  1. Offline raiding: it's the bane of persistent PvP world games with player-owned structures, and it's especially annoying in Atlas, where anchored ships are completely at the mercy of one naked knucklehead with an explosive barrel. So, how about this...

Once a ship drops anchor, players have the option to put their ship into Harbored mode.  After 60 minutes, the Harbored ship goes into 'hardened mode' (like stations in EVE), and all damage is reduced by 90%. Hardened/harbored mode ends when the anchor is raised. To prevent abuse, harbored ship guns cannot be fired and beds do not work. You're effectively putting the ship into armored stasis while you're offline.

  2. I've been playing MMO's since UO, and I can say with confidence that the Atlas FoY mechanic is possibly the single most asinine, inept and poorly implemented game mechanic in the history of gaming. Let's all naked-zerg a random island filled with elite mobs - because if we don't, our characters will be hit with a permanent debuff! Out of the dozen people we started with, we've lost five - in each case, the FoY mechanic was the breaking point.

I'm not advocating violence or anything... but whoever suggested the current FoY system should have been backhanded immediately, and certainly fired before the end of the design meeting.

  3. I agree that 'number of land claims' doesn't necessarily correspond to "top companies". Granted, from a dev's standpoint, counting claims is the easiest implementation of a ranking system; but it also tends to make those smaller companies (who massacre the "top companies" in PvP regularly) a bit salty.

IMO, it would be better to rank company PvP achievements in multiple categories, each with a unique reward. For example:

    - Most claims

    - Best player kill to death ratio

    - Best ship kill to death ratio

    - Most enemies captured

    - Most ships captured

    etc.

Great now the stone walls cost is absurd and you made them easier to break down.

Surely that will help people engage in online PvP and not just offline raiding, right? haha

With every patch I lose faith in this game.

Exactly. With the cost changes, stone durability should have increased.

  5. The OP has some good suggestions that a diligent crew should seriously consider before leaving well-traveled seas and venturing into the domain of the Damned.

Hmm? Oh, that's right - the ghost ships don't exist in some far-flung high level areas... they're EVERYWHERE! Right now, ghost ships are cruising off the shore of EVERY island, haunting the waves just outside of every newbie island, massing between you and that island with all the chickens, and one is probably pulling into your dock as we speak to take your daughter out on a date.

Sure, if you've min/maxed your sloop and have experienced players manning the sails, and everyone is at five-cappuccino-alert-level then yes, you might be able to not die instantly and lose 12 hours of work.

Right now, there are two types of players venturing out to explore the world in anything larger than a raft: those who've accepted that doing so is likely suicidal, but they go anyway... and those who haven't yet realized the futility of doing so - but will within the next 10 minutes. Bottom line: ghost ships are making Atlas not fun.
