Is there a Hotkey to instantly get rid of the chat box?.....or is auto-hide the only delayed option?

Backspace has nothing to do with chatbox, unless you are deleting what you typed.

The only option to hide chat box is in the Options settings where you need to disable Auto Chatbox. There's no hotkey that you can enable and disable at will.

You can hide it with the \ just below the backspace key
