  1. That is for small number of claims only, it is 3days inactivity if large number of claims.    How does a small time player with one claim troll you?    Either they go inactive or they are checking in to see how the game is patching out.

  2. ASC 'Atlas Server Controller' thread was linked in this thread.  16gB certainly not with nine grid plus game, but easy with current/freeport grid open and if you need you can run game with low mem option.  There are people on ASC discord doing 16GB. Six grids plus game plus a bunch of chrome windows it can get tight in 32GB - I have had a couple crashes. The map editor does not require the dev kit that is just where you grab the latest map file.  The map editor itself is lightweight, it purely is just a graphical parameter editor so you can drag/drop islands and settings rather than hacking up the .json text file to do the same.  The only thing it is used for is to export the map to your servers with your IP/port settings, although once you have it you could make your own maps you do not need devkit as you are not modding you are just rearranging.

  3. But the issue is you can sail from the top of the map onto the bottom, tried to propose a hemisphere map that was polar to equator  for unofficial and triggered a bunch of people that said they would be sailing from pole to equator.   That wraparound is what makes it the torus (devs most certainly could have put a red wall there though)  As far as your compass goes?   Well it is magic steampunk powered and also provides GPS coordinates.    Cause if indeed it was an unrolled torus up would be down and down would be up depending on if you are inside or outside half of the map - it is not a north south half despite what the compass says.

  4. the map editor comes with couple small maps and the entire map.   It has not been updated with the latest lawless change but if you join ASC discord you can get the update, or download the mod dev kit which is updated.    If you have room left on your PC you do not even need a dedicated server, ASC lets you have 1-9 grids open  - the entire point was running it on average hardware even alongside your game.  Your  only issue will be dealing with IP/router/ISP - ASC does not document that part as that is not any different than any  other game.  He just  tells you what the ports he is using in the batch files he generates.   So yes it is not as easy as ARK SP as you need to set it up and fiddle with it, but it does in fact work.   Why devs released mod kit without making setup pushbutton as in ARK is beyond me because you need a private server if you are going to mod.

Sometimes an animal will aggro on your boat, other times if you are close to the crew limit a bird will land on your boat and put it over crew limit and sink your boat.

The PVE PC hover fix applies to NPC as well I think, but could still happen on PVP if your boat was full but then birds on the poop deck is the least of your ship worries on PVP.

There may be other ways to accomplish the same thing but this is what I have found works the best for me.

Anyone who ran ark also knows the command line shares some of the gus ini, and that is another way to do it by putting into the json server/default command line overide section ?param=value in the json or in the gui.   That is a cumbersome format but it did work for harvest amount.

Seems that there is still much ark/cut paste code in atlas and they did not make reuseable code that could be redirected so every parameter works in the json .  for example "bAllowUnlimitedRespecs": true works in the .json whereas "OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints": 100 must instead be put in each servers .ini.

Please prove me wrong as I am trapped in the nightmare of trying to get scripting to do that workaround.   But seems if some of it has to go in the servers dir, might as well do it all that way for easier config mgmt - save pulling your hair out wondering why this worked and that did not.

You can't actually run a server on your machine an log into it. The game does not allow login from the same subnet, so in other words, no LAN mode.

You can rent a server, but that is beyond the technical abilities of many players, because that is just step one of many things you need to do before you have your own server functioning (one of the things is that you need to make the map using a tool provided by Grapeshot).

Ya, but have you or your 8 year old actually tried to set on up? There are reasons everyone is not doing this.

That is the entire purpose of why the guy wrote Ark Server Controller - no map making as you use the exact same 15x15 map and you can choose how many surrounding and home servers to keep open.  Just change to your external or internal IP, set your ports and it generates the modified .json and .bat files.   Only downside is treasure maps only spawn for open servers, though that might get fixed with a mod.

The entire map works on the LAN or on your game PC just fine for solo or coop play using internal or external IP    Yes you do have issues of usual game port settings on routers/ISP that apply to any game server - so if you are not comfortable with that or you ISP/router disallows it then you will have to wait for the singleplayer/coop button to be added like it was to ARK PC/XBOX.

