  1. I was trying to say that i looked past the walls, to see the other side. Yes, if something is gamebreaking, it is gamebreaking. If you can't physically do something, then you can't. Just remember though why you play games. Being able to look at walls and past them is not why i play games, its to do that and everything else. An answer that could be given to what you're saying is that the game then becomes one of not lagging - everybody lags for the same reasons you do. Therefore, everyone is still playing the same game. Just gotta stop for a moment, let the game load some more.

Possibly relevant: I knew somebody that played ark for years on their mac laptop (lol) with 3-5 fps. I could not play on that laptop. When I did try to play, I died horribly and cried about it irl. I was physically not able to play the game using that laptop, and had I not owned a computer myself, I would not be playing ark at all. This person played ark and enjoyed it for what it was, and was able to make it what they wanted it to be. They currently do not play however, due to performance of their laptop (they saw ark on my computer.)

  2. ehhhh

i'm not replying properly here but here is this bunch of text below:

in ark, the structures load as you go. this was not the case a year ago. i have a base in ark that has been there for years, and neighbours that had a base so big that it would crash my computer. there was lag. nowadays, i fly past this base matrix style, the building parts load in bit by bit, appearing next to me as needed by "the system", i do not slow down.

  3. Why imagine?

It's more a question about how to wipe and how to announce it. If you announce a wipe in three days and after three weeks it finally happens. Worst of all was the x6 event till wipe.

This behavior was the salt in the soup, not the wipe himself.

No. It's always a question of 'why".

The how to do and how to announce is insignificant. It leads to knee jerk reactions, sure, and can possibly show that there is no "why', but it always is a question of "why".

Salt in the soup of what? Wipe of what?

So the thread turned into rig boasting and snide remarks. If it's going to run on a shitty console i am sure your rigs are fine. I will stick to my points about the blocking of the islands and hope the devs change it before the XBOX release as the players there will flip shit and not play either. Sure there are a few other bugs but for the most part it was the gate wall spam that would lag you to death. If our rigs can not handle it then, RIGS that are 10x faster and stronger than XBOX then they will be having a very shitty time. Cut the game braking baggage. free up the islands and let people play. I Personally play games for the sense of freedom they provide, freedom that otherwise is not allowed in reality. that's why i got a pirate game.

searching for gold and raiding and generally goofing around. but no a group of 5 can lock down the hole island stop thousands of players and kill your game. i know this because we did it. If we did not have the walls and gates we would not have been able.

    Wow. Um. No. Not really.

Anyway... Did you crash your ship into a wall after it failed to load or something? Seems you're very focused on the need for a replacement to spam that causes lag. Maybe instead of focusing on why you locked down your island so it lagged, please remember why you think talking about "freedom" is the reason you play video games.

It's actually possible to look at the possibility that there can be walls and gates that makes somebody focus on them so much that they forget other stuff, as a positive. Instead, people think that they themselves somehow kill a game, that they never really played.

The answer to all of this for me is very simple.

I won't be returning to the game and definitely won't be opening my wallet for this company or any project that these "developers" are involved with in the future.

Atlas has also most likely been my last "early access" experience. Early access seems more like a scam these days than something resembling supporting development.

We are trying to get something for ourselves here. There is no game as yet, and once there is, you will not be happy if you are not here.

The quotation marks around the word developer shows this.

Right, but my point is that just because they are hiring certain positions does not mean things are doing well overall. Companies in the middle of bankruptcy will hire a new CFO if the old one bails because they have to have one. Look I'm perfectly willing to admit this information could also indicate that Eric has determined he needs more talent working on the project and is authorized to go out and get it. Believe me that is what I'd definitely prefer.

Mostly I am concerned for how this plan does not seem to be giving the game a very good chance to put it's best foot forward when introducing it to a new platform and a new market. Whatever technical reasons might make this approach seem like a good idea, I can assure you that from where I sit it looks like an absolutely horrible idea from a business and marketing perspective, and over the past 15 years GrapeCard would not be the first studio I have seen make decisions for technical reasons that were poor business decisions. For all the criticism leveled at him, Steve Jobs built Apple into a powerhouse because he understood that it doesn't matter how good your product is if doesn't fill a customer need and isn't marketed properly. Jobs was a businessman first, tech guy second.

The reply from Jerryn is trying to give that confidence which is not actually possible to give, all anybody can give anybody is a show of good faith.

Steve Jobs built apple into something bigger than himself because he was able to use a product that people built. Separating Steves Jobs from apple is the only way to reasonable view apple's "size".

    6. This leads me to the worry that they do not now expect the game to have any meaningful chance at success and that this move is in fact the dreaded "cash grab" many players are quick to accuse any developer of doing

That worry should be replaced by your understanding below

and no offense but it could just as easily be postings for when key people left positions they cannot afford to not have. I wouldn't think you would lay off a Senior Programmer of any sort, and as far as I know no one has been laid off, but when key people leave an operation they perceive as floundering, they need to be replaced, regardless of whether other positions are or not.  It's why companies in bankruptcy still hire CFO's.

