  1. How does one know if a hack was used to get the PIN for storage chests?  If a company is using a common PIN it is quite possible this was leaked by mistake or on purpose.  We've been the beneficiaries of this as poor leadership in other companies causes fractures and discontent.

  2. A Larger gate would be nice.

At this time you would have to build a huge garage with an open side.  Park the boat and then quickly build a wall using couple hundred stone walls.  When you want to use it again you demolish the wall to take it out.  Fun.  🙂

  3. If its dry docked it would take quite a bit of time and resources.  Sure they destroy it quicker then it takes you to build it, but they also have to spend the time to farm the resources needed to make the cannonballs.

Its not perfect, but it does increase the time investment and resource investment needed to tear a ship down to its frame.  The option I see beyond this is a new structure that can be plopped down like a shipyard.  Ships sail to it and go inside.  Once all players are off the captain can "park it" or whatever term you want to use and it goes away thus allowing more ships.  Cap the garage space at something reasonable so it cannot hold infinite ships and provide some way to "unaprk a boat" for use.    Make the structure very very strong.  Stronger then anything else in the game so it would be a huge time/resource sink to destroy.

I dunno what options are there?  I see complaints about this every day with few answers.

  4. Another work around for now is to have someone swim behind you and hit you with a spyglass.  I know its dumb, but it works.

Having said that I do agree gold should weigh less.  I'd love to sink a gallon with a couple hundred thousand gold on it.

  5. Removing the risk for people like Captain Scotch here seems like a good step forward.  As to Dimes response I think the addition of a player ran market will help alleviate that when v19 is released.

I mentioned this in another thread.....maybe we should allow ships to re-enter a dock and dry dock again.  If people want to spent the time blasting every single panel off a ship let them expend the resources to do so.  Cost a ton more then breaking one panel and sailing away while the ship sinks.  Its not perfect, but takes more time and resources for the aggressor.  This should reduce drive-bys as many people won't bother and reduces the effectiveness of sloops with a single cannon sinking larger ships.

    21. Especially at sea, add an option for a confirmation dialogue box before demolishing items.  The current nested wheels with options that rotate between layers is a recipe for disaster.

I have not done this yet, but came close several times.  Confirmation windows for anything that is irreversible is a industry best practice in games and OS/software in general.  We are human after all.

  7. You are right you do not. You can be apart of an alliance or rent land from someone and do your own thing.  The options are there.  You can move up north and be on your own with no guarantees either way.

I spent years in Eve.  While I see many parallels to it I do not see how you port over high sec and null sec zones and the other assorted siege mechanics without some very bad side effects without careful consideration.

How do you prevent people from using "highsec/freeport" areas as a base of operations to hit zones next door and a few sectors in.  I can see that being a huge issue.

If a Eve like solution can be implemented that does not drastically alter the game I am all for it.  This is not directed at anyone in this thread per se,  but I do see lots of complaining, lots of this is broke or this sucks with no alternatives.  No solutions.  When the dev team decides to change something deemed "broke" and nobody offers a good solution that the community backs they make up their own crap and most of the time its just that.  Crap.  Happens for pretty much every damn game I ever alpha/beta tested or even with release games.

  8. Someone in my company fast traveled to the Freeport nearby and built a sloop.  Once he got there he announced it to the Company and we all start spawning in.  There were at least 20-30 other people around the island (this was last week) and it took me 4-5 tries.  After I got the hang of it I made the run and snuck in.  Had to dodge some creatures and time my jumps and crouches, but I made it.  Overall I enjoyed it.  Dying to crocs before I even got to the cave was annoying, but I learned their behaviors and how to avoid them using the terrain.  Next time should be easier.

  9. How about a compromise.

Cannon carts have to stop to fire.

Swivel carts can fire on the move, but mobility is slowed. Leave the percentage up to you guys. I think its a fun meta and I enjoy the challenge of sniping the drivers.  You can also use your pets to pin these tames in and kill the driver.  My company has gone up against larger odds when attacking bases and we have had the numbers in our favor.  If you are not careful they will get killed currently so I'd rather not see them nerfed so much that nobody even bothers with them.

  10. Considering they are a small 6 man company they have not tried all the options.  They tried shoehorning their preferred play style in and it backfired so they are asking for the game to be changed so they can play that way.

  11. This typically comes from people in small companies who are all in or around the same time zones.  I don't have an easy answer for this from the rule set perspective.  Any restrictions you put in place can hamstring the game play to protect these smaller companies.

Smaller companies have options for survival.

