  1. The food system I like and I use it all the time.

My ships are fully stocked with cooked fish, milk, cooked foods, vegs like rice, olives and fruits.  Both Salted fruits, fish and meat as well as primes.

Usually I go for spicy rolls for the cold buff, since I'm in arctic alot and it's handy for wrecks there.  Even tho I have 60 fortitude now and a mw fur suit.  And the water fortitude as well.

I'd like to see fruit trees added, as well as higher yield crop plots, with a massive increase in plant growth/fruit time, the current speed is just too fast.

I'd also like to see more simple combination meals, like puddings using milk, eggs etc with the more generic herbs.

As well as maybe a drink using limes.

And more severe effects for alcohol.  Melting screens, spinning environments.

As for player death penalty, it needs to be added back into the game.. but not as slow as it was before.

They also need to add a very severe penalty for eating poo to suicide.  Maybe something like a Weakened effect for 15-20mins after suiciding, + reductions in harvesting, melee, ranged skills, like reloading cannons or gun speeds.

Maybe a big reduction in fortitude ie - 50% of current fort.

Of course, people will find ways around this, like getting killed by animals etc.  Or by fellow company members.  So we need more severe death penalties for these deaths as well.

The original poisoning system was good, it was just too tedious.. and it made dying a very slow and boring period, the current system is a little better.  However being unable to jump etc due to a broken bone and thus unable to get to the food or medikits or onboard your ship because of buggy glitchy ladders etc.. isn't particularly helpful either.

Overall tho.. food and cooking is good.  Great for game immersion, those who don't use it, I guess are just playing for the quick action console game.. which frankly, I find boring.

Thus I don't use gamma cheats, poo cheats etc unless I really have no choice.  ie When I get the sailing bug, where you don't get hungry and your vits drop to nil.. so when I get to 50% health, I'll eat poo then just to speed up the process.  I don't use gamma cheat at all, infact, I have gone the opposite way and dropped my gamma to 2.3 it makes nights alot darker, thus the game is alot more difficult to play.

  2. Temperate Seas need more storms.. Tundra is all fog/cold fronts/sotd Artic is sotd/fog/sperm whales, Equatorial is all heat waves, storms, cyclones, fog, cyclones, cyclones..

Temperate seems to be calm sea.. no wind.  Last 3 hours sailing sound N4-N6 so slow.. 6 knots.. calm wind, some fog, no sotd.. every night it's 3.5 knots for me, gally + 4 racks.. fun dodging sotd.. but hard to stay awake otherwise.  I actually tried the fishing net and it told me I was going too slow!!

12 hours sailing so far.. N8 to N2 to A1 and back to N8.. slow going.. although from N2 to A1 I got 14knots.. wish I got that all the time but it wouldn't realistic.. but neither is this 3-5knots all the time either.

That said.. 7.8 knots.. wowee.. I'm flying along now.. 😞 Trying to catch flotsam from top of my handling sail just to stay awake.

  3. SSDs are yesterday mate.  And your pc build is a joke, I just thought you could benefit from my experience, but clearly not, you're a picnic and that'll be your ongoing downfall.

32 gb of ram.. at best you'll crash from memory leaks less.. that's about the only advantage you'll ever see.

    Quote

Because the Pentium g4620 being only a dual core

You said it.  Nobody even writes software for dual cores anymore.

The reason ssds are decent is because they are basically ram in drive form.  They can generally transfer at the same speed as the bus and ram, at the output of the cpu.  Hdds on the other hand might run slower, but can generally hold vast amounts of data and are extremely cheap for doing so.

But the new rage.. are micro ssds on a stick.   These are even faster than ssds.  But such speed isn't really needed for gaming.  Esp not for ea's.

Like the Samsung 970 Evo Plus series.  It's basically a ssd on a card.

Why because the reason most gamers are PC gamers is because of the ability to upgrade...

Granted there are still some limitations like the CPU form factor only being maintained for so long on generations of mother boards!

But as a person who built PC's for a living 5K - 10K is just crazy talk...

With 5K I could Triple SLI some of the most expensive video cards, have mineral water cooling the best board on the market maxed out RAM and still have change left over!

The reason people pay 5K or 10K for Computers is because they are computer DUMB and can't build there own computer! They buy things like (ALIENWARE) < $1000+ for the name and a couple of .25 cent sticker on the case!

Heck computer Dumb people can go to a nearby Fry's electronics and they will put it together for you at a reasonable price and help you pick out every piece to put in it...

No you can easily build a capable mid range gaming computer for less then 1000 dollars and for less then 2000 a high end gaming computer!

    My rig for example:

    MSI B250M Gaming Pro $60

    Pentium G4620 $110

    32 gig ram $160

    4 Terabyte HD $80

    1070TI $250

Windows 7 ($100) - already had this but windows will range typically from 100-150 depending on Home or Prof

688 Dollar build granted I live near a Fry's Electronics so I have easy access to parts but anyone can use

Newegg or Fry's Online and get similiar deals!

I am constantly recording videos with OBS while I am Playing, plus running TeamSpeak and chatting and typically uploading to Youtube all at the same time with no issues, while typically running a high graphics.