    Some people just leave.

Some people just don't further development on games, and then announce that the reason they don't continue is because the further development will happen after the game has started to be developed again.

Maybe those key people stopped the development due to their perception.

It just hit me! Even though you are wrong about features in the game most of the time, considering you haven't played yet, you are kind of well informed. What is gonna happen with those thousands of xbox players that are going to join us with no knowledge of the game. They are throwing sheep to the wolves here.

You are wrong about the galleons btw.

Just wait til you realise he's a joke character.🙂

I built my first brig, and did something similar to OP.

I then built my first galleon, sailed it solo to golden age, then glitched off the back of the ship. I land in the water, watching the ship sail away, took a screenshot, and then logged out. I logged out, because if there is no player around to render the ship, or sotd, then the ship and sotd are not rendered. Soo then I wait. I logged in after a few minutes, because of that feeling that another player may happen to sail past by now, and my ship could be sinking. I was still in the water, and the ship is stationary surrounded by sotds. I dove into the water a little, to try and get a shark to agro me at the last second (always carry feces on you so you can respawn quicker) and then logged out again. When i logged in, a shark had eaten me during the lag time between me pressing logout and the server logging me out and back in, I was dead so I could respawn on the ship, I then rushed to jump on the wheel to save the ship (open gunports, haha) so that I could place replacement planks. That galleon is now max level and I need a new one.

For PVE if there is no wipe, we will just sell level 80+ (unmutated) breedable tames to everyone, making them quit faster that way.
With no wipe many new player will shortcut alot in this MMO. There is no progression if you go 0 to 100 in one week time.

    Why not mutated?

I'm sorry but I don't see why you selling tames will make people quit because they can shortcut an mmo that is starting it's roadmap after the event that some people falsely think requires a wipe.

I breed my own tames, and stopped breeding them, because of the above sentence. The OP and first 5 replies in this thread is all that is needed here really.

For PVE if there is a wipe, why do you think that because people are not able to buy your tames, it will make them play slower that way?

There is no progression if you go 100 to 0 in whatever amount of time.

No he doesn't. You can't go from 0 to 100 in one week. Once you hit about level 70 it slows WAY down. I'm pretty sure only a few people in our company are level 100 even now and we have (had) a large company. I wasn't logging in every day but I've done every powerstone, killed both versions of Kraken, killed yeti, got all the essences, and finished all quests except Ghost ship and I'm still only lower 90's level after MONTH's. So no, you are all are completely incorrect on the ability to shortcut in this game.

Also, with your all's reasoning, every time the game goes on sale, they should wipe right? Because you know, new players and stuff? It's ignorant thinking. The game will be unsustainable if levels determine PvP success and that is the true issue. They need to balance ALL combat and make it skill related, not level related.

If they wipe characters, I'm out. I'm not grinding out all those Achievements a 3rd time. I'll rebuild bases, breed new tames, build new ships, but I'm not going back to all the god damned islands I've already discovered to get Master Cartographer again. Fuck that.

you're quoting someone who doesn't play the game, please remember this

  10. Having factions just gives in on the original concept, and bows away from a challenge. FFA PVP afaik has proven to not be completely sustainable, however it can still be popular and still be fun and have replayability to retain/gain players. It can have players that play while knowing that the game is not sustainable, and they play it just for the bits that are fun. I never really enjoyed mmorpg type online games as much as fps games, until ark. FFA PVP sandbox has something that prevents it from being a sustainable video game, and its probably because it's like the real world (which sucks.) The posts above talk about things like templars and ports and nations and edges around nations, which are all real life things. Ark, eve, swg, some others *maybe*, they are all ffa pvp games which are arguably good games. I am not sure there is any others. There is reasons that are unique to each of those 3 games that help to explain why those games are respectively. Finding that reason for atlas will just take some time.... and i cbf atm 🙂

Making the cost of stuff that blows up my wall cost more than the wall itself is a start though. Is that actually true? I just read that somewhere, i've forgot if i can remember correctly and i'm bad at maths.

  11. Sounds like you bought a game that said it was a pirate game, found a map, made some pirate weapons, sailed to the map location, and then you find out your weapons do 0 damage. So, you get the advice that you need a bear or similar tamed animal. That kinda sucks, and sounds silly enough that it will hopefully be fixed. It is this way because the devs did not nerf xp gained by ships from killing aotd, when they decided that they didn't like people lvling their ships against those mobs.

I think good armour and a two handed mace can work, and high lvl npc crew.

  12. There needs to be some kind of update, I noticed that there was a patch yesterday or today.

A week ago, or just after the livestream, there was a post on reddit, from a person who made a mod, which quickly changes values for flotsam and loot and gear. There was a reply to the post that said "and the devs would have you believe that it takes months to make these kind of changes." Dollie replied to this post with "we are looking into making changes just like this, and they dont take months"

A week later, I dont see any of those changes in the patch.