If you do use internal IP because your ISP does not allow you to use IPs for external server access, the workaround is you have to add logon servers to steams server list  to be able to join from Atlas or steam.  The redirect from home server only works with external IP as does the Atlas server finder.  You could also just use the minor workaround to bed teleport to freeport home server to logout if you use internal IP.

For those having trouble getting custom dedicated servers working see this  useful guide.  I personally found ASC setup easier than this guide, but there is some good IP trouble shooting in it.

  8. As always the devs misjudged player ability to consume content and realized that an end game raid needs repeatable every month or that type of player will go elsewhere (lets ignore the fact that the current content not really worthy of being called a raid) .  So people aged to debuff within a mere month.  What makes you think they will ever be able to change that to three months when players already was getting buffed every month?  Even if you wanted it longer originally you will change your mind and say keep it faster or I will get behind.   That is why it being a live MMO is more important than it being an EA MMO.  When nobody is playing you can make balance chances, once it is live you cannot change the design.   For sure the design is already done and not going to change.   Sure they might bolt in a better raid dungeon, they did it in ARK because they are designed as dungeons they are easily swapped out without harming the map.   Just look at Kibble design in ARK to realize sometimes you have to stick with bad design because that is what you went with and are now stuck with it.   These devs do not do early access to redesign the game, they do early access so that they can have a two year ramp to push out new content every month.

  9. Keep in mind while you cling to your precious pirate genre - these are the same devs that

So we know it is physically possible, and we know the devs could care less about historical piracy.  And of course they already plan bigger damned ships so if they give you stone/metal armor and hulls, of course they will just make even bigger damned ships to take you out.  That is the meta of the game, keep feeding the megacorps new tek so that new players can never catch up.

  10. Here is another shocker for you, there are also boats made of steel.  Which ..... is not porous and far more dense than stone.  Yeah lets see how your wood ship will do against my aircraft carrier.

Since you insist on playing this game then maybe go read a wiki on buoyancy - it is the average of the materials that causes things to float.   A boat hull is full of AIR so it matters very little if the hull itself is even made of lead.   Of course heavy things sink because they are heavier than water.   But the air is lighter than water which is why you do not need a material that floats to make a damn boat.

Now make an argument that it does not belong in a pirate game.    A fantasy pirate game.   With a steamship submarine powered by magic.

Scrap the age mechanic, and just change it to fountain of power, give people a buff after they reach a certain level.

The devs are ruining this game dancing around the age mechanic, they need to just cut it out, and all problems are solved.

If you reach max level in other mmo if you want to reroll and relevel it is worth it as they give your next char bonuses. (D&D Online for example).     So I do not even have to play the game, just let it age me then once a month naked spam  thru FoY and get awarded permabuffs just because of the progression of time?  That does not even require a sweatshop to do character power leveling, just make a bunch of alts that you logon to once a month after a year your alt army should be seriously buffed and can easily power level.

Tying aging into the servers passage of time is a good solution to the issue of quitting players bodies and buildings screwing up everyone else's gameplay

They already have a solution for that which has nothing to do with age, if you simply do not login for 10d your body gets deleted regardless of what age you are and that is if it already not died of hunger/thirst or mob/player.       Simply delete their flags along with their body, either login once a week or lose your base.   You simply do not need an age mechanic to have a trash player mechanic.

We already know how breeding your kid will work because breeding is already in the game, and that is not even something even remotely feasible for a casual player to do.  Sorry real life kids I cannot feed you dinner because my game baby needs fed so that my character is not perma debuffed.    Sorry honey not in the mood tonight I have to sail across the map because my NPC wife says it is too hot for us to make a baby.

  13. Having an end game 'raid' happen every month regardless of character level is beyond dumb.   Tie this fountain of youth mechanic to your character level and not a real time clock.      Lvl 35 and I am 90yrs old?    All because I do not play every day for eight hours for the last month to get to max level?

(Yes I know it is actually a naked sloop spam (re)run, lets pretend they will actually make it the real end game raid it should be)

  14. The OP suggestion is already in the game with that general idea of equilibrium buff and full/drained vitamin penalty that ultimately lead to death, making it more complicated to get bonus/debuffed is not going to make more people use the system.   When the existing carrot is not being used, then it is time for the stick.  It is actually very easy to balance vitamins now, especially once you get preservatives and can keep handy everything you need.    At release it was not a balanced system and I died all the time, but now with much smaller penalty zone and much wider EQ zone, and no more excess drain of vitamins at sea I have never had a vitamin death.    The only thing killing me now is rogue temperatures and mobs.

