    Dear Grapeshot,

I’ve been getting quite annoyed every single time you do a massive update. I have had to start over every time and on top of that, I know for a fact that I’m not the only person that reports major bugs.

Your team comes over as inconsiderate and you seem to be ignoring us. How, for example, do you expect us to do anything? All of us who do single player get left behind. Last wipe I couldn’t even open my game.

Please pay some attention to us, we are the reason you were able to fund the game after all. The least you could to is read the forums that you yourself have created. When I had to search for the smithy in the skill, the game crashes.

Please listen and respond to us and fix the bugs we report. Even though we are annoyed, Atlas is still a great game. Most of those who play the game are faithful fans, we all just want some feedback from you. We would appreciate it if you let us know about the development process instead of just posting the updates.

Respond to your forum comments, get to know your community. We are here to help you make the game better and we have been quite patient for almost 4 years now, since public release.

We are still here and haven’t given up on the game. But we would appreciate it if you were more responsive to the community. Your testers often miss bugs, or they don’t get fixed. The community can give you a lot more feedback, if you only let us.

    Dear Kiba420,

While I definitely agree with the sentiment of your post, I can't recommend expressing this opinion in all caps and with no paragraphing (and perhaps a bit more polite). In the current situation I understand your irritation, but being polite and concise in communication never hurt anyone.
I tried fixing it for you in the quote above, I hope this is a bit easier to read for anyone who is interested.

    imagine loosing 400+ hours from

singleplayer , i had just done kraken, and all essens, was gonna go do kraken 2 next, when i log in my full mythical brig is having no planks,my galleon dissapered,no sotds would spawn any more,no treasure maps spawned any more. And that was it for me. i cant even explain how upset i was

I can only imagine the pain. I still have a few old backups so only lost a day's worth of progress and I was already pretty pissed.

  3. Can confirm, lost all save data as well. Game crashes without fail when going to main menu from a single player save.

It would be nice if someone could confirm that the devs actually read posts like this. Or the bug reports for  that matter.

This seems like an urgent issue.

  4. The devs stated a while back that blackwood and single player are currently being ignored mostly.
This is only until the regular ocean map is in a better state, and when the new game mechanics are in place.

Ocean takes priority right now. Though I too would prefer they put at least SOME work into blackwood and single player 😞

Except, the whole point of giving players early access to a game in development is to get feedback on changes...Grapeshot is really doing things badly and apparently completely ignoring players. Seriously. That's where the community's anger is coming from, that it's become completely clear that they used early access to take people's money. Their entire business model is based soley on early access cash and nothing else. And no matter how much anyone wants to hide behind a "in development" disclaimer, taking money means you have customers, not testers, no matter how many times they say it, it doesn't make their obligation to customers any less real. . . this game has been in "early access" development for 2 years and is soaked in disasterous decisions.

So take your "just calm down" and go somewhere else.

Indeed, this whole game is riddled with serious mismanagement issues. The current dev team can't really be held responsible for that though.
They only recently took up the task of fixing all that is wrong with the game, and they are now fixing deep lying issues by rebuilding some base mechanics. That takes a while.
I feel like Grapeshot could redeem themselves if they can prove that they care about the customers, but it'll take a lot of work and time.

The current dev team is making good changes, at least when you look at the longterm plans they posted. I think the modular ship system will work out pretty well once those modular ships become buildable. Many people like creating their own ships, and others like to buy ships that are finished and ready to go. To me that sounds like there could be a player-run ship market if the tools where there. But being able to buy ships from NPCs is definitely a good way of doing the same, while also testing the function of these modular ships before making them buildable and customizable.

  6. Blackwood is not a dev-team priority at the moment.
They're trying to fix the core gameplay on the Ocean map first.
But they will definitely focus on private servers and single-player afterwards.

The past few dev teams left a bit of a mess they're trying to clean up.
As you may have noticed from the dev news, the current team is passionate about fixing the game for the long-term.
Not for the current testers, but for everyone trying this game in the future. Don't expect the game to match their vision for at least a while.

The Future of the roadmap looks Bleack with the addition of more USELESS TAMES MAKE SHIT WE CAN BUILD IN SHIPYARDS FUCKING PEOPLE

The game files seem to contain a promising new ship-construction related feature that might be coming soon that will please you very much, I think.
I won't spoil it for you, but you'll probably be really happy about it.

But in the meantime, how about this?

Paying coin to build YOUR OWN ship makes no sense.
Especially for even a small ship like a schooner.

But requiring blueprints to make more advanced ships wouldn't necessarily be bad.
It already was the case for mythical ships and such.

My suggestion would be to have the following options.

