house with the intention of fixing it up, making it great, and then flipping it for a great profit.  Wouldn't you want to finish the work before you put the house on the market?

Otherwise, people who come to your house are going to say "wow, this is awful, what were you thinking?"  Or, they'll say "well, good luck, call us if you ever manage to do this."  etc.

There'll be time for promotion, absolutely, I'm just saying right now isn't it.

You can promote the patch and hype the patch and TELL PEOPLE WHAT IS IN THE PATCH without encouraging them to come check it out right now. At this point in the patch cycle we should understand how a lot of the new mechanics are going to interact. We don't even know what a lot of the new mechanics are.

All they've managed to do this month is string along the few players who do still care, while not actually giving them a lot of real information about the future of this game. I understand the reason for this - the reason is because the developers keep changing their minds and even they don't have a really strong plan here either. But that's not very okay.

They have been working on it for three months? Where do you get these numbers? Three months ago they were not working on this system. I bought the game roughly mid January. There were no plans for this revamp then. They were happily chugging along with the old system then.

The first rumblings of a major big patch, with features like the new biome, secure trading system, guillotine, etc, that was definitely back in January.

And you really think this moment is the best time to be promoting Atlas?  Really?

You don't think, maybe, oh I don't know, hold off promoting until after PTR, after wipe and new systems are good and stable?

Good G*d people, get a hobby for a little while.  Advance your careers before you get sucked back into the game again.  Catch up with old friends.  Take the dog out.

When there's news, we'll get news.

Uh, yes? They have been working on this patch for three months. It has a lot of things in it. It has things in it that the players don't even know anything about yet, but we know they exist, because they have been mentioned as major patch features.

Why don't players know anything about these things? Because the people who should be promoting the game and creating hype for the patch, have not been. The hype machine for this patch should've started weeks ago. It is a re-launch of the entire game. We should not be in the dark about how it will go, but we very much are.

  15. You really don't need to make those pve sections quite as big as 5x5, given that heavy-duty pve players like me would want absolutely nothing to do with your server idea.

Also Eve is a terrible, terrible game and no dev team anywhere should be looking at emulating its parade of failures.

  16. It really depends on the kind of animal more than anything. Some animals need major warmth but unfortunately deserts aren't really the good spot for doing it because of the big changes in temp you see over the course of the day there. Deserts in Atlas can go from 140 F to 30 F in under five minutes.
