what location is that ? lawless or neutral ?
ghost ships are a mess. they should rare encounters. the rest should be other, normal ships.

back in the seafaring days the number of trade ships and such vastly outnumbered military and pirate vessels.
    the game should reflect that.

I'm not in Lawless of Freeport newbie zones, I'm on a "wild" island.  I don't know how to refer to the non-Freeport and non-Lawless islands... is there a corrects term anyone?

no place where i did not lose my raft even if i did not enter an island... thats why im stuck on on freeport with like 10 rafts full with mats unable to progress...

Out of curiosity, how do you plan to get 10 rafts out with the decay system?  Plus, no offence, but the reason why we have a decay system is the multiple rafts clogging up the place.

well that sux, what's the point in a lawless area then?  I just built a ton of stuff, chopped wood, mined, harvested, killed animals, and my XP went up very very little.  So what's the point?

It's just a slightly different newbie zone.  You need to sail to a "real" island to be able to claim, build, find your corpse and use beds.

  4. You didn't mention doorframe, so, when placing a wall press T to cycle though until the wall changes to a doorframe, window, whatever.  Same with roofs, too, to see different shapes. Pardon me if you DO have the doorframe in place and it is bugged, but you were a tiny bit unclear.  🙂

Well have to voice frustration somewhere.  Two nights ago got swarmed by a wash of giant snakes.  Lost my raft, lost my worldly possessions.  Remained calm....

Last night, took a deep breath....started from home island from scratch, spent until 3am collect resource to go on a raft trip.  Just logged in, raft gone along with an evenings worth of material collection.

Angry right now doesn't cut it.  Infact no emotion cuts it.  I'm without emotion.  There are a number of things that HAS to change.

    1) you don't lose your crap when you die in starter zones.  That's bad.
    2) remove raft / ship decay whilst in safe zones.
    3) sort out the land claim.
    4) sort out the creature zerg when you land on a beach somewhere.  I died to a swarm of 9 giant snakes?  what is that about?
    5) PvE is supposed to be PvE.  Why is it players are waiting for me to die, then looting my body before I can spawn back and collect my stuff (just angering me further)

It's beyond mind boggling right now.

Decided to rent a server.  Right now regular servers are unplayable, or, so infuriating that I can't handle the wasted time.

    1)  Nope.  Starter zones have an easy time gathering stuff and it would be bad if it was packed with Galleons and other ships filling up with resources.  BAd for new players, bad for server lag.

    2)  Nope.  People need to be out and into "proper" zones asap, not parked there for days/weeks.  See 1)

    3)  Yes. It needs to definitely a 3-day timer with no unexplained "stealing" a claim before that.

    4)  Most definitely yes.  Shipe of the Damned too.  I have 2 of them so close to my raft I can almost walk right up to one of them along the beach.

    5)  Needs sorting, yes.  EVERYTHING in the game a player owns should be lockable from the outset, including their corpse.

Nope, I was in a lawless zone.

That IS a newbie zone.  They were opened up as newbie zones to ease server strain, and shipping takes increased decay damage there too, plus while you can build you cannot claim land.  In the "wild" zones, where you can both claim and build, ship decay is minimal

Stupid game mechanic, as I said.  People DO NOT need an incentive like that in order to get out and explore, and find someplace to settle.  BUT, they need someplace to park their ship when they are trying to find someplace.  And, there is no real way to protect these ships when you log off.  That WILL kill the game.  These are not ugly ARK bases.  They are romantic sailing era ships.  DO NOT underestimate how attacked people will get to these ships.  Not to mention that people want to sail on these ships, not constantly have to rebuild them because they get wrecked every other time they take them out to sea.  And what do you do when all you can do is park it near shore, on an island with a 5 dozen other Companies doing the same thing?  It's not like you have a secret bat cave to hide them in.  Mega Companies are going to wreck your ship while you are off line.  Oh, NPC's manning cannons?  Cannons don't swivel.  Not the big ones.  All they have to do is stay towards the bow or stern where the cannons aren't pointing.

Maybe bring in some sort of Docking Fee which makes your ship invulnerable to decay?

Wrong.  We anchored at a Freeport because there were no claims to be had, and the Ships of the Damned were killing everything.  This Brigantine almost decayed away in less than 1 day.  That is absurd, so don't blame absurd game mechanics on player ignorance.

Freeport and Lawless are newbie zones with accelerated rates of ship decay, to encourage people to head out and start exploring and building.  A 10k Raft will be destroyed in 10 hours, for example, without constant repairs.

  9. No idea if you had the same problem as I did one day.  However, just in case you do...

In Steam, go to the top of the screen and select View, then Servers, then Favourites.  Find an Atlas server with room for players (if there's any listed since you haven't really been on a server, just tried entering one) and select it, and then click Connect.  That did the trick for me.  Hope it does for you.

  10. Oddly, things were great last night with spawns, which was a nice change.  Today, not so much, though not as bad as when I arrived on the island yesterday.  Three Crocs attacked me on my raft, I killed one then had to flee in the hopes of kiting them away.  They were stuck on the mast though.  As I pelted up the beach three Crocs (one a 226 Alpha) and a Giant Snake were chasing me.  Fun times.  😄

  11. Almost lost my raft out in the wilds, for some mysterious reason.  Logged in to find my 3 small boxes gone but the contents on the raft.  The raft was under 2k in health.  Something must have really attacked the boat in the couple of hours I was offline, and this is PvE by the way!!  I repaired things, built boxes and logged out for 30 minutes.  When I logged back in there were two Ships of the Damnednear me, one about 60 yards away, the other about 100 yards.  I knew they ignore rafts so was just enjoying the view.  😄

I've stopped PvP until they get a few wrinkles ironed out, because what with mob spawns being erratic (last night fine, today a bit crazy), and Ships of the Damned having a beach holiday and the land claim system being wonky there's enough to handle without other players as well.

Yes, because of the weight of the water?

Yep, but the silly thing is they say fill it at a pool for sea voyages.  But tricky when you can't lift it.  The sensible thing would be to let people roll it along.  🙂

About the weight of the barrels .. i think 550kg is way too much, given the fact that a barrel can only fill 5 waterskins.

Exactly.  I can carry 5 waterskins no problem, so the water in the skins isn't 100kg each.  Definitely a bug.

  13. Some resources just don't exist in some zones.  In Temperate zones I have played in there's no Sap, Sugar Cane or Syrup, so nobody has tried Fishing, for example.  There's a guy who has a thread he started in which he lists the zones and the resources there.  He's my hero.  😄

Server reboot and my boat is gone, I am dead, I lost everything... I'm on a PVE server and I logged out safely, anchored off the coast of an island.

It's kind of like a slow burn lag,  instead of rubber banding back a few steps every couple seconds I reset back to the beginning of the game every 10 hours

You're in a newbie zone, aren't you. Rafts take decay damage and destruct in 10 hours to stop people parking there too long farming resources. Get out of the Lawless/Freeport newbie zones asap.

If you want to keep the raft, anchor it and keep repairing it. Really though, hit level 8 and it's time you were out of there.