    .....

I really do love atlas (and ark...) and the devs, but the devs also actually seem like joke characters.

    🙂

P.s. pleaseeeeeee keep this game a gear based game while also making it a skill based game at the same time!!

Those numbers are wrong ark sold over 12 million copies. You can think my opinion is hogwash just like I think yours is.

Edit: btw console includes ps4 and Nintendo switch. So “console” numbers dwarf pc numbers by a far amount

Hahahahaha. Thank you for the laugh, dear troll character.

So, not ignoring Boomer's post (the entirety of the post, not just cherry picking the bits that show that you're a joke character) he has stated there is 3 million copies sold on PC, 2 million on xbob. So, PS4 and switch sold 7 million between them?

So, to ignore everybody's posts prior to this one, lets now talk about sales numbers and just ignore everything that isn't conveniently easy to use in a way that will further your joke character agenda.

  14. Haha. I will have to re-read posts to get context, seems like a funny thing that I said there actually now that I look again. Hah.

edit: Ok i understand what you were saying now more, but still can't really see my point. Hmm.

I really like your point actually. It reminds me of someone I knew who recently was playing ark on their laptop which is now 10 yrs old or something.

In order to make Atlas better, it has to be made faster.
Sailing takes too long to get anywhere - double ship speeds.
Harvesting without 2x is not done by most players, so just make 2x harvesting permanent.
Leveling ships takes too long; learn from Eve-Online, all ship hulls are the same, it's only the modules (cannons/planks/etc.) that should take time to upgrade and accumulate.
Not enough ship hulls; there have only been 3 useful ship hulls since launch.  Make more ship types.

The last Dev stream said they wanted to make the game more action, less monotany, the above way are the major ways to do it.  Faster travel, faster resource gathering, spend zero time leveling a ship.

    Go Go Go!

    Damn, those ship types.

It's so sad. They would've added more ship types by now if they could.

Someone just give the devs a billion dollars and a custom built engine etc please.

I have to tell ya, whether Atlas succeeds or fails, I could give less than a fig about whether Xbox players get the crusts cut off of their sandwiches just the way mommy does for them. If they wanna give me that tired “I deserve the same clean slate you got” argument I will happily throw right back in their faces what a performance nightmare the game was on December 22 2018 and how  they only even have the option to play Atlas because of the money and time that me and folks like me put in from then to now that means wipe or no they will have a less of a dumpster fire to deal with when they walk in the door.

What is even going on?? Lol!! 🙂

No because if there won’t be a wipe, the amount of upset xbox players will go through the roof. Nice way to start that whole campaign.

Seems like you're saying that somehow being upset entitles people to something.

Reminds me of the theory that the last wipe occurred when the devs listened to the megas, and it didn't really help the game, so now lots of people don't play anymore.

This thread is about how there is such little players, and the OP is asking for a wipe, because they think that it will somehow magically give the game life, and add new players. It's just silly.

    I mean, yeah, wow.

Here's the thing. I actually don't could give a fig less than a crust from my flying bred 100% imprint lvl 123 crow that I don't even really care about which is sad because I should loooove any crusty figs from my crows whether or not there is a wipe. I just want a good game. You fuckers wiping my bred animals just so you can think you are somewhat competitive in what is currently what could be easily argued to be a lame broken "imba" game...... lol. Ok. edit: if not competitive, and you fuckers don't care about competition, then here is your answer: there is plenty of room. Come play. It's not thattttt bad. We just need help to make the game better 🙂

I dont think anyone mentioned anything about dumbing it down in any way for PC players. Perhaps there will be a graphics cap for the console kids,  but again, speculation at best.

Oh wait, realist prolly screamed about something like this. Lets not put faith in what trolls say, especially the ones you know are ignorant.

Lol, realist saying that gameplay will be nerfed when on xbox?

Yeah, sorry, that post of mine there was a bit stupid really. Very juvenile haha, was only half thinking and was trying to be a smart ass about how ignorant people get things that are crappy.

The reason my post there was also so so shit is something happened that just got me, after the console release of ark there was a marker added on the map for your player position. I think I've read that the player position wasn't on the map as a design choice, and I also just enjoyed navigating using GPS or the old fashioned way with landmarks and the map. I remember other few nerf-like things happening, I think possibly render range nerf, but I thought ps4 ark was great for what it was, and apparently the xbox version was even better.

  18. People get upset about people talking about wipes, because those people are trolls / joke characters like realist. Its just perception.

    8 hours ago, Percieval said:

I hope for a new wipe. But people on the discord said this will ‘revive’ the game but it’s not going anywhere near that. If I’m honest I’m at a loss, how can this game ever be more than it is now.

Why do you hope for a new wipe?

Just because things can't get worse?
