I was looking forward to Taming but from all accounts it isn't worth the points for what it does, a bit like Farming. I hope they adjust those two skills

Yes we can gather but we cant find a place to build when a clan of savages tears you a new one with firearms and swords.
As it is now we can not progress or even experience the game at all..I have a couple of thousand hours in Ark and knew what to expect in Atlas on PvP servers, and knew it would be even worse with it being an EA release. I will leave PvP alone for a while longer as it's bad enough with the crocs, wolves, bears, etc. and the crazy vitamin system without having to contend with the rabid players as well.

As Percieval said, your raft would have been slows as hell. They only have so much carry capacity. I take enough to survive the trip itself - Stone tools, 100 of each Berry, 30 of each cooked meat, 4 or 5 Waterskins and a bow with 100 Arrows and maybe some Metal. Although since Copper from normal rocks has been increased I could get by without even carting metal along.
Slap a Claim down, and announce in General Chat you are doing so and that you are seeing if any claims have been abandoned and not trying to poach. People get tetchy when they see someone is trying to "steal" a claim.

We have a small crew of 6 we dont need much space but we cant find anything and so much land is un-claimable (Lawless). Also the animals (predators) are WAY to aggressive and numerous you cant even set foot on land before you are eaten feels to much like ARK.
Even the crocodile is the same size, i think a good solution is to tone down the number of predetors makes no sense they are x10 amount of the pray around.
Also the Freeports are great place to socialize and trade why cant we utilize the space\ apartments in the freeports?Don't bother with Lawless zones, they're just another newbie zone although at least it is possible to build on them. Go to the non-Freeport and non-Lawless zones. If you can't find any land to settle, put a Claim down and if the owner has been inactive there for 3 days you get to claim it. If they have been active the claim fails.
The animals can be a problem, I admit, but persevere and you can gather and build. It seemed impossible at first to me but using my Raft as a little base with a bed and a couple of locked boxes on it I slowly, bit by bit, got the materials for a small shack, 4x4, with a bed, campfire and a large storage box. I'm on my own and with 6 of you it should be a piece of cake if you all have bows. Three of four guard and the rest Gather stuff.
The Freeports would have to be Instanced housing as they're pretty small towns and with 57k players last night and even 45k on at 3am there wouldn't be room in town for them all.

Being close to the Freeport. Freeport is the newbie zone and beds don't work.
-
Claim system SEEMS to be working. Some guy slapped a couple down on the island I'm in and both failed because I was active and the other guy he tried it on with was active.

Any sap (or equivalent) in Low Desert biomes?
Edit: Found some Honey. Looks like a fan-shaped honeycomb on top of a small boulder.
-
Can you poop and eat it to die, as in Ark?
-
I noticed last night it seems to show only big Companies.
-
There are the newbie zones - Lawless and Freeports - and the rest of the map. Once you are out of the newbie zones you are in the game proper. No restrictions. Quite a few people think the newbie zones are all there are.

No auction house, they wreck games rather than improve them. Player-to-player (Individual or Company) trading should be all there is.
-
Op blatantly has no clue. " Lowest I've Ever Seen " my hairy white arse. There are 57,466 players as I type this.

Maybe the hold E option and Board might work, like it does with Crew?
-
It's much better now that I can make a Sickle, but the Traits say "gathered by hand" so really bare hands should get the bonus too. The 2.5x event bonus doesn't seem to affect gathering by actual hand either.

Sep is Elderberries in Tropical zones. No Sap, Sugar Cane, Honey or Syrup seems to exist in Temperate zones from my own observations and from trawling Forums and Game Chat.
-
USE them, not MAKE them. Where you get them I don't know.
-
Damn, that makes sense, sigh.

Maybe try...

I have the 40% increase in Gathering plus there's a 2.5 Gather Rate at the moment, but when gathering Fiber I get maybe 8 to 10 bits. If I gather from a dead animal or, say a Tree, I get 30 to 50 meat and maybe 40-60 wood with an axe or 60-80 thatch with a pick. Has anyone else noticed the low Fiber rate? It's a bottleneck for me because I have plenty of wood, thatch, stone, etc.

The game files lump Crystal with Gems, so there will be gems in those zones because they are in the list. Finding them is the trick though.

Welcome to Ark... oops!

It's... a... game. Why would placing a foundation or a pillar stop people building? Thought of that one?

They wouldn't stick to their own servers anyway, at least not all the time. They LIKE what they do to other servers - it's fun to them. They would have to LOCK servers as well, which I doubt they will ever do.
-
I visited to zones and maybe 5 islands, a lot was claimed, little bits weren't. I figured I'd try a counter-claim in case the player had been inactive 3 days or just moved on to another zone... I won the claim. Give it a try - nothing to lose.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK! GHOST SHIPS DESTROY RAFTS
in General Discussion
Posted
From latest patch notes...
Ship of the Damned targeting ranges now are reduced by the type of ship (down to 30% for rafts (which means they will now attack rafts - but you have to get pretty darn close to them!) and 0% for dinghies)
My underlining and bold font.
