Ideal anti-griefing system, weight problems etc. on PVE servers

Recommended Posts

Dear developers,

I have to say first that after our ship sunk and I saw with my eyes what would griefers are capable of I would like to suggest what I see the best would fit the PVE servers and solves many problems. The latest patch, is not what I wanted or other wanted to see for PVE anti-grief system. That only creates more problems. Further more the PvE is not the same as PvP. Other players should not overweight your ship, if you want that realistic game to exist, everything in-game should be realistic then. Like so dragons don't exist, world is roundish etc.

If I were to fix this problem, I would remove emergency ladder or limit it's usage to owner/company only. At the moment it's possible for anyone to use it and it's not a big deal using their ship to come closer or use ladders to overweight the ship.

The second is overweight troubles. Lets say someone on the ship with them having tons of weight, once the ship overweight's they should auto drop all the stuff and none can pick it up or anything else on that ship, it will expire after like maybe 15-30 sec and it counts as weight to avoid further exploits. 10-15 sec won't sink the ship and from what I see, ship gets little dmg and than heals but before holes appear it will take serious amount of time. Exception will be those who own that ship, if they overweight their ship, that system won't work for them and if other people  jumps in while the ship overweighted, they will auto drop stuff.

One of the users in discord nickname UniversalChip, who I discussed this, also suggested a simpler fix would have been no weight sinking when anchored or further more to make a device you can place on the ship that will repel all none company persons, tames and bags from your ship.

The third suggestion would be to fix weight exploit with character that can carry unlimited amount of weight. I see this a lot, if you are taking something from chest or tool box etc., you can't overweight your self but if you drop the stuff on the ground, you can take as much as you want. This must be stopped, maybe exception would be gold coins.

Overall I would like to thank developers for all the work they have done to this game, without this amount of support this game wouldn't survive. I'm looking forward hearing from you and see that you will rethink the latest patch changes regarding anti-grief system and find better solution using this ideas as you like. Also anyone are welcome to share any opinions about specific subject.

Thanks for reading,

All the best,

XuT

Yep, I thought this was a great and intended tactic to overweight another player's ship and passively sink it. When I was new, I was in the Freeport stocking my chests when another player came over and opened my chests and emptied them. I didn't realize that they needed to be locked. I was very upset so I had loaded up on stone and meandered to their raft and eventually, they and their crewmates jumped on and it immediately sank. I felt extremely vindicated =p

I'm confused. This was uploaded an hour ago... yet the patch was released last night where anyone outside of ypur company or alliance is not allowed on your ship. They stay suspended in a falling animation. Have I missed something in last 12 hours since that patch?

I think it's also possible that they can set password for you chest. So yeah careful with that. As for main subject, that's is not intended to overweight someone. The latest patch only made things worse because if you jump on someone's raft/ship etc, you will get stuck and people will still be able to overweight raft and further more using emergency ladders overweight any ships and sink your ship. That's pretty bad thing.

Nothing to confuse about. The latest patch didn't fix the problem entirely and this subject is for ideal anti-grief system. Yeah they would not be allowed on the ship by simply suspended  in a falling animation but they could use ladders and the one that is exploitable is emergency ladder that anyone can use it. Also people already I think found a way to exploit this anti-grief system with gliders, didn't check it through. This new system only makes things worse in my opinion.

I didn't realize they were still allowed to use your ladders. But for the stuck thing, easy. Stay off their property. Honestly if someone jumps onto my ship at this point, I'll happily wait for them to die from being stuck and take all of their gear.

I think for now, I have a few ideas.

1. People say there are whistle commands to your ship that allow you to raise and lower the emergency ladders. So figure out those whistles, and keep your emergency ladder retracted. You may need to reset your default keybindings.

2. Don't store important materials on Rafts longer than needed. Definitely don't leave these things on a Raft unattended, as in, offline. Ultimately... stop using Rafts.

The trolls and the griefers will always find a way. They'll never stop. I do not partake in their behavior. I do not agree with their behavior. But we cannot stop them from trying. So my suggestion is to take care of your own. Don't allow them tbe satisfaction. If you don't use a raft, they can't sink your raft. If you retract your emergency ladder, they can't use your emergency ladder. We just have to be smart about it.

I had to witness this my self. Our brig was 42 lvl and we stopped by Golden Age Ruins to continue next day. When I came online I saw Galleon pretty close to our brig and someone with square nicknames tried to overweight us, they seemed pretty unmatured and sounded Germans. My crew couldn't come online and I had to deal with them my self, I tried to talk to them but received strange behavior. Two of them loaded one guy with 30k weight. I tried everything and when nothing worked I started to remove all stuff we had, so they don't get anything out of it. I'm not sad about it because now I can wait for proper fix. Just regret that I couldn't do anything more about it. I took important stuff and 21 crew al with me to dangerous island and attacked 117 wolf only to watch my crew al dies =(. Then I took dinghy and took one of those griefers to deep sea and scutter the dinghy. I roughly spend about 2 hours on them. Anyways back to main subject, developers needs to fix this because PVE is PVE and PVP is PVP

One of the guys were standing right next to emergency ladder. As soon as I retract it, he will use it again and I was alone on this. At the same time ship is in process of sinking 😃 Upd. also due to overweighted, the ship is stuck in place, vicious circle I would say ))