Ack Left out the Case and Power supply!!!!

Antec 900 $80 (Granted I have had this case for several different builds)

    Antec Earthwatt 550 Gold $80

So tack on another 160 dollars for a new total of $848

So your thought process that a gaming PC is 5000 dollars is a bit on the extreme end...

Pentium G4620 $110 Poor bottleneck making the rest of the pc slow.

You'd essentially be wasting money buying 32gb of ram or a 1070.. as the cpu would slow down the entire system.

Best way I've found is decide how much you're spending.  Buy the best mb and cpu you can afford, pair it with 16gb ram unless you intend to be doing some serious video editing or semi server gaming, ie hosting mp games etc.  And a midrange video card.  And win10 pro.  Which is usually the cheapest version oddly, since pro comes with apps that should really be in home version.  If you can afford it, buy the business version.  You can shop around for win10pro there's plenty of places selling keys for under $20.  If you look.  Midrange vc if you intend to be playing Ea's etc as the Ea's usually aren't setup for cutting edge tech deployed in newer vc's.  They can even sometimes hamper your gameplay.

And stay away from watercooling etc.. as that needs to be maintained.. otherwise the gel degrades overtime as does your output etc.

I'd normally pay upto around £80 for mb, £350 for cpu and £180 for vc.  Keep old box, hdd, cd/dvd rom if it still works.

Decent silver psu for £40-60 (don't get the eco versions) that covers max output of mb, cpu, vc and ram at minimum settings.  So around £620 for a pc.  My current is worth around £800.  Although they sent me 32gb of ram I only bought 16. 🙂

I can understand why people use consoles,I use the xbox controller for all my pc games,The thing that put me off consoles years ago was how often they started becoming obselete and how quick the next one came out, that and the inability to play older games.then xbox live just so I could play online, and I also hate what microsoft do in the gaming industry,.the only thing they have going for them is their customer services are really good. As for windows,I only wish there was a decent alternative. But every individual has the right to spend their money where they think best. tbh not everyone, especially with a house and family has that much spare cash.

Yeh the thing for me is console is just plug n play, but many games get massive nerfs to gameplay to make them compatible or the pc version is so utterly dumbed down, so both versions are easily patched.

Whilst there's an obvious montary value to developers to sell to both platforms, it has utterly ruined quality in gaming for the pc.  Whilst at the same time, massively improved gameplay for both ps and xbox, in that there are rules devs must follow for each platform, which result in heavy fines if not obeyed.  This in turn tends to create a perfect patch system as devs don't want to pay those extra charges, but it also creates a delayed patching system, as it takes awhile for each update/patch to be verified and tested.  So players loose out, having to wait longer etc.

The pc versions however, cannot be similarly enforced, due to the nature of pc's having to many different industry standards, oem versions etc. Would make compatibility issues impossible to enforce or even legislate to.  With xbox/ps the console is very specific hardware and easy to be developed to.

So in short, consoles games look rubbish, but tend to be better maintained.  Since there's only really 1-2 of each hardwares to deal with.

Pc games look amazing, but tend to poorly maintained.  And often unoptimised, because everyone is using 500 different video cards on 1000 different motherboards, with 350 different cpu's and ram sticks.  Not to mention a half dozen different operating systems.  Then there's a state of each individual pc in it's own maintenance, viral and various other issues, overclocking, misinformed overclocking, picnics and so on.

And of course.. the people who spend $1500 on a pc expecting it to work perfectly.. in an EA that is designed for pc's made 5 yrs before theirs.

  6. Well it's improved over yesterday, only 2.5 pages of spam.

its not decks its planks, if you dont have all the planks in ,certain spots dont want to snap tiles in place especially at the front. also sometimes i get a tile that wont snap in (orange)and if i turn away from the spot all 0f a sudden it turns blue for a fraction of a second, i have to wiggle it until i get it to snap as it briefly turns blue sometimes it takes 5 minutes annoying but i havent had an impossible one yet

Yeh I have same issues, didn't figure it to the planks.. so place decks, fit the sails, fit the ceilings/stairs.. then add planks?

  8. Doesn't matter if you have 1 deck or all decks.  Still 1 on top deck that will not place and several above and below.  I cannot place anything in front of my front sail at all, except ladders/roof tiles and pillers.

Then there's this bug.. a new one for me.  Apparently a well known issue.

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1794190035

Then there's the ladder bugs, with both rope and wood ladders, unable to get onto the decks properly.  I suppose all those bugs are fixed pressing Q as well..

    Galleons are broken models.

  9. This is driving me and others up the wall.  Unable to place foundations.

Unable to place ceilings individually. Able to place stairs..

Please get this long running bug fixed. Or explain why it hasn't ie you have an intention to replace ships etc down the line.

  10. Base maintenance.. includes removing/sinking uneeded ships as well as destroying useless tames. It'll really help with your local lag and help visitors alot too, both good and bad tho.

One of our guys found an abandoned bear farm.. and claimed some 150 bears.. now I have them farming mythos in arctic.   Amazing how much space bears take up in a gally..and the yeti's are slowly killing them off.