    1.  Merge with companies that have different times of availability to cover their assets.

    2.  Merge with larger companies who already have this or are looking for coverage in that timezone.

    3.  Build multi-layer defenses that can be very costly to break into and take more time then some are willing to spend.  Most difficult option, but has been done to stop smaller groups of offline raiders.

    4. Find a company or alliance with claimable land that allows for better coverage.  Cornerstone to any good alliance are the members looking out for each other especially when they are offline.  Mutual defense pacts can be very beneficial.  Someone hits one of our smaller alliance members we return the favor 10 fold.  Sends a strong message.

This game is wide wide open.  Its up to the players to find ways to make it work.  Its part of the game play and one aspect I love about this game.

  12. I remember reading a thread like this in the Eve forums over a decade ago.  The beauty of these games is WE ARE THE CONTENT.  We are the story.  Its a open world sandbox MMO.  We do what we want when we want.  Some people/companies run on emotional response.  Some are calmer and more calculating.  Some are just plain sissies.

I hate MMO games with limitations.  I hate games with rules.  This is the first game in a decade plus I am really really drawn too.  Last MMO's I loved were Shadowbane and Eve.  Both games have these elements.  Insiding.  Theft.  Espionage.  Doublecrosses.  Hoodwinks.  Subterfuge and to top it all off.....just plain old ass kicking.

  13. So last night I was working logistics for a raid my company was involved in.  I brought ammunition and a hauler bear to get it on land to our troops.  While waiting for the Bear to return my dog walked up to me at the desk, sat down and started wagging her tail furiously and whimpering a bit.  Right then and there I knew she had to go outside.  I survey the scene and thought I was good for a couple minutes.  Within 100 yards we had 2 brigs and 3 schooners with active captains and crew.

I take her outside and she surveys the yard taking her time to find a spot to go.  Then she tries a new spot.  Then another one.  Oh crap, she has constipation.  I start wondering if should go back in and check on my boat.  Naw I am good we have ships there.  Little did I know that the call was made to start pulling out as the base was broken into, mats popcorned and message sent.  After almost 10 minutes she finally goes to the bathroom and we go back in the house.  I sit back down to find a schooner about 500 yards out heading directly at me at full speed.  I look around and realize my escort was gone.  WTF.  I drop my sails and turn slightly to avoid ramming the incoming aggressor.  Several times I try opening my gun ports, but they do not respond.  Again WTF?  The enemy schooner flies passed me and hits me with a nice firey shower from a swivel gun.  I start taking damage.  While this is happening I am trying to ask for help, figure out why my gun ports are not opening so I can defend myself and I am still taking damage after the flames have stopped.  This is when I realize that someone has boarded my ship and is hitting me.  I disengage from the steering wheel to turn and put a bullet in his dome when I fall to the ground unconscious.  He takes my gear, breaks my bed and the enemy schooner sinks my ship shortly after that.

I sat there thinking that this situation could not have been more perfect to screw me over.  I love my dog, but damn girl you sunk my ship!

Stop being sarcastic man. Noone is telling you not to raid someone during night because its just your time schedule. Problem is every retard is waiting for offline raids even if he is able to raid someone normally during the day. Just because its extremely easy and effective.

Every one?  In my experience that is not the case.  We wiped a few alliances in the area and convinced our biggest griefers to join us.  It helps they are cool people and damn good at PVP.  No we rarely get griefed.  We started again and we are already taking care of that situation.  There is always an option and simply killing them isn't always it.  Politics.  Breaking up alliances.  Turning people on one another or just grief them back 10x worse then they do you and they'll beg for mercy.

Our biggest downtime raiders are CTSG now.  The time zone difference is the biggest barrier here.  They hit us when we are offline and we do the same to them.  We have minimal overlap in player bases so most of the ships we lose to them is when we only have a couple people online and they are usually not where we are getting hit.

I did however have a flux capacitor moment last night while on the toilet.  What if ships could re-enter the dry docks?  Pull in, anchor and then hit a button and boat is lifted.  Boat is still vulnerable to damage.  It can be broken into, but it cannot be sunk and to damage every single panel and tile on a boat would be quite costly compared to the mats for the boat.  I think logging in and seeing a boat missing some panels in the dockyard is much more palatable then seeing a wreckage.

I am happy with it as is.....but thought that could be a good compromise if the devs were seriously looking at it.

  15. This is what I am enjoying about this game of late.  Early on it was a bunch of nobodies attacking nobodies.  Alliances were few and far between, companies did not know or trust one another.  As time goes on these things sort themselves out by the players and lands becomes more secure.  Locally we are working with or adsorbing many smaller companies  we find common ground with on securing our tiles against outside aggressors who take advantage of the time zone differences.  Its tough, but we are holding them back.