Take the overeating perks and vitamin drain perks and it becomes absolutely trivial.    The only issue with it is that you do have to overeat to balance, but that is because you are being inactive and a signal you need to be doing physical activitiy that drains your stamina so it drains your food (go swimming, punch a dummy, run laps, etc)

If the buff is not enough for people to do it then maybe death causing them to age faster leading quicker to age debuff.   But the carrot of EQ bonus should be worth pursuing more than a death stick.  The only reason people die now is because it is easier to get vitamins refreshed and get back to EQ than actually having to eat, as long as there is no death penalty that will always happen no matter how simple/complex the EQ balancing code is.  SImply make it so your new body does not get refreshed vitamins will force people into actually using the system and realizing it is not as bad as it originally was.

As it is now, you would have to be pretty damn lazy to be saying you cannot afford to keep a stack for days of vitamins on your person or in a bag/larder when it is so damn easy to get these stacks.  Even as a noob rock puncher it is incredibly easy and fast to get more stacks than you need, especially since you can gatherby hand  on the run, although you get way more if you get out your sickle and take a second to clear bushes..   Pretty much every mob drops more than you need even with spoilage. The only issue is sailing before you get salt means lots of beach landings on your journey to restock, but plenty of freeports around for a safe restock.

I would however say cooking recipes are not worth the effort, you only need cooking to get to salt bags.   Until cooking recipes is greater than the sum of its parts, there is no point.  Cooking seems more like ARK of being hidden stat foods that quickly decay so you do not run around OP that is rather ignorant about the vitamin system.

  15. that is the nice thing about private servers, being able to park your boat with the bed, only worry is PVE killing it so you back it up with a bed on shore.

Also do not be scared off by server requirements you read elsewhere, that is for supporting many players and was guidelines before the server optimization patches.   I can push to 6 servers plus the game plus a dozen google tabs up in 32GB, maybe once every 10 hours I get a random mem crash and lose up to five minutes from last redis save.

  16. multiple follow might be in v2.      It currently only follows the designated player, which can be changed.    You can also open 4 additional grids, good idea to have your home server open in case you die! That can cover your players that decide not to be coop leashed to  where you are.

I am not at all sure I understand you... If you're talking about the ability to edit these in the ServerGridEditor, then yes, I am aware of that - I also have 225 servers that need the same setup, so I would very much prefer not to have to do this manually for each one.

Then again, I might have misunderstood that, so corrections are welcome.

I am completely sure that I have no idea what the Command/Arg thing means, though.

look closer at your json file there are command line as well as ini overides, at the top there is all/specific server overide for both.  I have not tested the command line override yet.  But I have tested the ini overrides and they do work (and in fact is how lawless zones are no claim high decay).

  18. Good point since food is maxed when bars are maxed, the obvious intent of vitamin bars is they be maxed right?   Then you die going WTF I had all my vitamins.

So three lines, over/under limits at +/-40 and origin at 0.  Of course you know when you are EQ or over limit eventually when you buff or die, but that takes half an hour and is a horrible feedback loop.    Using the over/under/origin lines would be immediate feedback - when balanced you see no  bars and when you start seeing bars it is a warning sign to get back into balance before it reaches the over/under lines - can even make the over/under bars flash when reached the limits for those who are not sure where to look.

  19. Yes it does require port forwarding (which some people have issues with setting up given ISP/router restrictions), but if you get it set up you can play just like Ark single player running the server on your game  PC or LAN.  Just need avail CPU/MEM which it does not need as much as you would think and the program lets you choose from 1-9 open servers so has flexibility in making it fit on what you have.

  20. The defaults are what the official implementation is, so that means you need to change it to true.   The problem is that was bugged and I got a debuffed thousands year old.   So either it is bugged with negative number signed vs. unsigned datatypes or or was intended to be used with an undocumented variable to specify the age.     The good thing is when I removed the flag it forgot how old I was and I restarted at 20 no more debuff.