  11. Yeh and after last nights "maintenance period" it looks like they're taking the website down as well.  Forums were inaccessible for an hour or so with no explaination.  Then all this bot spam.. I know it sounds kinda racist.. but I'd suggest testing new posts against keywords in manderine/korean etc and either autoblocking them or move them to their own little spam forum.  Let them spam in peace and put a high deletion or manual thread deletion in the forum, depending how you setup.  It is unfortunate that this will possibly catch legit posters, but it would completely remove the spam.  Or else require new accounts to exist for 24 hours, before they can post, then check new accounts against filters or limit posts to 1 per hour for all of us.. I'm sure people would like that of me.

  12. Raising melee raises intelligence on my crow.. maybe your crow is borked.

That said.. putting 1 pt into melee does indeed raise it's level.. so I dunno. I  read a post somewhere saying put into melee to raise int.  But either way.. I have a rockin crow.. that is both smart and kill stuff quick.

    Hello all

I am breeding crows, to hope to get a high level one for the intelligence boost. but i was wondering why i should imprint them, on animals you ride i understand it, they got stronger, and when you use them they get also the imprinting buff. but what about animals like seagulls, crows, chickens, rabbits. is imprinting just a waste of time on them??

    Bless blessss, Tella

I would say it's worthwhile, if the bird uses melee for example to raise it's buff level.. ie if imprinting raises melee.. do it.. you get a better crow.. otherwise.. not so much.

There is a legit way to glitch structures that makes them almost impossible to damage, like you have invisible walls in front of them, you have a super narrow angle you have to find in order to do damage. It's very hard, we've dealt with it numerous times when attacking people, wether it is intentional or unintentional, it wastes a lot of ammo when you are hitting behemoth gates or regular walls and doing 0 damage until you hit it from the right angle.

This is why this stuff needs to be posted as bug reports.. until people do so, detailing how it is done.. it won't be fixed.

  15. They are permitted 4 spams per hour or whatever it is, multiple bots are allows to spam too.

Nothing wrong with it, the problem is when 1 spam bot is spamming 500 posts.. At the moment it's managable.. until they do region locks.. it'll always be an issue.  This is the question.. get minted by easten banks.. but have to deal with constant spam and advertising.. which really doesn't bother you, just your western players.. or only sell to western banks.. and get moderately polite forums.

It’s not uncommon for hardcore players to cluster together in guilds in online games. They often do so because they feel if they play with more casual players, then they are pulling most of the load for others who are free riding off their greater productivity in game. The fact your guild mates play a lot represents observation bias in your perspective of Atlas’s playerbase.

It is fortunate that you are not a primary  decision maker in the design process because Atlas is already struggling without the arbitrary policy you’ve just put forward of ignoring the preferences of more casual players. Since their money is as good as yours, I can’t see this being a good business policy. As it happens, after a cursory google search there is a recent and relevant academic paper on research into gaming behavior that includes average MMO playtimes.

    https://www.iis.sinica.edu.tw/~swc/pub/wow_player_game_hours.html

The authors used WOW for their research and since it’s the largest game within the same genre, can certainly be considered comparable for purposes of this discussion. Note that on the very first page under section 4.3 daily activities, the paper indicates that most players log in for between 1 to 5 hours per day on the days that they play. Not all days, just the ones they play.

Thus your assertion that people who play less than 4 hours per day shouldn’t even be considered would very likely lead a majority of players preferences ignored. After 15 years of MMO gaming however, I am unsurprised that a hardcore gamer wants his wishes catered to while being dismissive of others. Sadly I have found this underlying attitude to be all too common within that demographic.

I have a better idea.. there. Sorted. Cya.

Are you serious? Honestly you should be ashamed writing something like this. Take some days off - go outside and think about what you just wrote here. This sentence tells more about your life and your bad lifedecissions then being any valid argument to the discussion.

What you don't know, is that I can't readily go outside.. or I would.  My point is, I play more.. he plays less.  He wants the game changed to suit him.  I don't.  Bad life decisions.. a pipe landed on me.  But thanks for your perspective.

    1 hour ago, boomervoncannon said:

Very simple answer: because you’re not remotely reflective of the typical player. It’s exceedingly common sense that games should be designed to accommodate the most typical player.  Most people do not have 12-14 hours per day available to devote to playing a game, let alone have the desire to do so. Designing your game to cater only to people who do would be a very poor business decision because you represent a small fraction of the market.

Now that we’ve established that for common sense business reasons the game should be designed for all of us and not you as a minority, if your play style doesn’t fit that, that’s your fault not ours. Why should our gameplay be affected because you have nothing else to do with your life?

That's really odd, since the active guys in my company, all are online a minimum of 8 hours.. some as much as me.  And they work for a living..

People who cannot play for 4 hours or more, shouldn't even be counted. Nor should people who turn up every weekend or once in a blue moon.

And if you think my hours are bad.. god.. wait until you find out about account sharing and people being active 24/7 with several people playing on the same account allowing companies to rapidly expand, tame, build etc.

You have no clue.. about what's really going on.