    • Freeports
      • Buy pre-made ships for coin
    • Player Shipyard
      • Build entirely custom-made ships with resources
      • Build special ship modules (like the ram) with rare resources and blueprints
      • Construct advanced ships and ship components with blueprints/rare resources

Some ships and parts would require blueprints (for coin or by salvaging).

    •  No blueprints required
      • Dinghy
      • Raft
      • Sloop
      • Schooner
      • Brig
    • Blueprints required
      • Galleon
      • Ramming Ship
      • Submarine
      • Other (new) specialized ships
      • Specialized ship parts
        • Ram
        • Torpedo launchers
        • Secondary gun decks
        • Specialized cargoholds
        • etc.

When are you going to resolve the present bugs first and then bring content to the game? You mention using the market system and yet it hasn't been fixed.  Secondly you mention all these great things for PVP and yet forget about the other half of your player base in PVE, a lot of folks don't enjoy the PVP aspect of the game.  You have to appease both sides not just one for your game to be successful. And finally have your Devs play the game, with all these ideas you are putting forth it is obvious they don't play, otherwise they would see the issues that the players are complaining about.

Many bugged features might be slated for removal or replacement.
It's likely that the devs simply don't want to spend hours making fixes that won't matter in the long term.

The devs really do hear the issues players complain about, but there is a lot of work going on that we can't see.
Instant-gratification is not something one should expect from a game in development.
Have patience and bounty will be plentiful, I'm sure.

  9. First of all

Thanks for taking up the burden of fixing this game.
Many of us are aware of the hurdles you're facing. But just as many are not.
Please don't take all the non-constructive criticisms as a personal slight, most of us appreciate the work you've done.

    Some (hopefully) constructive feedback

    • Sea Forts
      • Tower
The biggest remark I have on the fort model is the fact that it looks like a structure that would topple over easily.
Perhaps remove the lower section, or make it wider, so it doesn't look like it would topple over in a storm 😉
      • Floor level
I would also recommend adding a wall around the whole structure, that way the floor will look more in-place on the rock.
    • Trade system
      • I love the idea of a trading system, but please make the world map a bit more sensible again.
Surely it's possible to balance a world with somewhat realistic biomes (hot at equator, cold at poles)?
    • Ships & gold
      • Please don't make shipyard ships cost gold unless gold can realistically be gotten by smaller companies.
      • Make shipyards require a paid crew in order to build the bigger ship frames.
While this doesn't do anything mechanically, the gold cost would make more sense and the world would feel a bit more alive.
    • Wipes
      • I'm glad you decided that wipes aren't a major issue during an early-access phase.
This is what testing is for after all. People seem to forget that the game isn't released yet.

Again, big thanks to all staff working on Atlas, not just the devs.
    The transparant communication is appreciated!

  10. Could many of these variables become server settings?

On singleplayer or a private server it could be much more fun to be able to shoot placed (or even carried) barrels 🙂
And of course changing gather rates and ranges at which the structures can be built is a real boon.

I've always felt that ATLAS has a lot less configurables than ARK. Take ranged-weapon-immune NPC's on cannons for example.

Unfortunately, we can't read anything here what you want to do about the really badly running servers.
Now a new building is coming again, which is reducing the performance of the servers. The playability in the LawLess areas is equal to 0.
I think you should get the game up and running again first, otherwise your new ideas will be in vain because no one will spend money on a game that is laggy and the players will be punished with high ping.

Altas went really well up to the last wipe, the map was nicely done and realistic.
Why do I find arctic raspberries in the desert now ???
The search for the numerous discoveries was really fun.
Now the number of Discovery has been castrated so that the stimulus is gone, just so that the impatient can reach the final level. These people should better play GameBoy.

I hope for all of us that you get it back on track, otherwise I think Atlas will be dead before it is officially released

The map change being somewhat awkward is something I agree with. I liked the more realistic kind of map as well.
At least keeping the whole round planet kind of atmosphere with realistic climates and related resources would have been preferable.
    Explorable biomes keep things interesting.

I feel like they ARE working to improve performance though, there have been multiple hints to that. It just takes a while to clean up the mess the other dev teams before them have made. This is the first group actively working on fixing the game properly. Give them a chance 🙂

I think you can just go to a freeport and trade wood and gold for the darkwood, right?

That is what I've done before.

This is actually the official explanation. There is no darkwood and ironwood. You can only get them from merchants.

    Source is Discord:

    NamiYesterday at 09:49

@Nami any word to get darkwood and ironwood back into the gatherable res tables?
@soulrever911 (East India co.) Darkwood and Ironwood can only be obtained from merchants at this time.

flotsam are great for food while sailing early game. unfortunately it's still faster and more efficient to die.

they just jumbled the map up. im honestly surprised shipwrecks are not spawning under islands or in the air.

Would worse death penalties alleviate this somewhat? Like losing one or several levels or somesuch?
