But like I said, hopefully this post can warn someone.

The only thing this post is likely to warn anyone about is your apparent inability to understand what's likely to happen with a game that's in early access.

I don't see how you can say it's not sleazy when it's not advertised or even hinted at. Even if it were advertised, I don't understand why it should be expected to lose your progress before an official release, even in an online game running servers. Why wouldn't the company just make a new server at official release and let people keep their progress from the EA period? Especially in a game requiring so much investment and enduring hardships and setbacks like this one.

It's definitely hinted at. That's under the giant sign that says "early access".  If you can't understand the premise that early access(a game advertised as an incomplete work in progress) implies the possibility of everything getting wiped out,  then I can't help you.

I've played several mmorpgs before official release,  and every single one of them wiped their slate clean for the official release. Everyone playing the beta lost all progress upon release.

It's my understanding that servers are wiped at official release so the beta and ea players don't start out already running the whole show. As for wipes in EA(be it single player or multiplayer) , sometimes it's because old saves aren't compatible with the new game version.

Running servers costs money,  id bet they're not going to make a seperate server to run the older code that they're no longer supporting.

As far as setbacks, this game was still easy mode when I last played a couple weeks ago. The losses you'd suffer in this game pale to those in eve online, swg, or anything else with any kind of actual death penalty.

Is there any online game that doesn't run servers?  :classic_rolleyes:

I was referring to games that run a persistent world like UO or EVE Online vs something like Unreal Tournament. Apologies. I could have worded that better.

  4. Im pretty sure this was a gatewall. Cant say for sure because I haven't built any gates myself,  but it was extremely tall without being more than one unit high.  Grappling hook would not attach,  if that helps identify it.

I definitely got a good laugh when I saw the name.

Did pirates form companies?  I don't recall.

This game cannot be 100% pirates.  There needs to be country and company ships (EIC for example) to raid and possibly commandeer.  The MEGAs people complain about are the countries.  Their politics and wars affect entire regions.  Smaller companies can act like a country and play the political game or they can go the pirate route and hit whoever they please.  anyone can play both sides of this as they see fit.  We determine the game we play.

Just like the days of old if you piss off the wrong person you might find a nation state knocking on your harbor door.  Play the game right and you might find a Nation taking out an adversary for you.

I think this is an exceptionally cool way of looking at it.

Climb in there and fight them like a man, and not by tames, eh?

Fight who?  There's nobody actually there. Can I actually fight people on a pve server? And I don't have any tames,  that aspect of the game is 2nd from the bottom of the list of stuff I want to do in game. It's a big part of why I never got into ark,  I have no interest in taming dinosaurs. I want to craft stuff,  build a boat,  hire a crew,  and explore.

2 words Un Official, try A1 unofficial for starters

I'll check that out post wipe. Im moving after the summer,  once that happens ill be able to host a private server(no access to router settings here) ,  which is how id really prefer to play.

Plenty of people have plenty of good reasons to wall off an island without you and your tmap ever entering their mind

Im sure they have their reasons. My opinion is that blocking off an entire island on a pve server is a dick move.

then climb over , whats the the issue , just cos u cant go with your op bear tame , still doable , learn the game mechanics

What bear? I haven't bothered with animals at all, because I have no interest in it.  Didn't have climbing pick with me,  but tried grappling hook. Hook would not attach. So I got most of the army of the damned to spawn outside the wall. Shot the last 2 through the gap between the beach and the bottom of the wall. Dug up treasure and went back to my ship. Drinks all around.

How are they jerks lol the treasure map system is flawed beyond belief. I have had chests under buildings

Because they had walled off the entire island. Dick move. Then being jerks and the treasure map system have nothing to do with each other.

  10. Thanks.  Using the time before wipe to learn how things work,  how to find the different resources,  and generally just enjoying having the place to myself(for the most part. I've seen 2 other players on rafts since I started. I considered sinking them, but there was no reason to and it would not have been a challenge).

  11. I hope that official release includes a built in single player or private server option like ark or conan. If not,  i'll eventually have to learn how to host one myself after I move. I like to play solo,  but I don't want my playstyle to mess with the people who want to pvp or pve in groups

  12. After getting a chance to try it without sharks and jellies around,  I discovered that I needed more gold than I was carrying on me to recruit them. Id only taken 10 gold with me because I thought the was a good chance id get killed(which I did lol). Everything's running nicely now. Did my first treasure hunt(went with no trouble). Lost some crew on the second hunt when a rattlesnake showed up and knocked out a bunch of people and myself.  Ultimately we were successful,  and after work we'll sail to hire new crew members. Then it's back home to offload blueprints and make better equipment with them. Still enjoying the game.

it's not like the game itself tells you how to recruit them...

but well nothing to expect from pve

It tells you to give them gold.  Bobbing around in rough seas so I can barely keep the cursor on target while sharks attacking wasn't an exactly conducive to eventually figuring out that "item slot" meant 0, not any of the slots id been using so far. Pardon me for asking a question on a forum for a game that doesn't appear to have an instruction manual for me to read.

crew only repair planks when anchored everything else you have to hit with a hammer. to have them repair planks be sure that at least one of your npc is unseated. also npc left on cannons cost double so always unseat them before log.

Thanks,  I didn't know about the double cost and leaving one unseated for them to repair. I only knew about at anchor repair.

  14. After sinking a SOTD, I can't get the survivors on board. It says to give them a coin but I can't get any menu open to do so. Do I need a dinghy for them to climb into?

Also,  for strictly pve, are swivel guns worth it?

Do crew pay and feed themselves automatically out of the ships larder and storage chest? Or do I have to do that stuff manually?
